Abstract:
Aspiration levels play an important role in everyday decision making. In practice, however, decisions are not based on an aspiration level alone. The aspiration level and the overall probabilities of success and failure may receive special attention, but subjects will not be completely insensitive to difference within the classes of gains and losses. Aspirations have a significant impact on pupil attainment net of family background and other individual factors, but their effect is reduced when examining pupil progression. Some students, particularly from low-income or first-generation backgrounds, in spite of having high aspirations fail to meet their goals to attend college. Aspiration is a strong desire to achieve something in life. Every people they want to be successful man in life, they want famous, popular in society, so aspiration has vague meaning and sense. In this research student of Nepal they have high aspiration in life. Some of they want social worker, doctor, pilot engineer, great motivator and great leader in future. The study was conducted among the 511 students of grade ten students of three districts of Nepal.

Abstract:
Career aspiration is one of the factors that influence one's career maturity. Career aspirations direct individual behavior to achieve the career that is their hopes or dreams. Career aspirations can help students choose a secondary school that matches the abilities and potentials of the individual. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in career aspirations of high school students with Minangkabau and Chinese cultural backgrounds. This research uses a comparative descriptive quantitative approach. The population in this study were students of class XI and XII who have Minangkabau and Chinese cultural backgrounds at SMA Negeri 1 Padang and SMA Don Bosco Padang. The research sample was 295 students consisting of 173 Minangkabau students (79 male & 94 female) and 122 Chinese students (64 male and 58 female). The instrument used was the Career Aspiration Level Entry List (DITAK). The measuring instrument used is valid and the reliability coefficient of DITAK is 0.86. Based on the results of the study, there are differences in the level of career aspirations of high school students with Minangkabau and Chinese cultural backgrounds, where the level of career aspirations of Chinese students is higher than that of Minangkabau students. The implication of the results of this study is as discussion material and input for the school in making guidance and counseling service programs, especially in the field of career development.

Abstract:
Effects of success, failure, and a monetary payoff on the level of aspiration of American Indian and white adolescents were studied. Race, sex, grade, self-esteem, and locus of control were considered as potential mediating variables. A significant decrease in level of aspiration followed failure; the effect was more pronounced at the junior high level. Success led to a higher level of aspiration for adolescents with low self-esteem as did a monetary payoff. Implications of these results are discussed.

Abstract:
Mathematics low achievement has undeniably been found in both national examinations and international assessments. An educator needs to be aware and determine the factors in students’ achievement. However, there were no observable studies focusing on the mediating effect of students' attitudes toward career aspiration and academic achievement. With this, it aims to determine the mediating effect of students’ attitudes on students’ career aspirations and academic achievement in learning Mathematics in a higher educational institution in the Davao Region. The researcher utilized sets of adopted and self-made test questionnaires to gather data from the 199 respondents. In analyzing the data, the researcher performed descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, and Regression Analysis as statistical tools. These analyses indicated that students have a high level of career aspiration, a satisfactory level of academic achievement, an average level of attitude towards mathematics, and an insignificant relationship between students’ career aspirations and academic achievement. The relationship between the student’s attitude and career aspiration is significant. The latter is the only relationship that is significant among all steps, and thus full and partial mediation analysis will not be warranted. Based on the findings, the students must be responsible for helping themselves to make an efficient move in developing their aspiration to have a considerable positive attitude in learning mathematics.

Abstract:
We examined Chinese adolescents’ aspirations and explored the relationship between relative intrinsic aspirations (RIA) and prosocial behaviors and whether adolescents with different levels of RIA have different emphases on self- and other-oriented considerations during prosocial decision making. In Study 1, 236 participants were recruited and completed a questionnaire containing the Aspiration Index and Prosocial Tendencies Measure. The results show that RIA are positively associated with adolescents’ prosocial behaviors. In Study 2, 158 adolescents completed a questionnaire containing the Aspiration Index and measurements of prosocial decision making and considerations in prosocial decision making. To some extent, adolescents with a lower level of RIA have a greater emphasis on self-oriented considerations, whereas adolescents with a higher level of RIA have a greater emphasis on other-oriented considerations. In addition, both studies suggest that Chinese adolescents value intrinsic aspirations above extrinsic ones.

Abstract:
We examine the strength and nature of firm aspiration and expectation as strategic mediators in the association of risk antecedents and firm risk, after exploring the possible impact of such antecedents on firm aspiration, and firm aspiration’s preliminary influence on firm risk. Empirical literature is mostly silent about risk antecedents of firms in an emerging market or cross-country context, and to the best of our knowledge, the mediators proposed in this study are yet to be explored. We report strong significant positive mediating effects of firm aspiration and expectation in association of risk antecedents and firm risk. Our results also validate that all studied risk antecedents, except corporate governance- composition, significantly influence aspiration and expectation mediators and firm risk in line with our hypotheses. Our results also hold true after controlling for firm-level and country-level heterogeneities and conducting two additional robustness tests.

Abstract:
This article studies how educational aspirations of children are shaped in Biblián, Ecuador, a traditional sending country. Data sources were a multi-level survey and semi-structured interviews that were analysed using logistic regression and thematic analysis, respectively. Several theoretical relationships are confirmed: the household socioeconomic status, caregiver’s educational aspirations and age are the most important variables that predict children educational aspirations. Child migratory dreams and the absence of the father or the mother only predict the educational aspiration of getting a high school degree, but do not predict the aspiration of a graduate degree. Thematic analysis suggests that, besides seeing education as a means to have higher incomes, mothers perceive it as a sign of social status and assign it an intrinsic value.

Abstract:
In models of aspiration-based reinforcement learning, agents adapt by comparing payoffs achieved from actions chosen in the past with an aspiration level. Though such models are well-established in behavioural psychology, only recently have they begun to receive attention in game theory and its applications to economics and politics. This paper provides an informal overview of a range of such theories applied to repeated interaction games. We describe different models of aspiration formation: where (1) aspirations are fixed but required to be consistent with longrun average payoffs; (2) aspirations evolve based on past personal experience or of previous generations of players; and (3) aspirations are based on the experience of peers. Convergence to non-Nash outcomes may result in either of these formulations. Indeed, cooperative behaviour can emerge and survive in the long run, even though it may be a strictly dominated strategy in the stage game, and despite the myopic adaptation of stage game strategies. Differences between reinforcement learning and evolutionary game theory are also discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract When a terrorist group’s aspirations far exceed the outcomes that can be expected to result from any of the available attack methods, an outcome below the terrorist group’s aspiration level is inevitable. A primary prediction of SP/A theory when applied to the study of terrorist behaviour is that when losses are inevitable the terrorist group will be risk averse and inclined to defer further action until expected outcomes improve, new attack method innovations are developed or the memory of the event that shaped aspirations has faded sufficiently that the aspiration level can be ‘reset’. This complements existing predictions of loss aversion and risk seeking behaviour over the domain of avoidable losses and provides a starting point for developing explanations for patterns of behaviour that are observed in the terrorism context, including pauses in violence, even during brutality contests, and time-lags between terrorist attacks.

Abstract:
The level of aspiration and performance was examined for 25 male psychiatric inpatients whose mean age was 57.4 yr. and mean length of hospitalization was 23–6 yr. For a simple motor task involving flipping a plastic chip over a goal line, each patient expressed the ward and his personal pretask levels of aspiration, performed the task, and expressed his personal posttask aspiration. The expressions of both the ward and pretask levels of aspiration were less than the mean score of a nonhospitalized referent group. Both performance and posttask levels of aspiration were greater than the pretask level. More patients predicted they would perform worse than the other patients on the ward than predicted they would perform better. The patients appropriately shifted their levels of aspiration either up after success or down after failure. The results were discussed according to expectations from classical theory as well as findings with schizophrenics. Implications for further research were discussed.

Abstract:
Career apathy is very important to support the future / career of students, because it is a demand in life. Career aspiration is an individual orientation towards the desired career goals according to the desired conditions or expectations. One of the factors that influence an individual's career orientation is gender. Problems related to gender or gender greatly affect the achievement of individual career goals, namely in men and women. This research attempts to see the description of career aspiration level of students of gender variables. This study aims to reveal and describe differences in the level of career aspirations of students in terms of gender. The type of research used is descriptive comparative. The hypothesis tested in this study is "There are differences in the level of career aspirations of students in terms of male and female sex". The findings of this study reveal that career aspirations of male and female students are both high-categorized, but there are differences in some indicators. it is hoped that the results of this research can be a guideline for BK teachers in schools in designing career guidance programs for students, as well as to enrich the repertoire of scholarship related to individual career development.

Abstract:
Level of aspiration was studied as a function of performance on the first part of a concept-formation task and as a predictor of performance on later trials of that same task. 76 college students (54 women and 22 men) were asked to make a prediction as to how many trials they would answer correctly on the second part after completing the first part. It was hypothesized that (1) subjects who perform better on the first part set higher levels of aspiration, (2) high predictors perform better on the second part, and (3) subjects with higher grade point averages make higher predictions than those with lower GPAs. Subjects scoring higher on the first part did set higher levels of aspiration, but high predictors did not perform better on the second part of the task. Grade point average was not related to level of aspiration or to actual performance on the task.

Abstract:
This study investigates whether and how the impact of drivers of aspiration levels changes across the cases of consistent and inconsistent performance feedback within the context of a retailer. Analysis of internal corporate data shows that while past aspiration level and performance–aspiration gap positively influence the current aspiration level in the case of inconsistent feedback, performance feedback consistency changes only the impact of performance relative to peers. This study replicates past research in a different industry and country due to limited empirical evidence, introduces real-world complexity into aspiration theory, pinpoints performance–aspiration gap as the primary performance feedback, introduces a new sign for the impact of performance relative to peers, and reconciles its previously detected mixed impact. The findings suggest that organizational attention has an inward focus in the case of inconsistent feedback. The results also point out that leaders can trigger change through a performance outcome that lags behind the corresponding aspiration level rather than the performance of peers and eventually move their organizations toward high performance targets by starting with feasible rather than stretch goals.

Abstract:
The current study examines whether performance discrepancy from the aspiration level affects corporate tax avoidance. Prior studies show that performance discrepancies from the aspiration level significantly affect firms' behavior; thus, it is important to examine whether such discrepancies affect corporate tax avoidance. Based on the behavioral theory of the firm (BTOF), this study posits that firms performing below the aspiration levels avoid more taxes in the subsequent period than other firms. Empirical findings using data from a sample of U.S. firms for the period covering 1993-2016 support the hypothesis. The findings also show that, while there is a difference among firms meeting or beating the aspiration level, there is no statistically significant difference in tax avoidance level among firms performing short of their aspiration level. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing additional evidence extending the scope of literature in BTOF and tax avoidance areas.

Abstract:
The diagnosis and management of peripheral lymph node tuberculosis remains a major problem in most of the developing countries. We retrieved 584 cases of tuberculous lymphadenitis from a total 1124 lymphnode aspirations done over a period of 3 years (1995–1998). Overall acid-fast bacillus positivity was 37.4%, being highest in the cases in which purulent material was aspirated. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) of tuberculous lymphadenopathy provided a high level of diagnostic accuracy as shown by 1.7% false negative and a zero false positive rate. FNA is reliable as an initial evaluating procedure for diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis making it suitable for wider application in developing countries with scant resources.

Abstract:
This paper explores and discusses the root causes of dropout in an ethnic community in Nepal and then suggests of mandating technical and vocational education in secondary level education as one of the solutions that increases both efficiency and output of education system. In doing so, I carried out an ethnographic research as the part of my Ph.D, in ethnic community of Tamang people in one rural areas of Kathmandu district. I applied prolong field observation and in depth interview to explore their perception regarding school education. I came with the understanding that people had very low level of aspiration from existing school education. People were experienced only two roles of education in their life. First, many community people perceived role of education for them was nothing more than getting literacy skills: read and calculate. Second, some other people thought that school education was useful to increase the little hope of getting the low level of job. However having simply the school level certificate had no guarantee of getting a job. It needed to have a good network or to bribe the people who were in power. In order to materialize these two aspirations, grade 8 was enough so they were not bothered for completing school level education. However a very few community people considered school education as a foundation for higher education to lead to gain power, prestige and property. In this regard, I argue that mandating technical and vocational education in secondary level education that helps not only to fulfill the basic aim of education of developing employability among school graduates but also enhance the efficiency and outcome of school education system.

Abstract:
This study analyzed administrative content areas prioritized according to competence and aspiration by midmanagement (principal) interns over an eight-year period of time as they completed administrative certification programs. As part of the internship program, separate prioritizations on entry-level competencies and future professional aspirations were correlated to determine needed areas of emphasis for students’ field experiences. The long-term study of these prioritizations provided an analysis that held important implications for those involved with the design and implementation of field-based training components for future campus level administrators.

Abstract:
The experiments discussed here are aimed at determining whether risk perception and risk acceptance are two distinct psychological processes. This study is motivated by the idea of a double‐criterion model of choice. In particular, in line with risk‐value (R‐V) models, in which risk is treated as a primitive, it is tested whether risk is independent of aspirations and whether preferences depend on aspirations. In two experiments, 305 university students were presented with pairs of risky projects and were asked to compare their riskiness and select one. The aspiration level, defined as the target return on the project, was set through an explicit instruction. In Experiment 1, a within‐subject design was applied, and thus aspirations were set at two different levels. In Experiment 2, with a between‐subject design, two different aspiration levels were set for each group. The results indicate that risk ordering is insensitive to changes in aspirations, but preferences are sensitive to those changes. This supports distinctness of risk perception and risk acceptance. The findings are discussed in terms of the CPT and SP/A models and the R‐V approach. It appears that double‐criterion models provide better and psychologically sounder predictions of subjects' preferences.

Consumers' choice is often influenced by numerous reference points, such as the consumers' aspiration for product quality. In this study, the effect of such aspiration in compromise was investigated. Two experiments with 722 participants (309 men and 413 women) indicated that, when the quality of a product was below participants' aspiration level, the compromise effect decreased.

Abstract:
AbstractObjective:To review foreign body aspiration cases encountered over a 10-year period in a tertiary paediatric hospital, and to assess correlation between foreign body type and language spoken at home.Study design and method:Retrospective chart review of all children undergoing direct laryngobronchoscopy for foreign body aspiration over a 10-year period. Age, sex, foreign body type, complications, hospital stay and home language were analysed. Results:At direct laryngobronchoscopy, 132 children had foreign body aspiration (male:female ratio 1.31:1; mean age 32 months (2.67 years)). Mean hospital stay was 2.0 days. Foreign bodies most commonly comprised food matter (53/132; 40.1 per cent), followed by non-food matter (44/132; 33.33 per cent), a negative endoscopy (11/132; 8.33 per cent) and unknown composition (24/132; 18.2 per cent). Most parents spoke English (92/132, 69.7 per cent; vs non-English-speaking 40/132, 30.3 per cent), but non-English-speaking patients had disproportionately more food foreign bodies, and significantly more nut aspirations (p = 0.0065). Results constitute level 2b evidence. Conclusion:Patients from non-English speaking backgrounds had a significantly higher incidence of food (particularly nut) aspiration. Awareness-raising and public education is needed in relevant communities to prevent certain foods, particularly nuts, being given to children too young to chew and swallow them adequately.

Abstract:
The role of gastroesophageal reflux and micro-aspiration as a trigger of airways hyperresponsiveness (AHR) in patients with asthma is controversial. The role of acid reflux and aspiration as a direct cause of AHR in normal subjects is also unclear. We speculated that aspiration of a weak acid with a pH (1.8) equivalent to the upper range of typical gastric contents would lead to AHR in naive mice. We further speculated that modest reductions in aspirate acidity to a level expected during gastric acid suppression therapy (pH 4.0) would impede aspiration-induced AHR. BALB/c female mice were briefly anesthetized with isoflurane and allowed to aspirate 75 μl of saline with HCl (pH 1.8, 4.0, or 7.4) or underwent sham aspiration. Mice were re-anesthetized 2 or 24 h later, underwent tracheostomy, and were coupled to a mechanical ventilator. Forced oscillations were used to periodically measure respiratory impedance (Zrs) following aerosol delivery of saline and increasing doses of methacholine to measure for AHR. Values for elastance ( H), airways resistance (RN), and tissue damping ( G) were derived from Zrs. Aspirate pH of 1.8 led to a significant overall increase in peak RN, G, and H compared with pH 4.0 and 7.4 at 2 and 24 h. Differences between pH 7.4 and 4.0 were not significant. In mice aspirating pH 1.8 compared with controls, airway lavage fluid contained more neutrophils, higher protein, and demonstrated higher permeability. We conclude that acid aspiration triggers an acute AHR, driven principally by breakdown of epithelial barrier integrity within the airways.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTIn patients infected with the fungusAspergillus fumigatus, Th1 responses are considered protective, while Th2 responses are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. How host-pathogen interactions influence the development of these protective or detrimental immune responses is not clear. We compared lung immune responses to conidia from two fungal isolates that expressed different levels of the fungal cell wall component chitin. We observed that repeated aspirations of the high-chitin-expressing isolate Af5517 induced increased airway eosinophilia in the lungs of recipient mice compared to the level of eosinophilia induced by isolate Af293. CD4+T cells in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of Af5517-aspirated mice displayed decreased gamma interferon secretion and increased interleukin-4 transcription. In addition, repeated aspirations of Af5517 induced lung transcription of the Th2-associated chemokines CCL11 (eotaxin-1) and CCL22 (macrophage-derived chemokine). Eosinophil recruitment in response to conidial aspiration was correlated with the level of chitin exposure during germination and was decreased by constitutive lung chitinase expression. Moreover, eosinophil-deficient mice subjected to multiple aspirations of Af5517 prior to neutrophil depletion and infection exhibited decreased morbidity and fungal burden compared to the levels of morbidity and fungal burden found in wild-type mice. These results suggest that exposure of chitin in germinating conidia promotes eosinophil recruitment and ultimately induces Th2-skewed immune responses after repeated aspiration. Furthermore, our results suggest that eosinophils should be examined as a potential therapeutic target in patients that mount poorly protective Th2 responses toA. fumigatusinfection.
