Full textPsychological assessment of children has become increasingly common. One important aspect of an assessment is the feedback, when the result is communicated to the parents. The aim of the present study is to investigate parents’ experience of assessment feedback, with focus on the relation to the assessor, validation, invalidation and emotions in relationship to the experience of having obtained a new understanding of the child. The study is a cross-sectional study including 33 participants. The results show that positive emotions and invalidation are the two best predictors as to what degree the parents experience that they have been given a new understanding of their child. The study design prevents any conclusions regarding the directions of relationships. The results indicates that when parents experience positive emotions, while not feeling invalidated during the assessment feedback, there are good prerequisites for the parents obtaining a new understanding of their child and that the assessment will be beneficial to the child.

Full textStudier har visat att så väl goda kunskaper i intervjuteknik som intervjuledarens attityd påverkar utfallet av intervjun. De har också visat på att samförstånd är av stor betydelse för en lyckad intervju. Denna uppsats syftar till att under-söka skillnader i lämnad information vid dominant respek-tive humanitär intervjustil. I studien har 30 bandade inter-vjuer med misstänkta gärningsmän och brottsoffer obser-verats. Polisens frågor har kategoriserats som antingen dominanta eller humanitära. Brottsoffrens och misstänkta gärningsmännens svar har kategoriserats som känneteck-nande av antingen ångest eller respekt/samarbete. Studien visade inte på någon signifikant skillnad i mängden infor-mation vid intervjuer med olika grader av humanitet. Stu-dien visade inte heller någon skillnad i informationsmängd vid intervjuer med olika grader av dominans. Intervjuer som karaktäriserades av respekt och samarbete ökade dock mängden information.

Title: Serial recall of two-voice lists: Words are not perceptually organized by voice.
The present study examined how voice affects the perceptual grouping of words in short-term memory that are auditory presented. Three different voice-lists were used: single-voice, alternating-voice and split-voice. In single-voice lists all words were presented in the same voice. In alternating-voice lists words were presented alternately in a male and a female voice. Finally, in split-voice lists words were presented grouped four and four in a male and a female voice. It was hypothesized that recall would be best for split-voice lists, especially at serial position 4 and 5. This was not confirmed. However, in line with earlier investigations, a recall advantage of single-voice lists was found in comparison with recall of alternating-voice lists at the beginning of the serial position curve. Taken together, these results suggest that words are not perceptually organized by voice in short-term memory. Like earlier studies this study found that recall of single-voice lists was better than alternating-voice lists at the first serial position, a result that yet has to be explained.

Full textHigh quality elevation data is of great importance in many contexts, for example in society’s adaptation to climate change. Laser data forest (Laserdata Skog) is elevation data collected from airborne laserscanning, and will cover most of Sweden’s surface when completed. In order for this data to be used in the best possible way, knowledge of its quality is important. Many parameters causes variation in quality for airborne laserdata, and the impact of vegetation is one of the most significant. This study is conducted by request from Lantmäteriet (the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority) and aims to investigate the quality of Laser data Forest. Uncertainty in height and point density is the main focus, as well as how these factors vary in different types of terrain. Uncertainty in height has been investigated by comparisons between laser data and terrestrial control measurements, while point density has been determined by calculations and observations in laser data. Four types of terrain is included in the study: Impervious surface, Grass, Coniferous forest and Deciduous forest. Each type of terrain is represented by three test surfaces, one in each of three different scanning areas. Uncertainty in height was affected by both trees and ground cover, while the vegetational impact on point density was caused by trees alone. Uncertainty in height for individual test sites varied between 0,011 and 0,183 m (RMS). Point density varied between 0,66 and 2,09 points/m2. For the uncertainty in height, a considerable contribution was found to originate from the alignment of the point clouds, which made the analysis of the impact of the terrain more difficult.

Full textIn many earlier investigations a recall advantage of auditory lists spoken in a single voice has been found over recall of lists spoken in two alternating voices. One explanation proposed is an organization strategy which makes recall of alternating-voice lists so difficult. The strategy implies sorting same-voice words into same-voice groups at encoding. Based on this proposition, it was assumed that voice-by-voice recall would be better than recall in order of presentation, as then the recall instruction and the organization of items in memory would be in concordance. The present experiment tested and was unable to support this hypothesis. However, an intriguing interaction between recall instruction and the sex of the participants was found, indicating that males perform worse in the voice-by-voice recall instruction than in serial recall while females’ performance did not differ between the two recall instructions. Implications of these results are discussed.

Full textThis study examined free recall performance in two acoustic conditions, speech and masked speech. Thirty-two students participated in the study. They were visually presented to word lists that were constructed by semantic similarity. After presentation the participants were instructed to recall as many words as possible in free order. The recall session occurred in the two different speech conditions. Based on earlier studies two hypotheses were stated; when the background speech were mixed with masking noise, recall performance of correct words would increase compared to the speech condition. It was also assumed that the masking noise would decrease the number of intrusions from the speech, compare with the number of intrusions made in the unmasked speech condition. The result gave support to the hypothesis that number of correct words increases in masked speech and the number of intrusions decreases in masked speech.

Full textAirborne laser scanning is an efficient method for collecting elevation data over a large area and is therefore frequently used as a basis for digital elevation models, both on a national and regional level (Wehr & Lohr 1999). The advantage of this data collection method is that the emitted laser pulses are reflected both on the ground surface as well as the objects above it, for example the vegetation, buildings or the like. In this way a three-dimensional point cloud can be created from which further products can be generated. The estimated or measured quality of LiDAR data generally applies for the entire scanning area. But it can be interesting to perform a more in-depth analysis of how the quality differs between different types of terrain. At the request of Arvika municipality a quality survey of Lantmäteriet’s second nationwide laser scanning “Laserdata Skog” will be performed. Work is currently being performed using Laserdata NH, the purpose of this study is thus to give Arvika kommun a more nuanced perception of Laserdata Skog’s quality so that future work can be done in a more reliable way with a deeper knowledge about the data at hand. A comparison between Lantmäteriet’s first nationwide laser scanning “Laserdata NH” will also be performed. The comparison between these two is primarily out of a theoretical interest to examine how the quality differs between them. Future laserdata work will probably be executed using the newer product “Laserdata Skog”. The technical specification SIS-TS 21144:2016 ”Construction measurements – Specifications of production and control of digital terrain models” was applied in the study. Both GNSS-equipment and total station where used in order to collect reference data. The included terrain types are: asphalt, gravel, deciduous forest, coniferous forest and grass. Two areas of interest have been selected for each type of terrain in order to achieve a good representation of each terrain type. In order to perform a coordinate comparison between the laser- and reference data the point cloud from the laserdata was interpolated to a TIN-surface. The results show that there are quality differences between Laserdata NH and Laserdata Skog. Laserdata NH obtains remarkably low deviations. The overall trend is however that Laserdata Skog acquires the lower deviations of the two. Determining the causes of this is difficult, as there are several factors that come in to play. In summary the Gravel terrain type obtains the lowest RMSE-value (0,021 m) for Laserdata NH. The terrain type with the lowest RMSE-value for Laserdata Skog is Asphalt (0,017 m). The highest RMSE-values are found in Coniferous forest for both Laserdata NH (0,198 m) and Laserdata Skog (0,111 m).

Full textGraphical representation has been a requirement for registration of non-conventional trade marks since the first step was taken towards a harmonized trade mark regulation in the EU. The requirement for graphical representation was removed as a result of the new trade mark reform. The purpose of this thesis is to illuminate and investigate how the removal of the requirement for graphical representation will affect the possibility to register non-conventional trade marks. The investigation focuses on the following non-conventional trade marks: scent marks, taste marks, sound marks, touch marks, motion marks and holograms. The purpose of the requirement for graphical representation has been to determine the precise nature and extent of the protection that the registered mark provides to its proprietor. However, the requirement has led to difficulties regarding registration of non-conventional trade marks, especially trade marks that cannot be perceived visually. The specific problems, regarding graphical representation, for each one of the selected trade marks, are identified through a review of earlier case-law. The result of the review of the earlier case-law and a review of the new trade mark definition, make up the foundation of the analysis of the consequences the removal of the graphical representation will have on the possibility to register non-conventional trade marks. The result of the analysis indicates that the possibility to register non-conventional trade marks will increase as a result of the removal of the requirement for graphical representation, as it is the graphical representation that has caused most problems for non-conventional trade marks during the registration process. As there is no longer a requirement for the representation to be graphical, it will be possible to use new methods for representation. This will in turn lead to that the criteria the representation must meet, for example that it must be clear and easily accessible, can be better achieved than before.

Full textAvhandlingens övergripande mål var att studera kognitionens betydelse för talförståelse hos vana och nya hörapparatsanvändare. Syftena var att 1) utveckla ett kognitivt test (Sentence-final Word Identification and Recall, eller SWIR test) för att mäta en brusreducerande algoritms effekt på bearbetningen av tydligt tal (vardagsmeningar); 2) att med hjälp av SWIR testet undersöka huruvida hörapparatens signalbehandling påverkade återgivningen av uppfattat tal hos vana hörapparatsanvändare; 3) att utvärdera om effekten av signalbehandling på förmågan att komma ihåg tal påverkas av störande bakgrundsljud samt individuella skillnader i arbetsminnets kapacitet; 4) att undersöka den potentiella kliniska tillämpningen av SWIR testet och 5) att undersöka förhållandet mellan kognition och taluppfattning i störande bakgrundsljud hos nya hörapparatsanvändare under de första sex månaderna med hörapparater. Resultaten visade att för vana hörapparatsanvändare lindrade brusreduceringen det störande ljudets negativa inverkan på minnet när meningar presenterades i form av irrelevant tal på deltagarnas modersmål. De möjliga underliggande mekanismerna är att brusreducering underlättar diskriminering av de auditiva informationsflödena mellan det som ska uppfattas och det som är irrelevant, samt minskar graden av uppmärksamhet som fångas av den språkliga informationen i det irrelevanta talet. Effekterna av brusreducering och resultaten av SWIR var beroende av individuella skillnader i arbetsminnets kapacitet. Resultaten av SWIR har också samband med det självrapporterade utfallet av hörapparatsanvändning. För nya användare spelar arbetsminnets kapacitet initialt en viktigare roll för taluppfattning i störande bakgrundsljud, innan anpassningen till hörapparatens förstärkning skett, än efter sex månader. Denna avhandling visar för första gången att hörapparatens signalbehandling kan signifikant förbättra möjligheten för individer med hörselnedsättning att minnas tydligt tal, som presenteras i störande bakgrundsljud. Avhandlingen bidrar till litteraturen med en diskussion om hur arbetsminnets kapacitet spelar roll i taluppfattning med hörapparat, i synnerhet för nya användare. Med stöd av dess samband med det självrapporterade utfallet, kan SWIR testet användas som redskap i bedömning av hörapparaters effekt.

Full textIn order to be able to register an EU trade mark, there must be no absolute or relative grounds for refusal. One of the absolute grounds for refusal, art. 7.1 e) iii) of the European union trade mark regulation, prohibits registration of signs which consist exclusively of “[...] the shape, or another characteristic, which gives substantial value to the goods”. The provision has been subject of extensive discussion because the rule brings significant interpretation difficulties. Therefore, the essay investigates how the scope of art. 7.1 e) iii) of the European union trade mark regulation shall be interpreted. A case that highlights the difficulties with the aforemen- tioned provision is Svenskt Tenn-målet. The question in this case is whether MANHATTAN should be covered by art. 7.1 e) iii) of the Community trade mark regulation since it is a two-dimensional trademark which is a reproduction of a two-dimensional product. Furthermore, the overlapping protection that may arise between copyright and trademark law, as art. 7.1 e) iii) of the European union trade mark regulation aims to prevent, is also being investigated. It appears from the essay that the concepts in art. 7.1 e) iii) of the European union trade mark regulation must be interpreted separately. The formulation of the regulation also means that “the shape” must be interpreted as being separate from “another characteristic”, which means that only three-dimensional goods shall be covered by the term “form”. Instead, the “another characteristic” aims to capture such signs that are not covered by “form”. However, what is decisive in the regulation is the term “substantial value”, which may include different factors, such as price, reputation and the consumer’s perception of the product. The judgement is that MANHATTAN should be covered by art. 7.1 e) iii) of the European union trade mark regulation in the light of the wording and purpose of the regulation. The essay also states that the overlapping protection between copyright and trademark law is not desirable. The copyright and trademark law have differing protection interests and contains various provisions. Therefore, an overlapping protection entails a too extensive protection, which may not have been desirable by the legislator. Certainly, an overlap is to be desirable from the right holder’s perspective. However, the judgement between the legislator, the right holder’s and the public interest’s perspective means that the overlap cannot be consid- ered desirable.
