Abstract ∙ Adult males of lekking species compete with each other during sexual displays to attract females. Juvenile males usually are inexperienced in displays and they have minimal chances of attracting females that visit adults. Despite this supposed lack of competition between adults and juveniles, inexperienced juveniles of the White‐bearded Manakin (Manacus manacus) that try to rehearse displays in lek areas may be chased aggressively by adult males. Here, I describe same‐sex mounting behavior between M. manacus adults and juveniles. Two juvenile males entered the arenas of two high‐ran

Here we present studies of forest floor vegetation at establishment, which supplements and complements

Spatio-temporal studies were conducted on the impact of physico-chemical parameters on the biodiversity and distribution of macro-invertebrates at selected areas along the shores of Calabar River, Nigeria. Results revealed the distribution of 3601 macro-invertebrates fauna, which consisted of 13 species, belonging to 3 phyla which were represented by Arthropoda, Mollusca and Annelida. Tympanotonus fuscatus was the most abundant macro-invertebrate species, having a numerical abundance of 1564 (43.43%) while the least abundant species was Potadoma moerchii, which had a total abundance of 3 (0.08

Background: Child labourers are exposed to an insecure environment and higher risk of violence. Violence among child labourers is an under-studied phenomenon which requires contextual assessment. Aims: We applied Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model (micro-, exo- and macro-system) to understand the interplay of individual, community, societal and policy context fuelling violence. Methods: Focus group discussions and family ethnographies of child-labourers working in common occupational sectors of suburban areas of Sindh were carried out to gain in-depth understanding of their immediate environmen

Abstract The Philippines has rich marine resources but are threatened by the effects of climate change and other activities made by humans. There is an inadequate or scarcity in literature on prominent impacts of climate change on the country’s rich biodiversity, specifically on marine ecosystem, thus this study aimed to determine the diversity of marine macro molluscan gastropods and bivalves on the intertidal areas of Ajuy, Iloilo, Western Visayas, Philippines. Marine macro gastropods and bivalves were surveyed monthly from October 2015 to March 2016 and transect method was carried out to as

Abstract:
The material properties of P91 steel, a critical high-temperature heat-resistant steel, are critically dependent on the uniformity of its macro-composition distribution. This paper presents the first application of Spark Mapping Analysis for Large Samples (SMALS) for the non-destructive, full-field characterization of macro-composition distribution in P91 steel ingots and finished tubes. To address the analytical challenges posed by large-sized specimens, an innovative partition-based statistical analysis model was developed, enabling the effective demarcation of large-scale macro-segregation

Abstract. The use of remote sensing data for burned area mapping hast led to unprecedented advances within the field in recent years. Although threshold and traditional machine learning based methods have successfully been applied to the task, they implicate drawbacks including the involvement of complex rule sets and requirement of previous feature engineering. In contrast, deep learning offers an end-to-end solution for image analysis and semantic segmentation. In this study, a variation of U-Net is investigated for mapping burned areas in mono-temporal Sentinel-2 imagery. The experimental s

Subject. This article discusses the balanced economic development of the macro-region industrial complex through the most efficient use of available resources. Objectives. The article aims to assess the diversification of the industrial complex of macro-regions based on calculation of three indices and highlight key areas of perspective specialization of macro-regions. Methods. For the study, I used the Herfindahl–Hirschman index, Hoover–Balassa index, and the relative specialization index in the context of federal districts, or macro-regions. Results. The article finds that many macro-regions
