Redes definidas por software (Software-Defined Networking – SDN) tem como objetivo fornecer uma arquitetura mais sofisticada e precisa para gerenciar e monitorar o tráfego da rede. SDN permite centralizar parte da lógica de tomada de decisão sobre o processamento de fluxo e roteamento de pacotes em dispositivos chamados controladores. Apesar disso, o comportamento dos dispositivos de rede e suas configurações são muitas vezes escritos para situações específicas diretamente no controlador. Isto torna-se um problema quando há um aumento no número de elementos, ligações e serviços de rede, resultando numa grande quantidade de regras e uma elevada sobrecarga relacionada à configuração da rede. Como alternativa , técnicas, tais como gerenciamento baseado em políticas (Policy-Based Management – PBM) e refinamento de políticas podem ser utilizadas por operadores de alto nível para escrever Acordos de Nível de Serviço (Service Level Agreements – SLAs) em uma interface amigável, sem a necessidade de alterar o código implementado nos controladores. No entanto, o refinamento de políticas na nova área de pesquisa SDN tem sido um tema negligenciado, em parte, porque o refinamento não é um processo trivial. Ao utilizar SLAs, a sua tradução para políticas de baixo nível, por exemplo, regras para a configuração de elementos de comutação, não é simples. Se essa tradução não for realizada corretamente, os elementos do sistema podem não ser capaz de cumprir os requisitos implícitos especificados no SLA. Neste contexto, este trabalho apresenta ARKHAM: um avançado conjunto de ferramentas de refinamento para manipulação de acordos de nível de serviço em redes definidas por software. Este conjunto de ferramentas é composto por (i) um framework para criação de políticas que usa raciocínio lógico para a especificação de objetivos de nível de negócio e automatização de seu refinamento; (ii) um controlador OpenFlow que realiza a coleta de informações e implantação de configurações na rede; e (iii) uma representação formal de políticas de alto nível utilizando Event Calculus e aplicando raciocínio lógico para modelar tanto o comportamento do sistema quanto o processo de refinamento de políticas para o gerenciamento de SDN. Como resultado, a abordagem é capaz de identificar as necessidades e os recursos que precisam ser configurados de acordo com o refinamento do SLA, podendo assim configurar e executar com sucesso ações dinâmicas de suporte à reconfiguração de infraestrutura.Software-Defined Networking (SDN) aims to provide a more sophisticated and accurate architecture for managing and monitoring network traffic. SDN permits centralizing part of the decision-making logic regarding flow processing and packet routing in controller devices. Despite this, the behavior of network devices and their configurations are often written for specific situations directly in the controller. This becomes an issue when there is an increase in the number of network elements, links, and services, resulting in a large amount of rules and a high overhead related to network configuration. As an alternative, techniques such as Policy- Based Management (PBM) and policy refinement can be used by high-level operators to write Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in a user-friendly interface without the need to change the code implemented in the controllers. However, policy refinement in the new research area of SDN has been a neglected topic, in part, because refinement is a nontrivial process. When using SLAs, their translation to low-level policies, e.g., rules for configuring switching elements, is not straightforward. If this translation is not performed properly, the system elements may not be able to meet the implicit requirements specified in the SLA. In this context, we introduce ARKHAM: an Advanced Refinement Toolkit for Handling Service Level Agreements in Software-Defined Networking. This work presents (i) a Policy Authoring Framework that uses logical reasoning for the specification of business-level goals and to automate their refinement; (ii) an OpenFlow controller which performs information gathering and configuration deployment; and (iii) a formal representation using event calculus that describes our solution. As a result, our approach is capable of identifying the requirements and resources that need to be configured in accordance with SLA refinement, and can successfully configure and execute dynamic actions for supporting infrastructure reconfiguration.

A escolha da obra Asilo Arkham: Uma séria casa num sério mundo como objeto de pesquisa se deu, a princípio, pela possibilidade de se estabelecer uma relação entre a singular versão da aventura de Batman e algumas das propostas investigativas iniciadas pelas vanguardas artísticas do século XX, sobre tudo, o Surrealismo. Por meio de uma análise de suas estratégias narrativas e de sua construção verbo-visual, pretendemos entender em que medida os quadrinhos podem se constituir enquanto meio de investigação capaz de abarcar as propostas investigativas surrealistas e como a linguagem dos quadrinhos pode, de certa forma, atualizar a poética surrealista. Para tanto, propomos uma aproximação entre a literatura e as artes visuais, entendendo a história em quadrinhos como ponto de intersecção dessas duas linguagens. Iniciamos com uma breve contextualização histórica do início da constituição dos quadrinhos modernos, de meados do século XIX até o início do século XX, estabelecendo um fio condutor que conecta os quadrinhos ao surrealismo, seguindo até a gênese de nosso herói/objeto: Batman. Perscrutamos o objeto própriamente dito no primeiro capítulo. Já no segundo, trataremos da presença da poética surrealista desde sua produção, feita à quatro mãos, à suas estratégias narrativas e intertextualidades possíveis. Por fim, no terceiro cápitulo, nos aprofundamos um pouco mais na linguagem dos quadrinhos e suas contaminações interlinguagens (Literatura e Arte) bem como a contribuição que o Surrealismo deixou como herança para as histórias em quadrinhos.The choice of Arkham Asylum: A serious house on serious earth as an object of research was initially based on the possibility of establishing a relationship between the singular version of Batmans adventures and some of the investigate proposals initiated by the artistic avant-gardes of the 20th century, especially the Surrealism. Through an analysis of its narrative strategies and their verbal-visual construction, we want to understand to what extent the graphic novel can be as a means of research capable of embracing the surrealist investigative proposals and how the language of graphic novels can, in a way, update the surrealist poetics. Therefore, we propose an approximation between literature and the visual arts, understanding the graphic novel strip as the point of intersection of these two languages. We begin with a brief historical context of the beginning of the constitution of modern graphic novels, from the middle of the nineteenth century until the beginning of the twentieth century, establishing a guiding thread that connects graphic novels to surrealism, following the genesis of our hero/object: Batman. We will investigate the object itself in the first chapter. In the second, we will treat the surreal poetics of presence from production, made by four hands, to its narratives strategies and possible intertextualities. Finally, in the third chapter, we will delve a bit more in the language of graphic novels and its contaminations Inter languages (Literature and Art) as well as the contribution that Surrealism left as an inheritance for graphic novels.

This paper intends to study carnivalesque elements in the music and sound design of the Batman: Arkham video game franchise. This will be done by examining the ontology of the Batman mythos through the lens of carnivalesque social theory related to the European-American carnival as articulated by Bakhtin and Rabelais.Two expressions of the carnivalesque, the traditional and the Gothic, can be seen and heard in the Arkham video games. These two carnivalesques are essential to understanding both the games themselves and the Batman mythos as a whole. The music and sound design related to selected in-game locales and characters of the Arkham franchise will be studied and linked to the carnivalesque ontology of Batman as an American icon. This study will support the hypothesis that the European-American carnivalesque still plays a literal and figurative role in twenty-first century American society through such icons as Batman.

Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tavoitteena on selvittää, miten opettajan ja terapeutin yhteistyö voi toimia osana kuntouttavaa arkea. Tutkielmassa kuvataan kirjallisuuden avulla kuntoutusta, erityisesti lasten lääkinnällistä ja pedagogista kuntoutusta. Lisäksi tarkastellaan kirjallisuuden avulla sitä, mitä on kuntouttava arki ja mitkä ovat kuntouttavan arjen mahdollisuudet ja haasteet kouluympäristössä. Tutkielmassa selvitetään opettajan ja terapeutin yhteistyön edellytyksiä analysoimalla kahta ohjaavaa tekstiä: Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteita ja Kelan vaativan lääkinnällisen kuntoutuksen etuusohjetta. Analyysimenetelmänä käytetään aineistolähtöistä sisällönanalyysia.
Tutkielman tuloksista selviää, että kuntoutuksen ja kuntoutumisen johtoajatukseksi on nostettu osallistumisen mahdollistaminen yksilön toimintakykyä parantamalla. Kuntoutusta toteutetaan yhä enemmän kuntoutujan omassa arkiympäristössä, lasten kuntoutuksessa keskeinen arkiympäristö on koulu. Kuntouttavan arjen rakentamiseksi tarvitaan kuntoutujan ympärillä olevien ihmisten yhteistä toimintaa, jonka pohjana ovat yhtenäiset toimintatavat ja tavoitteet.
Tuloksista selviää myös, että lääkinnällisen kuntoutuksen ja koulun toiminnan nivominen yhteen ei ole ongelmatonta, sillä niihin liittyvät lait ja ohjeet sekä toteuttajaorganisaatiot ovat erilaiset. Aineistolähtöisen sisällönanalyysin avulla käy ilmi, että teksteissä kuvataan eri ammattilaisten yhteistyö tärkeäksi; kuntoutuksen osalta yhteistyön todetaan olevan kuntoutumisen edellytys. Kummassakaan tekstissä ei kuitenkaan anneta käytännön ohjeita arjen yhteistyön rakentamiseen tai huomioida eri organisaatioiden välillä tapahtuvaan yhteistyöhön liittyviä haasteita.
Kuntouttavassa arjessa tarvitaan eri ammattilaisten yhteistyötä ja yhteistä toimintaa. Yhteistyön toteuttaminen käytännössä vaatii monenlaisten tekijöiden huomioimista ja yhteensovittamista. Opettajan ja terapeutin tiiviin yhteistyön mahdollistamiseksi tarvitaan sivistys-, terveys- ja sosiaalitoimen toimijoiden yhdessä luomia yhtenäisiä toimintamalleja ja -tapoja.

L'espoir de dépasser les contradictions apparentes des Dialogues fait porter l'attention sur l'arkhè, le «point de départ» dont ils procèdent. Or la revue des occurrences d'arkhè désigne l'aveu d'ignorance comme le référent de cette notion. L'examen de l'hypothèse qui rapproche l'arkhè de l'inscience se concentre sur les occurrences de R. VI 509 d 1-511 d 5. Cet examen équivaut à une « expérimentation» destinée à vérifier que le texte autorise une « lecture insolite» fondée sur cette hypothèse. L'expérimentation révèle non seulement que l'hypothèse est compatible avec le texte de la République mais que ce texte se prête à plusieurs lectures successives, à la fois solidaires et opposées, qui en font varier le sens. Le texte déclenche lui-même la critique dont son «sens apparent» fait les frais afin de mettre le lecteur sur la voie d'une révision de cette critique, qui lui donne accès à un « sens caché». O presente trabalho se debruça sobre as experiências artísticas da E² Cia. de Teatro e Dança, Cia. Sansacroma e Nave Gris Cia. Cênica, atuantes na cena paulistana nestes primeiros quinze anos do século XXI, para estudar o fenômeno da “dança negra contemporânea” partindo do conhecimento êmico empregado pelos grupos e das discussões no âmbito da prática artística e dos estudos culturais. Ao reconhecer o território da dança contemporânea por meio de leituras sobre a história recente da dança e de mapeamentos realizados em programas de subvenção, pode-se estabelecer definições do que é considerado pela crítica especializada como “dança contemporânea”. Deste modo, este estudo demostra que sujeitos pertencentes à cultura de Arkhé negra, raros neste panorama, e como as exceções presentes podem refletir em sua experiência cênica elementos dessa cultura, propondo a recriação de sua condição marginalizada de sujeito negro a anunciar outras possibilidades para a criação na dança cênica.
The present study focuses on the artistic experiences of E² Cia. Teatro e Dança, Cia. Sansacroma and Nave Gris Cia. Cênica, operating at the scene in Sao Paulo in these first fifteen years of the 21st century, to study the emergence of “black contemporary dance” starting from the feeling that the artists researched attribute to their practices and also the discussions in the context of creating scenic and of cultural studies. Recognizing the territory of contemporary dance through reading about the the recent history of dance scenic and of the projects presented the programs supporting the dance in the city of São Paulo, can establish definitions of what is considered by critics as “contemporary dance”. In this way, this study demonstrates subject belonging to Arkhé black culture are rare in this panorama and present exceptions may reflect on your scenic experience elements of this culture proposing the recreation of marginalized condition of your black guy announcing other possibilities for building in scenic dance.

The Woodford Shale (Oklahoma, U.S.A.) is a prolific unconventional hydrocarbon resource. The Woodford has been shown to be heterogeneous in many geochemical, mineralogical, and rock mechanic properties across the state of Oklahoma, which presents a challenge to successful exploitation of this resource (Caldwell, 2014; Turner et al., 2015; Wiley, 2015; Zhang et al., 2017). Most prior studies of the Woodford Shale report properties from a single sample collected from a vertical well, which reports these values as a single point source on a distribution map. Studies using outcrop localities report lateral variations in several rock properties of the Woodford, but are limited to the short distances an outcrop provides (Turner et al., 2015). The main focus of this research is to determine whether rock properties important to the productivity of the Woodford Shale vary across a lateral well bore within the Woodford shale. Measurements of chemical and mineralogical compositions were performed on rock cutting samples from a single horizontal well path of the Carleigh 6H-32 across approximately one mile. The mineral makeup was determined by use of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and elemental concentrations were determined by hand-held X-ray fluorescence (HHXRF). What was found is that the Upper and Middle Woodford Shale are relatively homogeneous laterally. The lack of variation means that it’s possible to determine from which subgroup samples may have been taken. The geochemical data were used to calculate a mineral-based brittleness index (Wang and Gale, 2009), which was compared to the measured frack gradient across perforations of the Carleigh 6H-32 well. In addition, the total organic matter content (TOC) was approximated in the same samples using loss on ignition (LOI) methods. The calculated mineralogy within samples assigned to the Middle Woodford show some variability throughout the horizontal well, which leads to an associated variation in mineral brittleness index when using the Wang and Gale (2009) formula. The mineral based brittleness index correlates with observed fracture gradient during well completion. This suggests that the tendency to fracture is also variable along the well path, which should be considered during design of the well completion.

Newly available industry well data and seismic attribute analysis reveal that late Ordovician-early Devonian Hunton Group strata are more widespread (i.e., not removed by mid-Devonian erosion) in the central and southern portions of the Arkoma Basin in eastern Oklahoma than previously thought. This study demonstrates the value of applying seismic attribute analysis to problems of quantifying and mapping stratigraphic features caused by erosions and/or karstification. Well and seismic isochron data in the Red Oak petroleum field for the Viola-Woodford interval (the units that lie stratigraphically beneath and above, respectively, the Huton Group) show isolated ~40-m thick lenses of Hunton rocks, on average measuring 3 km in diameter, with a surrounding halo of karsted rock. This distribution can be explained in two different ways: 1) Hunton occurrences could represent isolated erosional remnants reflecting incomplete removal of the Hunton Group during Middle Devonian time (pre-Woodford unconformity) or 2) due to karsting and collapse of stratigraphically lower units (Viola or Bromide carbonates), lenses of Hunton rocks would have sagged into sinkholes where they were preserved beneath regional base level. Using formation tops from a well data set correlated with attribute and structure maps from a proprietary 3-D seismic data set, we identify three seismic characteristics in the middle Paleozoic interval that correlate well with: 1) absent Hunton seismic markers, indicating that Hunton rocks were completely removed, 2) the Hunton contacts, indicating where a seismically visible section of Hunton rocks remains, 3) absent Hunton but with a thin horizon included within lower carbonate strata that is interpreted to be an incipient karst zone, which is consistently adjacent to areas containing Hunton rocks. The base of the Sylvan Shale and the top of the Woodford Shale, the respective lower and upper adjoining units, form significant chronostratigraphic surfaces. As such, anomalous thicknesses of these units are depositionally related; thick Woodford sections often correlate to thin or absent Hunton rocks, possibly indicating back-filled pre-Woodford channels eroded into or through the Hunton Group. Conversely, when there is little or no Woodford thickening over Hunton lenses and when adjacent areas show thinning and partially karsted Viola rocks, we propose that karstic collapse of Viola strata was responsible for the Hunton rocks preservation. A combination of these models may be necessary to account for areas where we see thinning both in the Woodford and Viola, suggesting that a Hunton lens is structurally lowered due to karsting, but due to its erosionally resistive nature, the lens forms a depositional high, causing the Woodford to thin over it. The 3-D approach is absolutely necessary to reveal the subtle waveform details that illustrate the karstic and erosional processes involved in the preservation of the Hunton wedges. These findings were interpolated, constrained by well data, over the entire Oklahoma portion of the Arkoma basin in order to produce a new Hunton isopach map and 20 separate cross-sections (two shown herein). These show a broad linear region of absent Hunton. Eustatic sea levels rose throughout the middle and late Devonian, so this large area of eroded Hunton is interpreted as a post-Hunton, pre-Woodford structural uplift. Other Hunton wedges, similar in size and extant to that seismically imaged in this study, were also found in the well data. The karstic collapse of the Viola and subsequent preservation of Hunton rocks occurred on both limbs of the arch.

Schenker Arkasprovides a good example for building a theoretical framework around their case due to theTurkey’s strategic position in the region and the ideal climate for “Fresh” products market.From empirical findings we can conclude that Turkish exports is experiencing a strong growth,in particular “Fresh” products which is growing at a higher rate that the total. Digitization is a concept that has become popular in terms of collections of old heritage-related material such as books, photographs and paper documents. This work is a study of the Swedish composer Allan Pettersson (1911–1980) and his personal archive stored at Section for Manuscripts and Music at Uppsala University Library. My issues are What happens to the archive of the digitized? Will there be a "new" archive of the digitized? What guidelines are Uppsala University Library using for their digitizing and how do they look? What will be the result after digitization? What about copyright and the material? Allan Pettersson's personal papers consist a large collection of sketches of musical notes, newspaper clippings and concert programs. The material is at the time of writing, not digitized except the archive description list. The idea of this work is to show what can happen if a personal archive is digitized. As a theoretical model, Niels D. Lund's Technology Democracy Culture – the essential triangle has been used. Lund shows that there is a connection between cultural content, creative use and access to digital technology and how to make it available. The underlying purpose of the model was to use it to ensure the content to a wider audience based on key words as responsibility, control and representation. Based on this, I analyze how the impact of the digitization process of Allan Pettersson's personal papers. For examine it, the Arka-D project may be suitable as a choice for digitization. This project is a collaboration between Uppsala, Gothenburg and Lund University Libraries, and as a purpose to create a common platform for the digitization of such personal archives. Further aims of the platform is to make heritage-related material available and reach it out to a wider audience at Internet. The final results shows that it is technically possible to digitize it but it is not allowed without special permission. Allan Pettersson's personal archives are protected by copyrights of the law and will be free to publish earliest at 2051.

Böckerna behandlar hederskultur och dess problematik. Syftet med analysen är att undersöka hur hedersproblematik framställs i ungdomslitteratur och hur skönlitteratur kan användas i undervisningen för att upplysa elever om hederskultur och olika levnadsvillkor. Uppsatsen analyserar de roller som framställs i den valda litteraturen ur olika perspektiv. Det finns delade meningar huruvida hedersvåld som begrepp bör användas eller inte och det finns flera teorier om begreppet hederskultur och dess innebörd. Den analyserade litteraturen kopplas samman med Läroplanen för grundskolan, fritidshemmet och förskoleklassen 2011 som tydligt visar att eleverna ska utveckla förståelse för olika människor och kulturer. Analysen visar att det finns ungdomslitteratur som handlar om hedersproblematik men att det främst fokuseras på flickors livssituation samtidigt som pojkars perspektiv ej synliggörs i samma utsträckning. Analysen problematiserar också hur författarna framställer de olika karaktärerna och vad det kan få för konsekvenser.

Kassim Bayatly, metteur en scène, pédagogue, acteur et théoricien du théâtre, propose une vision théâtrale mettant en avant le corps de l’acteur en tant qu’unité où s’associent le physique et le psychique, le corporel et le spirituel. Cette approche, qui n’est pas étrangère à l’anthropologie théâtrale, privilégie le mouvement, les signes, les gestes, c’est-à-dire la phase pré-expressive de l’acteur-performer. Pour ce faire, Bayatly est allé se ressourcer dans le patrimoine arabo-musulman, en particulier dans les rituels soufis, dans les mythes, les chants et la danse orientale. Ce retour au passé a permis de découvrir une grande richesse du vocabulaire définissant le corps (jism, badane, jassad) et une variété de voix et de rythmes (iqa’at), de mélodies (maqamat) et de récits (hakawati), dont la force réside dans la capacité de produire des actes scéniques utilisant les énergies cachées du corps. En même temps, il va puiser dans une nouvelle forme de théâtre, développée en Europe et ailleurs par des praticiens comme Brecht, Stanislavski, Brook, Barba, etc. faisant de l’acteur le noyau central de l’activité scénique, d’où l’importance de la notion de pédagogie, de préparation de l’acteur et de sa capacité à improviser. L’accent est également mis sur le rapport intime entre l’acteur et le spectateur, sur cette communion entre les deux protagonistes qui donne vie au théâtre.Cet emprunt fait à différentes cultures théâtrales explique la création par Bayatly du groupe « Al Arkan » et le nom de « théâtre intermédiaire » choisi par l’auteur. Cette orientation soulève néanmoins quelques interrogations : le théâtre intermédiaire de Bayatly peut-il être envisagé comme une manière de poser une synthèse d’expériences diverses nées du contact de l’Occident et de l’Orient ? Atskirai pridedami darbo priedai.This MA thesis focuses on the possible versions of floors in a Shopping and Entertainment Centre as well as the roof load-bearing constructions of an Ice Arena. Their technical and economic parameters are evaluated and a rational construction option for the further building design is selected. This thesis analyses the reliability of the reinforced concrete arch in the Ice Arena, and the parameters that have the biggest influence on the reliability of the construction are singled out. The parameter analysis of the construction is presented. The thesis ends with concluding remarks. The design features a double tee-type roof slab, a reinforced concrete two-hinged arch with a pre-stressed tie, a column and a pile foundation. The working drawings of the above-mentioned constructions are drafted. The thesis consists of 11 parts: the introduction, the expository letter, the technological-economic part, the parts dealing with the construction design and reliability analysis, the conclusions, the bibliography, etc. The scope of the thesis is as follows: 149 pages of text without annexes, 43 figures, 27 tables, 34 bibliographical sources and 9 A1-size pages of drawings. There are annexes attached to the thesis.

Thesis (M.A. (English))--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Humanities, 2016.This dissertation examines how particular combinations of image and text in sequential art reflect specific social, historical and political contexts. The analysis of how meaning is constructed is done through consideration of three iterations of the Batman superhero character, and argues for an eventual postmodernisation of the character. The first case study presented is the original version of Batman as it debuted in 1939, which naturally established much of the substance from which later depictions would take their cues. The second case study used is the “camp” 1960s TV series starring Adam West, which was influenced by the highly restricted Batman comics under the Comics Code Authority established in 1954. The main case study, and the central focus of this dissertation, is Batman – Arkham Asylum (1989), a graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean, the latest of the three iterations, which represents the eventual disruption of the enforced or constructed harmony evident in the earlier versions of the character into a fracturing and fragmentation both of the world and the self. It is a version of Batman that privileges the interiority and psychological complexity of the character, representing a culmination of the 1980s shift toward a more mature audience with its incorporation of horror, violence and mental turmoil. These three examples are compared and contrasted, showing how each constructs a particular meaning using its own unique combination of image and text. Having established a historicity for the character and having constructed an argument for how Batman as a cultural icon echoes shifts in society, the focus of the dissertation is transferred to a deeper analysis of Arkham and attempts to trace more explicitly its status as a postmodern text by examining its fragmentary nature, its use of intertextuality and how meaning in Arkham is constructed in the mind. Following this, an exploration of the central theme of madness in the graphic novel is provided in order to show how the work both critiques the representation of madness in fiction as well as how the liminal setting of the asylum functions as part of the postmodernisation of Batman by creating a “landscape of madness” where irrationality and the uncanny dominate reality, in contrast to the logical, “left-brain” treatment of Batman which had become common prior to Arkham Asylum. The analysis of the three iterations is shaped by WTJ Mitchell’s theories on imagetext relationships and additionally by the principles of sequential art outlined by Scott McCloud. The postmodern theoretical framework is informed by John Docker’s explorations of fragmentation, intertextuality, inversion and the Carnivalesque. Additionally, the writings of Lillian Feder and Michel Foucault will inform the discussion of madness in Arkham.

This paper mainly discusses the characteristics of chitosan with safe, non-toxic, antibacterial, anti-oxidant, fresh-keeping, medical and other nutritional health functions. It studies the function and application of chitosan and its derivatives in the storage of fruits and vegetables. The effect of film properties on the quality, appearance, nutrients, freshness and weight loss rate of agricultural products. Preparation of various concentrations (6.0%, 3.0%, 1.0%, 0.5%) of chitosan solution, after drying on the epidermis of the saint tomato and lemon, observe and record the weight loss, calculate the weight loss rate, the degree of preservation and the number For 21 days, it was determined which concentration of chitosan membrane was the best for preserving vitamin C content. The experimental data showed that the V. sylvestris was treated with different concentrations of 6.0%, 3.0%, 1.0%, 0.5% chitosan membrane, and the 1.0% concentration of chitosan membrane was the best and the weight loss rate was the lowest. After the lemon was treated with chitosan membrane, its weight loss rate during storage, 3% chitosan membrane treatment concentration can minimize the weight loss rate of lemon fruit. Experiments were carried out to test different concentrations of chitosan film, and a 1.0% concentration of the coating film was found. The vitamin C of the sage tomato was the most able to maintain the vitamin C content in the refrigerator or outdoors. In addition, experimental tests of different concentrations of chitosan film, whether it is stored in the refrigerator or put the outdoor temperature of the lemon, coated with a concentration of 3.0%, the vitamin C of lemon can best maintain the content of vitamin C.

Aclolescence, the transitional phase between childhood and adulthood, is a unique stretch
of time of discovery and experimentation of many risky practices. The present study sought
to fill a research void on adolescent risky behaviours in the North West Province of South
Africa by examining the socio-demographic and environmental correlates of seven sexual behaviours and patterns in th ree substance use behaviours of 1,067 Grade 9 and Grade 11
adolescents from eight high schools in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District of South Africa.
Using chi-square tests, logistic regression and discrete-time hazard modelling techniques, a
select number of socio-demographic and environmental factors were examined to find how
they influence sexual engagement, age at first sex, sexual encounters in three months prior
to tile survey, number of lifetime sexual partners, condom/contraceptive use among
learners, condom refusal, and use of condoms during last sexual encounter and patterns in
cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and marijuana use behaviours. A self-administered
survey questionnaire was used to collect the required data from the study participants.
Overall, about 14 percent of the learners indicated they had ever smoked cigarettes while
about 38 percent also indicated they had ever drunk alcohol. Only 9 percent also indicated
they had ever consumed hashish. Gender, age, place of residence, parental monitoring and
supervision, parent marital status, parent work status and household wealth status were all
found to be associated with cigarette smoking, alcohol and hashish consumption by
learners. Findings showed male and Grade 11 learners reporting less positive sexual
behaviours than female and Grade 9 learners. Gender, grade level, peer sexual influence,
perceptions about sex issues, substance use were t11e chief factors found to influence
sexual behaviours of learners. In particular, while family-related factors were found to have
positive influence on learner sexual behaviours, peers, especially those who exert
psycl1ological control over their friends, seemed to influence the sexual behaviours of their
friends negatively.
The findings from the study have implications for intervention programmes. It should,
specifically, assist policymakers, the North West Department of Education and educators in
developing and implementing specific intervention programmes that seek to discourage the
various risky practices highlighted in this study. In particular, the Department of Education
may consider developing a policy that seeks to educate and raise parents' awareness of the
possible use of substances such as tobacco and hashish by learners and to crave their full
involvement in prevention efforts. A collective participation in the fight against such health risk practices by learners by parents, educators and the Department of Education would go a long way to help minimise the practice among high school learners. Again, a
comprehensive sexuality education programme which encourages sexual abstinence by
learners can be developed and implemented in school settings. Under this programme,
local and national renowned actors, artistes, athletes and musicians can be used as positive
role models for learners as well as directing such personalities to deliver messages on the
dangers of participating in such health risk practices. Lastly, the Department of Education
may consider coming up with a policy that seeks to encourage learner participation in
structured and supervised activities, such as the introduction of new school extracurricular
activities including organising vacation camps for learners, and taking learners through

Effective training is an investment in the human resources of an organisation, with both
immediate and long-term benefits. Researching the effectiveness of training in tourism
organisations in South Africa has not received much attention. The purpose of this quantitative study was to evaluate the perceived effectiveness of training programmes attended by employees located at the head office of the North West Parks and Tourism Board in South Africa. The levels of perceived training effectiveness has been proxied by the levels of overall satisfaction with training programmes participated by employees. The study also emphasized the importance of training as an important human resource development which is the present clay competitive model, Obsolescence among employees and the need to cope with the technological, organisational and social changes make continuous learning and updating of skills indispensable at the North West Parks and Tourism Board, in particular, and other organisation, in general.
To address the stated study objectives, employees located at the head office of the North West Parks and Tourism Board received and completed a quantitative survey questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. First and foremost, alpha analysis was used in order to judge the reliability of the data and the statistical significance of the measures of effectiveness. The results showed a high level of reliability in the data. Further results demonstrated that most employees found the training programmes they have attended to be relevant to their jobs, the trainers had been competent, training programmes participated have been interesting, training programmes participated have generally been useful, specific skills were learnt from participating in those training programmes, by participating in those training programmes their job performance has improved, they have been able to practise what they gained from participating in those training programmes, and employees f elt more effective in doing their job after participating in those training programmes.
Chi-square tests were also carried out in order to analyze whether there is any association between the perceived levels of effectiveness of training programmes and some important constructs- personal elements, training environment, work environment, and perceived values and derived benefits of training. The results from analyzing the background elements did not reveal any associations with the overall levels of satisfaction with training programmes respondents have participated, which proxies the levels of effectiveness of training programmes participated by respondents. Only two physical comfort items of training environment were found to has significant relationship with the effectiveness of training programmes- the level of accessibility of training facilities at training centres and that the level of pleasantness of physical environment during training sessions. None of the training centre
control items was found any significant association with the effectiveness of training
programmes while none of the three items of work environment was also found to have a significant association with the effectiveness of training programmes.
The results also showed no significant relationship between the level of effectiveness of
training programmes attended and the level of agreement to the statement that respondents' supervisors are never interested to know what their staff learn at training and the level of effectiveness of training programmes attended, the level of agreement to the statement that supervisors encouraged them to participate in training programmes, and the level of agreement to the statement that resources are always provided so they could apply and practise what they learn. Of the nine items on the perceived values and derived benefits of training, only two were found to have significant associations with the effectiveness of training programmes - the level of improvement respondents have had after participating in training programmes and the ability to practise on the job those skills learned from participating in training programmes.Thesis (MBA) North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2012
