The quasi-geostrophic equations (QGE) are a model of large-scale ocean flows. We consider a pure stream function formulation and cite results for optimal error estimates for finding approximate solutions with the finite element method. We examine both the time dependent and steady-state versions of the equations. This study evaluates the state of the Niobe fritillary (Argynnis niobe) in Europe, both in terms of (a) current knowledge of its distributional changes and of (b) the genetics of the surviving populations. It uses mitochondrial sequences and microsatellite markers to assess the phylogeographic history of the species, and the impact of the multiple local extinctions at the same time. In our previous study, Rhodotorula taiwanensis sp. nov. , a novel yeast, is an endophyte isolated from Artemisia argyi.
