Abstract:
Background:Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) carries the highest mortality burden among the rheumatic diseases. >95% of SSc patients harbor autoantibodies. Anti-topoisomerase antibodies (ATA) and anti-centromere antibodies (ACA) are most prevalent, mutually exclusive in individual patients, associate with distinct disease phenotypes and predict disease. Whether and how these auto-reactive B cell responses contribute to disease, however, is currently unclear. Objectives:To delineate phenotypic and functional characteristics of anti-topoisomerase and anti-centromere specific B cell responses in individual patients with SSc.Methods:Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) obtained from ATA- and ACA-positive SSc patients were cultured without stimulation or in the presence of CD40L-expressing fibroblasts, IL-21 and BAFF. In addition, PBMC were depleted of circulating plasmablasts (CD19+CD20-CD27++) by fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), and isolated plasmablasts were cultured separately. ATA- and ACA-IgG and -IgA were measured in culture supernatants by ELISA. B cell subsets were defined by flow cytometry. Healthy donors and patients with rheumatoid arthritis served as controls. Results:We observed that ATA- and ACA-positive SSc patients harbour circulating B cells that secrete either ATA-IgG or ACA-IgG upon stimulation, depending on their serotype. In addition, we noted spontaneous secretion of ATA-IgG and, more remarkably, extensive secretion of ATA-IgA in ATA-positive patients. This degree of spontaneous, antigen-specific IgA secretion was specific for the ATA response in ATA-positive patients, while spontaneous ACA-IgA secretion was undetectable in the ACA-positive patient group. FACS experiments showed that spontaneously ATA-IgA secreting B cells were primarily present in the plasmablast compartment. Conclusion:Our findings demonstrate that ATA-positive SSc patients harbour an activated ATA-IgG and ATA-IgA B cell response, as indicated by the spontaneous secretion of both ATA isotypes by circulating plasmablasts. Remarkably, the ACA B cell response was far less active and lacked the active IgA component which suggests a difference in the triggers driving these autoreactive B cell responses in patients. Moreover, the remarkable ATA-IgA secretion points towards a potential mucosal origin of the ATA response.Disclosure of Interests:Corrie Wortel: None declared, Nina van Leeuwen: None declared, Maaike Boonstra: None declared, Rene Toes: None declared, Thomas Huizinga Grant/research support from: Ablynx, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Roche, Sanofi, Consultant of: Ablynx, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Roche, Sanofi, Jeska de Vries-Bouwstra: None declared, Hans Ulrich Scherer Grant/research support from: Bristol Myers Squibb, Sanofi, Pfizer, Speakers bureau: Pfizer, Lilly, Roche, Abbvie

Abstract:
L'any 1994, Vincent Odammten, dedicà un llibre sencer a l'anàlisi de l'obra d'Aidoo: The Art of Ama Ata Aidoo: Polylectics and Reading Against Colonialism.
The Archaelogy of Knowledge and the Discourse on Language.
La meva tesi doctoral consta de dues parts: The Cave: Colonialism Black and White i The Cave Revisited. Towards a Subjectification of Africa and African Women. La primera part la conformen dos capítols: Unveiling the Ghost: Heart of Darkness or Africa-Chronotope Zero i (Auto) Biographical Fiction: The Facing and De-Facing of Africa-.
Part I. The Cave. Colonialism Black and White i Part II. The Cave Revisited. Towards a Subjectification of Africa and African Women.

Abstract: This research seeks to analyze the use of Notary Public Records as means of proof. Thus, this academic work aims to study the role played by the Notary Public Offices in Brazil, the typical and atypical principles that it are applied to them as well as the exclusive competence of the Notary Public provided by article 7 of the Law nº. 8.935/94. It also contemplates the verification for the concept, object, shape, structure, requirements and types of Notary minutes regarding the reality of the Brazilian Notary Public Office services. Notwithstanding, it studies the main characteristics of the Brazilian law of evidence and the typical means of proof brought by Law nº. 13.105, of March 16, 2015, also entitled as the New Code of Civil Procedure, among which are the notary minutes. Thus, it reveals that before the term of the New Code of Civil Procedure of 2015, which occurred on March 18, 2016, when it was still in force the Law nº. 5,869 of January 11, 1973, also known as the former Code of Civil Procedure of 1973, the notary minutes were used as an atypical mean of proof in civil procedural law on the basis of atypical proof and interpretation of articles 212 and 215 of the Civil Code, articles 332 and 364 of the former Code of Civil Procedure of 1973, article 19, section II, of the Federal Constitution of 1988 and federal jurisprudence. After the term of the New Code of Civil Procedure of 2015, the notary minutes started to be legally ensured as typical means of proof provided by the article 384 of the New Code of Civil Procedure, which allows a legal reflection on the changes introduced by the legislative adequacy and the social and legal benefits that can be achieved with this new legal tool regarding this important mean of proof

Shin, Jayoung Francesca-Maria. "Being a "Soviet Korean" in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2006. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/1900/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines what it means to be a "Soviet Korean" in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. The majority of Koreans in Alma-Ata are the historical result of two displacements, having first migrated to Russia since the nineteenth century and then being deported to Kazakhstan in 1937 by Stalin. The repression was followed by decades of confinement in collective farms. The unlikely Korean presence in Central Asia was to be unveiled to the outside world after glasnost, and a change in the international political climate around the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games resulted in unprecedented encounters between the Soviet Korean diaspora community and other Korean visitors. My fieldwork began shortly afterwards, capturing the historical moment of this hitherto unknown section of the Korean diaspora. Reflecting the minority's history of persecution and isolation, it is not surprising to find high levels of linguistic and cultural "Russification". However, the Soviet Koreans constantly compare themselves with "others" and keep a distinct boundary. Following Bloch (1998), I argue for the importance of exploring socio-cultural reproduction in implicit domains. Thus sharing and transmitting cultural identity and memory is not so dependent on languages, narratives and formal education alone. Rather, aspects of "being Korean" are constantly found and reinforced within the community in aspects such as management of resources, articulation of cultural symbols, ways of communication, and sensorial preferences. I concentrate on their history, community dynamics, parent and child relationship, dietary practice, way of communicating and implicit and emotional aspects of "being Korean". I elucidate both the experiences and representations of the diaspora covering from pre-migration days in Korea to the present in the new state of Kazakhstan. Korean agricultural and Confucian root is favourably contrasted to the nomadic Kazakh traditions, yet it also bears the stigma of marginality in a Soviet context. Thus "Soviet Koreanness" reflects the traditions of the early migrants which are open to constant repositioning through dialogue with other Korean influences and ethnic groups. Food and culinary practice in its production and consumption is one of such areas where categories of ethnicity and gender get expressed and boundaries are maintained. Strong emotional responses are noted as they are triggered by sensory experiences and associations. In the section on family I single out the significance of parent-child relationships and associated ideology and emotions. Parental sacrifice, filial piety and guilt are specific parts of "being" a Korean. Education as ethnic identifier, and symbolic component for Korean personhood is examined in an intergenerational context. Finally, I explore Korean emphasis on non-verbal and implicit ways of communication and examine their relationship with notions of personhood, morality and ethnic identity.

Abstract:
With gaining the independence and the emergence of a new state the linguistic situation in Kazakhstan has been changed. The restoration and return of historical names, the fi xing of unifi ed rules of the transferring of Kazakh toponyms into other languages became the basis of national onomastic policy of independent Kazakhstan. After the law “On languages in the Republic of Kazakhstan” adopted in 1997 the activity on improvement of orthographic norms and formulation of new rules of transferring geographical names from Kazakh into Russian started. As a result of these acts many distorted names of inhabited localities and administrative-territorial units are gradually being put into an appropriate norm. Many of them are still to be corrected according to new “Law on Administrative - Territorial Structure of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (December 8, 1993.) and Presidential Decree (December 29, 1995.), Government Resolution (March 5, 1996.) where the rules on Russian transferring of Kazakh onyms were approved. Due to such activity to former capital of Kazakhstan Alma-Ata was returned its original name Almaty. Thus, in our article we decided to give our point of view on some issues relating to grammatical adaptation of toponym Almaty in Russian language.

Abstract:
During cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB), Heparin inhibits EXa (EXal), thrombin and platelet activity and is also reported to induce fibrinolysis. Eragmin (Erag) has 25% thrombin inhibition capacity as related to that of Heparin (Hep). An in_vitro study was performed to compare Frag with Hep by circulating blood in a pure artificial system. In 20 experiments, 400 ml of freshly collected blood with Frag or Hep were recycled for 2 h. HLM was primed with 400 ml of Ringeracetate. Blood sampling: donor, blood pack and every 20 min from the oxygenator. V_a£i£ble£/jassay/:ACT/Hemochron/5 APTT , TT and NT/Nyegaard/;FXaI, FVIII and ATIiT t"ATA)/amydolytic/; AT 111 (ATAg) and vWF/IEP/;Plasminogen (Pig) and albumine/immuno-diffusion/;FDP/Wellcome/;Platelet function/Adeplat S/;Fibrinogen (Fbg)/clottable/;Hemolysis (HL)/photometric/; (β -Thromboglobulin ((βTG)/RTA/;EVF, Hb, platelet count (PC) and Leucocyte count (LC)/ conventional). Corrections for hemo-/plasma dilutions were calculated. Dosages (n): Frag: 750 (1), 1500 (3), 2100 (4), 2500 (4) FXal-U (U); Hep: 1000 (3), 1500 (6) IU clinical level. Clotting only occurred at Frag 750 (1) and 1500 (2) U, when ACT, APTT, FVIII, Fbg and ATA were significantly lowered. Generally, PC fell 75% during the recycling, while PF was constant'∼20% and (βTG increased. Neither presence of FDP nor Pig consumption were detected. FXal, ACT, APTT, TT and NT were dose dependent for both drugs. ATA was directly dose-related to Frag but inversely to Hep. LC decreased with the Frag-dose but inversely to that of Hep. HL increased generally. Several proteins increased (clotting excl): Fbg 30%, ATAg 25%, ATA 45?o and vWF 60%. Conclusions. Prevention of clotting required about the double dosage of Frag. Shortened ACT and APTT predicted clotting while the levels of FXal, TT and NT did not. Thus, an effective thrombin inhibition is needed under this conditions. Consumptions of FVIII, Fbg and ATA but no further drop in PC at clotting, indicate weak platelet aggregation involvement. Absence of fibrinolytic signs supports that the fibrinolysis seen at CPB, is not a genuine effect of Hep (or Frag). Increases in some proteins may be caused by cytolysis. The rise in vWF is probably due to release from platelet surfaces.
