Abstract:
In an effort to determine the metabolic changes that occur in fatty acid oxidation during the rapid growth period, the activity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase was measured in four groups of animals at 4, 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age.Muscle samples were taken from the soleus after animals were anesthesi2ed, and the samples were assayed for CPT activity. The CPT activity was significantly higher at 4 weeks than at 8, 12 and 16 weeks (p0.0001), and the fl week activity was significantly higher that the 16 week animals. It was found that there were two distinct phases of decline in CPT activity. T

Abstract:
The socio-economic challenges caused by ageing populations, are encouraging many countries to re-evaluate the place of older people in society and to adopt measures to encourage active ageing. Brazil and the UK will have similar proportions of people aged 60 or over as a percentage of the total population by 2050. As a consequence of this, changes to retirement policies in the UK and Brazil, aim to make the welfare system more financially sustainable. It is therefore relevant to study the retirement patterns of occupational groups where their members hold specialised skills, knowledge and have

A literature review has highlighted the need for domain specific and sport specific psychological skills research, from countries outside the United States of America. The Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-28 (ACSI-28) was administered to professional (n=60) and social (n=67) basketball players. This research project sets out to explore, analyse and theorise the way district nurses and social care workers construe their identity, and their relationships within the changing context of collaborative projects. Unlike previous research in this field, this project offers an alternative, relational view of exploring professional identities and inter-professional relationships. The research adopted a constructivist phenomenological approach drawing upon the theories of personal construct psychology (Kelly, 1955) and existential phenomenology (Merleau Ponty, 1962), as elaborated by Butt (2004

Abstract:
Playing professional football is a high risk occupation. Injury rates among professional footballers are higher than those commonly found in other industries. Several Scandinavian studies have begun to document the long-term physical health problems, such as osteoarthritis (OA), that can beset ex-professional footballers. However, the experiences of ex-professional footballers playing and living in the United Kingdom (UK) have not received similar academic attention. Furthermore, no studies have investigated the impact that OA has on the quality of life of former players anywhere in the world.
