The aim of this article is to explore teaching within symmetrical and asymmetrical classrooms and how teaching creates meaning for the learners in a multilingual school. The study, described in this article, has a socio-cultural theoretical standpoint with focus on language and literacy teaching. Effects of oligochitosan (OCH) on postharvest rot caused by Alternaria alternata in Chinese jujube (Zizyphus jujuba Mill. cv. Dongzao) fruit were investigated. An in vitro test indicated that mycelial growth of A. alternata was strongly suppressed by OCH at 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, or 20 g/liter. The half-inhibition concentration of OCH against this fungus was 0.76 and 1.69 g/liter on days 4 and 6 of incubation, respectively. &lt;p&gt;Supplements of potassium and bentonite are used to reduce absorption and increase excretion of radiocesium in reindeer. In a feeding experiment with 6 reindeer calves the effects of these supplements on water consumption and water excretion were measured. The experiment was made in three separate parts. During the first part (period I) the reindeer were fed pellets. Two reindeer god not supplements, two got 15 g K/day and two got 15 g K and 80 g bentonite/day. Supplements of K about doubled both the consumption of water and the excretion of urine. Bentonite gave no additional effect.

Three groups of once-calved (OCH) heifers were slaughtered following the weaning of their calves at 3 (OCH3, n = 32), 5 (OCH5, n = 33) and 7 (OCH7, n = 31) months postcalving. A fourth group of heifers was fed a silage/grain diet and slaughtered at 15 mo of age (C, n = 32). Alternate sides of each carcass were electrically stimulated (ES) at 475 volts for 1 min (20 pulses m−1, 60 Hz) at 45 min post-stunning. Larger ring and alkyl-substituted enones are also epoxidized with high ee. Three- and four-membered rings are versatile intermediates for further transformation. Tsutomu Katsuki of Kyushu University developed (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2008, 47, 2450) an elegant Al(salalen) catalyst for the enantioselective Simmons-Smith cyclopropanation of allylic alcohols such as 3. Kazuaki Ishihara of Nagoya University found (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2007, 129, 8930) chiral amine salts that effected enantioselective 2+2 cycloaddition of α-acyloxyacroleins such as 5 to alkenes to give the cyclobutane 7 with high enantio- and diastereocontrol. Gideon Grogan of the University of York overexpressed (Adv. Synth. Cat. 2008, 349, 916) the enzyme 6-oxocamphor hydrolase in E. coli . The 6-OCH so prepared converted prochiral diketones such as 8 to the cyclopentane 9 in high ee. Richard P.
