The article presents the analysis results of the design of dump trucks used in road construction field. The authors point out the tendency of expanding the use of dump trucks with articulated frames in the world practice. The necessity of evaluating the possibilities of domestic manufacturers to produce the machines of this type is justified. Comparative evaluation of samples was carried out by comparing generalized indicators of the vehicle quality determined by their technical level coefficients, as well as by directly comparing a number of specific indicators of their performance properties

The directional performance characteristics of articulated frame steering vehicles are known to be strongly coupled with the kinematic characteristics and the dynamic characteristics of the steering system. The reported studies on articulated frame steering generally focus on the yaw divergence behaviour or the snaking tendency of the vehicle based on its free-yaw-oscillation response, while neglecting important contributions due to the kinematics and the dynamics of the steering system. Apart from kinematics of the steering system, the dynamics of the actuating system strongly influence the performance of the AFSV, which is generally neglected in the reported studies. In this study, a yaw-plane model of the articulated vehicle coupled with the kinematic and dynamics properties of the steering struts is formulated to identify objective measures of the AFSV under steering inputs. Abstract The paper presents a model of an articulated vehicle with a flexible frame of a semi-trailer. The rigid finite element method in a modified formulation is used for discretisation of the frame. In order to carry out effective numerical simulation, a reduced model with a considerably smaller number of degrees of freedom is proposed. The parameters of the reduced model are chosen in an optimization process by using a genetic algorithm. Abstract:
This study investigates tracking in monocular image sequences by a model-free, occlusion accommodating active contour method. The objective functional contains a model-free shape tracking term to constrain the active curve in a frame to have a shape which approximates as closely as possible the shape of the active curve in the preceding frame. It complements a kernel photometric tracking term which constrains the active curve in a frame to enclose an intensity profile that matches as closely as possible the profile within the curve in the preceding frame. This data term is in kernel form so as

Abstract Law is known to exist only being articulated in a language and discourse, and the students’ ability to comprehend and use its meta-language is one of the main goals for English for Legal Purposes (ELP) teaching. The knowledge of terminology enables students to fit new information (linguistic, disciplinary, factual, cultural, etc.) into the framework of the legal system they are studying. The acquisition of terminology in a foreign language implies knowledge of both conceptual content and the means of its verbalization. This article argues for a cognitive approach to teaching Legal Eng

This article draws on Māori claims to fisheries in Aotearoa New Zealand as well as their opposition to the establishment of a large scale marine protected area, to question whether commoning, as a conceptual frame, can account for indigenous resistances in ocean environments. It argues that the theorisation of horizontal collective activism, an emphasis on a politics of relationality encompassing humans and non-humans and the potential for transformative practice in commonings, is congruent with the indigenous sociality mobilised by Māori in relation to their seascapes. A contested issue is the extent to which refugee claimants should have access to health care in Western host countries with publicly subsidized health-care systems. In Canada, for a period of over fifty years, the federal government provided relatively comprehensive health coverage to refugees and refugee claimants through the Interim Federal Health Plan (IFHP). Significant cuts to the IFHP were implemented in June 2012 by the Conservative federal government (2006–15), who justified these cuts through public statements portraying refugee claimants as bring- ing bogus claims that inundate the r

We present a markerless motion capture system able to determine the kinematic structure while measuring joint movement. In addition to volume data, we also use texture data to precisely measure the degrees of freedom that do not affect the shape, e.g., pronation/supination angles of the forearm and shank. We first obtain topology using a Reeb graph and independently build a tentative articulated-body chain model of the subject for each frame. We then extract a common optimized chain model by comparing joint angles of tentative models of all frames to identify which joints are related to descri

Abstract:
The paper describes the tip responses of a flexible articulated manipulator to a stationary random excitation of the base. The expressions for the covariance tensors of the manipulator tip motion are developed in the base and the inertia frame. The singular value decomposition technique is applied for the derivation of expressions for the principal variances. The principal variances are computed and discussed for a wide range of manipulator configurations and damping coefficients.
