This paper analyses the determinants of trade flows between the countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). The results show that while the high intensity of bilateral trade of these countries is not explained by high complementarity, a policy of non discriminatory import liberalization in ASEAN countries would significantly benefit the SAARC countries in terms of export expansion.

The paper investigates the effect of prudential policies on sovereign bond vulnerability to global spillover risk in ASEAN-4 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand). Using a risk network among sovereign bonds, the direct effect is that markets with tighter prudential policies have significantly smaller spillovers from the Treasury yield shocks of other regional and global economies. Abstract:
ASEAN’s economic ties with China have proven to be more crisisproof than merchandise trade and direct investment flows with the rest of the world. Before the pandemic, China had continuously increased its share in the economic relations of Southeast Asia, and this trend seems to have continued in the COVID era as well. In 2020 the region’s trade deficit with China decreased, while China’s share in both ASEAN export and import climbed. This paper seeks to examine the implication of open skies in ASEAN on the airport development strategy in Malaysia. "Open Skies," in general, refers to the liberalization of aviation markets that can be pursued on a bilateral, regional, or multilateral basis.
