Due to the impacts of carbon emissions on climate change and the expected dramatic increase in global cooling demand by 2050, it is of a paramount importance that the required energy to cool buildings is accurately predicted. This ensures that equipment is appropriately sized, which ultimately reduces energy consumption and global carbon emissions. CIBSE and ASHRAE standards are both widely adopted for cooling load predictions, but they adopt different calculation methods, with CIBSE adopting admittance and ASHRAE adopting radiant time series (RTS), which produce significantly different result

An intermediate single storey terrace house was chosen as a case study and indoor thermal condition measurements were recorded for three days. The indoor ambient temperature, relative humidity and air speed were measured using on-site monitoring equipment to evaluate the thermal performance of this house. A questionnaire survey was also conducted involving all occupants to determine their thermal comfort perception of the same case study house. The

Abstract Fieldwork took place in naturally ventilated public primary schools in Imo State, Nigeria to find the upper limit of acceptable temperature. The period of the survey was from October 2017 to May 2018, where objective and subjective data were collected. Results of the fieldwork of the 330 surveyed children (aged 7-12 years) revealed that the upper limit temperature derived from their responses corresponding to mean thermal sensations of +0.85 is 31.6°C for the combined classrooms. This is about 4.9°C higher than the ASHRAE upper 80% acceptability limit. Furthermore, the maximum tempera

This paper deals with an experimental and numerical analysis conducted in a full-scale test room located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Technology. The experiments and CFD were conducted for analyzing ventilation performance. It is a study on the effect of the discharge airflow rate of the ceiling type air-conditioner on ventilation performance in the lecture room with the mixing ventilation. Most obtained findings show that database and questionnaires analyzed prefer heights between 0.2 m to

Recent evidence available in the literature has highlighted that the high-energy consumption rate associated with air conditioning leads to the undesired “overcooling” condition in arid-climate regions. To this end, this study quantified the effects of increasing the cooling setpoint temperature on reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions to mitigate overcooling. DesignBuilder software was used to simulate the performance of a generic building operating under the currently adopted ASHRAE HVAC criteria. It was found that increasing the cooling setpoint temperature by 1 °C will increase the

A mechanical ventilator known as a turbine ventilator harnesses the wind to supply natural ventilation. Due to their high performance and cheap running costs, these devices are increasingly being used to ventilate areas. This study evaluated the impact of a modified turbine ventilator system on thermal comfort and airflow inside a room. The results showed that the natural ventilation system failed to meet the ASHRAE Standard 55-2020 for thermal comfort. The installation of a turbine ventilator decreases the temperature by 1.3°C but still did not meet the standards. The modified turbine ventila
