Les coraux constructeurs de récifs, sont à la fois autotrophes (ils vivent en symbiose avec des microalgues de la famille des Symbiodiniaceae) et hétérotrophes, c’est à dire qu’ils sont capables de se nourrir sur une gamme de proies allant de la matière organique dissoute, au plancton. Les récifs coralliens sont menacés par le réchauffement climatique, qui perturbe la symbiose entre les coraux et leurs symbiontes, entraînant un blanchissement massif des coraux. Les diazotrophes planctoniques, capables de fixer le diazote (N2) atmosphérique en azote (N) biodisponible (l’ammonium, NH4+), et de transférer cet N Dérivé de la Diazotrophie (appelé DDN) le long du réseau trophique, pourraient constituer une source alternative de nutriments pour les coraux. Seule une étude préliminaire a montré qu’une espèce corallienne pouvait se nourrir sur ces diazotrophes planctoniques (Benavides et al., 2016). Des diazotrophes symbiotiques vivent également en association avec les coraux et leurs transfèrent aussi du DDN. Dans le contexte du changement climatique, où les coraux sont menacés à la fois par l’acidification (AO) et le réchauffement des océans, ce travail se propose d’étudier le rôle de la diazotrophie planctonique et symbiotique dans l’acquisition d’N par les coraux et dans leur résistance/résilience à ces changements. (i) Dans un premier temps, nous avons déterminé les quantités d’N apportées par l’ingestion de diazotrophes planctoniques et symbiotiques au sein de trois espèces coralliennes. Nos résultats ont révélé que l’apport d’N par l’ingestion de diazotrophes planctoniques était répandu chez les coraux et que les taux d’assimilation par cette voie étaient mille fois plus importants que ceux obtenus par les diazotrophes symbiotiques. (ii) Nous avons également montré que des coraux blanchis étaient capables d’augmenter leur consommation de plancton diazotrophe mais également d’augmenter plus spécifiquement leur ingestion de Synechococcus. (iii) Une expérience menée in situ, sur des coraux se développant dans des résurgences naturelles de CO2 en Papouasie-Nouvelle Guinée, où la pCO2 est proche de celle prévue d’ici la fin du siècle, nous a permis de démontrer que les taux d'assimilation de DDN étaient plus élevés que dans le site contrôle, avec une communauté de diazotrophes spécifique à ce site, les Alphaprotéobactéries. (iv) Enfin, nous avons quantifié en laboratoire, les effets d’un stress de température sur les principaux paramètres physiologiques de coraux non nourris, ou nourris exclusivement avec des diazotrophes planctoniques. Ces coraux bénéficiant d’un apport en DDN par le plancton diazotrophe seraient plus résistants au blanchissement. Ils conservent davantage leurs Symbiodiniaceae et maintiennent leurs taux de croissance et de transfert d’électrons. Étant donné la forte abondance de picoplancton dans les eaux des lagons oligotrophes, nos résultats suggèrent que les coraux, capables d'ajuster la communauté de leur diazotrophes symbiotiques, et d'exploiter les sources de plancton riches en N, seraient plus résistants face au réchauffement climatique et à l’AO<br>Reef building corals are both autotroph (they live in symbiosis with intracellular dinoflagellate of the Symbiodiniaceae family, which provide them with photosynthates) and heterotroph, they are able to feed on a wide range of prey from organic matter to plankton. Coral reefs are threatened by global warming, which disrupts the symbiosis between corals and their symbionts, leading to mass coral bleaching. Planktonic diazotrophs, which have the particularity of fixing the atmospheric dinitrogen (N2) and transferring this diazotroph-derived nitrogen (N) (called DDN) along the food web, could be an alternative nutrient source for corals. Only a preliminary study has shown that one coral species could feed on planktonic diazotrophs (Benavides et al., 2016). Symbiotic diazotrophs also live in association with corals and transfer them some DDN. In the context of climate change, where corals are threatened by both acidification (OA) and ocean warming, this work proposes to study the role of planktonic and symbiotic diazotrophs in N acquisition by corals and in their resistance/resilience to these changes. (i) First, we quantified DDN assimilation rates through heterotrophic nutrition of diazotrophs and symbiotic diazotrophs. Our results reveal the importance of N intake through heterotrophy on planktonic diazotrophs as N assimilation rates through this way were a thousand times higher than those obtained via endosymbiotic diazotrophs. (ii) We also showed for the first time that thermally stressed corals are able to increase not only their consumption of planktonic diazotrophs and plankton that likely benefited from N2 fixation, but also more specifically their ingestion of a very specific taxonomic group of picoplankton : the ubiquitous marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus. (iii) An experiment conducted in situ, on corals growing in natural CO2 vents in Ambitle (Papua New Guinea), where the pCO2 is close to that expected by the end of the century, allowed us to demonstrate that DDN assimilation rates in the Symbiodiniaceae were significantly higher in comparison to an ambient CO2 site, concomitant with a restructured diazotroph community and the particular prevalence of Alphaproteobacteria. (iv) Finally, in laboratory conditions, we have quantified the effects of temperature stress on corals fed exclusively with planktonic diazotrophs. Corals benefiting from DDN supplied by diazotrophic plankton, would be more resistant to bleaching, they retain more of their Symbiodiniaceae and maintain their growth and electron transfer rates (in Photosystem II, ETR) compared to unfed corals. Given the high abundance of picoplankton in oligotrophic waters at large, our results suggest that corals capable of adjusting their diazotrophic communities and exploiting N-rich picoplankton sources to offset their increased N requirements, may be able to cope better with OA and global warming

This study explores the viability of parameter estimation in the comprehensive general circulation model ECHAM6 using ensemble Kalman filter data assimilation techniques. Four closure parameters of the cumulus-convection scheme are estimated using increasingly less idealized scenarios ranging from perfect-model experiments to the assimilation of conventional observations. Updated parameter values from experiments with real observations are used to assess the error of the model state on short 6 h forecasts and on climatological timescales. All parameters converge to their default values in single parameter perfect-model experiments. Estimating parameters simultaneously has a neutral effect on the success of the parameter estimation, but applying an imperfect model deteriorates the assimilation performance. With real observations, single parameter estimation generates the default parameter value in one case, converges to different parameter values in two cases, and diverges in the fourth case. The implementation of the two converging parameters influences the model state: Although the estimated parameter values lead to an overall error reduction on short timescales, the error of the model state increases on climatological timescales.

The thesis is aimed at understanding of molecular mechanisms of autophagic degradation of peroxisomes (pexophagy) in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica. This microorganism has been extensively used to explore peroxisome biogenesis (Titorenko and Rachubinski, 2000). Gunkel et al. (1999) intoduced Y. lypolitica into pexophagy studies. However, the field of pexophagic research on this yeast remains quite unexplored. This work involved following tasks: (1) the development and optimization of Y. lipolytica as a model system to study peroxisome degradation; (2) Y. lipolytica genes and proteins implicated in pexophagy should be found and characterized; (3) a proper easy-to-handle selection procedure to isolate novel peroxisome degradation-deficient(pdd) mutants of Y. lipolytica should be devised.

GPS integrated Total Electron Content measurements received at the ground or in space are used for tomographic reconstruction of the ionospheric electron density distribution. The IRI/GCPM model is used as initialisation of the tomographic MART algorithm. During the procedure GPS TEC data are iteratively assimilated to the model. To test the potential of the reconstruction, electron density profiles from IRI/GCPM and the assimilation are compared with ionosonde measurements and CHAMP radio occultation profiles for dates during the HIRAC campaign in April 2001. All profiling methods show electron density values of similar magnitude. It is shown that including TEC GPS data corrects the model towards the ionosonde measurements.<br>Integrale Messungen der Elektronendichte aus GPS-Boden- sowie Radio-Okkultations-Messungen bilden die Datenbasis der hier vorgestellten 3-dimensionalen Tomographie der ionosphärischen Elektronendichteverteilung. Zur Initialisierung des verwendeten iterativen MART Algorithmus wird das IRI/GCPM Modell verwendet, wobei das Modell während der Iteration sukzessiv an die Messdaten angepasst wird. Um das Potential des Verfahrens abzuschätzen, werden Elektronendichteprofile des IRI/GCPM Modells und der Rekonstruktion mit Ionosondenmessungen und CHAMP Okkultationsprofilen verglichen. Dafür wurden Messungen während der HIRAC Kampagne im April 2001 genutzt. Alle hier gezeigten Profilableitungen geben Elektronendichtewerte der selben Größe wieder. Eine Annäherung des IRI/GCPM Modells an die Messwerte der Ionosonde durch die Assimilation der TEC GPS Daten wird gezeigt.

Die Arbeit behandelt das Thema der Migration muslimischer Einwanderer in die Bundesrepublik. Hierbei wird unter verschiedenen Aspekten (Politik, Gesetze, Religion, Medien, Schule, Kosten) ein Wandel herausgearbeitet. Der Wandel in Kombination mit der Frage nach einem Integrationsproblem - in der Vergangenheit, in der Gegenwart und in der Zukunft - zeigt auf, dass dieses durchaus eigenproduziert ist. Es wird dargestellt, dass die Integration noch höhere Kosten verursachen kann und welche Sofortmaßnahmen möglich sind um einem Integrationsproblem entgegen zu wirken.

Die vorliegende Dissertation analysiert das Integrationsverhalten der chinesischen Zuwanderer in Deutschland durch eine Fallstudie in einer neuen Perspektive: Die Chinesen in Deutschland rekonstruieren die chinesische Identität für ihre Kinder durch das Erlernen des Chinesischen, damit sie in Deutschland besser anerkannt wer-den und sich integrieren können. Im kurzen Wort: Die Eltern lassen ihre Kinder lernen, Chinesen zu werden, damit sie in Deutschland besser leben können. Ihre sorgfältig organisierte und rekonstruierte ethnische Identi-tät, als das Produkt der Integrationsstrategie, wirkt als der Hebel zwischen ihren beiden lebendigen Welten, damit sie ihre Chancen vor allem in Deutschland verbessern können.<br>The present dissertation analyzes the integration behavior of Chinese immigrants in Germany through a case study in a new perspective: The Chinese in Germany reconstruct the Chinese identity for their children and themselves by learning the Chinese so that they can be better recognized and integrated in Germany. In short: Parents let their children learn to become Chinese so they can live better in Germany. Their carefully organized and reconstructed ethnic identity, as the product of the integration strategy, acts as the lever be-tween their two living worlds so that they can improve their chances, especially in Germany.

A major opportunity for using satellite observations of tropospheric chemical concentrations is to improve our scientific understanding of atmospheric processes by integrated analysis of satellite, aircraft, and ground-based observations with global and regional scale models. One endpoint of such efforts is to reduce modeling biases and uncertainties. The idea of coupling these observations with a regional scale air quality model was the starting point of this research. The overall objective of this research was to improve the NOₓ emission inventories by integrating observations from different platforms and regional air quality modeling. Specific objectives were: 1) Comparison of satellite NO₂ retrievals with simulated NO₂ by the regional air quality model. Comparison of simulated tropospheric gas concentrations simulated by the regional air quality model, with aircraft and ground-based observations; 3) Assessment of the uncertainties in comparing satellite NO₂ retrievals with NOₓ emissions estimates and model simulations; 4) Identification of biases in emission inventories by data assimilation of satellite NO₂ retrievals, and ground-based NO, NO₂ and O₃ observations with an iterative inverse method using the regional air quality model coupled with sensitivity calculations; 5) Improvement of our understanding of NOₓ emissions, and the interaction between regional and global air pollution by an integrated analysis of satellite NO₂ retrievals with the regional air quality model. Along with these objectives, a lightning NOₓ emission inventory was prepared for two months of summer 2004 to account for a significant upper level NOₓ source. Spatially-resolved weekly NO₂ variations from satellite retrievals were compared with estimated NOₓ emissions for different region types. Data assimilation of satellite NO₂ retrievals, and ground-based NO, NO₂ and O₃ observations were performed to evaluate the NOₓ emission inventory. This research contributes to a better understanding of the use of satellite NO₂ retrievals in air quality modeling, and improvements in the NOₓ emission inventories by correcting some of the inconsistencies that were found in the inventories. Therefore, it may provide groups that develop emissions estimates guidance on areas for improvement. In addition, this research indicates the weaknesses and the strengths of the satellite NO₂ retrievals and offers suggestions to improve the quality of the retrievals for further use in the tropospheric air pollution research.

La prévision des états de mer est un domaine d'une extrême importance pour la planification des opérations en mer, pour des raisons évidentes de sécurité des personnels et des matériels mis en oeuvre. Les modèles de prévision actuels reposent sur une description stochastique de l'état de mer et ne prédisent pas de façon déterministe l'évolution de la houle, mais seulement celle des données spectrales dont on tire des grandeurs statistiques moyennes caractéristiques d'un état de mer. Face au besoin réel de données précises à court terme, un modèle de prévision déterministe a été développé dans le but d'améliorer l'efficacité des opérations offshore requérant une connaissance précise de la houle sur un site d'intérêt. Après avoir réalisé une étude théorique permettant de déterminer la zone spatio-temporelle de prévision disponible en fonction des caractéristiques du champ de vagues courant et des conditions de mesure, nous avons élaboré deux procédures d'assimilation de données variationnelles afin de combiner au mieux les mesures recueillies sur site et le modèle de propagation de houle choisi. Ce modèle est d'ordre deux dans le cas de houles faiblement à moyennement cambrées, ou d'ordre élevé reposant sur le modèle numérique High-Order Spectral (HOS) pour les houles cambrées non-linéaires. Les modèles à l'ordre deux étendu et à l'ordre HOS M = 3 ont été validés pour la prévision de houles 2D synthétiques et expérimentales : les erreurs moyennes de prévision obtenues sont au moins divisées par deux par rapport à une approche linéaire, l'amélioration étant d'autant plus probante que la cambrure de la houle et l'ordre du modèle sont élevés.

This thesis will deal with the development of the situation of the Roma minority in the Swedish school system in the period between 1954 to 2010, based on two Swedish Government Official Reports of the group's situation in the Swedish schools. The study is done by the report Zigenarfrågan (SOU 1956:43) and with the report Romers rätt (SOU 2010:55). The report Romers rätt was written by the Delegation for Roma issues and gives an updated picture of the situation of Roma in the Swedish school system. The state investigation Zigenarfrågan, is also important as the latter resulted in the Roma children enrolled in Swedish schools. This work will look at the various governmental investigations by the theory used for analysis called ”structural discrimination theory”. Comparison of these two reports by structural discrimination as theory has shown that Zigenarfrågan good vision and belief in the assimilation proposals, did not lead to desired results. Instead of achieving a homogeneous school, it resulted in a discriminatory school that still lives by the principle of homogeneity. Many of the proposals made in the report Romers rätt shows that Swedish school much because of its international bonds, trying to counter the structural discrimination directed against Roma and other minorities. But the work becomes very difficult when the structural discrimination norms are deeply ingrained in society's various institutional bodies.

Microplastics take hundreds to thousands of years to degrade in nature, and pose a threat to the environment. A photocatalytical degradation method have been developed to take advantage of solar light to degrade microplastics, however it takes several months to degrade microplastics with the process. The purpose of this study is to enhance the degradation rate of microplastics by synthesizing a material where photocatalysis is combined with Fenton reaction. A material with zinc oxide nanorods coated with tin oxide and decorated with iron particles (𝑍𝑛𝑂/𝑆𝑛𝑂2/𝐹𝑒0) was synthesized and used to degrade methylene blue, polystyrene and polypropylene. The result show that the degradation rate with a 𝑍𝑛𝑂/𝑆𝑛𝑂2/𝐹𝑒0 – sample is faster than with a 𝑍𝑛𝑂 – sample, and that it can be used to degrade polystyrene and polypropylene.Students’ view on researchers can affect the development of their interest and attitude towards science. Study visits to laboratories have been used to increase students’ interest and give them new experiences. The purpose of this study is to investigate what and how high school students learn during a study visit to a nanotechnology laboratory, and how the study visit affects high school students’ interest and motivation for research and learning. A study visit with 5 stations was organized, and students were given a questionnaire about what they learned during the study visit. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the students’ answers. The result shows that the study visit increased students’ interest in research, and the importance of designing stations so that they are connected to students’ previous knowledge and are within their proximal development zone.<br>Mikroplaster tar hundratals till tusentals år att bryta ner i naturen och utgör ett hot mot miljön. En fotokatalytisk nedbrytningsprocess har utvecklats där solljus utnyttjas för att bryta ner mikroplaster, dock tar det flera månader att bryta ner mikroplaster med den processen. Syftet med denna studie är att förbättra nedbrytningshastigheten av mikroplaster genom att syntetisera ett material där fotokatalys kombineras med Fenton-reaktion. Ett material med zinkoxid nanorör belagda med tennoxid och dekorerade med järnpartiklar (𝑍𝑛𝑂/𝑆𝑛𝑂2/𝐹𝑒0) syntetiserades och användes för att bryta ner metylenblått, polystyren och polypropen. Resultatet visar att nedbrytningshastigheten med 𝑍𝑛𝑂/𝑆𝑛𝑂2/𝐹𝑒0 – materialet är snabbare än med ett 𝑍𝑛𝑂 – material, och att 𝑍𝑛𝑂/𝑆𝑛𝑂2/𝐹𝑒0 – materialet kan användas för att bryta ned polystyren och polypropen.Elevers syn på forskning och forskare kan påverka utvecklingen av deras intresse och inställning till vetenskap. Studiebesök på laboratorier har använts för att öka elevernas intresse och ge dem nya erfarenheter. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vad och hur gymnasieelever lär sig under ett studiebesök i ett nanotekniklaboratorium och hur studiebesöket påverkar gymnasieelevernas intresse och motivation för forskning och lärande. Ett studiebesök med 5 stationer organiserades och eleverna fick ett frågeformulär om vad de lärde sig under studiebesöket. Tematisk analys användes för att analysera elevernas svar. Resultatet visar att studiebesöket ökade elevernas intresse för forskning och vikten av att utforma stationer så att de är kopplade till elevernas tidigare kunskaper och ligger inom deras proximala utvecklingszon.

Syftet med denna studie har varit att undersöka vilka olika religiösa inriktningar som finns bland sverigefinländare idag och vilken religiös bakgrund de har. Ett annat syfte har varit att ta reda på om religionen spelar en primär eller en sekundär roll för identiteten jämfört med kultur och språk hos sverigefinländare, och om det finns skillnader i den religiösa identiteten hos första, andra och tredje generationens sverigefinländare, samt hur dessa förmodade skillnader kan förklaras. En annan målsättning med denna studie har varit att undersöka hur religiositet uttrycks hos första, andra och tredje generationens sverigefinländare genom religiös praktik. Det teoretiska ramverket består av Nancy T. Ammermans and Lori Peeks teorier om religiös identitet and Thomas Hylland Eriksens and Fredrik Barths teorier om gränsdragningsprocesser. Denna studie visar att det finns en stor mångfald vad gäller religiösa inriktningar bland sverigefinländarna och att även deras religiösa bakgrund skiftar. Resultatet av denna studie visar att religiös tro tycks vara viktigare för identiteten för första generationens sverigefinländare jämfört med andra och tredje generationen. En av förklaringarna skulle kunna vara att sverigefinländare av andra och tredje generationen är mer assimilerade i det sekulära, svenska samhället och även att andra och tredje generationens invandrare har en mer otydlig identitet och att de i vissa fall kan bli etniska eller religiösa anomalier. Trots mångfalden vad gäller religiösa inriktningar, visar studien att det även finns likheter, i synnerhet bland första generationens sverigefinländare. Första generationen tycks vara mer konservativ vad gäller bibeltolkning och religiösa värderingar, exempelvis. Ett av skälen kan vara att finsktalande präster från Finland, som arbetar inom Svenska kyrkan, har en bakgrund inom väckelserörelsen, som har haft stark påverkan på Evangelisk-lutherska kyrkan i Finland. Denna studie visar också att det finns ett levande och aktivt religiöst liv bland sverigefinländare idag, trots att assimilationstycket har varit stort.<br>The aim of this study has been to explore what kind of religious directions are to be found among Sweden Finlanders today and what religious background they have. Another aim has been to find out if religion has a primary or a secondary role for the identity compared to culture and language among Sweden Finlanders, and if there are differences in religious identity between the first, the second and the third generation and how these assumed differences can be explained. Another purpose with this study has been to explore how religiosity among Sweden Finlanders of the first, the second and the third generation is shown through religious practice. The theoretical framework consists of Nancy T. Ammerman’s and Lori Peek’s theories about religious identity and Thomas Hylland Eriksen’s and Fredrik Barth’s theories about boundary making processes. This study shows there is a great diversity in religious directions among Sweden Finlanders and their religious background is also shifting. According to the results of this study, religious faith seems to be more important for the identity for religious Sweden Finlanders of the first generation compared to the second and the third generation. One of the explanations could be that Sweden Finlanders of the second and the third generation are more assimilated in the secular, Swedish society and also because second and third generation immigrants’ identity is less clear and in some cases they become an ethnic or a religious anomaly. This study also shows that although there are differences between the religious directions, similarities also exists, especially between Sweden Finlanders of the first generation. The first generation seems to be more conservative when it comes to Bible interpretation and religious values, for example. One of the reasons might be that Finnish speaking priests from Finland, who work within Church of Sweden, have a background in the religious revival movements which has had a strong influence on the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. This study also shows there is a living and active religious life among Sweden Finlanders today, even though the pressure to assimilate has been strong.

Die Arbeit untersucht die kulturellen Bestimmungsfaktoren des Bildungserwerbs von Zuwandererschülern im Vergleich zu Schülern aus nichtgewanderten Familien. Genauer handelt es sich bei den untersuchten Migrantengruppen um ex-sowjetische (Spät-)Aussiedler in Deutschland und ex-sowjetisch jüdische Zuwanderer in Israel, die nach dem Zusammenbruch des Sowjetregimes ausgewandert sind. Den Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit bildet die Frage, ob sich Bildungsdisparitäten zwischen Migranten und Einheimischen sowie innerhalb einer Migrantengruppe auf Differenzen in den kulturellen Orientierungen der Zuwandererfamilien und auf die damit verbundenen kulturspezifischen Fertigkeiten der Schüler zurückführen lassen. Die bisherige soziologische Bildungsforschung klammert kulturelle Aspekte bei der Erklärung von Unterschieden im Bildungserwerb zwischen Schülern mit und ohne Migrationshintergrund weitestgehend aus. Die Arbeit versucht auf theoretischer Ebene, die kulturelle Dimension ethnischer Bildungsungleichheiten zu erfassen. Zur systema-tischen Erschließung der kulturellen Dimension migrantenspezifischer Ungleichheiten im Bildungssystem werden im Theoriekapitel drei Theoriestränge – integrations- bzw. assimilationstheoretische Ansätze, der Kultureller Kapitalansatz, der Ressourcen-Investitionsansatz – miteinander verknüpft und daraus Hypothesen abgeleitet. Die aufgestellten Annahmen werden mit den Daten des Immigrants’ Children in the Educational System of Germany and Israel-Projekts (BMBF-Förderung, Laufzeit: 2006-2010) bei ex-sowjetischen Zuwanderern in Deutschland und in Israel empirisch überprüft. Die Arbeit liefert Befunde, wie die intergenerationale Übertragung kultureller und kulturspezifischer Fertigkeiten in Migrantenfamilien im Vergleich zu einheimischen Familien verläuft und welche Bedeutung der Kultur des Herkunftslandes im Vergleich zu der des Aufnahmelandes beim Bildungserwerb von Migranten zukommt. Zusätzlich stellt die Arbeit die konträren Argumente der assimilationstheoretischen Ansätze gegenüber und fragt nach der empirischen Gültigkeit der theoretischen Ansätze.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde untersucht, wie sich der Einfluss von Idealkörperwerbung auf weibliche, körperbildrelevante Größen äußert. Zur Beantwortung der Frage, weshalb bisherige Studien zur kurzfristigen Werbewirkung schlanker Models uneinheitliche Ergebnisse aufweisen, wurde ein Experiment durchgeführt. Die Vermutung, dass die Art des beworbenen Produktes (Suggestion einer Veränderung des Körpers durch das Produkt vorhanden oder nicht) und die Darstellung des Models (dünn oder fülliger), sich, je nach Ausprägung der betrachteten beiden experimentellen Faktoren, sowohl positiv als auch negativ auf soziale Vergleichsprozesse und hieraus resultierende Werbewirkungen äußern könnten, wurde nicht für die Produktart, wohl aber für die abgebildete Körperform des Models bestätigt. Erstmalig wurde in dieser Arbeit der Einfluss des abgebildeten weiblichen Körpers weitestgehend unabhängig von der sonstigen physiognomischen Attraktivität erfasst. Wichtigstes Ergebnis dieser Arbeit ist die Erkenntnis, dass die weibliche Wahrnehmung des Körperbildes (aktuell und ideal) sich in die Richtung der in der Werbung dargebotenen Figur ändert. Frauen, die dünne Models gesehen hatten, nahmen sich selbst und andere schlanker wahr als Probandinnen, die Durchschnittskörper betrachtet hatten (Assimilation). Ergebnisse hinsichtlich körperbildrelevanter Größen, die auf affektiv-kognitivem Niveau erhoben wurden, waren weniger eindeutig festzustellen und unterlagen weitaus mehr den Ausprägungen individueller Einflussgrößen. So wurde zum Beispiel festgestellt, dass während Idealkörperwerbung sich bei körperzufriedenen Frauen eher positiv äußert (Assimilationstendenzen), bei körperunzufriedeneren Frauen mit negativen Werbewirkungen (Kontrasteffekte) gerechnet werden muss. Weiterhin wurde gezeigt, dass die Wahl der Referenzgruppe und vermutlich auch die generelle über den Körper hinausgehende Attraktivität der Werbedarstellerinnen einen Einfluss ausüben auf gemessene Werbewirkungen.

Über den Zusammenhang von "Migration" und "Entwicklung" ist - trotz einiger interessanter Forschungsansätze im englischen und französischen Sprachraum - immer noch wenig bekannt. Insbesondere im Hinblick auf hochgebildete MigrantInnen aus sog. Entwicklungsländern steht weiterhin die These vom "Brain Drain" im Vordergrund, die besagt, daß die Emigration von AkademikerInnen (wie von qualifizierten Menschen allgemein) gleichbedeutend sei mit einem Verlust an Entwicklungspotential für die Herkunftsländer. Die Dissertation möchte diese These vom "Brain Drain" relativieren. Der Großteil der Forschung über den "Brain Drain" wird von der Analyse quantitativen Datenmaterials auf der Makro-Ebene getragen. Im starken Kontrast dazu beruht die Dissertation auf einem qualitativen Forschungsansatz auf der Mikro-Ebene, bei dem direkte Interviews mit in Industrieländern lebenden AkademikerInnen aus sog. Entwicklungsländern im Mittelpunkt stehen. Dadurch wird die bisher geleistete Forschungsarbeit sinnvoll ergänzt. Als zentrales Ergebnis ist festzuhalten, daß die These vom "Brain Drain" relativiert werden muß: Tatsächlich ist die Emigration von AkademikerInnen nicht in allen Fällen gleichbedeutend mit einem Verlust an Entwicklungspotential für die Herkunftsländer. Unter bestimmten Bedingungen - die in der Dissertation näher analysiert werden - können auch in der Emigration Beiträge zur Entwicklung der Herkunftsländer geleistet werden. Ausschlaggebend dafür ist die intensive Integration in das Aufnahmeland - bis hin zur Einbürgerung - unter Beibehaltung von engen Bindungen zum Herkunftsland. Auf der anderen Seite kann die Emigration tatsächlich aber auch durch vollständige Assimilation oder Marginalität Züge eines "Brain Drain" im Sinne eines Verlustes an Entwicklungspotential für die Herkunftsländer annehmen. Ausschlaggebend dafür ist aber nicht, wie bisher angenommen, die Integration in das Aufnahmeland als solche, sondern vielmehr der Modus der Integration in das Aufnahmeland. Es wird eine sechs-zügige Typologie vorgestellt, in der die Modi der Integration in das Aufnahmeland unter Berücksichtigung der Beziehungen der Migranten zu ihren Herkunftsländern eingehend untersucht werden.
