Abstract:
In this article, we re.ect on architecture and management and organization theory, in terms of their mutual implications. We focus especially on a tacit implication in mainstream organization theory, which has an architectural genesis. In the past, management has been largely undergirded by a Cartesian rationality, one seen most clearly in the argument that structure follows strategy. Architecturally, this Cartesianism is present in the injunction that form follows function. Criticizing this point of view, we argue that organizations should be thought of as material, spatial ensembles — not just cognitive abstractions writ large. Linking space and organization in this way, we re.ect on the power that every spatial organization necessarily implies, both in negative and positive terms. After examining existing approaches to this issue, we discuss some positive power implications for management. We introduce the concept of the generative building that, instead of being a merely passive container for actions happening in it, contributes positively towards an organization’s capacities. We conclude with a re.ection on the impact of the generative building on management and processes of organizing.

Abstract:
The complex three-dimensional organization of genomes in the cell nucleus arises from a wide range of architectural features including DNA loops, chromatin domains, and higher-order compartments. Although these features are universally present in most cell types and tissues, recent single-cell biochemistry and imaging approaches have demonstrated stochasticity in transcription and high variability of chromatin architecture in individual cells. We review the occurrence, mechanistic basis, and functional implications of stochasticity in genome organization. We summarize recent observations on cell- and allele-specific variability of genome architecture, discuss the nature of extrinsic and intrinsic sources of variability in genome organization, and highlight potential implications of structural heterogeneity for genome function.

Abstract:
Sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCAs) are common genetic syndromes characterized by the presence of an aberrant number of X and Y chromosomes due to meiotic defects. These conditions impact the structure and function of diverse tissues, but the proximal effects of SCAs on genome organization are unknown. Here, to determine the consequences of SCAs on global genome organization, we have analyzed multiple architectural features of chromosome organization in a comprehensive set of primary cells from SCA patients with various ratios of X and Y chromosomes by use of imaging-based high-throughput chromosome territory mapping (HiCTMap). We find that X chromosome supernumeracy does not affect the size, volume, or nuclear position of the Y chromosome or an autosomal chromosome. In contrast, the active X chromosome undergoes architectural changes as a function of increasing X copy number as measured by a decrease in size and an increase in circularity, which is indicative of chromatin compaction. In Y chromosome supernumeracy, Y chromosome size is reduced suggesting higher chromatin condensation. The radial positioning of chromosomes is unaffected in SCA karyotypes. Taken together, these observations document changes in genome architecture in response to alterations in sex chromosome numbers and point to trans-effects of dosage compensation on chromosome organization.

Abstract:
The paper considers spatial organization of energy facilities with an emphasis on modern practice of the Republic of Belarus. The efficiency of enterprise operation in any industry including power industry is largely due to their architectural and planning organization. Knowledge of mechanisms and specific features of the changes taking place here makes it possible to justify a promising strategy for project activities, and therefore, it allows to manage development processes of the industry and thereby avoid many negative consequences. Energy facilities are a typological unit of industrial architecture, their formation has been started due to transition of industrial production to electric energy. Today the typology shows functional approach in architectural shaping, it includes a fairly large variety of constituent units and demonstrates a tendency towards diversification. In Belarus energy facilities in the architectural aspect of their classification are limited mostly to thermal power plants operating on different types of fuel. Currently the diversification is developing in the following areas: construction of hydropower facilities (small plants on reservoirs, medium power plants, low-pressure plants, run-of-the-river hydraulic power stations), alternative energy (wind power stations, photovoltaic power stations and biogas plants) and conventional energy (thermal power plant, mini-combined heat and power plant operating on renewable fuel). The results of Belarusian practice in construction of all types of facilities (hydropower, alternative and conventional energy), peculiarities of the architectural and planning organization of facilities at the current stage, correlation with global trends in the development of industrial architecture have been characterized in the paper. The paper has determined typological features of alternative energy facility architecture, opportunities and directions for implementation of architectural approaches, problems and prospects to develop scientific support for the project process.

Abstract:
This study examined changes in perceptual response and preference for a specific category of architectural environment by age groups. Understanding relationships among age, perception, and preference is important in creating more appropriate environments. The hypothesis was that individuals who score field-dependent on an Embedded Figures Test would prefer architectural environments which support spatial orientation, while individuals who are field-independent would prefer environments without information on spatial organization or an object-oriented space. It was also hypothesized that children and elderly persons would score more field-dependent and prefer spatially orienting spaces. 64 subjects ages 4 to 85 years were recruited from local schools, various organizations for seniors and adults, given the Embedded Figures Test to measure field dependence, and were compared. Their scores were compared by preference for one of the two environments. Hypotheses were not supported for the spaces overall, however, clear patterns regarding seating preference were identified. Children and seniors had significantly more field-dependent preferences.

Abstract:
This is a critical review of examples of how workers' settlements have been organized throughout history. I examine some examples of workers' settlements from the perspective of spatial organization, architectural economics and urban design. The hypothesis is that workers' dwellings have not basically changed since the earliest civilizations. The role of workers' dwellings has been constantly on the fringes of spatial organization. Generally, workers as a class were not considered an integral part of business management. Workers are part of any industrialized process and cannot be overlooked in an architectural analysis of their dwellings. The conclusions of the paper are oriented from praxis to theory. Analogies from the past to the present are presented, with a set of sketches in which the theory of spatial organization, architectural economics and urban design patterns may be evident.

Abstract:
Space is the main material with which the architect works. The space organized by the means of architecture is an art environment for the life of society. With many aspects of the organization of space, which are studied in the literature, the problem of their assembly and integration remains unsolved. The paper proposes a method of assembling spatial representations in architecture-the correlation of the spatial lattice and the factors of its form-formation, considered in the system, i.e. together. The approach is that in a broad overview of the world architecture, both in its theory and in practice, from historical to modern, examples of modification of spatial grids under the influence of one or a group of dominant factors are revealed. As a result, provisions on the relationship of the geometry of spatial grids with the following factors have been revealed: publicity and privacy; architectonics, the influence of the lattice on the differentiation of the streams of human movement; the architecture’s ability to carry a message; navigation properties, evaluation of connectivity and centrality of places in the spatial lattice; evaluation of the quality of the composition through the identification of ways of order and randomness in the elements of the spatial lattice. The results of the work can be used both for theoretical understanding of the architectural space in the study and design of architecture, and in architectural education.

Abstract:
The article reveals the latest trends in the modern development of the architecture of public centers in large cities, innovative methods of formation in the urban environment, defines their specificity and requirements, analyzes the features, patterns and modern design solutions in conditions of sustainable development. The relevance of this study is associated with the need for new systemic approaches in the formation of multifunctional facilities, taking into account modern urban planning concepts, which allow the formation of new types of public entities and become an important structural element of the urban environment. Turning to foreign experience in organizing multifunctional public centers, one can find that the main components of the architectural formation are their urban planning and the spatial organization of a favorable architectural environment. It is important to note this aspect: for the formation of large public centers in conditions of sustainable development, the following main trends are characteristic: the formation of a developed spatial organization - an architectural and compositional formation. Also a bright architectural and artistic image - a dominant in the urban environment, integration into the natural landscape - ecological direction of sustainable development, effective functional zoning, well-developed engineering infrastructure and communications. Thus, it has been determined that a multifunctional public center in the structure of a large city is a specific type of architectural object, which is formed into a single complex of spatial and planning elements that organize the core of the social and business life of this city.

Flexibility is known as an important term in the field of open buildings especially during modern era. Idea of flexibility has been one of the prominent implications in traditional Iranian architecture emerged in spatial organizations. Although, during modern period this quality of spaces has been mostly ignored some of the contemporary architects attempted to reconsider this characteristic in their projects. However, providing an interview with 7 pioneering contemporary Iranian architects and visiting their 25 residential projects it seems that flexibility has been reinterpreted in some of their projects. This research is an attempt for examining the idea of flexibility in 6 projects of 3 of these architects who were obsessed with this spatial term in their architectural works. Based on the architect’s words and analysis of their projects, and also looking for the roots of flexibility in traditional architecture, it can be asserted that there is an authentic emergence of flexibility in these projects. Examining these projects according to three main indicators of flexibility in modern architecture as structural systems, service organization and architectural layout, it is also tried to find their relation with traditional architecture. Being adapted with new lifestyles while ingrained in cultural and environmental issues of its context, idea of flexibility employed as an authentic characteristic of spatial configuration in some of the contemporary buildings in Iran.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the methodology of organization of functional processes of vital activity in architecture in the form of spatial structures. The primary foundations of the generation and emergence of new forms in modern architecture are considered and comprehended. It is shown that the study of a number of modern architecture objects that mark the history of the formation of the modern movement, through analysis, comparison and identifi cation of unique spatial structures, allows us to establish the relationship between the formalism of modern architecture and the new content of the newest architecture. It is noted that modern architecture in its development is able to rely on its own constituent internal forces, transforming primarily the idea of the organization of the functional structure of space. Today the well-known principles of modern architecture used in architecture by the pioneers of the international movement are freely interpreted and developed by many leaders of the newest architecture. The newest architecture demonstrates an intensifi ed search for new methods of spatial thinking solely for the sake of a breakthrough to new principles of shaping in architecture.

The article presents the results of historical and architectural research into and a scientific hypothesis about the location and architectural and spatial organization of the lost medieval fortress in Novorossiysk. The problem is that information about this object contradicts the data that can currently underlie the correct interpretation and study of the fortress history. Confusion is caused by the fact that four fortifications on the territory of modern Novorossiysk locate in close proximity to each other. They are built almost at the same time. The article focuses on the Sudjuk Kale fortress. The results of archival research show the lack of accurate data on the location and spatial organization of the fortress. The comparative analysis includes the description of travelers and aerial photographs of different periods that clarify the entire structure and shape of the fortress components, and the data on the architecture and spatial organization of other medieval fortresses. The research results determine the structure, shape, size, material of the fortress walls, the presence of the moat around the fortress, four towers at the corners and four entrances at the cardinal points. The obtained results include the new data, computer model and virtual reconstruction of the Sudjuk-Kale fortress.

Abstract:
The aim of the research is identifying the role of the futurological theories of the XX century in the mod-ern design of modular structures in the water environment. The leading research approach is based on the analysis of the principles of habitat organization from the point of view of the main visionary concepts of the XX century, which developed the idea of life on the water in the future, such as: architectural "metabolism", "mobile" architecture, arсology, architectural biomimetics and bionics. The approaches outlined in the framework of the futurological concepts of the last century include modularity, interchangeability of struc-tural elements, adaptation to changes in climatic conditions, application of the principles of growth and ag-gregation in natural systems to the architecture. The revealed approaches have been elaborated in the contemporary architectural concepts devoted to the development of the extreme water environment. Based on the analysis of implemented and conceptual pro-jects of the floating structures on the water, the types of spatial organization of modules are identified: line-ar, continuous, multiple, arbitrary, centralized. A graphical diagram illustrating the mechanism of aggrega-tion of modules for each type is made. These typologies can be applied in further design and experimental developments and theoretical studies in the field of biosphere-compatible architecture in the context of the aquatic environment.

Abstract:
The structural organization of the city's architectural environment, including territories, spaces, and loci, is considered. It is shown that the architectural environment of the historical center of the city is characterized by special subject-spatial inclusions-loci of power. The complex dynamics of the interdependence of social existence and the architectural environment determines the relevance of studying the interaction of the locus (architecture) of power and society. The basic features of the architecture of power are considered: sociotechnical character, features of functioning, orderliness of the structure. The author analyzes the advantages and social significance of the power architecture, the latent features of the functional structure, the diachrony of compositional properties and the principles of ensuring closeness. The potential influence of power using architecture semantics is correlated with the processes of implementing algorithms for habitation, distribution, and dominance. The transformation of the status of the architectural space of power is considered not only as an architectural and planning transformation, but also as a change in its semantics and attitude to it. It is argued that the conceptualization of the locus (the assertion of authenticity) is converted into the popularity, influence, and economic growth of the locality. The social significance of loci of power is in their ability to subject-spatial modeling of social reality; in the formation of the potential for relieving social tension; in prompting the behavior of social actors in non-standard situations. It is noted that modern spaces of power are characterized by a gradual rejection of traditional closeness in favor of simulated openness. It is stated that the image of the architectural space of power is one of the angles of the socio-historical portrait of power.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of architectural-spatial and historical-cultural value of traditional settlements as objects of architecture and urban planning and the potential of their possible use in the formation of the habitat of modern settlements. Particular attention is paid to the definition of urban, architectural-planning and architectural-artistic features of the spatial organization of the living environment of traditional settlements. This is a kind of vector for further development and improvement of this environment as a holistic functional and aesthetic system that improves living standards, as well as economic, social and environmental security. In the twentieth century, Western architecture tended toward globalization, and in Eastern Europe, planned industrial construction was carried out - all these measures damaged the traditional architectural environment in European countries. Architecture has become insensitive to certain regional and national features, architectural objects have become identical and faceless, cities and towns have lost their national flavor - all this has impoverished the architectural environment. Now this faceless environment oppresses residents, complicates spatial identification. Architectural and construction activities, which avoid original features, have long deprived cities and villages of attractiveness. Settlements began to look like randomly layered, independent layers. To take into account national characteristics, you need to show correctness, respect and knowledge. Moreover, all this is leveled by the pursuit of material gain. At the same time, they talk about the search for harmony, but for some reason this harmony is sought in remote abstractions, although the direct path to it lies on the surface - in national architectural features that have a whole set of aesthetic and utilitarian means for such harmony, and even those produced for local natural environment for centuries. Also for centuries, each nation has worked out the set of elements that best suits its mentality and local conditions. The problem is only in the interest of specialists, in the will and in knowledge. However, despite a number of studies in this area, systemic knowledge is still lacking, which is often the reason for the lack of desire to apply traditional features in architecture, including in the architecture of modern settlements.

Abstract:
Architectural drawings, which are projections of spaces on a paper surface, can be categorized according to the projections’ directional and temporal relation with the represented space. A projection becomes a documentation when it departs from an existing spatial organization for recording it on paper. The projection serves the design process when it departs from the present to foresee a spatial proposal in the future. While the former records the present within limited interpretive range, the latter is more constructive. While these two types of projections are known widely, there is another highly interpretive type of projection, the potentials of which, are generally underestimated. As the architectural historian’s tool, this third projection type represents bygone architecture. The task of this drawing, which is one of the least questioned issues of architectural history, is to restore an incomplete image by referring to material and textual sources. This drawing type contributes to the methodology of architectural historiography while conceiving, explaining and representing space. For illustrating this situation, this study analyzes the vernacular settlements and their environmental integration because this selected context reveals the interpretive nature of the third type of projection in a successful way. In this framework, the cut-away axonometric is considered as an appropriate drawing method for uncovering the integrity between architecture and its site or culture and nature. The outcome of this theoretical insight into the prolific relations between drawing and architectural history is coined as “environmental representation.”In history architectural products have been integral components of the environment. Then, the architectural representation of historical buildings through drawings becomes critical since the majority of architectural drawings tend to isolate buildings from their environment. This conventional representation of historical architecture has been the dominant tool of typological analysis. Typology, which is intertwined with plan drawings, categorizes historical buildings according to their spatial, structural and material organizations and disengages the buildings from their socio-cultural and environmental context. If this methodological problem of typology is regarded as a problem of drawing, a new mode of “environmental representation” can be proposed. This study proposes “environmental representation” of architecture through cut-away axonometric. This graphic proposal is based upon the theoretical references of “environmental aesthetics”, which is an interdisciplinary field analyzing the participatory human engagement in environment. “Aesthetics,” as a term, defines this bodily engagement into environment through the use of all human senses. In this theoretical framework this study challenges the assumptions of scientific theory for architectural representation of the “abstracted object” and proposes an alternative method of “environmental representation” on the basis of “aesthetics”. Within this scope, the proposed cut-away axonometric drawings produced by the author is analyzed in order to represent exemplary historical contexts of architecture selected through the vernacular settlements of the Anatolian Mediterranean.

Abstract:
We argue technology and organization are inherently spatial phenomenon. We conceptualize this conjunction as atmosphere: a gathering of mood, human practice, material and environmental conditions, and values that has sufficient coherence and distinction to constitute a distinct interior. Atmospheres, however, are not entirely stable and present: the interior is porous to outside influence, and the interior is never wholly ordered. We show this through the study of digitally mediated architectural design practice. We find the technological mediation of atmospheres is constituted in sensory and affective spatial arrangements, and not in rationally calculated configurations of assets and goals. An atmosphere is inherently aesthetic. This allows us to gesture toward a definition of organization as technologically mediated spatial struggle to reconcile interior coherence with outward exposure.

Iranian architecture and urbanism have developed in a historical process based on the different needs of people. The evolution of traditional Iranian architecture and urbanism may be characterized by eight factors: introversion, spatial organization, function of different parts, lifestyle, construction method, communication between houses, climatic conditions, and relationship with nature. In the recent decades, however, Iranian architecture and urbanism have faced a blind imitation of foreign cultures. The majority of modern buildings do not reflect the national identity of Iranian people. This paper investigates the architectural and urban transformation in Iran based on the rearrangement of building spaces. In doing so, the paper explores the development process of major interior and exterior elements such as public entrances, private entrances, kitchens, rooms, yards and open spaces. As a conclusion, while traditional Iranian architecture attempts to preserve the national identity and meet the different needs of Iranian people, the modern architecture is a blind imitation of western cultures.

The organization of the architectural environment was interpreted as a spatial embodiment of a fixed set of requirements and parameters. Even the ideology of past eras has retained faith in the «static» nature of architecture. Rational utilization of the mutual interdependence of construction factors of spatial interface is proposed for effective enclosure, limitation, guidance and organization. This is beneficial in realizing the ordered combination of multilevel space, so that the changes and development of space can be conducted in an orderly manner under the organization of various interface elements. This can also avoid the one-sided subjectivity of “either this or that” in the train of thoughts of composing, to form a holistic comprehension towards spatial configuration.

Abstract:
The synthesis of scientific knowledge obtained within individual disciplines became one of the leading trends in science in the latter half of the 20th century. Together with the existing disciplinary organization and the structuring of science according to the respective specializations, interdisciplinary methodology is being actively developed, problem and project approaches to research are increasingly being applied, the paradigm of integrity is being established. Such processes have also affected design, both theoretical and practical aspects of work. Considering the interdisciplinary interaction of design with other art forms, architecture appears to be most appropriate, given the commonality of design and architectural design dating back to the mid-20th century. Many architects design objects and placing them in their architectural constructions; and designers work with architectural projects, creating a «shell» for their design objects. There is a semantic organization in these processes, the study of which is relevant in view of the emerging paradigm of integrity in science. The aim of research reveals the interdisciplinary interaction between design and architecture, and represents the relevant projects of designers and architects. The results can be used to broaden the understanding of interdisciplinary methodology regarding to its emergence and formation in design and architecture, as well as their current project results. The scientific paper describes some of the professional patterns inherent in design and architecture that unite these arts in filling the object-spatial environment. Common meaning organization of design and architectural subject culture in comparison with samples of «pure» art is also noted, the direct inclusion of these objects in the life canvas of each individual is emphasized. The interdisciplinary interaction of design and architecture contributes to their mutual filling. For design work, the main priority of interdisciplinarity is in studying the architectural heritage that far exceeds the design culture over time. For architectural activity it is possible to expand its professional boundaries by mastering the specifics of design methodology, as well as to optimize the project process in creating a coherent and harmonious structure of building. Interdisciplinary interaction is evident in project activities of modern designers and architects. The projects of American designer Karim Rashid, who works on both: the industrial design projects and objects for the architectural environment, are of particular interest. Architectural bureau «Zaha Hadid Architects», once headed by the Iraqi-British architect and designer of Arab origin Zaha Hadid, also conducts interdisciplinary project activity, touching both design and architecture. The projects of Gerrit Ritveld, designed more than a hundred years ago, confirm the extent of interdisciplinary links in design, architecture and art, reflecting the objectivity of these processes.

Abstract:
The article raises the problem of architectural stylistics. The origin and existence of the concept of global style is determined. Its unifying role in the diversity of style pluralism. Understanding of an architectural form cannot claim completeness if there is no information about the process of its formation - architectural formation. Khan-Magomedov suggested two scenarios for the development of their relationship. Or each of the Superstyles will occupy its niche in the subject-spatial environment and will function in parallel, without touching each other. Or Superstyle will replace each other and in turn will dominate. The history of architecture is an integral part of social history. Cycles in the temporal aspect are divided into: short-term (from one to several years), medium-term (quarter of a century), long-term (half a century), centuries-old (civilizational), millennial (supercycles). Synergetics is an interdisciplinary field of research, which aims to learn the general principles underlying the processes of self-organization of systems of various natures, which involve a spontaneous transition from chaos to order and back in open nonlinear environments. The starting points of synergetics, as well as the post-nonclassical scientific paradigm, are considered: interdisciplinarity; nonlinearity; coevolution; self-organization; ideas of global evolutionism, synchronicity and systematics. This allows you to change the nature of perception of the history of architecture - to translate it from the ascertaining level, to the explanatory level. The idea of Superstyle can serve to understand style in terms of democratic and global culture, as well as become a methodological tool for explaining and describing stylistic pluralism in architecture.

Abstract:
Abstract- A political regime generally possesses an identity and has insight into nationally idealistic cultural values. Its expression can be observed in the art and physical architecture that blossoms in its era. This insight gives birth to national identity. The formation of national identity itself originated from several dimensions, namely the sub-national dimension, the personal dimension, and the supra-national dimension. In the transition between the Netherland-East Indies and the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia as a new country possessed ideals in the formation of physical architectures that can represent its national identity. This insight is realized in detail within nation-building and character-building ideas within several mega-projects pioneered by the Old-Order government. One of them was the Istiqlal Mosque as a national house of worship. The expression of Istiqlal Mosque architecture cannot be separated from the dimensions of national identity formation in architecture. The focus of this research is on the observation of Istiqlal Mosque architecture. Indicators of the national identity’s expression in Istiqlal Mosque architecture are: the discussion of national-identity dimensions in architecture (national-identity dimension – sub-national dimension, national-identity dimension – personal identity and national-identity dimension- supra-national identity). The discussions of expression in architecture that can be achieved through visual composition formation are (a) domination, (b) repetition, and (C) continuity in composition of one architectural object. The object of architecture was further examined, arranged by form and material, general design principles, contextual relations, and physical, semantic and spatial organization of an architectural object. The Istiqlal Mosque is one example of an architectural product from the previous political regime that can profoundly and critically sharpen our thoughts concerning the Indonesian nation’s identity on the national and state level. Keywords: national identity, nation-building and character-building, sub-national dimension, personal dimension, supra-national dimension, Istiqlal Mosque

Abstract:
Abstract Since the late-20th century, there has been a transition from an industrial society to an ‘information network society’. ‘The production, organization and dissemination of knowledge’ began to change rapidly at the start of the 21st century, whereas this situation was met by the more effective search, use and evaluation of all kinds of information by library users. This work has focused on how the paradigm shift in information technology differentiates the functions and architecture of the 21st century ‘next-gen’ libraries from the traditional sort. Constituting the sample area of the study, the Oodi Library and its architectural features was examined within the context of ‘new architectural design criteria’, such as accessibility, symbolism, spatial organization, access to collections, self-study and integration, both in situ and by means of literature research. In research, it was observed that libraries need to be designed in line with new architectural design criteria, keeping the digitalization of information and integrating new information technologies in the forefront. The paradigm shift in information technology with digitalization has been the catalyst that transforms the libraries of the 21st century into centres of intellectual life, while reinforcing their role as a symbol of education, equality, transparency and civilization.
