Abstract:
In the following article, two copper coins of the Artuqid ruler Fakhr al-Dīn Qarā Arslān are presented and discussed. These two coins are widely known, but are described and interpreted differently. It will be demonstrated how, through superficial observation and careless description of coins, errors can be found even in the standard literature. Such errors, as will be demonstrated here, lead to interpretations that are largely erroneous.

Abstract:
Hasankeyf is a historical settlement area 37 km from Batman city center. Because of thousands of houses formed by carving rocks, it is called “Haskefo” or “Hısn-ı Keyfa” in Syriac and Arabic meaning “City of Caves” or “Rocks City”. The names of “Cepha” (Kefa) and “Hısn-ı Keyfa” in the historical sources have turned into “Hasankeyf” in the last period of the Ottomans. The early middle ages, were conquered in 640 at the time of the second Caliph Umar. During the Islamic period, Hasankeyf was under the administration of the Umayyads, Abbasids, Hamdanis and Mervans, respectively. Sökmen, the son of Artuq, who was the commander of Seljuki Sultan Alparslan, established a state called “Hısn-ı Keyfa Artuqids” in 1101. Hasankeyf became the capital of the “Hısn-ı Keyfa” and “Amida” (Diyarbakır) principals of the Artuqids for 130 years. In 1232, the ruler of the Ayyubids al-Meliku’l Kâmil conquered the city and put an end to the dominance of the Artuqids. With the looting and destruction of the Mongolian invasion in 1260, Hasankeyf was greatly damaged irreversibly. After the Mongolian invasion, the Ayyubids continued their existence as depending on them. Having been under Akkoyunlu rule for a short time (1461-1482), the ruling of Hasankeyf, captured by the Ottoman Empire in 1517. Hasankeyf was ruled as a township and sanjak center connected to Diyarbakır Government (Beylerbeyi) in the Ottoman state system. In the sources, Hasankeyf is a wealthy city of 1,700 dwellings, of which 9500 inhabitants lived in the late 16th century. Cave-type houses carved by humans takes the first place, and these structures which make Hasankeyf famous are believed to be up to 4500. These first settlements were carved into rock masses at an average height of 135 meters starting from the edge of the Tigris River. This section, which is called as “Upper City” and “Kalebaşı”, has been transformed into Citadel with its fortified walls and splendid doors suitable for its natural structure in the periods of Artuqids and Ayyubids. It was reorganized and settled in the Ottoman period and used until 1970’s. The first entrance gate and the main palace of the Great Palace are from the Roman era. The monuments of the Artuqid State, which brought the second identity to the city, are also in ruins. Dicle-Hasankeyf Bridge which is the largest and widest archway bridge in the Middle Ages, the two madrasas in the group of constructions called, “Zeynel Bey Social Complex” which was discovered by the excavations of 2004-2005, some parts of the Great Palace, water systems extending to the pavilions in the Salahiye Gardens and to the castle. Hasankeyf’s recent view has been formed by the monuments belonging to the Ayyubid period. Sultan Süleyman Mosque (1407), Er- Rızk Mosque (1409), Kızlar (Eyyubi) Mosque, Yamaç Complex, Small Palace, part of the Grand Palace, three castle gates and Imam Abdullah Tomb and Zawiyah are among these monuments. The tomb made for Zeynel Bey (1473?), the son of Akkoyunlu Uzun Hasan, is the only example of its kind in Anatolia and it is the symbol of Hasankeyf. Koç Mosque and mosque with brick minaret in the Mardinike Social Complex indicate the Great Seljuk architecture. During the Ottoman period, a madrasa and a caravanserai were added to the Zeynel Bey Social Complex, the foundation structures that had been built before were restored and a bazaar and covered bazaar were constructed with a mosque in the Lower City. Abstract:
Ottoman chronicles contain information about the genealogy of the founding family of the Ottoman Empire, their migration adventures to Anatolia, their migration route and the places where they settled. The fact that the first Ottoman chronicles were written approximately 150 years after the establishment of the state caused the information given to be questioned and discussed, but with the increase in topological research, it began to be accepted that some events and places described as narratives and legends had historical counterparts. It is also noteworthy that the places where the Karakeçili, who define themselves as the companions of Ertuğrul Gâzi, were concentrated in Anatolia and the places where the Ottomans settled and migrated in Anatolia are also noteworthy. Is this geographical intersection a coincidence, or is there a historical equivalent to the tradition of Karakeçili people seeing themselves as being together with the Kayı-Ottomans? We believe that it is necessary to seek an answer to the question. In this study, the migration routes of the Karakeçili organizations in the Artuqid, Seljuk and Germiyan areas and the Ottomans will be compared and evaluated in the light of cadastral registers and chronicles.

İçkale Artuklu Palace Excavation is carried out in Amida Höyük, in the area of İçkale Museum Complex, in Cevatpaşa District of Diyarbakır Central Sur district. The excavation area is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Artuqid Palace Excavation was first carried out by Prof. in 1961-62. Dr. It was held under the chairmanship of Oktay ASLANAPA. The excavation was then suspended, and after 56 years, in 2018, under the chairmanship of Diyarbakır Museum Directorate, Dicle University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. It was restarted under the Scientific Consultancy of İrfan YILDIZ. The excavation was granted the status of excavations carried out by Presidential decision in 2019. During the excavations carried out in 1961-62, the palace’s council chamber and bath with a courtyard, four iwans and a tile-decorated pool were unearthed. During the excavations carried out in 2018, a water source that has been flowing for thousands of years inside Amida Mound and a secret tunnel (escape tunnel) opened to this source were detected. During the excavations carried out between 2018 and 2022, the courthouse, reception hall and rooms of the palace were unearthed. According to the findings obtained during the excavations, the first settlement in Amida Höyük (in the center of Diyarbakır) dates back to 9000 BC, 9000 years ago. It was determined that it started in the 7000s (Middle Neolithic) and continued uninterrupted. During the excavations, the water system installed in the palace by the famous Islamic Scholar Ismail Ebu’l Iz bin Rezzaz Al Cezeri, the founder of the science of cybernetics, who lived in the palace for 25 years and built the world’s first robots, was discovered. In the studies, the tunnel where Meryem-i Dara, the ruler of the city, was said to have escaped when the Islamic armies conquered the city, was identified and data that would presuppose the accuracy of the information in the legends were obtained. During the studies, it was determined that a part of the famous İçkale Water Source, which is frequently mentioned in historical sources, is inside the mound today. Diyarbakır İçkale Artuklu Palace Excavation is also important in terms of changing the start date of the first settlement in the center of Diyarbakır and revealing the place where the famous Islamic scholar Al-Jazari built the first robots in the world, laid the foundations of the cybernetics and automation system and developed the crankshaft. Abstract Giovanni Maria Artusi, like Eduard Hanslick, made the mistake of tangling with a great composer. Thereby he earned the fate of the Beckmessers of this world, to be branded a hopeless reactionary and a philistine unable to appreciate true genius. Music historians have had few kind words for Artusi. He has even been charged—unjustly—with composing a polemic pamphlet against his teacher Zarlino, when, actually, the pamphlet was a eulogy, and it was as Zarlino’s defender that he entered the debates on the rules of counterpoint.
