Abstract:
In this paper it is argued that the students who manifest talent in design are further along the developmental continuum than their age mates. But advanced development is not necessarily achieved in all aspects of the complex “design”. A battery of tests was developed to assess its most significant components to enable the art teacher to identify the strengths and weaknesses of able students so that more appropriate guidance could be given. The role of the family in nurturing talent in design is also considered.

Abstract:
The cultivation of design thinking ability among students majoring in art and design in vocational colleges is related to the implementation of national innovation and development strategies and the cultivation of high-skilled talent. This study focuses on the problems of lagging educational concepts, weak cultural foundations, and insufficient artistic literacy in the cultivation of creative thinking among students majoring in art and design in vocational colleges. This study explores effective ways to enhance the design thinking ability of students majoring in art and design in vocational colleges. Research has shown that current vocational art and design education generally suffers from problems such as emphasizing skills over creativity, theory over practice, and a lack of systematic training in innovative thinking. This results in students lacking independent innovation ability and the ability to solve practical design problems, leading to insufficient employment competitiveness for graduates. This study focuses on students majoring in art and design in vocational colleges and conducts an in-depth analysis of the factors that affect the cultivation of design thinking among students majoring in art and design in vocational colleges. The research results indicate that improving the design thinking ability of art and design majors in vocational colleges requires the following steps. First, it is necessary to update educational concepts; integrate design thinking into various aspects of teaching; change the traditional exam-oriented education model; and focus on cultivating students' critical thinking, systematic thinking, and innovative thinking. Second, it is necessary to strengthen the teaching of basic courses, consolidate students' professional foundation, cultivate their aesthetic ability and artistic cultivation, and lay a solid foundation for the cultivation of design thinking. Again, innovative teaching methods, such as project-based learning, case-based teaching, and studio teaching, are needed to stimulate students' interest in learning and improve their learning enthusiasm. At the same time, practical teaching should be strengthened to increase students' opportunities to participate in practical projects, allowing them to learn and enhance their design thinking abilities through practice. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen school enterprise cooperation, establish an integrated teaching model of industry university research, provide more internship and employment opportunities for students, and cultivate their professional qualities and innovation abilities. Finally, it is necessary to create a good campus cultural atmosphere, encourage students to actively participate in innovation and entrepreneurship activities, and cultivate their innovative spirit and entrepreneurial ability.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on Chinese ‘ethnic’ Minzu art education for university undergraduate students, specializing in various subfields of visual arts. Based on data collected during a course on Minzu visual design, analysed visually and discursively, the paper intersects the notions of Minzu (in reference to the 56 official Minzu groups composing Chinese Mainland) and interculturality (understood here as processes of change when people meet) in art education. In the course, groups of art students cooperate on a visual design project at a top Minzu university in China, whereby they need to negotiate artistic creations based on one Minzu group. The interest is on the artistic and visual aspects of their creations. The results highlight a form of curiosity for the ‘other’ anthropologically and artistically that does not seem to be satisfied. As such the students appear to be disappointed by the end products, having found what some refer to as merely superficial Minzu design elements and having had to make changes to them to fit the purpose of the course project. However, interculturality as change in art does happen throughout the course, especially when the students mixed some elements from different Minzu groups in their design. Recommendations for global arts education, from an intercultural perspective, are drawn.

Explicit theories are constructed by experts based on the findings of empirical studies. Implicit theories, on the other hand, are generated from assumptions and ideas held by non-experts. The purpose of the current study was to examine Chinese art and design undergraduates’ perceptions of creativity. The implicit theories of this concept that are held by art and design students are perhaps disproportionately important, in that they might inform creative work in the real world. The current study was a qualitative survey and utilized convenience sampling to recruit 95 participants, all third-year college students in art and design in Macau. The current study was a qualitative survey, distributed online, and consisting of demographic questions and a single open-ended question: “When you hear the word ‘creativity’, what words come into your mind? We found that the majority of the most popular responses seemed to reflect the creativity literature, with new, unique, surprise, and interesting. In addition, among these four attributes, female students were significantly more concerned that creativity should have new and interesting components than their male counterparts did.

Access to relevant information is crucial for Art and Design students to meet their information needs and achieve their educational goals. This paper explores the information-seeking strategies used by Art and Design students in diplomaawarding institutions in Uganda, and the challenges they encounter when seeking information to meet their information needs. This is part of a doctoral study that investigated the information-seeking behaviour of Art and Design students in diploma-awarding institutions in Uganda. The study population comprised Art and Design students in the four Art and Design institutions, library heads in the same institutions, and directors at the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). Data was collected using questionnaire, interview and observation methods. Data was collected from February to August 2022. The study revealed that Art and Design students use various information-seeking strategies to locate and access information. Browsing online images, photographing activities in the environment, recording videos of activities in the environment, and consulting Art and Design librarians were the most used. The least used strategies included browsing art and design collections on library shelves, using keywords, and using Boolean operators. The study found that Art and Design students encountered varied challenges when seeking information. The key challenges were lack of Internet at the institutions, inadequate and outdated information materials in the library, slow Internet, high cost of Internet data, and lack or inadequate knowledge to evaluate the quality of information on the Internet. The key recommendations included the need for Art and Design institutions to invest heavily in ICT infrastructure, including Internet connectivity, and also to develop information literacy courses for the students; the need for the NCHE prioritise monitoring of the study institutions to ensure compliance with library standards; and the need for the Government of Uganda zero-rate the Internet in the study institutions.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between secondary school students' visual creativity in art and their attitudes towards graphic design. The relational research model, one of the quantitative research designs, was used in the study. Two different data collection tools were used to obtain data. In the study, "visual creativity scale in art" and "attitude scale towards graphic design" were used to examine the relationship between the two variables. The study group consists of 248 students studying Visual Arts in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The data obtained in the study are presented in line with the research problem. When the findings were examined, it was seen that secondary school students' visual creativity in art and their attitudes towards graphic design were at a moderate level. While the participants' visual creativity in art and their attitudes towards graphic design did not differ according to gender and school type, significant differences were found according to grade level. On the other hand, it was determined that there was a positive, high-level relationship between the visual creativity of secondary school students in art and their attitudes towards graphic design, and this relationship was at a significant level. In order to determine the predictive level of this relationship, a regression analysis was performed by assigning visual creativity in art as an independent variable and attitudes towards graphic design as the dependent variable. As a result, it was found that the level of visual creativity in art significantly predicted attitudes towards graphic design.

Abstract:
Landscape Architecture is defined as a blend of art and science. However, it has been acknowledged that configuration of design forms, which is related to spatial composition and element forms is the most challenging design aspect that the students face in learning the design process in the basic design course. This is not the case for the scientific aspects where students can establish their ability and confidence in learning landscape technical issues and functional requirements. This paper discusses the outcomes of the first Landscape Architecture Design Studio at the Department of Landscape Architecture at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU), which represents the first foundation stone for Landscape Architecture design education. The Landscape Architecture Studio has examined the role of creative practice in art plays in the landscape architecture design process in the light of Zangwill’s Aesthetic Creation Theory (ACT), and following the Form-Based Design (FBD) approach process defined by Stefano Fillipi. In this studio, students were asked to design a private garden related to, hypothetically, an artist’s family house. Based on the FBD approach, each student chose a specific modern artist, supposedly owning the garden house, and studied his artistic principles of forms, patterns, colours and composition, and used them as an inspiration for their own art paintings. The students’ art pieces acted as the basis for conceptualising their design preliminary plans and 3D images. As a result of this studio, students showed a great interest in the studio artistic approach, and demonstrated a significant ability to translate the artistic principles and qualities existing in creative painting successfully into their landscape architecture design. At the end of the teaching process, a reflective student survey feedback from instructors indicated that students had learned about the aesthetic creative approach and were able to understand the role non-aesthetic properties played into manifesting the design aesthetic quality.

Abstract:
Designer or art toys are unique designs produced in limited quantities using a specific mold. They are then painted with various stories and concepts, showcasing their artistic originality. These toys are typically developed for collection purposes. These toys are mainly featured in art galleries, museums, and design fairs. These toys are evaluated as art objects and offer an important form of expression that reflects their period’s cultural meanings and social dynamics. This study uses Anatolian motifs to transfer cultural values to students through designer toys. In this context, it is planned to contribute to students’ learning of cultural values and help them create their artistic creations. Students are given examples of motifs, characters, phenomena, and events containing cultural values and are asked to produce designer toys that reflect contemporary designs. The study also aims to examine existing examples in this field, identify problems, and develop suggestions. The reinterpretation and transfer of designer toys as a form of expression through cultural motifs are important for preserving these values. The limited number of studies on using traditional Anatolian motifs in designer toys emphasizes the significance of this topic. In this research, the literature review method was adopted. In the data collection process, the observation method, one of the qualitative research techniques, and the pretest-posttest method, one of the quantitative research techniques, were applied. Between the two tests, an 8-hour training was provided to the students, and they were asked to apply what they had learned. Abstract:
This paper explores the potential of Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach in a multidisciplinary art classroom involving STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education. The PBL approach involves a dynamic classroom approach, which emphasises on long-term learning, interdisciplinary and student-centred art activities. This implementation would benefit the teaching strategies in art projects; helping students understand lessons, improving communication and soft skills, as well as enhancing leadership skills and creativity. However, there are some concerns related to the PBL approach: i) difficulties in finding appropriate teaching strategies, ii) choosing suitable projects, iii) selecting relevant measurement tools or assessing rubrics, and iv) developing learning content to suit the objective and the main purpose of the art curriculum. In identifying this approach’s potential, a study was carried out involving two art teachers in their respective classrooms. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis of their teaching strategies, which included three main phases of PBL implementation in creating art projects. The findings suggest that the PBL pedagogical design has the ability to improve teaching strategies and with potential to replace a traditional, teacher-led art classroom. The approach is effective in guiding teachers to manoeuvre an authentic art lesson while benefiting the students through emphasis on the artistic process of creating a STEAM project, while focusing on culminating the necessary art content through active collaboration, exploration of real-world challenges and curricular activities’ problem-solving. However, a number of challenges were identified, such as curriculum demand, learning content, teachers’ and students’ attitude, and access to instruments. Hence, a number of suggestions and recommendations are proposed to help resolve the challenges. The implications of the study on arts curriculum, school systems and other higher institutions are also discussed.

Abstract:
Contemporary art needs not only artists, but also intermediate persons, who can help to percept and interpret things of art, as philosophers A. Danto, J. Rancier in the second part of the XX century asserted. An intermediary is necessary for both the author and the viewer. The article pays attention to such participatory museum methods: free discussion (A. Hausen, P. Yenawine, N. V. Ievleva and M. V. Potapova), TABULA method (O. Ward) and art mediation. The authors of the article share their experience of using these participatory methods with students. V. V. Kandinsky‘s work «Gray Oval» was the material for discussion. The experience demonstrated a deepening in the understanding of the work of art as well as the activation of creative thinking among design students.

Abstract:
During the present era of globalization, the discernible trend of cultural diversification has come to the forefront. This research aims to study the adaptation of both teaching methods and instructional content to align with the demands of contemporary multicultural advancement. The proposition involves a shift away from teacher-centric instruction towards a student-centered approach, thereby accentuating the students' active role and endorsing an approach that places students at the core of learning. Through the avenue of multicultural art design education, students are allowed to intimately engage with the innate allure of diverse artistic expressions. By interweaving the quintessence of varied cultures into the pedagogical process, a broader array of artistic forms is presented for students' exploration. Through the scrutiny and exploration of artworks originating from distinct cultural milieus, students are immersed in disparate cultural values and modern characteristics, fostering expanded cognitive horizons, and incubating an inventive mentality during the process of learning. Within the framework of multicultural advancement, the educational paradigm must synchronize with contemporary currents. In addition to knowledge dissemination, art design education must concurrently fulfil its fundamental role in nurturing students' robust character and nurturing inventive awareness.

Abstract:
BackgroundWith the increasing social employment pressure, the psychological pressure of college students in their daily study and life is also increasing. Because students’ physical and mental growth is not sound, it is difficult for them to carry out targeted self-intervention and adjustment against psychological pressure, which leads to long-term accumulation of negative psychology and eventually forms depressive symptoms. In recent years, the number of depression patients in colleges and universities has been increasing. It is necessary to form a daily treatment strategy system that is in line with students’ psychological characteristics.Subjects and Methods90 students diagnosed with depression were selected and divided into three groups. The first group was a single drug intervention group, which only used the common form of depression drug intervention. The second group was a single art design appreciation intervention, which used professional art design and appreciation psychological intervention strategies to intervene students’ depression. The third group is the design appreciation and drug combined intervention group. The students in this group participated in professional art design and appreciation psychological intervention while taking antidepressant drug treatment. The study collected the depression psychological status of the three groups of patients before and after treatment, and used the collected data for quantitative analysis.ResultsThe research results showed that before the start of treatment, the Self-Rating Depression (SDS) scores of the three groups of students with depression were 63.21 points in the single drug intervention group, 64.32 points in the single art design appreciation intervention group and 63.54 points in the art design appreciation and drug combined intervention group. It showed that the levels of depression symptoms of the three groups of students before the intervention were similar. After intervention, the SDS score of the single drug intervention group decreased to 45.22 points, the SDS score of the single art design appreciation intervention group decreased to 46.51 points, and the SDS score of art design appreciation and drug combined intervention decreased to 40.13 points. It can be seen that the intervention effect of art design appreciation and drug intervention is the most obvious. Compared with the other two methods, this method is more conducive to the depression intervention for students.ConclusionsFrom the comparison of the patients’ condition in the single drug intervention group, the single art design appreciation intervention group, and the art design appreciation and drug combination intervention group before and after the intervention, it can be seen that the art design appreciation and drug combination intervention strategy designed by the research is more conducive to forming a better intervention effect in the student group, helping them to establish a psychological reaction mechanism in life with antidepressant drugs and reduce the severity of self-depression.Table 1.Group intervention effectGroupNumber of group membersSDS score before treatmentSDS score after treatmentSingle drug intervention3063.2145.22Single art design appreciation intervention3064.3246.51Art design appreciation and drug joint intervention3063.5440.13

Abstract:
The existence of the relationship between fashion and art dates back to old times. The aim of Worth and Poiret with the arising of haute couture in 19th century was the acceptance of fashion designers as artists. Even though this situation has never realized completely, many designers continued designing clothing with the sense of art and still do. The subject that unites design and art on the common ground is that there is an effort of creating an esthetical product at the end of both activities. In this direction, art lessons have always been a part of design education. As in every design field, in fashion design field art lessons take place in the curriculum. Art provides the inspiration for the designers; students and other designers design clothing by being influenced by the art. Thus, art becomes an eternal research field for designers, art literacy comes into prominence in this respect. The aim of this research is to discuss the relationship of art and fashion within its historical development and reveal the art literacy of the students of the department of fashion design. This study aims to explore the impact of integrating traditional arts and crafts elements with modern art design teaching on students’ attention deficit, and provide corresponding teaching strategies.Subjects and Methods This study adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, selecting 300 students from three different art colleges as the research subjects. These students were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 150 students in each group. The experimental group was taught the integration of traditional arts and crafts elements with modern art design, while the control group was taught conventional modern art design. During the process, the SNAP-IV-18 scale was used to evaluate the status of students before and after the intervention. Statistics on data were performed by using SPSS24.0 software.ResultsThe research results show that the experimental group of students showed significant improvements in attention concentration, sustained attention, and attention transfer. At the same time, they also scored high in creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.ConclusionsResearch has shown that the integration of traditional arts and crafts elements with modern art design in teaching from the perspective of educational psychology can help alleviate students’ attention deficits, and improve their creativity and critical thinking abilities.

Abstract:
This research aims to examine secondary and higher secondary students' perceptions about career options related to Art & Design studies. A comparative study approach is conducted between the secondary and higher secondary students who opted for Art & Design and the prospective students of Art & Design. Each data set includes 200 respondents from both types of students, making a data set of 400 respondents. Based on constructionism and symbolic, philosophical assumptions, quantitative research methodology has been induced to complete this research. The data is gathered through structured telephonic interviews to analyze the responses. For this research, a checklist was designed that included the same type of questions from both types of students. The results show that the students, specifically in the context of Pakistan, look forward to being employed in a lavish environment through seeking professional degrees apart from whether the field they are choosing would win their interest. This study recommends researching the institutes where Art & design is not a part of the educational programs to transmit the attention of authorities towards it.
