Abstract:
Smartphone usage has revolutionized the world to many settings including that of the education system with numerous potential and realized benefits. While the functions of smartphones, such as text messaging, multimedia, and Internet connectivity, may seem purely recreational, they can be used within the academic institution to manage students attendance to speed up the process of taking attendance by academic instructors, hence reduces time, human errors and redundant works as compared to the manual attendance system. In this paper, we introduced an automatic examination attendance system on smartphones based on the Barcode to automatically capture student examination attendance. Although many existing systems (Sudha et al. 2015) have been proposed using smartphones for automatic student attendance, there is little study known about a system that is specifically designed for capturing student examination attendance. The main difference among our system and existing systems is that existing systems are using extra hardware device Barcode reader while our system is using smartphone, which highly reduce the cost. Our experiment shows that our proposed student examination attendance system is better for capturing the student attendance information during the examination as compared to the general student attendance systems.

Abstract:
Manual time and attendance systems are still being practiced within a considerable number of universities, colleges, government departments and companies. This traditional system requires the user to fill in their timesheets or sign on the attendance sheet manually. The practice inefficient and ineffective for university’s student attendance recording due to, i) lecturer may lose the attendance sheet, ii) student may sign for their friends, iii) student may forget to sign on the attendance sheet, and iv) challenging to monitor attendance rate and analysis. Thus, there is a necessity to change these traditional attendance recording methods to a more efficient one. The attendance rate is significant because students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend classes consistently. As such, a mobile app, namely Smart-Hadir, is designed to overcome problems as mentioned above. Smart-Hadir is a smartphone application developed by UMS aimed to record student attendance digitally during a class session. The technology used is slightly different from the existing applications, where Smart-Hadir is not using RFID technology but rather covers NFC, QR code, and beacon technologies. Attendance could be taken either using NFC or QR code displayed on the wall using a projector or scan the available beacon. Lecturers can create class session using the Smart-Hadir anywhere and anytime. Students are then required to take their attendance either scan the QR code, search the beacon, or swiped their student card on the lecturer’s phone. The students’ attendance will be immediately captured and saved into the database. Lecturers will be able to view the statistic report, identify and e-mail absentees, as well as monitor students’ attendance behaviour. A statistical report can be generated. It shows the percentages of students’ attendance rate, absent rate, and status. The Smart-Hadir is advantageous as it can be used to capture meeting or event attendance record as well.

Role of the student attendance record is very important in the primary, secondary, and tertiary education. The purpose of this record is monitoring student activity in the teaching and learning process and regarded as one of the important learning assessments. Moreover, a data processing for recording the student attendance is currently done in various ways such as fingerprint, radio frequent identification (RFID), facial recognition system, android-based application, and others. However, many conventional ways (i.e., using paper-based system) are still used, especially in Indonesia. This is because several universities still rarely have enough funds for developing innovative systems. In this research, the image processing application for capturing student attendance data was built. The objective of this research was to provide an efficient alternative to monitor student activities in teaching and learning process. The image processing produced the information related to student attendance by scanning the attendance file through jpg/jpeg using learning vector quantization (LVG) as the process model.

One of the important things that need to be considered in student assessment is the problem of student presence. The student attendance process that is very commonly done by universities is recording attendance manually, as currently applied by STMIK "AMIKBANDUNG". QR Code technology is a technology that can encode and decode all types of data into an image in the form of a code and can be read with a smartphone, this is very suitable for use as data validation, which is usually used for digital payment methods today. With these advantages QR Code technology can be implemented as well as supporting media in the smooth process of lecture attendance, This is interesting to the author to conduct research on lecture presence design using QR Code technology, with QR Code technology, each student is expected to no longer need to sign the form absent because the presence data will be identified automatically via a smartphone that can scan the QR Code and be stored in the system database.

A smart student attendance system (SSAS) is presented in this paper. The system is divided into two phases: hardware and software. The Hardware phase is implemented based on Arduino's camera while the software phase is achieved by using image processing with face recognition depended on the cross-correlation technique. In comparison with traditional attendance systems, roll call, and sign-in sheet, the proposed system is faster and more reliable (because there is no action needed by a human being who by its nature makes mistakes). At the same time, it is cheaper when compared with other automatic attendance systems. The proposed system provides a faster, cheaper and reachable system for an automatic smart student attendance that monitors and generates attendance report automatically.

Abstract:
Student attendance during classroom hours is important, because it impacts the academic performance of students. Consequently, several universities impose a minimum attendance percentage criterion for students to be allowed to attend examinations; therefore, recording student attendance is a vital task. Conventional methods for recording student attendance in the classroom, such as roll-call and sign-in, are an inefficient use of instruction time and only increase teachers’ workloads. In this study, we propose a Bluetooth Low Energy-based student positioning framework for automatically recording student attendance in classrooms. The proposed architecture consists of two components, an indoor positioning framework within the classroom and student attendance registration. Experimental studies using our method show that the Received Signal Strength Indicator fingerprinting technique that is used in indoor scenarios can achieve satisfactory positioning accuracy, even in a classroom environment with typically high signal interference. We intentionally focused on designing a basic system with simple indoor devices based on ubiquitous Bluetooth technology and integrating an attendance system with computational techniques in order to minimize operational costs and complications. The proposed system is tested and demonstrated to be usable in a real classroom environment at Rangsit University, Thailand.

Abstract:
Attendance information conducted by students can now be easily accessed by a supervisor. However, there are 3 (three) difficulties faced by supervisors, one of which is presenting information with tables requiring considerable time and very high accuracy to measure the comparison of information contained within it. In order to facilitate the supervisor in recording and measuring attendance of student tutoring students handled, the Attendance Rating system will present information in the form of graphics using Highchart. Presentation of information in the form of a graph on Attendance Assessment will present information in the form of Nim (Student Registration Number), supervisor, and guidance time. Information on the guidance time in the graph can be used as a comparison to measure the level of student activity in following the guidance. The Attendance Rating System uses the YII Frameworkbased website because it is also easy to develop web applications and the YII Framework has a good level of security. In this study, there are 5 (five) advantages and 1 (one) deficiency in the Attendance Assessment system. With this research, it is expected that the Attendance Assessment system can improve the quality of student attendance in the tutoring process at Raharja College.

Attendance in educational institutions is an important thing that is always a common concern, attendance is used to measure student performance or seriousness in taking education. Klabat University as an Educational institution, in this case at the Faculty of Computer Science. Trying to manage attendance as well as possible to get information that is fast, precise and accurate. with this information about attendance, this institution can find out what things need to be improved and what things should be limited, or what decisions must be made for student success, which are related to attendance. The need for attendance reports at the Computer Faculty of Klabat University is urgently needed. Currently attendance report are still using paper, and the process for creating the report are by manual input one by one for generating the report. This research will create an application that runs on the Android operating system and this application will later be accessed with an Android-based smartphone with a student ID card barcode scan feature, as a marker of student attendance, so the report can be generated automatically into the system. The research model or method used is the Prototyping method. Prototyping design models are made faster so that the time needed for system development is shorter. This characteristic is very suitable with the needs of the existing system that only requires a short time in its development. The tools that will be used by researcher are MIT App Inventor to build an Android applications. For the purposes of real time reports of student attendance, researcher will use Google apps as a data storage facility and as a means for generating reports. The results of this study are expected to create an android-based mobile application that in real time can send student attendance data that can be accessed directly anytime and anywhere in the form of attendance report data. For future development, researcher may suggest to use other method than barcode scanning. RFID or NFC tag supported for student ID Card can be use for attendance check.
