Abstract:
AbstractThe early presence of the Aryans in the Near East is the topic of the research I have undertaken using the positive material and linguistic evidence, part of which has already been published, while the other, the main body of the work (Main Work) will be published as an extensive version.1 In these works, and based on linguistic evidences, such as Aryan loanwords, ethnonyms and toponyms extant in the archaic Near Eastern texts as well as due to the absolute lack of loanwords from the so-called pre-Iranian native languages in the Old Iranian dialects, the conventional theory of the late migration of Aryans into the Iranian Highland has been refuted as "strongly disproved". Based on the same evidence, a pre-Sumerian presence of the Aryans in Mesopotamia has been substantiated (see Aryans 5.4.1.10; 6.1.10). The present article is dealing with some earliest linguistic traces of the Aryan in the archaic Near Eastern languages such as in Sumerian, Akkadian, Elamite and Egytian.

Abstract:
The article attempts to clarify and analyze the opinions, hypotheses, ideas and assumptions of scientists studying the issues of ancestral home of the Indo-Aryan peoples from the historical, archaeological and linguistic points of view. The Eastern European localization of the ancestral home of the Indo-Aryan peoples in Southeastern Europe and their migration is considered in the article. The territory of Central Asia was occupied by the Iranian nationalities in the beginning of the historical period (VII-VI centuries BC): Bactrians, Sogdians, Khorezmians, Parthians, Saka tribes. The analysis of relict phenomena in the languages and culture of modern population of Central Asia, in particular the population of the Pamirs, shows the presence of an ancient Indo-Aryan layer. In this case, a specific convergence is identified, which is precisely oriented on the ancient Indian tradition. At the same time, even more ancient traces associated with the pre-Indo-Iranian population of Central Asia are revealed. The substrate layer played a huge role in the genesis of the culture, ideology and ethnos of the most ancient Iranian-speaking population of Central Asia. It had a huge impact on the establishment of its social and economic basis.

Abstract:
By a consideration of geography and environment, this essay raises questions about migration, settlement, and state formation in the Ganga plain from the first millenniumbceto the early second millenniumce. It asks why Indo-Aryan speakers continued to migrate from north-western parts of South Asia towards the Ganga plain during the first millenniumbceand precisely what route they followed. To understand better these largely misunderstood historical problems related to migration and settlement, the essay casts doubt on the utility of geographers’ tripartite division of the Ganga plain, proposing instead a division based on aridity and rainfall. Such a division helps explain why the transitional zone between the drier and the more humid areas of the Ganga plain became the linchpin of migratory movements, state formation, and urban development since at least the middle of the first millenniumbce.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTUpon the invasion of the host by microorganisms, innate immunity is triggered through pathogen recognition by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are the best-studied class of PRRs, and they recognize specific pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) from various microorganisms. A large number of studies have shown that genetic variation in TLRs may influence susceptibility to infections. We assessed the genetic variation ofTLR2, which encodes one of the most important TLRs, in various populations around the globe and correlated it with changes in the function of the molecule. The three best-known nonsynonymousTLR2polymorphisms (1892C>A, 2029C>T, and 2258G>A) were assessed in different populations from the main continental masses: Romanians, Vlax-Roma, Dutch (European populations), Han Chinese (East Asia), Dogon, Fulani (Africa), and Trio Indians (America). The 2029C>T polymorphism was absent in both European and non-European populations, with the exception of the Vlax-Roma, suggesting that this polymorphism most likely arose in Indo-Aryan people after migration into South Asia. The 1892C>A polymorphism that was found exclusively in European populations, but not in Asian, African, or American volunteers, probably occurred in proto-Indo-Europeans. Interestingly, 2258G>A was present only in Europeans, including Vlax-Roma, but at a very low frequency. The differential pattern of theTLR2polymorphisms in various populations may explain some of the differences in susceptibility to infections between these populations.

Abstract:
Neem oil, a plant-derived product rich in bioactives, has been incorporated in liposomes and hyalurosomes modified by adding argan oil and so called argan-liposomes and argan-hyalurosomes. Argan oil has also been added to the vesicles because of its regenerative and protective effects on skin. In the light of this, vesicles were specifically tailored to protect the skin from oxidative stress and treat lesions. Argan-liposomes were the smallest vesicles (~113 nm); the addition of sodium hyaluronate led to an increase in vesicle size (~143 nm) but it significantly improved vesicle stability during storage. In vitro studies confirmed the free radical scavenging activity of formulations, irrespective of their composition. Moreover, rheological investigation confirmed the higher viscosity of argan-hyalurosomes, which avoid formulation leakage after application. In vitro studies performed by using the most representative cells of the skin (i.e., keratinocytes and fibroblasts) underlined the ability of vesicles, especially argan-liposomes and argan-hyalurosomes, to counteract oxidative stress induced in these cells by using hydrogen peroxide and to improve the proliferation and migration of cells ensuring the more rapid and even complete closure of the wound (scratch assay).

Abstract:
Migrations have had a role in forming the economies and cultures of practically all countries. Their nature and effects must be studied objectively. In her lecture delivered in October 2020 in memory of Professor Satish Chandra, Professor Romila Thapar discusses the nature and effects of three migrations, distant from each other in time, viz. the Aryan, (second millennium BC), the Kuṣāṇa (early centuries AD) and Arab (tenth century onward). These migrations contributed to both economic change and cultural evolution. These were fundamentally different in nature from migrations accompanying colonial conquests and the forced shifting of people in the colonial era. The current prejudice against migrants, by those who claim this to be an expression of nationalism, should not cloud our judgement of earlier migrations into India and their role in our history and culture

Abstract:
This article considers the Aran jumper as a cultural artefact from an anthropological perspective. As an internationally recognized symbol of Irishness that comes with its own myth of origin, the Aran jumper carries emotionally charged ideas about kinship and nativeness. Whether read as an ID document, family tree, representation of the landscape or reference to Christian or pre-Christian spirituality, the Aran jumper’s stitch patterns seem to invite interpretation. Emerging at a particular period in the relationship between Ireland and America, this garment and the story that accompanies it have been shaped by migration and tourism, but may be understood very differently on either side of the Atlantic. The resilience of the myth of a fisherman lost at sea, whose corpse is identifiable only by designs his relatives have stitched into his clothing, is explained in light of its resonance with diasporic narratives and transnational longings.

Abstract:
Background Hypertension is a rising public health problem in Nepal. Most of the upsurge is attributed to the behavioural and lifestyle transitions. However, the hereditary component such as ethnicity, which may also be an important determinant, has not been studied. Objective This study aims to investigate if ethnicity is a key determinant of having a high blood pressure in the Nepalese population. Methods A population-based cross sectional study was conducted in the Duwakot village of Bhaktapur District, Nepal. Systematic random sampling of the adults was done in all the nine wards. A total of 641 adults of both sexes, of age 35 years or more were included in the analysis. Results Most of the life-style related risk factors were comparable in the broad two ethnic groups- Tibeto-Burmans and Indo-Aryans. The prevalence of hypertension was 25.3% in the Tibeto-Burmans compared to the 14.0% in the Indo-Aryans. Crude odds ratio (95% CI) of being hypertensive for the Tibeto-Burmans compared to the Indo-Aryans was 2.07 (1.36-3.15) (p=0.01). After adjusting for the different factors the adjusted odds ratio (95% CI) for the same was found to be 1.78 (1.12-2.81) (p=0.014). Conclusion There is an ethnic variation in the blood pressure distribution in the Nepalese population, which might be acting independent of the different life-style factors. More elaborate studies, including longitudinal and migration studies, and probably genetic analyses, can provide a more definite answer. Abstract:
Tectonical and development features of the central part of the Volga-Ural anteclise and the Sura-Kama (SK) shear zone are considered in connection with the distribution patterns of oil fields. Based on the geological and structural data, it is found that the SK zone is a deep fault of a heterogeneous structure, which has signs of the long-term multistage development. At the plate stage, the SK zone developed under kinematic inversion and subsequent transpression and transtension deformations. We propose a model showing that during the transtension stages, deformations in the SK zone contributed to the primary migration of hydrocarbons in the Devonian domanic formations and their secondary redistribution. Within the SK zone, permeability was increased, and the zone itself acted as a concentrator of these formations in local decompression structures. Fault structures in the SK zone closed during the transpression stages; their reservoir properties were decreased; and hydrocarbons were squeezed predominantly in the lateral direction along the reservoirs in the area of dynamic unloading. At the eastern termination of the SK zone, the unique Arlan oil field was formed, wherein hydrocarbons were accumulated in conditions of alternating stresses between the sectors compensating shear displacements at the flanks of the zone. The unique Romashkinsky oil field was formed in the apical part of the South Tatar arch during its long-term uplifting and decompression, which contributed to progressive migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons from the transpression sector of SK zone. The proposed structural-dynamic model and ideas about compression – decompression regularities of hydrocarbon redistribution in the shear zones can be used for prediction and detection of new deposits. In particular, the dynamic analogues of the Arlan oil field in the east part of the SK zone can be found within the poorly studied western flank of this zone.

Filmde medyalararası alışverişin sonucunda Özakman’ın tiyatro oyununda kentte ekonomik zorluklar altında dayanışma ruhunu yitirerek çözülen bir ailenin öyküsü, kentteki ekonomik sıkıntılar ve değerler çatışmasıyla birlikte dayanışma ruhunu yitirerek çözülen göçmen bir ailenin dramına dönüşmüştür ve bu dönüşümde Orhan Kemal’in Gurbet Kuşları adlı romanından izler bulunmaktadır.ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHReflection of Internal Migration in Turkey on Art: An Intermedial Look at the Movie Gurbet KuşlarıAs a result of the rapidly increasing internal migration, Turkey faced a series of new problems in 50’s and 60’s. In this period, the realist writers and the directors thinking on the problems internal migration caused wrote literary works and directed films which tackled the problem as a social issue. Halit Refiğ’s 1964 film Gurbet Kuşları is an example of such films. As an adaptation of Turgut Özakman’s 1961 play Ocak and named after Orhan Kemal’s 1962 novel Gurbet Kuşları which is about internal migration, the film has intermedial relations within. As a consequence of the intermedial exchanges in the film, the story of a family dissolved by losing the spirit of solidarity under the harsh economic conditions in the city in Özakman’s play is transformed into a tragedy of an immigrant family dissolved by losing the spirit of solidarity under the harsh economic conditions and by experiencing the clash of values in the city, and this transformation consists of traces from Orhan Kemal’s novel Gurbet Kuşları.

Abstract:
Bulgaristan’dan getirilen ürünlerin bu pazarlarda satılması böyle bir arz talebin hala devam ettiğine işaret etmektedir.ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHThe Diversity in Cuisine Culture of the Immigrants from Bulgaria After 1989 MigrationThe Cuisine culture that has been developing and getting rich day by day contemporaneously in the world before 1989 migration has also had an impact on Bulgarian Turks. By the increase in diversity in the market, eating habits have changed. While producing a limited number of food types with limited opportunities just some 30 or 40 years before the ‘Big Migration’, there has been a rapid progress in food culture by the help of the increase in purchase power. Enhancing product range has been reflected in food, and different tastes have entered the cuisines. When we say immigrant, the first things that come to our mind are pastry, flan and pitta bread. Moreover, it is also known that immigrants have a very rich cuisine culture of pickle, stewed fruit, and canned food. This study aims both to disclose the eating habits of Turks living in different regions of Bulgaria before 1989 and to determine whether there has been a difference in immigrant cuisine culture before and after the migration. For this purpose, a questionnaire consisting of 8 questions has been administered to 50 people who migrated to Turkey in 1989. The results gathered from these data have been compiled and new determinations have been made. In addition, immigrants that settled in different regions of Turkey have set their own immigrant markets. The fact that the products brought from Bulgaria are being sold in these markets shows that this kind of supply and demand still continues.

Abstract:
Mutabakatların hareketliliğe bütüncül yaklaşan dilini ve uluslararası işbirliği çabalarının bir yansıması olmasını oldukça değerli görmekle beraber, hedef kitlenin kırılganlıklarına ve ihtiyaçlarına cevap verme noktasında gelişmeye ihtiyaç duyduğunu düşünmekteyiz.ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHEditorial: Global Migration and Refugee Compacts as an International Response to Mass Population Movements in Conflicts and CrisesThe World increasingly becomes more integrated. In this process, human mobility appears as one of the important elements that affect the process of integration as well as the one that is affected by this integration. This rapid transformation process, which is called globalisation, accelerates human mobility. On the other hand, it also reveals certain compelling reasons for international solidarity in order to develop initiatives that make mobility more regular and manageable as well as are effective to decrease deaths. Yet, the Syrian crisis showed that mobility is a concept that requires international effort; solely regional one is not enough. It is also clear that the focus of planned initiatives should not merely consider target countries; they should be developed by taking vulnerabilities of individuals. At this point, it is quite significant that UN member countries gathered in 2016 to develop a compact which would take refugee and migration questions together as well as to define the responsibilities in the international area. This start finalized with developing Global Migration Compact which contains 23 major goals. Sadly, the Compact deceived some countries’ enthusiasm to be part of it. Yet, we still believe that this initiative will give a new pulse in the field of mobility. Therefore we share the introduction part of this issue to the Global Migration Compact together with Refugee Compact. This analysis will examine Global Migration and Refugee compacts in the framework of conflict and crisis notions and in relation to globalisation. We undertake a critical point of view; therefore we consider expectations from the Compacts and their limits together. It is good to see that the Compacts are a reflection of international solidarity effort and it approaches a holistic understanding toward the mobility. However, we also believe that these Compacts require further developments in order to fully respond to the vulnerabilities and needs of people.

Hometown Associations in Turkey as of 2016Rapid urbanisation and rural-urban development gap as well as neo-liberal and weakened welfare policies give increasing importance to NGOs for their positive impact on socio-economic integration of immigrants and participatory rural transformation. Hometown associations (HTAs), in particular, receive special consideration in the literature. Data on HTAs -considered the new entrepreneurs of rural development- are especially important in Turkey with continuous internal migration. This study presents a literature review of academic research on HTAs in the country and province-level data on the number of these institutions in 2016. Expectedly, HTAs in Turkey are mainly concentrated in cities with highest migrant inflows such as İstanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Highest number of HTAs, however, are established by emigrants from Sivas, Ankara and Erzurum while emigrants from Hakkari, Yalova, Kilis and Şırnak are behind lowest number of HTAs. The presented data also shed light on social capital accumulation of rural-to-urban migrants in the country.

Abstract:
The Negative Effects Of Imported Ornamentals And Pets On Environment Ornamentals improve environment outdoor and contribute our health, prospect and creativity indoor. Open areas and green corners that are planned well have positive impact on cities and their dwellers. Pets and companion animals have important role as friend of human, which can create a special atmosphere for owner, increase social life and help education of kids. Urbanization which has occurred in parallel to migration from rural areas to cities with industrialization era imposed a grey life style surrounded with concrete, glass and pavement. A person who is emigrated from villages himself or his parents tried to fulfill his desire of nature via growing ornamentals and having pets. Turkey has experienced the same cases. Due to the desire of being different, increasing effect of media, and effective marketing technique, new exotic ornamentals and pets have replaced usual common ones. Rising demand to the exotic plants and animals increased import, production, and retail marketing, which can increase the risk on environment due to these creatures. Those species that live in other places than their origins and have negative effect on biodiversity, human activities or health are described as invasive alien species (IAS). Ornamentals and pets escape to wild or release to wild, which can become IAS. There are legal documents and code of conducts in some countries. Unfortunately there are no legal documents enough including quarantine on IAS in Turkey. In order to control IAS, the impact of IAS should be determined nationwide and awareness should be created from policy makers to ordinary citizens. Getting attention on importance and magnitude of IAS problem caused by ornamental plants and animals by using second hand data was aimed in this paper.

Abstract:
Recent archaeological evidence and the comparative method of Indo-European historical linguistics now make it possible to reconstruct the Aryan migrations into India, two separate diffusions of which merge with elements of Harappan religion in Asko Parpola’s The Roots of Hinduism: The Early Aryans and the Indus Civilization (NY: Oxford University Press, 2015).This review of Parpola’s work emphasizes the acculturation of Rigvedic and Atharvavedic traditions as represented in the depiction of Vedic rites and worship of Indra and the Aśvins (Nāsatya). After identifying archaeological cultures prior to the breakup of Proto-Indo-European linguistic unity and demarcating the two branches of the Proto-Aryan community, the role of the Vrātyas leads back to mutual encounters with the Iranian Dāsas.

Abstract:
AbstractBackgroundUse of perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) has been increasingly growing as an adjuvant in vitreo-retina surgeries. Some commonly encountered complications with its use include subretinal migration, formation of sticky silicone oil or retained PFCL in vitreous cavity and anterior chamber. Scleral rupture during PFCL injection has a rare occurrence. We report an unexpected event of scleral rupture during PFCL injection and discuss the management challenges faced by the surgeon.Case presentationA 66 year indo-aryan male was undergoing pars-plana vitrectomy (PPV) with diagnosis of subtotal rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD) with Proliferative Vitreo-retonipathy (PVR)-B. After near total vitrectomy PFCL was being injected and then there was sudden poor visualization of fundus with development of bullous RD and globe hypotony. The surgeon was not able to figure out the cause of hypotony and air was switched on in the infusion cannula. This further complicated the situation resulting in migration of air in the anterior chamber, posterior dislocation of intraocular lens complex, 180° inferior retinal dialysis and ballooning of the conjunctiva which gave a clue of probable scleral rupture. Conjunctival peritomy was performed superiorly and scleral defect was noted. Intraocular tissue incarceration and air leak was visible from the wound. This confirmed scleral rupture during PFCL injection. Repositioning of incarcerated retina was not possible and retinectomy was performed followed by repair of scleral rupture with lots of difficulty in a vitrectomised eye.ConclusionPFCL injection, a crucial step of vitreoretina surgery, should be performed slowly with extreme caution maintaining an optimal intraocular pressure to prevent devastating complications like scleral rupture.

Abstract:
The article investigates the evolution of gender in the Iranian languages. Special attention is given to the study of West and East Iranian languages in the historical perspective. On the basis of a wide range of various linguistic data the generalities and peculiarities of the grammar of Iranian languages, especially the category of gender, are described and characterized in detail. Iranian linguistic group belongs to the family of Indo-European languages, which are currently spoken on a vast territory. The most numerous branch of this family is Indo-Iranian, which includes Indo-Aryan and Iranian languages. Their separation began with the migrations of the ancestors of modern Indo- Aryans to Northwest India. The history of Iranian-speaking tribes and peoples, who in the past lived on the geography stretching from the shores of Black sea in the west to the borders of China in the east and from the southern Urals in the north to the shores of the Persian Gulf and India in the south, covers a vast period of time — from the II millennium BC up to the present day. The dialects of many tribes by the turn of the new era still retained a significant degree of initial community, inherited from the ancient Iranian source language close to Avestan.

"5.M. Workshop: Sexual minorities' mental health and their experiences of stigma and minority stress across settings." European Journal of Public Health 30, Supplement_5 (September 1, 2020). http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/eurpub/ckaa165.278.

Abstract:
Abstract Over the past decades, public health research has started to examine the higher risk of mental health concerns among sexual minorities (e.g., lesbian, gay, or bisexual individuals) when compared with heterosexual individuals. Until more recently, most of this research has been coming from North America and focused on theories of stigma and minority stress in their attempt to explain these elevated rates of mental health problems. Minority stress theory posit stigma to be a root cause of the higher risk of mental health problems among sexual minorities and that stigma results in victimization, discrimination, internalized homonegativity, and identity concealment, which erodes mental health. Exposure to such minority stressors may differ across structural climates, based on population attitudes, discriminatory legislation, and unequal policies. In this way, such structural forms of stigma toward sexual minorities may foster increased exposure to minority stressors and elevated levels of mental health problems among sexual minorities. However, the evidence on these mechanisms remains limited as they have only recently become a topic of research. This workshop includes five empirical presentations from various structural contexts. It focuses on the elevated risk of mental health problems among sexual minorities across these settings, on identifying minority stressors in high-stigma countries, and on linking country-level structural stigma to experiences of minority stressors to explain poor mental health among sexual minorities. First, Michal Pitonak will present results from the first Czech population-based study showing higher rates of substance use, psychological distress, and low life satisfaction among sexual minorities compared to heterosexual individuals. Second, Giuseppina Lo Moro will present results from Italy showing a higher likelihood of depressive symptoms and mental health treatment among sexual minority medical students compared to their heterosexual peers. Next, Guillermo Martínez-Pérez will present findings on experiences of minority stress among Senegalese bisexual men and linkages to mental health. Finally, Arjan van der Star will extend these findings with data showing how the mental health effects of structural stigma and minority stress may be related to time both before and since migrating among migrant sexual minority men in the low-structural-stigma context of Sweden. Key messages Sexual minorities across the globe are at an increased risk for mental health problems and stigma-based minority stress experiences compared with heterosexual individuals. Structural forms of stigma, such as country-specific negative societal attitudes and discriminatory laws, may drive this elevated risk depending on length of exposure.
