Depuis la première publication du « Roi-Grenouille ou Henri-de-Fer » dans les « Kinder- und Hausmärchen » du 19e siècle, on se heurte à l’aspect érotique du conte, à commencer par la scène de la fontaine, lieu de transition et de promesse.
