Full textOur thesis in science education explore the potentiality of contemporary scientific objects to become objects of heritage through a study case: the Cockcroft-Walton particle accelerator (CW). We call it “patrimonialisation” (the making of heritage) according to Information and Communication Sciences. We assume that the value of contemporary scientific objects, an important stage of the patrimonialisation, is specific and requires a particular expertise. Our work was realized thanks to a french financing facility, allowing us to work with Le musée des Confluences in Lyon (France), which exposes a particle accelerator CW in Societies: the human theater. The Institute of Lyon Nuclear physics (IPNL) also possesses a device of this type, who is the focus of a recognition project. sing a multidisciplinary approach, our analysis begin with a study of historical, epistemological, social and scientific context, of the first one CW. We also led two inquiries, the first one to redraw the accelerator CW trajectory in Lyon, the second to find all the accelerators CW in the world. Several studies have indeed highlighted the stages of the patrimonialisation. Relying on these studies we characterized the specificities of the contemporary scientific heritage, and looked for tracks left by these characteristics in the exhibition text (museography). Our results demonstrate the lack of information allowing the interpretation (lecture) and the appropriation of the accelerator CW by a public, and invite us to question the representational contents of the object, conveyed through other contexts of use, formal or fictional

Full textThis thesis suggests novel approaches and design processes to create and produce robotic platforms, the control and morphology of which can be freely explored through experimentation in the real world, that are easy to diffuse and reproduce in the research community. Especially, this alternative design methodology is driven by the desire to:• freely explore morphological properties,• reduce the amount of time required between an idea and its experimentation on an actual robotic platform in the real world,• makes experiments that should be easy to do, actually easy to do,• make the work easily reproducible in any other lab,• keep the work modular and free to use in accordance with open source principles,so it can be reused and extended for other projects. Our approach follows novel design methods for both design and production, for all technological aspects of the robot (i.e. mechanics, actuation, electronics, software, distribution). In particular these methods relies on 3D printing for all mechanical parts, the Arduino electronic architecture for the sensors acquisition, an easy to use Python API called pypot for the control and finally the distribution of all our work under open source licenses. Using this methodology, we create the Poppy Humanoid robot, a fully modular robot allowing exploring freely the role of morphology and adapting its body to specific experimental setup. This robot has been released under open source license and all files are easily accessible on the GitHub repository: https://www.github.com/poppy_project/. We experiment the use of this robot for several applications. First, as a scientific tool and we show that Poppy can be easily and quickly modified to either explore the role of morphology or to be adapted to different experimental setups. Based on this work, but from another perspective we investigate the potential impact of such platform for educational and artistic applications

Full textThis thesis aims to analyze the exhibition " Pittura francese d’oggi " opened at the " Modern Art Gallery " in Rome October 12, 1946. This exhibition, organized by the services of the ' " AFAA " and " D.G.R.C. " the French Ministry of Public Affairs , submits to the Italian public, for the first time after the end of the World War, works of contemporary young French painters. Archival documents have identified that the Italian exhibition is actually a revised and corrected version of a previous exhibition held in Bern in March 1946, entitled " Ecole de Paris " . After numerous negotiations with the Embassy of Austria, instead of moving to Vienna , the exhibition was presented in Prague last summer 1946. Its transfer to Italy, due to a favorable cultural climate with France , urged the organizers to show it in six Italian cities. First of all, as a preview, in Venice ; in Rome where he officially opened , and then Naples Florence, Milan and Turin, where finally closed in January 1947.the second part of the thesis consists in the reconstruction of the catalog, with the reproduction of the works in this exhibition

Full textAt the time of the Anthropocene, life sciences and new artistic practices are decompartmentalizing knowledge and practices, inviting us to reconsider the presence of animals in performing arts. The aim of this thesis is to design a creative process that favors the agency of the horse on stage thanks to tools and knowledge that can reveal a new approach to interspecies relations. The author of this thesis, scenographer-researcher-rider and her two trail horses Listan and Luzio, explore the modalities of their particular breed (Haraway) by putting it to work at the heart of the scenic device. Based on this practice from 2008 to 2019 in the professional field of performance art and live performance, 152 experiments were conducted. Referring to the history of equestrian art (Hodak), to ethology (Lorenz), to sociology and philosophy (Despret), as well as to more recent trends, such as technozoosemiotics (Bec), partnerships between art, science and technology (Fourmentraux) and cognitive ethology (Leblanc), the research is divided into three parts. The first part is devoted to the transformation of the science of horse riding into the art of riding, in the 17th century, (de Pluvinel) leading to the advent of the modern circus in the 18th century and into equestrian show as we know it today (Zingaro). The second part opens beyond the areas of research usually associated with the horse. On the one hand, on the experiences of enlightened amateurs that reveal previously unknown equine capacities. On the other, in the field of the arts, on different ways of approaching creation with the animal. Without avoiding the current issues around animal work (Porcher), a semiotic approach (Bouissac) questions the symbolic status and agency (Latour) of these animals at the core of the art piece. This second part ends by associating research in animal cognition with the development of technological interfaces that allow the author to explore in an inventive way the expressive modalities of a form of animal / machine / human language . In search of creation, the third part tests these different findings. Opting for an experimental artistic practice, this research alternately gives the horses the status of experimenters in the laboratory and artistic partners onstage (Hediger). The resulting performances consider scenography as a virtual apparatus that produces an intermediality between the animal using interactive tools and the human interpreter who accompanies them, bringing to light for the spectator a new place for relationship and life in art
