Abstract:
Morphometric analysis is the measurement and mathematical analysis of the configuration of the surface, shape, and dimension of landforms. The objective of this study is to characterize the Aynalem and Illala streams using the morphometric parameter. The topographic map at a scale of 1:50,000 taken from the Ethiopian National Mapping Agency was used to characterize the linear and areal aspects. ASTER Digital Elevation Model with 10m resolution was used to characterize the relief aspect. The Arc GIS 10.4.1 was used during the morphometric analysis. The analysis result of the streams is summarized based on the linear, areal, and relief aspects. The area is characterized by a dendritic drainage pattern which is characteristics of massive hard rock terrain. The Aynalem and Illala streams are 4th and 5th order streams. Considering the number of streams in the Aynalem (75.81%) and Illala (74.66%) is composed of first-order streams that indicate a flashy flood and the mean bifurcation value of Aynalem (6.8) and Illala (4.7) shows that the Aynalem area is more structurally affected than Illala but both show less stream integration. The analysis of areal aspects such as elongation ratio, circularity ratio, and form factor has indicated that both streams are characterized as elongated streams, this implies that both streams are flowing in heterogeneous rock material, presences of structural effect, and slow runoff discharge. The other areal aspect such as drainage density, stream frequency, infiltration number, and length of overland flow all show smaller values in both streams. This implies that the streams are characterized by a relatively permeable rock material with a higher infiltration capacity. The relief aspect of the Aynalem and Illala was also analyzed using basin relief, relief ratio, ruggedness number, hypsometric curves, and Hypsometric integral. The streams are characterized by a lower relief ratio and ruggedness number which implies a relatively flat slope and lower relief. The hypsometric curves and the Hypsometric Integral of the streams indicate that the Aynalem and Illala are at the maturity stage. This shows the area is characterized by higher erosion but less affected by recent structures. Based on the morphometric parameter analysis result it is possible to conclude that the stream development is dependent on the topography and geology of the study area and both streams show similar morphometric character.

Abstract:
The article examines some folklore and ethnographic phenomena through the prism of their geographical distribution in the European part of Eastern Slavia. Among them there are: one of the plots of the incantations against erysipelas (“There was Christ / the Virgin Mary, carried / had three roses, the third / all three died / withered / fell, etc.”), the motif of the mythological center in the incantations against snake bite, diseases called “wings” in which a person experiences unpleasant and painful sensations in the shoulder blades, and the practice of their treatment, as well as Trinity memorial rituals of graves “plowing” (sweeping) with greenery. They are all united by the fact that these phenomena are known in Belarus and in the west of European Russia, from where they spread to the Russian Northwest. These phenomena have different origins. The plot of incantations against erysipelas is found in German, Polish and Baltic traditions; the name of the disease krilishchcha unites the Belarusian tradition with the northwestern Russian and Latvian; the motif of the mythological center in incantations against snake bites is most likely of East Slavic origin, and the practice of Trinity memorial “plowing” of graves was probably initially limited to the Novgorod-Pskov-Smolensk area. The article is provided with 4 maps.

Abstract:
Borrowing, or diffusion, of grammatical categories in language contact is not a unitary process. In the linguistic area of the Vaupés in northwest Amazonia, several different mechanisms help create new contact-induced morphology. Languages which are in continuous contact belong to the genetically unrelated East-Tucanoan and Arawak families. There is a strong cultural inhibition against borrowing forms of any sort (grammatical or lexical). Language contact in the multilingual Vaupés linguistic area has resulted in the development of similar – though far from identical – grammatical structures. In Tariana, an Arawak language spoken in the area, reanalysis and reinterpretation of existing categories takes place when diffusion involves restructuring a pre-existing category for which there is a slot in the structure, such as case. A new grammatical category with no pre-existing slots may evolve via grammaticalization of a free morpheme – this is how aspect and aktionsart marking was developed. The development of a five-term tense-evidentiality paradigm involves a combination of strategies: reanalysis with reinterpretation accounts for the obligatory tense marking, and the history of visual, inferred and reported evidentials. The nonvisual evidential evolved via grammaticalization of a lexical verb while the most recent, assumed, evidential involves reanalysis and reinterpretation of an aspect marker and grammatical accommodation.

Abstract:
Despite a vast literature on Yiddish relative clauses, their linguistic and geographical aspects have often been neglected. Based on data from the Language and Culture Atlas of Ashkenazic Jewry (JCAAJ), the areal distribution of subject and oblique relative clauses is analyzed for the first time. I show that vos ‘that; what’, which also introduces non-relative complement clauses, is the most common element to introduce subject relative clauses, whereas in oblique relative clauses, the pronoun velx- ‘which’ predominates. This contrast suggests a division of labor between nonpronominal and pronominal elements depending on the syntactic role of the relativized NP. As to the areal aspect, vos accompanied by a resumptive personal pronoun is primarily used in Central Eastern and Southeastern Yiddish, whereas nonrelative comple-mentizing vos is typical of Southeastern and central Northeastern Yiddish. These areal distributions mirror patterns of coterritorial Slavic languages: The more widespread use of nonrelative complementizing vos is reminiscent of the corresponding use of Ukrainian ščo and Belarusian što ‘what; that’, whereas the preference for resumptive personal pronouns is observed in Polish and Ukrainian. Comparatively recent convergence with Slavic seems to play a role in the emergence of resumptive pronouns and nonrelative complementizing vos in the varieties of Yiddish.*

Abstract:
Pattern geometry plays a major role in determining oil recovery during waterflooding and enhanced oil recovery operations. Although simulation is an important tool for design and evaluation, the first step often involves rough calculations based upon areal sweep efficiencies of displacements in homogeneous, two-dimensional, scaled, physical models. These results are available as a function of the displacement pattern and the mobility ratio M. In this research I studied the effect of mobility ratios on five-spot and staggered waterflood patterns behavior for areal (2D) displacement in a reservoir that is homogeneous and isotropic containing no initial gas saturation. Simulation was performed using Eclipse 100 simulator. Simulation results are presented as graphs of areal sweep efficiency at breakthrough versus Craig mobility ratio for various staggered line drive aspect ratios. The main results of the study are presented in the form of a graph of areal sweep efficiency at breakthrough as a function of staggered line drive aspect ratio. This should enable engineers to utilize the results in a convenient manner.

Yildirim, Ismail. "Surface Free Energy Characterization of Powders." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/27525.

Full text
Abstract:
Microcalorimetric measurements and contact angle measurements were conducted to study the surface chemistry of powdered minerals. The contact angle measurements were conducted on both flat and powdered talc samples, and the results were used to determine the surface free energy components using Van Oss-Chaudhury-Good (OCG) equation. It was found that the surface hydrophobicity of talc increases with decreasing particle size. At the same time, both the Lifshitz-van der Waals (gSLW) and the Lewis acid-base (gSAB) components (and, hence, the total surface free energy (gS)) decrease with decreasing particle size. The increase in the surface hydrophobicity and the decrease in surface free energy (gS) can be attributed to preferential breakage of the mineral along the basal plane, resulting in the exposure of more basal plane surfaces to the aqueous phase. Heats of immersion measurements were conducted using a flow microcalorimeter on a number of powdered talc samples. The results were then used to calculate the contact angles using a rigorous thermodynamic relation. The measured heat of immersion values in water and calculated contact angles showed that the surface hydrophobicity of talc samples increase with decreasing particle size, which agrees with the direct contact angle measurements. A relationship between advancing water contact angle qa, and the heat of immersion (-DHi) and surface free energies was established. It was found that the value of -DHi decrease as qa increases. The microcalorimetric and direct contact angle measurements showed that acid-base interactions play a crucial role in the interaction between talc and liquid. Using the Van Oss-Chaudhury-Goodâ s surface free energy components model, various talc powders were characterized in terms of their acidic and basic properties. It was found that the magnitude of the Lewis electron donor, gS-, and the Lewis electron acceptor, gS+, components of surface free energy is directly related to the particle size. The gS- of talc surface increased with decreasing particle size, while the gS+ slightly decreased. It was also found that the Lewis electron-donor component on talc surface is much higher than the Lewis electron-acceptor component, suggesting that the basal surface of talc is basic. The heats of adsorption of butanol on various talc samples from n-heptane solution were also determined using a flow microcalorimeter. The heats of adsorption values were used to estimate % hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity and the areal ratios of the various talc samples. In addition, contact angle and heat of butanol adsorption measurements were conducted on a run-of-mine talc sample that has been ground to two different particle size fractions, i.e., d50=12.5 mm and d50=3.0 mm, respectively. The results were used to estimate the surface free energy components at the basal and edge surfaces of talc. It was found that the total surface free energy (gS) at the basal plane surface of talc is much lower than the total surface free energy at the edge surface. The results suggest also that the basal surface of talc is monopolar basic, while the edge surface is monopolar acidic. The results explain why the basicity of talc surface increases with decreasing particle size as shown in the contact angle and microcalorimetric measurements. Furthermore, the effects of the surface free energies of solids during separation from each other by flotation and selective flocculation were studied. In the present work, a kaolin clay sample from east Georgia was used for the beneficiation tests. First, the crude kaolin was subjected to flotation and selective flocculation experiments to remove discoloring impurities (i.e., anatase (TiO2) and iron oxides) and produce high-brightness clay with GE brightness higher than 90%. The results showed that a clay product with +90% brightness could be obtained with recoveries (or yields) higher than 80% using selective flocculation technique. It was also found that a proper control of surface hydrophobicity of anatase is crucially important for a successful flotation and selective flocculation process. Heats of immersion, heats of adsorption and contact angle measurements were conducted on pure anatase surface to determine the changes in the surface free energies as a function of the surfactant dosage (e.g. hydroxamate) used for the surface treatment. The results showed that the magnitude of the contact angle and, hence, the surface free energy and its components on anatase surface varies significantly with the amount of surfactant used for the surface treatment.<br>Ph. Abstract:
My thesis research provides an alternative argument for the protection of the wilderness that extends far beyond that of the purely biological and instead looks at wilderness for the intrinsic value, focusing on the social and cultural aspects. Through an ethnographic approach, I uncovered the how, why, and in what context people connect with wilderness and how people lean on these experiences. Through analysis of the interviews and data that was collected, I was able to identify tangible and intangible values associated with wilderness exploration and understand how these social and cultural aspects manifest themselves in people's day-to-day lives.

Abstract:
This study looks at green roofs in a Mediterranean environment. A green roof is a structure installed on the roof of a building and is characterised by a thin substrate layer and limited vegetation growth. In the last few decades the use of green roofs has become common in North America and Central Europe, though it has only recently begun to spread to the Mediterranean area. There are a variety of different climates in the Mediterranean area, but overall it is differentiated from North America mainly in terms of thermal properties, rainfall variability, and social conditions. In a Mediterranean context, the specific peculiarities of a green roof are added to by wide temperature variations between day and night, by the effects of climate change, and by the scarce availability of water. Green roofs can reduce rainwater runoff, thereby lessening the burden on drainage systems, improve the microclimate of buildings (protecting from summer heat and from the cold in winter), and can also help to reduce temperatures in cities as well as contributing to biological diversity. The trials that were carried out for this study took place in Caldes de Montbui (41° 63´ N 2° 16´ E), 205 metres above sea level, and 30 km from Barcelona (Spain), along the Catalonian pre-coastal mountain range. We used a number of different green roof simulations and minimal irrigation conditions (0% - 20% - 40% ET0). In the first part of our study we evaluated the adaptability of twelve different species and the way they interacted. Then we examined the humidity content and substrate temperatures of three species each with a different growth pattern. Our results show that in minimal irrigation conditions there are species which are able to adapt to green roof environments and achieve an increase in biomass as well as adequate vegetational cover and flowering. Different growth forms in the species studied affected the performance of both green roofs in terms of diversity and the capacity to host colonising species.

"Organizational and economic aspects of housing management in deprived areas." Doctoral thesis, KTH, Bygg- och fastighetsekonomi, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-48616.

Abstract:
This dissertation consists of five papers with different objectives. The overall objective is to improve knowledge of effective policies regarding socially deprived large housing estates. All studies deal with the real estate context from a housing company decision-making perspective. The first two papers focus on organisational issues and the following three papers deal with economic issues related to the development of a specific housing area. The research is based on case studies which involve specific methodologies such as interviews, direct observation and collecting data from company accounts. The main message of this thesis is that landlord policies and resources spent on operation and maintenance contribute to local area development. It is also underlined that there is a need for a paradigm shift in Swedish housing, since the regulatory framework appeared to be inadequate. The experience from this study shows that many problems can be solved within the existing laws and through efficient customised property management, but landlords need more effective incentives to improve their policies further. The first two papers address issues about how to organise local management resources in large housing estates. Three different functions were identified: customer service, (e.g. fault-reporting); the letting process; and caretaking (day-to-day management and control over indoor and outdoor areas). The models where more decisions are decentralised lead to better information about the local conditions, make it easier to coordinate work in an area, create more motivation for the staff and make it easier to involve the tenants. This was particularly valuable for socially deprived estates, but the decentralised model raised some moral hazard problems, e.g. the local team create their own agenda, are pressured by certain tenants to give them advantages and that the result is lack of control and consistent housing policy in the company. The third paper deals with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in housing management. Different types of costs are identified and related to the estates’ social condition. The results indicate that a CSR-based management policy leads to approximately 4.5 percent lower annual operation and maintenance costs which improved the company’s profitability, especially if the higher standard of maintenance, made higher rents possible. The study also identified three other benefits of CSR; improved tenant relationship, goodwill and business opportunities and the study is a first step towards a better understanding of the economic consequences of CSR in a real estate-context. The fourth paper analyses the return of the Swedish slumlords, with a focus on a specific area in Malmö. The tenants stayed even though the rent was higher and the quality was lower than in neighbouring areas because of a combination of three factors; rents were paid by different forms of welfare payment, lack of alternatives because of queues to other areas and because some tenants saw an advantage in the “no questions” asked policy that the slumlord followed. It is further argued that the property owners found this slum strategy as profitable either because they hoped to find a “bigger fool” to sell to or because the decision makers in the company had not invested their own money. The study concludes that both tenants and investors were in the end losers, but not the company managers. The fifth paper is an economic evaluation of renovation in socially deprived housing estates. The empirical data indicates that it is profitable to use a clear and active housing management strategy, especially if the rent levels are affected by the standard of management by the landlord. The results also show that the landlord’s policy had positive social effects, both in the form of tenant welfare and in the form of lower costs for Police and the Fire department. The study also indicates that it can be difficult to justify large scale investment purely from a business perspective.<br>QC 20111122

Abstract:
The article provides a survey of aspect-tense (AT) grams in (North) Slavic and Baltic, with some account of Finnic. More recently developed grams (bound morphology and constructions) are evaluated against a deeper diachronic and larger areal backdrop in order to assess the significance of contact as a factor contributing to convergence of Slavic and Baltic varieties in the AT domain. In fact, the amount of actually converging features related to grammatical oppositions in this area is quite small; these are: (i) Prominent parallels in the strict subject- vs. object-oriented division of perfects in Slavic (mainly Belarusian) rural varieties, which must have been supported by an ancient and very stable Baltic model. (ii) Suffixation patterns of stem derivation in Aukštaitian Lithuanian resembling Slavic secondary imperfectivisation. The reasons for a generally low level of mutual influence between Baltic and Slavic are subjected to some methodological discussion.

Abstract:
AbstractUrban greenspaces can affect the physical and mental health of city residents and they can also contribute to improving urban environmental quality in ways that can benefit human health. Dhaka, a megacity with over 22.4 million residents, has progressively lost its greenspace over the past decade as the city has grown and urbanised. This study evaluates the availability and accessibility of greenspace considering its population and residential areas, as well as assessing the changes to greenspace in the last 30 years throughout the city. We utilized secondary data from the 2011 Census and areal imagery to perform the analysis for city wards, the smallest administrative unit, using ArcGIS software. We generated geospatial maps of greenspace distribution and accessibility as well as vegetation, land surface temperature and humidity in different years. Accessibility to greenspace was measured with 100-meter and 300-meter buffer zones, and a total of 56.5 square kilometers area of 77.47 square kilometers of residential area fell under these territories. Changes in vegetation were obtained using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for the years 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020, and a high level of loss in vegetation was observed. Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI) were used to assess the temperature and humidity for the same years. We measured that Dhaka has 2.24% greenspace coverage and only 2 wards out of 110 have greater than 20% greenspace coverage. A highest estimate of 0.003207 square meter per capita greenspace was found at ward-46, which does not even meet the minimum health standard. Increased temperature and decreased humidity were observed in Dhaka city from 1990 to 2020, in a level that may adversely impact on the city population’s public health. We found a high correlation between NDVI with LST and NDMI. In 49% of wards, vegetation and humidity decreased, whereas temperature increased. This study provides noteworthy information on the lack of greenspace throughout Dhaka city. The spatial distribution of greenspace provided in the study has the potential to be useful in taking measures for improving sustainable greenery management in the city area and the health of Dhaka’s growing population.

Abstract:
The two related English-lexifier creole languages Krio (Sierra Leone) and Pichi (Equatorial Guinea) have diverged due to differing contact ecologies since their split in the 19th century. Krio is spoken alongside its lexifier English as well as Atlantic and Mande adstrates. Pichi is spoken alongside Bantu adstrates and has been in contact with its superstrate Spanish, but not with English. I analyse and compare tense, aspect, and mood categories as well as participant marking and serial verb constructions to show that (a) Krio has become more similar to English than Pichi to Spanish because existing overlaps between creole and lexifier forms have facilitated transfer; (b) both Krio and Pichi have, respectively, aligned themselves with the Macro-Sudan and Bantu spread zone typological profiles of their ecologies. I interpret the findings via the stratal-areal contact model (Yakpo 2017a) to explain the divergence of Krio and Pichi as part of the differentiation of the whole African Caribbean English Creole cluster.

Abstract PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF CATHODIC PROTECTION IN CONGESTED AREAS The emphasis of cathodic protection installations is shifting from cross-country pipelines to urban areas and industrial complexes, introducing new problems of maintainability and access for anode installation and test station location. Interference considerations are of more concern as organizations not familiar with cathodic protection technology become involved. Considerations of potential attenuation, anode and test station placement, and current distribution in multipipe configurations will be reviewed with particular emphasis on locatability and maintainability.

The article tackles the main problems related to the specific environment of initial and continuous trainin g of technicians, specialists and experts in the area of forensic science. It has to be notice that the forensic scientists are a special category of personnel of Police and that they can only develop under the umbrella of law enforcement (there is also a category of "independent forensic scientists", working within the areal of Ministry of Justice, but this domain has nothing to do with initial training of such personnel). Also, the main terms and notions used in this domain are carefully explained and defined, for a better understanding and delimitation of the area - due to the fact that currently there are many concept misunderstood, aspect mainly caused by different media surces to present forensic science as a simple domain, with spectacular results in a very short time frame - aspect which as fake as nocive. . The authors are also presenting the Romanian realities related to the system of training this type of personnel, from the point of view of the institutions with attributes of training (Romanian Police Academy, cadet schools, other institutions dedicated to continuous training etc.), along with some aspects related to the tendencies from other countries. The conclusions are intended to bring up the main advantages, as well as the flaws of the training system, as well as proposals linked to possible enhancements, tacking also the tendencies from different sources to promote the concepts linked to the private section of forensic scientists - thus eliminating the so-called monopoly of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work was to determine the possible optimal cost effectiveness of various energy conservation options for new buildings in the local climate. The building energy analysis code Energy-10 was used for this purpose. Three types of savings have been evaluated: energy savings, operating cost savings, and Life-Cycle Cost (LCC) savings. To complete this study, a parametric analysis was performed on the influence on LCC savings due to variations of various individual components (including window characteristics, wall, floor, and roof constructions) and the whole-composite buildings. The initial part of the study focused on examining the impacts of individual components within the capabilities of Energy-10. For example, the impacts of a single window size, orientation, and construction were analyzed. While doing this, all of the other heat loss/heat gain paths were made negligible. Results of this aspect of the work were used to define a shorter list of components and building construction options to evaluate in the following composite-house studies. Then two general categories for the whole-composite buildings were evaluated to assist in analyzing the potential cost-effectiveness and benefits of buildings’ energy conservation options. In these studies, various energy cost escalation rates, economic life times, and replacement costs were considered. Building orientations relative the areal placement of fenestrations were also evaluated. Conclusions are given about combinations of construction elements that make the most economic sense for this rapidly growing population area. While Las Vegas climatic data are considered in this work, the conclusions are more generally applicable in the desert Southwest portion of the US.

Abstract:
Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) is an emerging area with the goal of promoting advanced separation of concerns throughout the software development lifecycle. However, since there are many different approaches to Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP), it is very difficult to identify the essential concepts and properties for supporting the design of aspect-oriented languages and tools, and effectively promote advances in the field of AOSD. In this context, this paper presents a theory of aspects – a conceptual framework for AOP that provides consistent terminology and basic semantics for thinking about a problem in terms of the core concepts and properties that characterize the aspect-oriented style as an emerging paradigm to software development. This theory has been used for evaluating existing aspect-oriented languages and tools and, in special, it has been used to characterize aSide, an aspect-oriented modeling language.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Subsurface uncertainty has a great deal of impact on the development of oil and gas reservoirs, as demonstrated through decades of industry experience. Understanding uncertainty to facilitate robust business decisions across potential scenarios is the cornerstone of successful field development. Although carbon storage is also subject to subsurface uncertainty, the phenomena that impact storage efficiency may not be the same as those influencing oil and gas production. The objectives of this study are to utilize reservoir simulation to Investigate how rock and fluid properties affect CO2 plume size, migration, and trapping mechanisms during- and post-injection, Perform grid size sensitivity to define resolution requirements, and Quantify the impacts of coarse simulation grid and the requirements of monitoring resolution. We present how reservoir conditions (i.e., temperature, pressure, and salinity) affect fluid properties and carbon storage performance. Reservoir temperature and pressure are considered both independently and together along geothermal gradients. A similar investigation also provides the sensitivity result based on varying SCAL (i.e., relative permeability and capillary pressure) parameters. For the grid size sensitivity, the findings demonstrate that an accurate plume size requires a fine vertical grid resolution, while the areal grid resolution impacts the dissolution rate. We make gridding scheme recommendations for reliable predictions based on these findings. We also analyze the result to quantify the error due to coarser grid size and the requirements for appropriate monitoring resolutions. The results from the sensitivity study can help categorize storage site potential. The grid size study provides crucial information to develop reservoir simulation best practices in evaluating carbon storage candidates. Another aspect of a carbon storage operation is the monitoring plan to ensure the containment of the injected CO2. Since the geometry of the plume continues to evolve post-injection, the simulated predictions can guide the selection of monitoring technology with appropriate resolution necessary to capture the CO2 plume at various timeframes.

Jacobsen, Nils. Linjebussens vekst og fall i den voksende byen: en studie av bybussenes geografiske kvalitet Stavanger – Sandnes 1920 – 2010. University of Stavanger, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.31265/usps.244.

Full text
Abstract:
Linear city bus services are facing increased challenges from city growth. Increased number of inhabitants on increasing acres of built-up areas, makes it demanding to maintain adequate bus services within reasonable catchment areas. Number of departures per hour give a partial description of the bus service quality. Number of departures give reference to the time aspect of bus service quality, but say nothing about the geographical aspect. What part of the entire line network is within reach of direct bus service when frequencies are limited? To address the geographical aspect of bus service quality, the term network ratio is introduced. The term Network Ratio (NR) signifies what part of the entire line network is within reach of direct bus service to or from a certain place in the network. Network Ratio is given as a mathematical term whereby direct bus lines are calculated as a percentage of the entire network. The character and development of Network Ratio in a specific city is illustrated through an analysis of the urban growth of line network and built-up areas in the twin cities of Stavanger and Sandnes. The analysis is covering the period 1920 – 2000 in intervals of 20 years from the first bus lines were established in the urban area. Year 2010 is also included due to major changes implemented right after the turn of the millennium. Development show there is a close relation between bus network and built-up areas. When areas are being built, bus lines follow. The initial fase 1920 – 40 with extensive development of bus lines combined with some areal growth, is followed by a fase of consolidation 1940 – 60. The latter period is characterized by moderate areal growth, extended lines reducing network ratios, and increasing frequencies on the best bus lines. Extensive areal growth in the following period 1960 – 80, implies increased number of bus lines. As a consequence network ratios as well as frequencies are falling in the entire network. In 1960 certain lines had developed as much as 6 departures per hour, while maximum bus line frequency in 1980 has diminished to 2. New bus service development is introduced in the following period between 1980 and 2000. Numerous bus companies are united, and a more comprehensive planning of bus services are applied. The number of bus lines is stabilized at about 40, the fall in network ratio is reduced, and certain lines develop 4 departures per hour. Parallell to the bus development, growth of built-up areas is slowing down due to increased urban renewal with higher densities within built-up areas. In the period 2000 – 2010 new efforts are given to the development of bus services. Development of Network Ratio takes a new direction: The length of network links with high NR is increasing, while links with very low NR are diminishing. Number of bus lines is decreasing, and by 2010 almost 50% of the bus lines are served with 4 departures or more. Passenger comfort is improved in buses as well as on bus stops, and low floor buses are introduced to ease accessibility. Bus service quality is further developed after 2010. Digital services are introduced including digital ticketing, bus service information and real-time information on internet. In addition real-time information is presented at high frequency bus stops through visual screen and auditory speaker. Inside the buses name of next stop is given on screen and through loudspeaker. Further development of the bus services, should include improved Network Ratios in the entire network, as well as increased frequencies on major bus corridors. The latter is a task not only for the bus service planners, but just as well for the city planners and politicians in collaboration with the developers implementing urban density and allocation of important destinations. A last, but not least, objective for bus service development will be to improve punctuality and total travel time. Today a considerable proportion of city bus services are delayed in car traffic congestions. This is occurring especially on main streets and during rush hours. A set of different solutions are needed to address this question: 1. Dedicated bus streets (including car access to limited addresses) 2. Bus lines through local streets in concentrated housing, office and shopping areas. 3. Dedicated bus lane on main streets where possible. 4. Car traffic regulations on main streets without space for extra bus lane. As an overall vision, we need to cultivate the word of Flemming Larsen: urban growth as pearls on a string, as shown in fig. 13 and fig. 14.

Abstract:
This Evidence Check examines how clinicians’ experience of providing healthcare has been defined and measured. The review was conducted within the context of substantial change and innovation within NSW Health, focusing on the clinical and supportive care aspects of the clinician role. The research found was limited and mainly qualitative. Clinician experience was either defined inconsistently or not defined at all. However, the research did show that clinician experience was complex, involving both individual psychology and organisational outcomes. Few survey questionnaires had been developed to measure clinician experience, and those that had were either focused on the situation in a particular time and place rather than being suitable for use across a wide variety of contexts in healthcare, or focused only on a narrow aspect of clinician experience. Overall, the review shows a relatively underdeveloped area of research, in need of more focus to enable policy-makers to better understand clinician experience.

Full text
Abstract:
This report synthesises the city reports of the “Spatial aspects of de-radicalisation” work package from the D.Rad project. Within this work package, we studied mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion in public spaces to relate these dynamics to de-radicalisation processes and issues of social cohesion. We conceptualise public spaces as spaces that are characterised by unequal power relations, and as a realm in which people from different backgrounds have daily encounters. These spaces are not merely physical locations but arenas where societal norms, values, and power structures are negotiated. Public spaces are therefore an important sphere for primary prevention programmes that target society as a whole, which is why we conceptualise policies targeting social cohesion in public spaces as implicit de-radicalisation policies. Following previous research, we argue that public spaces can either foster belonging and inclusion, or exacerbate marginalisation and alienation, meaning that they are potentially drivers of radicalisation but that they can also prevent the alienation of individuals. Within this work package, we focused on five very different European cities—Florence, Helsinki, Tbilisi, Prishtina, and Vienna—each facing unique challenges related to public spaces. The data collection followed three main steps: a literature review, interviews with experts in the field, and the organisation of two participatory focus group workshops in each of the five cities, focusing on one neighbourhood in-depth. This synthesis report presents a comparative analysis of the empirical findings from the city reports and gives insights into each city context and the in-depth case study as well as examples of best practices and contested areas and contrasts the perceptions and approaches of stakeholders with the perceptions and proposed solutions of young users of local public spaces. Based on the empirical insights, this synthesis reports argues that planning procedures, governance systems, and research should strive to involve a wide range of stakeholders to recognise the varied needs and vulnerabilities of different user groups. Furthermore, the availability of resources and public infrastructure is crucial, as a lack of public spaces or the neglect of them often intensifies conflict and competition among users. The report concludes with a discussion of how inclusion, exclusion, and social cohesion within public spaces can influence broader de-radicalisation processes, outlining how public spaces hold significance as part of primary prevention efforts. The inclusivity or exclusivity within these spaces can impact feelings of belonging and social cohesion, which are integral to countering radicalisation and which contribute to creating environments where individuals feel accepted or at least tolerated.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the state of development of Ukrainian advertising in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Studying the work of Ukrainian advertising agencies during the war is a unique experience of Ukrainian specialists during the war. The article emphasizes that Ukrainian advertising agencies have become an example for global corporations with their resilience and courage. The study of the place of Ukrainian advertising agencies in the world system made it possible to state that the domestic industry is developing in step with the world one. This was facilitated by the fact that Ukrainians quickly adapt to modern technologies and catch global trends. In some areas of advertising, Ukrainian agencies are one step ahead of European and American ones. Communication with Ukrainian heads of advertising campaigns, marketers and target specialists, who were directly involved in the “rescue” of companies at the beginning of the war, made it possible to find out how the business development strategy changed, what tactical solutions they used at the beginning of the war, and how they optimized the work of the team. The results of the research give grounds for asserting that in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, many brands have developed new rules for content and communication in social networks. The content strategy of brands needs maximum adaptation to new realities. The traditional division of content into branded, selling, fan and interactive content is losing its relevance. This market niche is occupied by social, supportive and useful content. In particular, as an example of social brand content, we can name: the national position of an advertising agency, support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, assistance to consumers, new adapted services, HR information about agency support, assistance to temporarily displaced persons, volunteering. Ukrainian advertising agencies were able to quickly adapt to the conditions of the war, entered international markets, took care of their employees and continue their work. Keywords: advertising, agencies, Russian-Ukrainian war, social networks, work with clients, personnel problems.

Abstract:
This paper examines empirically and spatially how welfare gains are realized in a land pooling scheme in four ADB-financed Local Area Plans (LAPs) in Thimphu city, Bhutan. Increased government efforts are required to take advantage of the full range of benefits of land pooling for Thimpu residents. The paper recommends a mix of fiscal and urban policy levers to address inefficiencies associated with the existing build-out pattern and infrastructure service quality. It offers insights on how unplanned development occurring outside serviced LAP areas, including along steep slopes and peri-urban areas in Thimphu thromdes, can be addressed most effectively. This paper is the second in a series of three working papers on the topic of land pooling produced by the Asian Development Bank’s South Asia Urban Development and Water Division. The series takes a deeper look at aspects including land pooling’s effectiveness, welfare-improving potential, relationship with safeguard policies, and its prospects as a land management tool in developing country cities.
