This paper explores the developments and trends in higher education from a pedagogical perspective (specifically, multidisciplinary curricula) and research perspective (the interdisciplinary approach), and traces them from a last resort option to their recognition as a legitimate development with added value. The paper focuses on a case study that integrates two disciplines, art and literature, based on the poem by the Israeli poet Rachel entitled My Book of Poems and the painting The Scream by Norwegian artist Eduard Munch. Abstract:
The purpose of this dissertation is to develop explanatory theory for the learning processes facilitated by art-‐based methods in management education (ABMs). Such theory is important because managerial educators increasingly use ABMs, and without a well-‐developed theory it may be difficult to realise these methods’ full potential. Current research on ABMs uses theories from other fields but generally sees ABMs as methods for making important information available for reflection, e.g. information about unconscious assumptions, aesthetic experience, or non-‐propositional or tacit knowledge.

This study used picture books as the catalyst to create an art-literature curriculum.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter focuses on creative coding practices within a university-level art education context. Drawing from earlier literature and combining it with current research, the chapter takes a feminist approach to creative coding and examines the importance and possibilities of different code-related art educational practice in the post-digital world(ing)s. The chapter discusses how post-digital takes place and uses compost as a metaphor to look at post-digital art education practices. More specifically, it introduces three examples from courses taught at Aalto University that together form the digital compost: humus, care, and waste. The chapter closes with the discussion on further feminist approaches within post-digital within art education.

Abstract:
AbstractCitizen science is a promising field for educational practices and research. However, it is also highly heterogeneous, and learning happens in diverse ways, according to project tasks and participants’ activities. Therefore, we adopt a sociocultural view of learning, in which understanding learning requires a close analysis of the situation created both by the project tasks and the dynamics of engagement of the participants (volunteers, scientists, and others). To tackle the complexity of the field, this chapter maps learning in citizen science into six territories, according to where learning might take place: formal education (schools and universities); out-of-school education (science and nature clubs, summer camps, outdoor education, etc.); local and global communities (neighbourhood associations, activist associations, online communities, etc.); families; museums (science museums, art museums, zoos, and botanic gardens); and online citizen science. For each territory, we present key findings from the literature. The chapter also introduces our six personal journeys into the field of learning and citizen science, displaying their variety and the common lessons, challenges, and opportunities. Finally, we present four key tensions arising from citizen science projects in educational settings and look at training different stakeholders as a strategy to overcome some of these tensions.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter discusses lessons learned engaging my graduate students in education policy analysis at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in designing climate change education curricula in partnership with educational institutions around the world. Studying those programs developed by my students, I draw out seven cross-cutting themes about what such an approach yields for students, for the educational institutions they partnered with and for my own institution, while drawing parallels between those curricula and the graduate course in comparative education policy analysis in which these curricula were developed. In addressing those themes the chapter revisits some of the central arguments presented in the introductory chapter about the urgency and the challenges of enhancing the effectiveness of climate change education, and some of the key conclusions of critical reviews of the literature on education and climate change about the limitation of existing approaches to the subject. Those themes are: Educating students to address climate change is about engaging them in active problem solving, not contemplation. While learning from doing is valuable, to advance the field of climate change education, it is necessary to conceptualize and theorize practice. The need to think broadly about learning outcomes in climate change education The power of contextually situated learning A Signature project-based pedagogy to Change Climate through Education Augmenting the capacity for climate change education among teachers and schools The limitations of infusing climate change education in existing courses The chapter concludes examining some blind spots in the climate change curricula presented in the book and drawing parallels between the education response to the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020 and the education response to Climate Change.

Abstract:
Diving into a book and losing yourself in a world peopled by your imagination is a joy that lovers of literature have reveled in for as long as there have been stories. Whether people seek to be excited, terrified, challenged, entertained, or informed, it begins with the pleasure of reading a book. Learning to read is a cornerstone of educational achievement. How to encourage a passion for reading so children want to engage is poorly understood. The role parents play and how support is offered to parents to ensure inclusive, respectful, and responsive strategies that support all families requires investigation. The “read to your child every night” call is no longer enough. Teachers need the support of parents to look to innovative solutions. This chapter investigates how teachers can support parents by asking five diverse and geographically remote parents what works for them.

Next, the author presents her virtual world curriculum and pedagogy as well as students’ work examples and their responses to the new art and learning media from her Art Café@Second Life research project. This chapter sets out specific principles for literature in foreign language didactics, specifically, in Higher Education. Three related areas are combined: didactics, literature, and language. The state of the art is presented from the General Didactics to the Foreign Language Didactics. Then, research turns to the scope of EHEA. The objectives of this chapter are mainly two. On the hand, it analyses the evolution in the state of the art of literature in foreign language didactics, and, on the other, it compiles principles to create a working method that brings students closer to their future profession and prepares them as competent professionals.

Abstract:
This chapter examines some of the changes in views about art, criticism of art works, and art-related teaching objectives, as they evolve with the developments in the new media art, works created through the Web, social networking, art created on portable devices, as well as information technologies. First, this chapter examines the changing meaning of the aesthetics notion in mathematics, science, information art, and information technology, as well as changes in the views about instruction in art criticism. Examination of these approaches is then contrasted with the models adopted in education. The four-part model used in instructional design, based on audience, outcome, environment, and usability, is adapted to suit the needs of art criticism. Materials based on a literature review provide the rationale for a four-part model to facilitate art critique. The next part is about the changing dimensions of criticism in the new media art and product design in respect to the product semantics analysis.
