Abstract:
Abstract: Many medieval Irish saints’ lives contain accounts of ascension that strongly evoke Old-Testament ascensions and the New-Testament Ascension of Christ. This paper argues that the Irish hagiographers had a formulaic ascension-narrative in mind which involved predictable elements. The word ascensio is often avoided, probably to sidestep theological issues. The revision by Manus O’Donnell of Adomnán’s late seventh-century life of Colmcille suggests that use of Ascension motif in saints ’lives was still common in the sixteenth century.

Abstract:
The azimuth of a meridian circle may be determined using stars within 1°–2° of the pole combining observations in upper and lower culmination of stars which have well known right ascensions. The right ascensions are determined photographically using only declinations in the reduction, thus making the azimuth determination independent of the right ascension system. The declinations of the pole near stars are determined with the meridian circle.

Abstract:
Recent studies have improved our understanding of nearshore marine ecosystems surrounding Ascension Island (central Atlantic Ocean), but little is known about Ascension's benthic environment beyond its shallow coastal waters. Here, we report the first detailed physical and biological examination of the seabed surrounding Ascension Island at 100–1000 m depth. Multibeam swath data were used to map fine scale bathymetry and derive seabed slope and rugosity indices for the entire area. Water temperature and salinity profiles were obtained from five Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) deployment

AbstractStandard precession theory builds up the precession matrix P, which rotates coordinates from the mean equator and equinox of epoch to the mean equator and equinox of date, by a sequence of three elementary rotations by the accumulated Euler angles ϚA, θA and zA: P = R3(−zA)R2(θA)R3(−ϚA). This scheme works well provided both the epoch and the date are within a few centuries of J2000. For long-term applications, the alternative formulation using the accumulated luni-solar and planetary precession, P = R3(ᵡA)R1(−ѡA)R3(−ψA)R1(ɛ), is more stable.Yet another formulation for P is possible, us

Abstract Northeast China (NEC) is one of the major agricultural production areas in China, producing about 30% of China’s total maize output. In the past five decades, maize yields in NEC increased rapidly. However, farmer yields still have potential to be increased. Therefore, it is important to quantify the impacts of agronomic factors, including soil physical properties, cultivar selections, and management practices on yield gaps of maize under the changing climate in NEC in order to provide reliable recommendations to narrow down the yield gaps. In this study, the Agricultural Production S
