A laser drilling technique named the nested-circle method is introduced in this work, in the respect of short-pulse laser processing.it is found that, as the power increases, the depth to diameter ratio of the hole will increase and the minimum number of circles can be set drilled hole reliably is reduced. Further studies have been carried out on the effect of the number of circles in the nested-circle method. Keys of settings the nested-circle method parameters—Outer circle diameter ‘D1’, Inner circle diameter ‘D2’, The Number of circles ‘R’—have been found out.

Lines of dowels originally inserted vertically to depths of 100 and 200 mm in generally fine grained soil across sorted circles were repeatedly surveyed over a 3 year period. Measurements of dowel heave, lean, and lateral displacement provided evidence of circle activity. They suggest that the cumulative soil displacement was radial and that its velocity near the surface increased linearly from zero at the center of a circle to a maximum at the stony border. This permits an estimate of the minimum age of circles. Radial displacement decreased with depth and was probably negligible below an ave

AbstractSquaring the circle, the construction of a square with the same area as a given circle, is one of the three construction problems that the Greeks posed but were unable to solve. Unlike trisecting the angle and doubling the cube, where the impossibility follows from properties of the roots of polynomials, the impossibility of squaring the circle follows from the transcendentality of 𝜋: it is not the root of any polynomial with rational coefficients. This is a difficult theorem that was proved in 1882 by Carl von Lindemann.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper aims to analyse the configuration of factors contributing to research uptake in education, with a particular focus on the Romanian context. One subsequent objective is to identify mechanisms for developing better synergies, not only between educational practice and research but also between these and educational policy. In doing so, the paper argues for shared responsibility among higher education institutions and policymakers for improving the educational system. The paper relies on results from a survey administered to a selected sample of civil servants in the Romanian central administration involved in the planning, evaluation and implementation of public policies in the field of education. Our results address the mechanisms of research uptake and utilisation by the central administration (communication and dissemination strategies, clarity, access and availability of research data, policymakers’ preferences for certain research topics) and the perceived relationship between researchers and policymakers (for example, the strength and nature of the relationship, or policymakers’ general involvement in research studies). The findings of our study pave the way for an in-depth analysis of organizational factors likely to affect research utilisation: research culture and engagement with researchers; the political and managerial context likely to promote research transfer; and the financial context needed to foster quality results.

Abstract:
AbstractWalkability is an important characterization of the degree of pedestrian friendliness in cities, and is also an important element of healthy urban planning. However, due to the heat island effect and climate warming, the poor thermal comfort of walking in summer has seriously hindered residents’ willingness to walk. In this paper, we take Nanhe Community 15-min living circle in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province as an example, simulate the thermal environment in the living circle in summer through ENVI-met software, and calculate the walkability based on the walk score, and simulate the identification of the thermal environment and walkability condition of the living circle. The results show that the overall thermal environment in the study area is poor, especially in the residential and commercial areas where buildings are concentrated, which affects the residents’ willingness to travel, while the thermal environment at the edge of the study area is relatively good due to the factors such as the river. By combining the thermal environment simulation and walkability simulation results, the high walkability-low thermal comfort spaces and low walkability-high thermal comfort spaces are identified. Optimization strategies are proposed for these two types of spaces, in order to provide guidance for the improvement of walkability in the living area.

Abstract:
AbstractInnovation and internationalization are key drivers of competitiveness and performance of business organizations. This study aims to investigate the manifestation of the “virtuous circle” innovation—internationalization and the mediating effect exerted by performance in this circle in business practice, based on the results of a statistical survey of affiliates of multinational companies and domestic companies operating in the ICT sector in Romania. Overall, the results of the study suggest that in both domestic and multinational companies there is a dynamic bidirectional relationship between innovation and internationalization, and part of this relationship is mediated by performance. The study broadens the area of knowledge primarily by exploring this virtuous circle in knowledge-intensive sectors such as ICT, where innovative activity differs from that in traditional industrial sectors. Although there is a quite vast body of literature on the topic, previous studies have focused almost exclusively on manufacturing sectors. Second, the study explores this relationship within the particular context of an emerging economy that has undergone a long and painful process of economic, social, and political adjustment and is looking for new drivers of economic growth. Thirdly, the comparative approach is likely to capture strategic elements in the behavior of multinational companies, which can become models of good practice for domestic companies. Therefore, the findings of the study have management implications at micro and macro level. Thus, the relationship emerging among innovation, internationalization, and performance may concern macroeconomic policymakers in support of sectors with significant growth potential such as ICT. At the same time, managers should consider the potential for increasing competitiveness, both directly and indirectly, that this virtuous circle entails.

Abstract A planar internal gear enveloping drum worm (PIGEDW) reducer is designed for analyzing its contact area. In this paper, the mathematical analysis method of tooth contact is proposed to analyze its contact pattern. Firstly, the PIGEDW mathematical model is created on the basis of the gear meshing theory. Secondly, the simulation model of PIGEDW tooth surface contact is established by MATLAB. Finally, based on the previous step, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the influences of transverse module, radius of the main basic circle and inclination angle of the generating plane on the worm gear contact area. The results show that appropriate change of design parameters is conducive to improving the carrying capacity of PIGEDW. The present study offers a theoretical foundation for the subsequent enhancement of PIGEDW gear.

Abstract Smart pigs are used extensively as part of integrity management plans for oil and gas pipelines to detect metal loss defects, with magnetic flux leakage (MFL) technology being the most-widely used. The MFL signal gives an inferred defect size, not a direct measurement: when the signal is translated into a defect size, it has associated sizing tolerances and confidence levels. The complexity of signal analysis means that these sizing tolerances and confidence levels are difficult to determine and apply in practice. They have a major effect when assessing the significance of the defect,

Abstract:
The immediate short-term reduction of up-front embodied carbon in the built environment is essential for meeting our global climate goals. Embodied carbon can be reduced drastically by integrating aspects of building and materials reuse into all projects. In order to prepare future architectural leaders for this challenge, academia must pro-actively teach circular building design strategies at various points in the curriculum. In particular, this paper explores the benefits and challenges of integrating circular design problems into architectural studio courses. The tools and resources present

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the consideration of the properties of Laguerre points in their constructive relationship with the solution of the problem of transforming a pair of conical curves into two circles. Geometric schemes are presented that reveal the principle of specifying a collinear transformation that establishes a correspondence between conics and their images in the form of circles, including if the Laguerre points defining this transformation are imaginary. In the solution of the problem, a geometric scheme for the formation of the main conjugations of conics is given, one of which

Abstract:
Recently a semiconductor laser with a resonator defined by a concentric-circle waveguide diffraction grating (CCG) was shown to oscillate in a circularly symmetric mode.1 In this paper we discuss the nature of the optically pumped laser emission from such a laser. We have observed in the best case a relatively narrow-divergence beam (<1°) that is circular in cross-section. Superpositions of higher-order azimuthal modes are obtained when asymmetries in the pump or grating structure are introduced. Despite the broad-area geometry of the laser, it does not show evidence of filamentary behavior

Abstract:
We investigate how economic inequality can persist in Latin America in the context of radical falls in political inequality in the last decades. Using data from Colombia, we focus on a critical facet of democratization - the entry of new politicians. We show that initial levels of inequality play a significant role in determining the impact of political entry on local institutions, policy, and development outcomes, which can impact future inequality. A vicious circle emerges whereby policies that reduce inequality are less likely to be adopted and implemented in places with relatively high ine
