Abstract:
Taking inspiration from some analytical paths in a recent book by Agop Manoukian—Presenza Armena in Italia. 1915-2000, Milano, Guerini e Associati, 2014)—the author traces some significant moments of the Armenian diaspora in Italy during the 20th century including its complex relations with socio-political Italy, in context with Middle Eastern and international relations, which during the World Wars also involves the United States. In particular, the author considers the relations of the Italian Armenian diaspora with the kingdom of Italy in the first instance and then with the fascist regime, during the period when racial laws involved the small Armenian community. Then the author focuses on the new realities of Republican Italy and the Socialist Republic of Armenia and the debate that developed during the second half of last century, between those who believed it possible to preserve the Armenian identity and those in the diaspora who supported a political initiative in favour of the re-conquest of Armenia’s historic lands. Particular attention is reserved for the genocide of 1915 and the new entity of the Republic of Armenia.

Aimi, Chiara <1984&gt. "La versione armena del libro V delle Leggi di Platone: edizione critica con commento e note al testo." Doctoral thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2016. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/7362/.

Full text
Abstract:
The present work offers a critical, annotated edition of the Armenian version of Plato’s Laws, Book V. The dialogue is extant in a sole, late witness (Biblioteca dei PP. Mechitaristi di San Lazzaro, ms 1123) together with Timaeus, Minos, Euthyphron, Apology. Despite the interest they generated among scholars, a critical edition is not available yet: the Mekhitarist editions (1877 and 1890) are not a reliable source. A codicological and palaeographical description of the codex unicus is given here for the first time, offering clues for a more accurate dating. A short excerptum of Timaeus, found in a manuscript connected to the University of Glajor (XIII - XIV c.), thus representing the most ancient witness of Plato’s translation, is here edited and collated with V 1123. The version of Laws, Book V is studied in close comparison with Parisinus graecus 1807 and Vaticanus graecus 1, in order to define its relation with the two witnesses. In this respect, direct dependence is excluded in both cases, although they both share some errors with the version; we have found instead significant agreements with the "Book of the Patriarch" quoted in the margins of the second. The translation, although strongly Hellenizing, is not slavish: grecisms coexist alongside classical Armenian structures, and sometimes do not correspond to any equivalent expression in the source text. The translator shows a good understanding of Plato’s text: this is particularly clear in the rendering of technical terms. Some peculiar choices may be explained with reference to the Greek exegetical tradition. The critical text reproduces the codex unicus, rectifying only obvious errors of the Armenian textual transmission. The apparatus records divergences between the manuscript and the editio princeps, conjectures from previous scholars and different readings of the greek witnesses; comments on single passages are given in the footnotes.

Abstract:
This dissertation deals with the particularities of the process of mobilization for the work of Armenian immigration in the District of Presidente Altino, located in the municipality of Osasco, in relation to the capital of São Paulo. This process has as a historical reference for mobilization the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire during World War I (1914-1918), interpreted here using the concept of general mobilization (Gaudemar, 1981), historical moment in which all the efforts are directed to the production, requiring constant war to the accumulation of capital. We have tried to problematize the historical unfoldings of the capitalist social relationship that have been transforming the meanings of capital accumulation throughout the twentieth century, as well as the dynamics of the personifications resulting therefrom reaching the contemporary capitalism based on the fictional reproduction of value. Starting from the historical research of mobilization trajectories allied to observations made in field research. Travels were made to Argentina, Uruguay in order to present the perceptible contradictions between the Armenian identity of these visited localities and the identity observed during the travel to Armenia.

Full text
Abstract:
The main objective of this thesis is to show that the thirty melodies ascribed to the ashoogh Sayat Nova are melodically and rhythmically homogeneous, and that they bear similarity to both Armenian folk and sacred melodies. Since very little has been written on this topic in Occidental languages, it has been necessary to provide (1) a descriptive account of the ancient Armenian music; namely, vibassan, koosan, folk and sacred traditions; (2) a presentation of ashoogh poetic forms, rhyming schemes, and accentuation patterns, which are summarized for the first time in a chart with corresponding sources; (3) a chapter on Armenian tzayns as a background to the melodic analysis and codifications of Sayat Nova's melodies, which is contrary to the accepted practice of codifying these melodies with Greek modal names.
Professor Nigoghos Tahmizian's analysis of Sayat Nova melodies was used as a starting point. Furthermore, through analysis based primarily on available secondary sources, certain conclusions have been obtained: such as, the unity of rhythm/meter with language conventions, presence of specific melodic patterns, cadential endings, intervallic patterns and ranges in Sayat Nova melodies, as characterised by individual tzayn codifications. Further research is suggested to clarify codification of poetic forms, tzayn designations, and specifically, to solidify accentuation conventions of the Armenian language and of its dialects.

Abstract:

This is a degree project performed at Halmstad University in Sweden on the subject carpet of

reinforcement. This project is developed in association with Celsa Steel Service in Halmstad.

The purpose of this report is to investigate how much time that can be saved if carpet of

reinforcement is used instead of the traditional way to work with reinforcement and see

what kind of parameters that is important between the choices. We are also going to see

how this product affects the situation for reinforcement workers from an ergonomic point of

view.

Carpet of reinforcement is made by straight reinforcement’s bars that are welded together

with steel bands. These rolls are made at a factory with a machine that welds together the

bars in determined centre distance, with desired dimensions after the construction

engineers’ blueprints. The big advantage is that the work at the construction site becomes

much easier. Also the number of reinforcement workers and the total time of the project

can be reduced. All this together saves money.

The soft parameters like work environment are also affected in a good way. The rolls are

heavy and have to be lifted with a construction crane which saves the reinforcement iron

workers body. The traditional work with reinforcement involves a lot of heavy lifting and

trying work positions for the workers. Therefore is it fairly usual with wear injuries in the

trade. We think that carpets of reinforcement may reduce the amount of wear injuries. Most

of the workers that we interviewed seem to like the product.

There are two different products that Celsa Steel Service provides the trade with. Bamtec is

the oldest of these products and also the most common and appreciated. In connection with

building of bridges it is forbidden to weld together the reinforcement because of the risk of

fatique fractares in welded zones. Because of this, Bamtec can not be used in bridges. For

use in bridges a new product called SpinMaster, without welding, has been developed.

Carpet of reinforcement works best at large simple foundation slabs but can also be used in

walls.

Abstract:
HIMA! / NOW! - translation from Armenian In light of recent and ongoing protests, demonstrations and riots in Ukraine, Egypt, Israel or Armenia, some actual questions arise such as how is the built environment used as an area of protest, how it is chosen as a focal point or path for resistance, what are the common characteristics of revolutionary spaces and how the environment effects on success. Lack of democracy from the government and in everyday life of Armenia society, total corruption and feeling of impunity oligarchy, the government and most of governmental institutions, weak economic growth accompanied by alarming number of emigration as well as successful scenarios in neighboring Georgia and Ukraine, force to predict a inescapable eruption of protests Armenia in near future. History shows that protests and civil disobedience are inevitable and necessary expressions of dissent in any democratic nation and country. However there are different passive tools to improve democratic institutions in the society and country in general such as public forums, open discussions and debates, freedom of speech and media etc. With this project I want to create a great Park with generous program embracing main democratic principles as a Public Space and Forum for everyone in capital of Armenia, Yerevan, BUT in case of nascent civil resistance the Park will become a space as a tool with urban inventory that people can use, manipulate, claim in order to defend their values and save own life's. This will be a Playground/Fortress for Democracy !

Abstract:
Exploration of Armenian art began in the 19th century with French, Russian, German, Finnish, Austrian and Armenian art historians, and continued into the 20th century primarily with Russian, Armenian, Ukrainian, American and Italian scholars, who brought to the attention of a large public – not only of academics –, the artistic heritage of a territory that goes beyond the borders of present-day Armenia and encompasses an area known as Subcaucasia, a term used to indicate the regions from the South Caucasus to Anatolia, Iran and Upper Mesopotamia. Interest in Armenian art, from illuminated manuscripts to khachkars and architecture, has grown in the last twenty years, a fact that provided the knowledge of these works of art with a global dimension. The book illustrates the characteristics, themes and methods of the various research paths, sprouting from different historiographical traditions. In other words, the volume intends to trace a map capable of orientating the reader among the artistic and cultural phenomena of this complex territory, thus offering different keys to understanding them and also useful insights for future scientific research.

Full text
Abstract:
Turkish-Armenian border has been closed due to Nagorno-Karabagh question since 1993. The fact that the 20% of Azerbaijan territory is under Armenian invasion has prevented investigation of potential economic effects of Turkish-Armenian border on related parties so far from being a research agenda. In this study a descriptive approach is adopted since statistical data in hand is inappropriate for an econometric investigation. Long run advantages that an open border brings to Turkey are alternative highway, railway and pipeline routes to Caspian Sea basin and Central Asia while short run advantages are economic gains to Turkish border provinces and port cities connected with Armenia. The long run and short run benefits are vital for Armenia whose economy is agrarian, dependant heavily on foreign trade and foreign aids, experienced high transportation costs, unstable, poor and loosing population although the population data does not reflect the real situation. For Armenia, an open border means a direct territorial connection to European Union (EU), new employment opportunities, up to 23% fall in transportation costs, trans-border pipeline benefits, a flourished foreign trade, and increasing material well being. Consequently the opening of Turkish-Armenian border is strongly advised for it is beneficial to the related parties under the assumption that a resolution on Azeri-Armenian conflicts is reached

Abstract:
This paper explores the core challenges and opportunities of the Europeanization processes taking place in Belarus and Armenia. It argues that despite the constraining effects of “competing governance provider” Russia, the interests, perceptions, and preferences of the domestic elites are critical to the implementation of the EU policies in Belarus and Armenia. Thus, it offers a more dynamic structure- agency interplay approach to account for the dynamics of Europeanization in the EU-Russia contested neighbourhood. The article enquires into integration without membership dynamics between the EU and Eastern neighbours in the light of the Russian-dominated Eurasian integration.
