Abstract:
Seasonal variations in biochemical constituents were observed in muscle and liver of two marine fishes i.e. Gazza achlamys and Ariomma indica. The result indicated that muscle proteins are low in monsoon season in A. indica and in all seasons in G. achlamys. When compared to muscle, carbohydrate and lipids levels are very high in liver tissue of A. indica. Whereas there is a slight difference in G. achlamys. It is well understood from the current study that each habitat group of fishes has its own nutritional value parameters with sense to their different food preferences. This shows the mobil

Abstract:
A survey has been conducted to collect copepod parasites from Gazza achlamys (Jordan & Starks, 1917) and Ariomma indica (Day, 1871) off Visakhapatnam coast. Altogether, seven copepod species were identified. They are Caligus kuroshino (Shiino, 1960), Bomolochus decapteri (Yamaguti, 1936), Bomolochus nothrus (Wilson, 1913), Pseudartacolax lateolabracis (Yamaguti et al., 1959), Pumiliopes opisthopteri (Shen, 1957), Lernanthropus amphitergum (Pearse, 1951) and Lernanthropus ilishae (Chin, 1948). A list of hosts parasites and brief description of these parasites has given in this paper.

Ariosoma bengalense sp. nov. is described on the basis of two specimens having total length (TL) 216–304 mm, collected from the northern part of the Bay of Bengal, India. The new species is characterized by the dorsal-fin origin positioned above the gill-opening margin and above the 9th lateral-line pores, supratemporal pore absent, 9–10 predorsal vertebrae; 46–49 preanal vertebrae and 146–149 total vertebrae. The new species most closely resembles the Indian species Ariosoma gnanadossi, the new species differs from A. gnanadossi having the snout length (SL) longer than eye diameter (snout len

Length-weight relationship was estimated for the deep-sea congrid eel species collected from the trawler landings at Kalamukku, of Kochi, Kerala and Colachel, of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, Arabian Sea, southern India, between February 2021 and August 2022. The samples were obtained from the deep-sea trawlers, operated along the Exclusive Economic Zone of India, Arabian Sea with a cod end mesh size of 35 mm at 200–250 m depth. The estimated b values range from 2.80 to 3.19. Novelty of the study is providing length-weight relationship for two newly described eel species viz. Ariosoma indicum and A

Abstract A new species of congrid eel genus, Ariosoma is described here based on two mature female specimens collected from trawl by-catch landings at Thoothukudi fishing harbour, off Thoothukudi, Bay of Bengal. The new species can be easily distinguished from its congeners in having pre-anal length 48.7–49.1% TL; dorsal-fin origin just before pectoral-fin insertion; body bicoloured, pale brown dorsally and silvery white ventrally; preopercular portion dark; pectoral fin reddish with dark spot at the base; SO canal with six pores; pre-dorsal vertebrae 10–11; pre-anal vertebrae 61–64; total ver
