AbstractNortherly winds set up by synoptic conditions are persistent in the marine boundary layer (MBL) off the California coast from late spring through summer. Wind, pressure, and MBL height are modulated as the low-level flow impinges on the points and capes along the California coast. Between 1995 and 2013, we surveyed fishes living around 23 California offshore oil and gas platforms (midwaters, bases, and shell mounds) and 70 natural habitats. These platforms were distributed between about Point Arguello, central California, and Huntington Beach, southern California, had seafloor depths between 49 and 363 m, and were surveyed between one and 16 times. More than 10,000 ha of tomatoes are grown in the field and greenhouses on the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico. Information about the etiology of geminivirus-like diseases affecting tomato crops in all horticultural regions in the area has been difficult to obtain and assess. Since 2001, geminivirus-like disease symptoms have been observed in tomato plants on the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico. These diseases have been associated with large populations of Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) in commercial fields and have caused dramatic decreases in expected yields.
