The epitaph donated by Hans and Jaan, two peasants from Türi parish, is evidence of the acceptance of ecclesiastic values and religious devotion among the Estonian peasantry. Other examples of this tendency from the Swedish era also exist. For instance, the grand wheel crosses, typical for North Estonia, that were once located in the Türi churchyard; and a chandelier (1659) donated by a peasant in the Keila church, the size of which exceeds those gifted by manor lords. Abstract:

In the European Union (EU), the current processes of globalization in rural areas have followed a model for highly developed societies that sociologists call “liquid modernity” (Bauman, 2000) with all its consequences. One of these processes is certainly the demographic exodus from these rural areas, especially from the areas in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. With the accession of the individual countries to the EU, the population of these areas has migrated mainly for economic reasons. Abstract:

The article presents the characteristics of ego-documents from the located in the State Archive of the Republic of Buryatia personal fond of the Kyakhta merchant of the second half of the 19th century Mikhail Fedorovich Nemchinov. Among the surviving manuscripts are autobiographical notes, personal and business correspondence. All these sources together form a voluminous merchant family archive, which in itself is quite a rare phenomenon.
