The work reported in this article developed a home automated system using voice activation. This is with a view to providing users complete control over electrical appliances using simple easy to remember voice commands on an Android mobile device. This work was implemented using the Atmega 328 microcontroller, Relays and a Wi-Fi shield. The human voice is first converted to text using a Natural language processing tool from the Android based application. Thereafter, the text is sent over the internet via the PubNub to the microcontroller. The Atmega 328 microcontroller was programmed on an Arduino using C programming language and the Android based application was developed using Android Software Development Kit. Results obtained from the testing show that the implemented system achieves the mean scores of 8, 7.6, and 7.2 for ease of use, learnability and effectiveness respectively justifying the fact that the system is capable of controlling appliances by changing their state (ON/OFF) from remote a location with a response time within the reasonable limit.

The mobile robotics industry is related to creating mobile robots that can move around in physical environments. Different types of mobile robot designs for obstacle avoidance have been experimented in the past based on different sensors, trajectory algorithms, etc. The chapter presents implementation details of different obstacle avoiding robots (OARs) using sensors, Bluetooth module, and IoT modules. The sensor-based obstacle-avoiding robots are designed using ultrasonic sensors and Arduino microcontrollers. Bluetooth-based obstacle-avoiding robots have been designed using Arduino mega and Bluetooth module and an Android application. IoT-based obstacle-avoiding robots can be designed in three different ways, using ethernet shield, node MCU, or Raspberry Pi. Manual sampling and analysis are a part of traditional methods of gas monitoring, and they take a lot of time, are expensive, and yield little information. In this paper, we developed a real time Internet of Things (IoT) system with monitoring sensor’s data using Google Firebase. The main components of the developed IoT system consist of: an IoT gateway, four sensor nodes and a real-time Firebase database with a web application for analytics and display of sensor’s data. It addresses the benefits and drawbacks of various sensor types while outlining the fundamentals of gas detection using electronic sensors. Based on Firebase database and using API interface, the website is designed using Django framework of python. Many academics from across the world are working to reduce the epidemic effect by using robots and drones. The worst thing was after the face mask rule took effect on 1 August, 2020. In Malaysia, millions of contaminated face masks pose a deadly hazard for humans and wildlife. Besides that, there are many Unmanned Ground vehicles (UGV) equipped with a manipulator nowadays, but the main issue was the lack of stability in picking and placing objects. UGV plays an important role as the equipment that can reduce the risk of infection to cleaners to reduce COVID-19 for disposal. In addition, another aim of this research is to define the generalised coordinates for the robot arm. Thus, UGV had been developed by using hardware and software requirements. In terms of hardware, the robotic arm consists of 4 DC servo motors to control the movement of the robotic arm and 1 DC Servo motor to control the movement of the gripper. Besides that, the rocker boogie consists of 6 DC motors that had been switched by using a dual H- Bridge and controlled by Arduino Mega. In terms of software, it used Robo Analyser software to identify the value of position and orientationof each joint correctly, as all these values needed to be used by the controller to tackle stability issues for further research. As a result, this project has novelties that reduced the risk of personnel death by making the disposal process more reliable than the current way, and the safety of the authorities can be improved. Finally, the End Effector position was also successfully retrieved by using the Denavit-Hartenberg method and Forward Kinematic Analysis.

Heat stress can affect negatively human performance, behavior and even health, therefore, mean radiant temperature (MRT) and wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT) measurement and monitoring should be obtained for any environment in which people are constantly exposed.
