Abstract:
No contexto interdisciplinar entre Artes e Design, o texto aponta o espaço público como suporte físico e agente produtor de imagens na construção de narrativas visuais. Neste sentido, contextualiza a Arte de rua como ação potente, que protagoniza as vivências das pessoas, enquanto ativa lugares políticos de fala. Apresenta referências em Lynch (1990) e Mitchell (2017) para pensar a produção imagética das cidades como ações recíprocas,afirmando o protagonismo feminino neste discurso (Butler 2017, Davis 2016). Neste sentido, o projeto “Santas Mulheres” (2018) se apresenta como um objeto-resistência, que passa a circular pelo espaço público como prática artística e ativista.

Abstract:
O trabalho busca, a partir do Projeto Graffita Salvador, ilustrar as complexas relações entre arte, espaço público e suas apropriações, através da dimensão midiática da cidade, permitindo o estabelecimento de nexos entre: cidade, arte, mídia e estratégia comunicacional (de empresas e do poder público). A cidade e suas apropriações constitui-se em elemento midiático estratégico e faz parte de um complexo sistema de comunicação. A arte também comunica e persuade. Ademais, as empresas e os governos vêm investindo na criação de imagens corporativas positivas junto à opinião pública, objetivado fortalecer suas imagens a partir da constituição de símbolos de referência culturais e coletivos da cidade. Num quadro de dificuldades do financiamento público, favorecem alternativas e estratégias baseadas em parcerias entre o público e o privado na gestão das cidades, reforçando-se positivamente as imagens tanto governamental (idéia de comprometimento, participação e eficiência) como empresarial (responsabilidade social). As indagações relativas ao Projeto Grafita Salvador podem ajudar na compreensão dessas dinâmicas e suas conseqüências. A partir delas é possível estabelecer-se nexos entre as estratégias de comunicação, as formas de expressão artísticas, a cidade, os movimentos sócio culturais, a arte de rua, e a constituição do espaço público e suas apropriações, no contexto contemporâneo.

<p>Analisar a arte de rua e os mecanismos que a controlam nos permite entender melhor as cidades contemporâneas. Justamente por ocupar um lugar que é muitas vezes marginal e contestado, os artistas de rua e suas táticas de sobrevivência e legitimação expõem dinâmicas de poder, políticas culturais questionáveis, dificuldades de acesso aos espaços públicos, disputa pelo direito à cidade e observância das leis. As tentativas de regular a arte de rua podem nos dizer muito sobre determinados momentos históricos, as disputas da/na/pela cidade e, ainda, como as pessoas vivem juntas em ambientes urbanos complexos. O objetivo do presente trabalho é discutir brevemente como a arte de rua – enquanto prática comunicacional – pode evidenciar as disputas pela cidade. Apresenta-se aqui uma abordagem interdisciplinar, com foco na regulação da arte de rua e dos espaços públicos em que elas acontecem, com base em pesquisa de campo realizada em duas cidades: Rio de Janeiro e Montreal.</p>

O trabalho de Psicologia Escolar/Educacional teve como ponto de partida uma demanda dos jovens que integram comunidades pertencentes a Itaipu, Camboinhas e Piratininga, região oceânica do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, e participavam de atividades oferecidas pela Fundação Gol de Letra. A meta da intervenção psicológica era interferir na construção da subjetividade dos membros do grupo participante com ações educativas complementares, a partir da realização de oficinas de grafite, conforme sugerida pelos jovens. Quando entendido como uma linguagem que pretende transmitir anseios ou revelar inquietações, o grafite inclui necessariamente o componente psicológico presente na arte. Ademais, na relação educativa é fundamental estimular a competência dos educandos, enaltecendo suas iniciativas, no sentido da independência de suas ações, decisões e possibilidades de auto-aperfeiçoamento no aprendizado. As oportunidades oferecidas, combinadas com a capacidade e potencial humano, podem favorecer o reconhecimento do pensamento criativo e a autonomia no processo de aprender.

Como se dá a educação na rua? Qual encontro é necessário? Qual encontro é permitido? Há educação na rua? Há meninos e há educadores nas ruas, uma relação acontece. Um entrelugar efêmero brota. Para regar o broto: arte. Canetinhas, papéis, pipas, varetas, tintas, olhos, corpos, trabalho, suor. Este texto apresenta uma pequena amostra de dados coletados para pesquisa de mestrado apresentada à Faculdade de Educação da Unicamp, caracterizando-se por um trabalho etnográfico sobre o fazer de educadores sociais e meninos de rua, em Campinas/SP. Observa-se a relação estabelecida entre esses pares, esses corpos educadores entre si. O encontro suficientemente bom de educadores e meninos os leva a construir saberes e metodologias que fazem surgir as possibilidades além rua, da droga, da contenção. A relação entre educadores e meninos confirma que uma grande aliada para a solidificação do vínculo e construção do processo educativo é a criatividade e o fazer das mãos.

Resumo O presente trabalho apresenta as principais características da interação entre artistas de rua e o público em diferentes horários, localizações e tipos de arte, utilizando-se do método da observação. Com os resultados, foi possível verificar relações entre os códigos observados, como o perfil social dos espectadores e o tipo de arte que apreciam e a contribuição financeira. Outros aspectos que influenciam na interação com o artista são a faixa etária do público e a localização geográfica da atuação. A pesquisa evidenciou que a performance dos artistas de rua é um fenômeno democrático, porém de modo geral esses profissionais são ainda vistos pela população como pedintes, e não como pessoas de carreira artística em construção.

A arte de rua tem conquistado espaço significativo em Manaus (AM). O mural de Raí Campos – Raiz – foi selecionado como corpus para este trabalho por seu caráter de gênero discursivo híbrido que dialoga com outros: a fotografia de Christian Braga (2017), a fábula do Beija-flor e o poema “Arte de Raiz”, de Celdo Braga (2017). Por metodologias tomam-se a Análise de Discurso Crítica (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001 [1992], 2003), para considerar os aspectos relacionados às práticas discursivas e sociais; e a Gramática do Design Visual – GDV (KRESS e van LEEUWEN, 1996, 2006), para análise de gêneros multissemióticos, por meio das categorias dos Significados Composicional, Representacional e Interativo. A análise revelou uma relação interdiscursiva e intertextual entre os gêneros, evidenciando o caráter híbrido e multimodal do mural e o cruzamento de discursos nele presentes, conduzindo ideologias que representam o mundo dos participantes, e a representação da etnia Tembé em um cenário híbrido urbano.

Abstract:
Esta pesquisa investiga as possibilidades de inserção da arte no espaço das cidades, tendo como objeto um conjunto de \"ações de rua\" realizadas por mim entre 1998 e 2005. Essas ações consistem em inserções em espaços públicos de maneira a promover ofertas diferenciadas, que envolvem, em sua maioria, trocas. Trocas de sonhos por sonhos, de maçãs por desejos e de palavras por palavras. E ofertas de uma outra identidade, de uma escuta silenciosa e de verbos no imperativo proferidos em um carro de som. Tais ações suscitaram as reflexões presentes neste texto, em que as analiso, correlacionando-as a trabalhos realizados por outros artistas e coletivos de artistas, além de confrontá-las com algumas idéias do filósofo Jacques Rancière e do artista Daniel Buren. Quatro temas orientam minhas análises. O primeiro é o da participação do artista no mundo, que aqui é analisada como uma dupla possibilidade: a de ver essa participação como elemento transformador de consciências (como desejava Hélio Oiticica em 1967) e a de vislumbrá-la sob a ótica de Rancière, que diz temer que essa participação, na contemporaneidade, venha reduzir \"o poder artístico de provocação às tarefas éticas de testemunho sobre um mundo comum e de assistência aos mais desfavorecidos.\"O segundo tema é o da história e constituição do comércio informal nas ruas de São Paulo, já que minhas ações estão baseadas em estratégias e procedimentos típicos desse tipo de comércio, comum em grandes cidades. O terceiro tema remete à noção de troca, que está na base do comércio e do capital. E o último, ao conceito de heterotopia proposto por Foucault, do qual me aproprio para analisar alguns procedimentos de meu trabalho.
This work investigates the possibilities of art insertion in the urban realm, having as its object of inspection a set of \"street actions\" I performed between 1998 and 2005. These actions consist in interferences in public spaces in order to promote distinctive offerings, which involve mostly exchanges. Exchanging dreams by donuts, apples by wishes, and words by other words. And offering another identity, a silent listening, and imperative verbs through a loudspeaker. This text presents the thoughts raised by such actions, analyze these actions, and relate them to works by other artists and art collectives, besides confronting them with some ideas of the philosopher Jacques Rancière and the artist Daniel Buren. Four themes guide my analysis. First, the subject of the participation of the artist in the world, which I analyze as a double possibility: seeing such participation as an element of consciousness transformation (as desired by Hélio Oiticica in 1967) and under the perspective of Ranciére, who is afraid that such participation in the current times ends up reducing \"the artistic power of provoking to the ethical tasks of testimony about a common world and assistance to the underprivileged\". The second theme I deal with is the history and formation of informal business in São Paulo, since my actions are based on strategies and procedures inherent to this kind of commerce, very common in large cities. The third theme is the notion of exchanging, which is the basis of commerce and capital. And last, I deal with the concept of heterotopy proposed by Foucault, which I appropriate to analyze some of my work procedures.

The presented dissertation reflects upon artistc proposals wich confronted the artist with his practice, making him think about it over two different perspectives: the practice of the "street artist" and the "artist IN the street". It's about thinking the artistic practice related to the work "Portraits $1" (Retratos $1), made in the public context of the city streets, making portrait-drawings with a sfereographic pen on paper and duplicated-portrait with carbon paper on paper.The street is where the portrait-drawing takes place and is exchanged for R$1,00 (UM Real) while the duplicated-portrait created with the carbon paper is archived by the artist. This artistic project brings up "Key" questions to think about art today: where is the artists place, the production of art and the public? The research focuses on the artistic production wich takes place with the contact of the public, when acting like a street artist, the work blurs the value codes and legitimation towards what is produced, to both art context and street context.
A presente dissertação reflete sobre as propostas artísticas que confrontaram o artista com a sua prática, fazendo-o pensar como essa se dá sob os diferentes enfoques: a prática do artista DE rua e a prática do artista NA rua. Trata-se de pensar a prática artística a partir do trabalho Retratos $1 , realizada no contexto público das ruas da cidade, produzindo retratos desenhos com caneta esferográfica sobre papel e retratos-duplicata de papel carbono sobre papel. A rua é o lugar onde o retrato-desenho é trocado com o transeunte retratado por R$ 1,00 (Um Real) enquanto o retrato-duplicata gerado com o papel carbono é arquivado pelo artista. Este projeto de artista ressalta questões chaves para se pensar a arte hoje: qual o lugar do artista, da produção da arte e do público? A pesquisa foca na produção artística que se dá no contato direto com o público, quando atuando como um artista de rua, o trabalho borra os códigos de valor e legitimação para o que é produzido, tanto no contexto da arte, quanto no contexto das ruas.

Contudo, o reconhecimento deste tipo de prática enquanto arte ainda é paradoxal, pois tange diversos pontos problemáticos nas relações sociais. A intervenção chega aos olhos do espectador sem pedir permissão, insere-se no contexto urbano quase que naturalmente, e em alguns casos chega a se camuflar como se já fosse parte da arquitetura. Seja qual for a sua base estética, a intervenção urbana alcança um vasto espectro de espectadores, mesmo que eles não queiram. Este estudo procura evidenciar o processo de construção da maioridade, com base na trajetória de vida de alguns jovens que viveram pelas ruas de Florianópolis-SC, passaram pela instituição de abrigo e chegaram à maioridade. Desligados da instituição ao completarem 18 anos, continuam não tendo acesso aos direitos básicos de sobrevivência e à conquista da autonomia, retornando, em muitos casos, para a vida na rua. Para tanto realizei uma pesquisa de campo de agosto de 1998 a março de 1999, num primeiro momento, convivendo com eles, observando-os e, em seguida, utilizando a entrevista semi-estruturada, procurando ouvir e mostrar esta realidade. Busco descrever as interferências da família, da rua e da instituição no processo de construção desta maioridade. Ao evidenciar esta realidade brasileira, emergem os aspectos sócio-econômicos, políticos e culturais que a envolvem. Neles, encontram-se as trajetórias de vida desses jovens, marcadas pela luta pela sobrevivência, pelas experiências solidárias, bem como pelo desafio, resistência e dispositivos disciplinares que envolvem uma determinada "ordem" estabelecida.

Esta pesquisa procura dar visibilidade à sombra; corporificá-la, num certo sentido. Analisa a relação de complementaridade, ou antes, de unicidade entre luz e sombra, contemplando sua semelhança com outros fenômenos, como nascimento e morte, forma e vazio, visível e invisível. Para tanto, tem a fotografia como fio condutor de uma trajetória que se expande do laboratório para outros espaços, onde o fotografar se torna o trabalhar fotograficamente. Enquanto dissertação, está organizada em quatro capítulos, pelos quais se distribui uma seleção de obras realizadas entre 1997 e 2005. Da câmara escura à rua: fotografias (sobreposições, fotogramas e uma maneira específica de encarar a imagem), dão lugar a intervenções ao ar livre (baseadas na pintura e na escavação de sombras) e a instalações (que encontram abrigo dentro de uma escuridão fabricada).

A presente dissertação tem como objeto de estudo a questão do lugar da arte de rua na cidade de Florianópolis a partir da década de 1980. Do ponto de vista da história do tempo presente, aborda a construção de política pública municipal para a arte pública, desde a criação de lei de incentivo específica até as ações de repressão aos artistas de rua que levaram a proibição dos mesmos de ocuparem certos espaços urbanos. Este trabalho aborda ainda a questão da disputa de sentidos por parte do poder público em duas praças: a Praça XV de Novembro, ocupada no passado; e a Praça Bento Silvério, ocupada no presente por estes artistas. Além disso, por meio da história oral caracteriza percursos de artistas de rua em Florianópolis. Através da história destas duas praças, da legislação de incentivos à arte pública e, também, dos relatos dos artistas de rua, é possível perceber os incentivos e os limites para a arte pública na cidade de Florianópolis.
This dissertation is aimed at the study of some queries about the place of street art in the city of Florianopolis from the 1980s. From the perspective of the history of present time, it addresses the construction of the municipal public policy for public art, since the creation incentivizing laws for public art up to repressive measures against streets artists who were prohibited to presenting their work in some urban areas of the city. Also, through oral history characterizes street artists pathways of Florianópolis. This work also talks about the dispute of meanings from the government in two Town squares: the Praça XV de Novembro, which was used in the past; and the Praça Bento Silvério, which is now being used by these street artists. Through the history of these two Town squares, by the incentivizing laws for the public art and also, through reports made by these streets artists, it is possible to perceive the incentives and the limits towards the art in the city of Florianópólis.

Resumo: Como se dá a educação na rua? Qual encontro é necessário? Qual encontro é permitido? Há educação na rua? Esta pesquisa apresenta um olhar sobre o fazer de um grupo de educadores sociais e meninos de rua, em Campinas/SP, e tem como objetivo inventariar e analisar suas práticas educativas, entre os anos de 2006 a 2010. Há meninos e há educadores nas ruas. Uma relação acontece... Um entrelugar efêmero brota... Para regar o broto: arte. Canetinhas, papéis, pipas, varetas, tintas, olhos, corpos, trabalho, suor. Observa-se a relação estabelecida entre esses pares, esses corpos educadores entre si. O encontro suficientemente bom de educadores e meninos os levam a construir saberes e metodologias que mostram possibilidades além rua, da droga, da contenção. Essa relação confirma que uma grande aliada para a solidificação do vínculo e construção do processo educativo é a criatividade e o fazer das mãos.
Abstract: How is education in the street? What date is it necessary? What date is allowed? There is education on the street? This research provides a glimpse into the making of street educators and street children in Campinas, and aims to survey and analyze educational practices carried out by educators, between the years 2006 to 2010. There are boys and there are educators in the streets, a relationship happens. The space between ephemeral flows. To water the bud: art. Pens, papers, pipes, rods, paints, eyes, bodies, work, sweat. Observe the relationship between these pairs, these bodies between themselves educators. The finding enough good teachers and boys take them to build knowledge and methodologies that show possibilities beyond the street, drugs, restraint. This relationship confirms that a great ally for the solidification of the bond and construction of the educational process is creativity and to do of hands.

A arte do graffiti é uma forma de manifestação artística feita em espaços públicos, é um tipo de inscrição feita em paredes ou muros que reflete a realidade das ruas. As imagens que aparecem e desaparecem como ressurgências, desde civilizações clássicas, nas pinturas feitas em paredes, também são denominadas graffitis. Esta pesquisa fundamenta-se nas argumentações da partilha do sensível, teoria do filósofo francês Jacques Rancière, e da resistência e sobrevivência da imagem em suas ressurgências, teoria do filósofo francês Georges Didi-Huberman, para refletir sobre essas imagens do graffitis, ênfase nos graffitis da artista Nina Pandolfo, imagens da arte urbana que chamam a atenção do espectador às questões de ordem política, social e artística. Essas obras se ressignificam no tempo e no espaço, da rua para as galerias de arte, da produção plástica com spray para inúmeras técnicas e objetos de consumo; ressurgindo, assim, a cada dia novas propostas de imagem.
The graffiti art is a form of artistic expression in public spaces, is one type of entry made in walls or walls that reflect the reality of the streets. Quando se pensa em uma cidade que cumpre sua função social, imagina-se um local em que vias públicas, edifícios e equipamentos urbanos componham harmonicamente o cenário urbano. No entanto, essa possibilidade pode estar distante de se tornar realidade, até por que não há uma unanimidade com relação ao que seria essa harmonia. Nesse cenário, encontra-se o objeto de pesquisa dessa dissertação: a arte de rua. Essa é uma expressão artística que está sempre presente em embates sobre a sua legalidade ou ilegalidade. Para muitos, a arte de rua, corporificada no grafite e na pichação, nada mais é que poluição visual a ser punida criminalmente. Para outros, ambas manifestações fazem parte de uma expressão artística típica dos grandes centros urbanos. O nosso ordenamento jurídico aceita o grafite, desde que feito com consentimento do proprietário do imóvel em que é aplicado. No entanto, a pichação é uma conduta tipificada como crime pela Lei 9.605/1998, a Lei dos Crimes Ambientais. A presente dissertação traz uma análise do que foi e do que, atualmente, é o Direito Urbanístico. Verifica quais as principais tendências com relação à organização da paisagem urbana nas cidades de Barcelona, Berlim, Nova York e São Paulo. Investiga os instrumentos possíveis de serem usados para a gestão de cidades sustentáveis e funcionais, bem como a inclusão da arte de rua como elemento constituinte da paisagem urbana. Entre esses instrumentos, faz-se uma análise mais aprofundada do Plano Diretor Estratégico de São Paulo. Por fim, levanta algumas possibilidades do uso de espaços reservados para a prática e exposição de arte de rua, em especial do grafite, na modalidade de ZEPEC-APC, uma vez que a arte de rua faz parte da identidade visual da cidade de São Paulo. A ideia é a de se criar diversos espaços pela cidade ¿ para que abarque ao máximo a participação da sociedade ¿ na forma de Galerias de Arte de Rua. Esses espaços vão ao encontro de tendências mundiais de gestão urbana aliadas à arte e à cultura.
Thinking in a city that comply with its social function, could imagine a place where public streets, buildings and urban equipment harmoniously compose the urban scene. However, this possibility may be far from becoming reality, even because there is no unanimity in relation to what that harmony would be. In this scene, the research object of this essay is the street art. This is an artistic expression that is far from pleasing to all. On the other way, it is always present in discussion about its legality or illegality. For many, street art is nothing more than visual pollution to be punished criminally. For others, only the authorized graffiti are part of an artistic expression typical of big urban centers. Our legal system accepts the authorized graffiti, if could be prove that it is done with the permission of the owner of the property in which it is applied. However, the non-authorized graffiti is a conduct typified as a crime by Law 9605/1998, the Law of Environmental Crimes. This essay presents an analysis of what was and what is currently the Urban Law. It verifies the main trends with regard to the organization of the urban landscape in the cities of Barcelona, Berlin, New York and São Paulo. It investigates the possible instruments to be used for the management of sustainable and functional cities. Among these instruments, a more in-depth analysis of the Strategic Master Plan of São Paulo is carried out. Finally, it raises some possibilities of the use of spaces reserved for the practice and exhibition of street art, especially of the authorized graffiti, in the ZEPEC-APC modality, since street art is part of the visual identity of the city of São Paul. The idea is to create several spaces throughout the city ¿ to include society as much as possible - in the form of Street Art Galleries. These spaces are in agreement with the world trends in urban management combined with art and culture.

AbstractOver the past decade a plethora of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been identified, initiating an explosion in RNA research. Although RNA sequencing methods provide unsurpassed insights into ncRNA distribution and expression, detailed information on structure and processing are harder to extract from sequence data. In contrast, northern blotting methods provide uniquely detailed insights into complex RNA populations but are rarely employed outside specialist RNA research groups. Such techniques are generally considered difficult for nonspecialists, which is unfortunate as substantial technical advances in the past few decades have solved the major challenges. Here we present simple, reproducible and highly robust protocols for separating glyoxylated RNA on agarose gels and heat denatured RNA on polyacrylamide–urea gels using standard laboratory electrophoresis equipment. We also provide reliable transfer and hybridization protocols that do not require optimization for most applications. Together, these should allow any molecular biology lab to elucidate the structure and processing of ncRNAs of interest.

AbstractRNA molecules play important roles in almost every cellular process, and their functions are mediated by their sequence and structure. Determining the secondary structure of RNAs is central to understanding RNA function and evolution. RNA structure probing techniques coupled to high-throughput sequencing allow determining structural features of RNA molecules at transcriptome-wide scales. Our group recently developed a novel Illumina-based implementation of in vitro parallel probing of RNA structures called nextPARS.Here, we describe a protocol for the computation of the nextPARS scores and their use to obtain the structural profile (single- or double-stranded state) of an RNA sequence at single-nucleotide resolution.

AbstractAlthough epigenetic states are typically associated with DNA-methylation and posttranslational histone modifications, RNAs often play an important role in their regulation. Specific examples have already been discussed in the context of dosage compensation (see book ► Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-68670-3_4 of Wutz) and genomic imprinting (see book ► Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-68670-3_5 of Grossniklaus). In this Chapter, we will take a closer look at a particular class of RNAs implicated in gene silencing. Although the focus will lie on RNA-based silencing mechanisms in plants, many of its components, such as RNase III-related DICERLIKE endonucleases or small RNA-binding ARGONAUTE proteins, are conserved in animals, plants, and fungi. On the one hand, small RNAs are involved in post-transcriptional silencing by targeting mRNAs for degradation or inhibiting their translation, a feature that has been exploited for large-scale genetic screens. On the other hand, they also play a central role in transcriptional gene silencing, for instance in the repression of transposable elements across a wide variety of organisms. In plants, this involves a complex system whereby small RNAs derived from transposons and repeats direct DNA-methylation and repressive histone modifications in a sequence-specific manner. Recent results link this so-called RNA-dependent DNA-methylation to paramutation, a classical epigenetic phenomenon where one allele directs a heritable epigenetic change in another.

Following its move to the cytoplasm, the generated mRNA is briefly translated to the encoded protein. If transcription and translation are dependent on the family of RNA polymerase, these two phenomena could be interfered with through the process designated as gene regulation. Thus, large molecules of RNA (single-stranded or double-stranded) consequently sliced into small molecules produce nascent small interfering RNA ranging from 21 to 27 nucleotides. This chapter revisits the biogenesis of these two types of RNAi, miRNA and siRNA, and notably their involvement in plant gene regulation. Following their sequential transcription and their specific involvement, we will consider the sources and roles of RNA interference in plants and we will look at their detection in fruit crops. We discuss their applications and the risk assessment studies in fruit crops.

Abstract:
Oxon Run Parkway (OXRN) is a 51-hectare (126-acre) natural area within Washington, D.C. administered by the National Park Service under National Capital Parks East (NACE). The original plan called for a road, slated to follow Oxon Run stream, but this never came to fruition; despite this, the moniker stuck. The majority of the original Oxon Run Parkway is managed by the District of Columbia. The section of Oxon Run Parkway under NPS jurisdiction contains wetlands and forests, as well as the only McAteean magnolia bogs still remaining in the District. The lower Cretaceous Potomac Group, known as one of the few dinosaur-bearing rock units on the east coast of North America, crops out within Oxon Run. One of the most prevalent fossil-bearing resources are the siderite, or “bog iron” sandstone slabs that sometimes preserve the footprints or trackways of various vertebrates, including dinosaurs. Such trackways have been reported from Potomac Group outcrops throughout the Atlantic Coastal Plain of Maryland and Virginia. In 2019, National Capital Parks-East took possession of such a track, referred to a dinosaur, collected by paleontologist Dr. Peter Kranz. This report was compiled after a paleontological survey of Oxon Run Parkway and is intended as a supplement to the National Capital Parks East Paleontological Resource Inventory (Nelson et al. 2019). This report contains information on the history of Oxon Run Parkway and its geology, as well as discussion of the fossil track.

On 7 July 2020, the National Council – the first chamber of the Austrian Parliament – passed a package of legislation introducing a new framework for the methods of allocating federal budgets to research, technology, and innovation (RTI). Its core is the Research Financing Act (RFA), complemented by several amendments to existing laws that are necessary for its implementation. Entry into force was on 25 July 2020, the amendments became effective as of 1 January 2021 (BGBl1. I No. 75/20202). The RFA is the biggest legislative project in the field of RTI policy since 2004 when the Research Funding Agency (FFG) was established (Pichler et al. 2007, pp. 329-336; Stampfer et al. 2010, pp. 775-776). For the first time, budget law regulations are now aligned with the needs of institutions performing or funding RTI (Pichler 2021). This article outlines the background and content of the RFA and concludes with a view on the significance of evaluation within the new system.

This deliverable report focuses on the main Uncertainty Quanti cation (UQ) results obtained within the EXAscale Quanti cation of Uncertainties for Technology and Science Simulation (ExaQUte) project. Details on the turbulent wind inlet generator, that enables the supply of random, yet steady, wind velocity boundary conditions during run-time, are given in section 2. This enables the developed UQ workflow, whose results are presented on the basis of the Commonwealth Advisory Aeronautical Council (CAARC) as described in Deliverable 7.1. Finally, the completed UQ workflow and the results are evaluated from an application-driven wind engineering point of view. Thereby, the significance of the developed methods and the obtained results are discussed and their applicability in practical wind-engineering applications is tested through a complete test-run of the UQ workflow.

Abstract:
This paper describes the work carried out by the Inter-American Development Bank, the IDB Lab, LACChain, Cambridge Quantum Computing (CQC), and Tecnológico de Monterrey to identify and eliminate quantum threats in blockchain networks. The advent of quantum computing threatens internet protocols and blockchain networks because they utilize non-quantum resistant cryptographic algorithms. When quantum computers become robust enough to run Shor's algorithm on a large scale, the most used asymmetric algorithms, utilized for digital signatures and message encryption, such as RSA, (EC)DSA, and (EC)DH, will be no longer secure. Quantum computers will be able to break them within a short period of time. Similarly, Grover's algorithm concedes a quadratic advantage for mining blocks in certain consensus protocols such as proof of work. Today, there are hundreds of billions of dollars denominated in cryptocurrencies that rely on blockchain ledgers as well as the thousands of blockchain-based applications storing value in blockchain networks. Cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based applications require solutions that guarantee quantum resistance in order to preserve the integrity of data and assets in their public and immutable ledgers. We have designed and developed a layer-two solution to secure the exchange of information between blockchain nodes over the internet and introduced a second signature in transactions using post-quantum keys. Our versatile solution can be applied to any blockchain network. In our implementation, quantum entropy was provided via the IronBridge Platform from CQC and we used LACChain Besu as the blockchain network.

Permanent demand shocks are the main driver of labor adjustments. A one standard deviation demand shock increases the net employment rate by 6 percentage points in the long run, while a technology shock increases it by 0.5. Transitory demand shocks have much smaller impacts. When hit by a permanent demand shock, firms adjust fast and symmetrically. Most of the labor change occurs within a year. If the shock is positive, firms adjust by increasing hires. If the shock is negative, they increase separations without reducing hires.

Despite a UN-brokered peace agreement in December 2018, the conflict in Yemen has run into its sixth year. In Taiz Governorate, civilians continue to bear the brunt of conflict. Every day, they face death or injury from indiscriminate attacks, gender-based violence in their homes and poor access to food, water and medical care. As people’s resources are further exhausted, their safety, security and well-being are only likely to worsen. The COVID-19 pandemic has added an additional layer to the ongoing crisis. The people of Taiz –and across Yemen as a whole – desperately need a lasting and inclusive peace process to end the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
