Abstract:

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacterium, produces pyocyanin, a virulence factor associated with antibiotic tolerance. High concentrations of royal jelly have an antibacterial effect, which may have the potential to overcome antibacterial resistance. However, in some cases, antibiotic tolerance can occur due to prolonged stress of low-dose antibacterial agents. This study aimed to investigate the effect of subinhibitory concentrations of royal jelly on bacterial growth and pyocyanin production of P. aeruginosa. Methods: Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC® 1014

Biofilm-related nosocomial infections may cause a wide range of life-threatening infections. In this regard, Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm is becoming a serious health burden due to its capability to develop resistance to natural and synthetic drugs. The utilization of nanoparticles that inhibit biofilm formation is one of the major strategies to control infections caused by biofilm-forming pathogens. Hydroxyapatite (HA) is a synthetic ceramic material having properties similar to natural bones. Herein, a co-precipitation method followed by microwave treatment was used to synthesize HA nanopa

The evolution of degradsation capacity and in the viability of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145 acclimated to 25 mg4CP/L degradation and, later, exposed to starvation periods of 24, 48, 72, 96, 132 and 156 hours was studied. Degradation rate heterotrophic plate count and cell cytometry were used to evaluate the starvation influence. Results demonstrated that the exposition of P. aeruginosa to starvation produces a decrease in the viability and activity for the degradation of 4-chlorophenol.

Abstract:
The cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. ATCC53789 produces two interesting families of natural products: the cryptophycins and the nostocyclopeptides. The structures of the cryptophycins, a class of tumor-selective cytotoxins, suggest the involvement of both peptide synthetases and polyketide synthases in their biosynthesis. The nostocyclopeptides are cyclic heptapeptides that feature the unnatural amino acid (2S, 4S)-4-methylproline and an unusual imine linkage between two of the amino acid residues. To identify the biosynthetic gene clusters for these peptides, a cosmid library was generated. Peptide

Abstract:
Various diesel injectors and injection pressures were tested along with exhaust gas recirculation to achieve low NOx and soot emissions. The injectors used in the study included a 6-hole nozzle, a 10-hole nozzle, and a 6-hole convergent nozzle with a K-factor of 3. All three injectors had the same flow numbers and they were effective in reducing NOx and soot emissions at appropriate conditions. It was found that low temperature combustion can be achieved by using high levels of exhaust gas recirculation with late injection timings. High injection pressures significantly reduced soot emissions
