This special issue explores the concept of debt and its ramifications in contemporary landscapes with the intention of altering the themes and terms of a debate imposed by economistic discourse. Briefly going through the crucial issues raised by the social practice of debt: time and creation – unveils that the languages of contemporary archaeology (Plantzos), sociology (Bissonnette), anthropology (Krige), art history (Hadjinicolaou), literary theory (Boletsi and Gourgouris), are ways of allowing for an emancipatory take on the issue of debt.

Abstract This essay investigates the status of “reification” in the work of Marcel Broodthaers, particularly in the 1971 “Section Financière” of his Musée d'Art Moderne, Départment des Aigles. It will pose finance and debt as social forms through which Broodthaers both experienced reification concretely and attempted to register its forming pressure upon the artwork's conditions of possibility. The article argues that it was Broodthaers's understanding of reification that allowed him, at a crux in the history of finance represented by the end of the Bretton Woods agreement in 1971, to posit ar

Abstract:
This paper introduces a concrete definition of the concept of measure in human interaction, highlighting its parallels with the principles of moderation and aesthetic balance—the latter traditionally symbolized by the golden ratio in art and architecture. By applying this definition to socioeconomic behavior, the paper proposes a model to help prevent or mitigate future debt crises. To this end, the model aligns with the IMF’s balance sheet approach for assessing the net worth of economic sectors or national economies. Adopting a relativist perspective in this context, the
