Full textThe aim of this work was i) to validate a method to calculate force during bench press exercise according to data obtained with a kinematic device; ii) to relate the muscle characteristics of the upper and lower limbs of throwers (discus, hammer and shot-put) to the performance; and iii) to propose a protocol adapted to throwers’ evaluation. Firstly, forces calculated according to data obtained with a kinematic device during bench press exercise were compared to those simultaneously measured with a force platform. The results showed the importance of taking the upper limbs mass into account when forces are calculated using a kinematic device. Secondly, muscular characteristics of the upper (maximal power, force and velocity determined from bench press exercise) and lower limbs (maximal power, force and velocity determined from half squat exercise and musculotendinous stiffness) were analyzed in a group of high level male throwers. Whatever the throwing events considered, results demonstrated that throwing performance was associated on the one hand with high lower limb strength and a high level of leg stiffness, and on the other hand with a upper limbs maximal power. Finally, force, velocity and power determined during cycling and those obtained from half squat exercise were compared. From a quantitative point of view, power, force and velocity values determined during cycling were significantly different. However, the same relationships between muscular characteristics and throwing performance were evidenced. In line with previous analysis the following testing protocol could be suggested: half-squat 1-RM (one repetition maximal) and musculotendinous stiffness determination for lower limbs, and maximal power estimation from one bench press against a barbell without load for upper limbs

Full textThree types of social interactions account for the evolution of athletic races. 1- The nature of the athletic effort could be defined as struggles between groups which underline their differences through comparison so as to gain the whole monopoly of the symbols. In order to preserve their motivations, individuals will create new forms of physical activities. Thus, they emphatically contest the orthodoxy of sport and therefore constrain the institution to integrate their messianic stand-point. 2- The thus created conflicts during a collective activity are regulated by individualizing the efforts, separating the operations concerning the treatment of both internal and external uncertain- ties, and lastly by the presence of the coach who acts as a go-between. 3- The technical and organizational productions form compromises between the various types of agents. They maintain and try to solve the duality of a contest against others and a contest against oneself. The symbolical images used to achieve a sort of harmony remain in accordance with a situational type of rhetoric which drives the athlete to keep the social constraints within himself. Reversing the means and ends well account for the shift from handicap to scratch races as they might account for increased preparatory tasks

Full textNow the trainers can use the appropriate equipment and measurements in order to analyse the performance and not only their visual observations and their experience. The first chapter is devoted to the existing bibliography where two approaches can be found. The analysis of the cinematographic images. And the observations of the trainers. The second chapter describes the method employed to help the trainer of a champion, to analyse and understand the significance of this element, the first hurdle. For this purpose, we used a 3D cinematographic. In the third chapter, the final aim of our work is presented. The target was the set-up of preparation facilities aiming to guide the training in real time. The program, includes the analysis of the start, the study of the passing of the first hurdle as well as of another hurdle chosen by the trainer. For this purpose, we used a combination of three sets of 3D cinematographic

Full textIssues concerning motor control, biomechanical constraints in the child development, and new methods of movement analysis led us to look at how emerge this "ordinary" skill : the jump considered more often as the result of exercices or uncontrolled learning. The purpose of the research is (1) to identify the onset and the patterns of jumping (2) to determine the constriants for the jump down, which allow not to underestimate the importance of the vertical dimension in the realisation and the representation to the activity (3) to look at two main difficulties of spontaneous jump : the thrust and the stopping movement. It has been demonstrated that the difficulty to realize a flight could be explained by the absence of the stage in preparatory jump before 26 monts and that, this constraint is overcome by a new postural dynamic organization before the stopping movement. This research was carried out on children aged from 2 to a 3, period during which jump emerges and stabilizes. However, the anticipated representation of action does not seem to allow a generalization and a felxibility similar to those of adults

Full textThis study probes the social construction of the international sport's success with specific reference to the achievement of Moroccan runners in French athletics. It shows that this success must be understood in the relation of the colonial development of an athletic elite in Morocco and of the advent of a professional market in France caracterized by a high level of insecurity. Then, rather than the simple consequence of a supposedly innate talent or than the automatic product of what is called globalization, this sporting success results from a dissymetrical relation of power between Morocco and France, and between migrant runners and local organizers ; from a set of concurrences (which exceed the time of the single competition) ; and from a long and unconscious process of physical and symbolic transformation immanent to athletic field in the end of which the runner who succeed perceives himself as a good runner and becomes able to conduct perfectly his career in all its aspects

Full textThe subject of this work is, through sociocultural characteristics of athletes who were at international level in athtletism between 1945 and 1972, to analyze the social dynamics of athletic elite during this very particular historic period in France called "les Trente Glorieuses" (Fourastié). For that, an interpretative reading of international athletes'life stories is implemented round eight themes : their social sphere, their school capital, their sports capital, the number, of people in the family they come from, their place in the fratrie, their particular family configurations, their geographical origins and their individual trajectories. Recurrences and divergences noticed in about a hundred biographical notes (pieced together from questionnaires and semi-directive talks) are interpreted thanks to a confrontation between objective given information and subjective formulation connected with these eight themes. This "dynamics from inside" (Balandier, 1971) identified in that way, is in its turn analyzed on looking at historical context ( "dynamics from outside"). This approach of French athletic elite in the years 1945 to 1972, unpublished in socio-historical litterature and in the methodology used, is based on the sociology by Bourdieu (Bourdieu, 1976; Davisse & Louveau, 1998; Defiance, 1979; Lahire, 1995; Pociello, 1981)
