The system of asterism in ancient China was inextricably linked with the feudal system. Starting from the origin, classification and naming methods of the asterism system, this paper illustrates the inner connection between the asterism system and the feudal system. From the philosophical perspective of "matter determines consciousness and consciousness reacts to matter", we analyze the constraints of the feudal system on the naming system of asterism and the profound influence of the system on the feudal system. Abstract The application of a sodium laser guide star is the key difference between a modern adaptive optics system and traditional adaptive optics system. Especially in system such as multiconjugate adaptive optics, a sodium laser guide star asterism that is formed by several laser guide stars in a certain pattern is required to probe more atmospheric turbulence in different directions. To achieve this, a sodium laser guide star asterism launching platform is required. In this paper, we introduce the sodium laser guide star asterism launching platform built and tested on the 1.8 m telescope o

The asterism of Veronica’s Veil reported by Rheita in 1645 is argued to be real, though inconspicuous; not a star cluster; and not correlated with Johannes Zahn’s picture published in 1686 and widely redistributed. The asterism is most likely the rectangle bounded by ρ Leonis, β Sextantis, ο Leonis, and ι Hydrae, with some scattered interior stars interpreted as a face.

AbstractIn 1677-8 Robert Boyle fell victim to a French confidence trickster, Georges Pierre des Clozets, who claimed to belong to a secret society of alchemists, 'the Asterism'; the leader of the Asterism was described as the 'Patriarch of Antioch', resident in Constantinople. New evidence shows that Georges Pierre had contrived to publish two short articles about this 'Patriarch' in a Dutch newspaper, and that one of these was given to Boyle to corroborate Pierre's claims. These articles provide further information about the nature of Pierre's invention. Most importantly, they show that his '

ASTERISMS is a collection of lyric poetry that seeks to express a sense of awe for the natural world by exploring themes of science, art, and the self. By combining physics and metaphysics, scientific terminology and musings on love, ASTERISMS argues that these seemingly-disparate fields of knowledge can harmonize in unexpected ways. In its style, the collection draws from the works of Dorianne Laux, Pablo Neruda, and Annie Dillard. Most of the poems are written in free-version and are tied together by images of astronomy and wilderness, both modern and prehistoric. Poems about classical music
