Full textIn recent decades the shortcomings of consumption of fossil fuel has been clarified. The primary aspects of the shortcomings are asserted when evaluating the limited resources of oil, natural gasses, coal and uranium, secondly, the traditional energy eliminates a huge amount of pollution to the atmosphere. The resources of this fuel were created by nature in hundreds millions years, and during not full latter century the humankind has used more than a half of it. In modern-days world the most important question is the buffering of climate change and provision of energy. The finding of alternative ways for the fossil fuel provides a possibility to look wider to the renewable energy resources. In cases of Lithuania and Latvia, the states must find and use wider alternatives; firstly, due to the dependence on the imported fuel, secondly, due to the balancing of the sustainable development of energy. Lithuania and Latvia seek to get possibility choosing energy resources individually, especially those making less impact on the climate and assuring independence from the external providers. Therefore, the biggest perspective in these states is to develop biomass, hydro-energy and wind plants. The usage of the aforementioned resources has the biggest potential in the field of energy, in order to implement the goals and guidelines of the national energy of Lithuania and Latvia. In order to implement the alternative projects, there is a need of strong governmental support and... [to full text]

Full textThis work analyzes the use of renewable energy resources (wind, hydro and biomass burning) and the effectiveness of their environmental impact. From the pending renewable energy sources in Lithuania we have the highest prospects for wind energy, especially offshore, and biomass burning. Hydropower development opportunities in Lithuania, the typical plains region, where the energy potential of rivers is small and flooding areas causes’ significant ecological damage, prospects are limited. Renewable energy resources impact to the environment is very different. The biggest environmental impacts of hydropower, the smallest - biomass burning derived electricity.

Full textDecreasing resources of traditional fuels, global climate warming, radioactive environmental pollution, air polluted with SOX, NOX and other toxic substances. It’s just a little piece of negative effect of traditional energy production. Aim to have enough energy without harming the environment encourage government institutions, scientists and public take action to design technology that could supply humankind with energy without polluting the environment as today’s energy production does. Wind energy – one of the ways we can satisfy energy needs without significant side effect for environment and human. Wind energy is still a new kind of energy production witch receive much critics from skeptics. That’s why it is so important to estimate the side effects for environment and human. Aim of this study is to estimate attenuation of sound. Also it was important to compare the frequency range witch different wind turbine emits. Field study was carried out to measure the sound pressure levels in the near distances from the wind turbines. Results show that threshold for noise limit for a night period wasn’t breached even then the measurements were taken in daytime, with 8 m/s wind speed. It was estimated that in 7 m/s wind speed wind turbine Vestas V100 emitted 315Hz – 630Hz frequency sound. In the wind speed of 8 m/s wind turbine Enercon E40 emitted 250Hz - 2000Hz frequency sound. In the wind speed of 3 m/s wind turbine Enercon E70 was responsible for higher values of 12,5Hz - 63... [to full text]

Full textOver the last decade policy analysts around the world demonstrate a growing interest in future studies. It is influenced by the need to foresee economic, social or political changes in rapidly developing world. For a long time future studies in political and social sciences were considered unreliable. However, in the recent years, foresight became an important part of strategic planning, thus scenario building method is more and more often used by policy analysts. Uninterrupted and reliable energy supply is one of the main pillars of country’s national security. Future development of the energy sector depends on many variables such as the growing energy demand, the technological development, the liberalization of the energy markets etc. Therefore, if countries want to prepare properly for possible changes, consistent and rational political planning is needed. It is very important to assess the future challenges, possibilities and the most likely trends of development, whereas scenario building is the most suitable method for reaching these objectives. The main objective of this research paper is to build possible energy security scenarios for Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. First of all, to achieve this objective one needs to define energy security and scenario building method. It is also important to review the energy sector of each of the three countries, in order to find strengths, weaknesses and main threats to their security. The EU common energy policy has a direct... Full textThere is a discussion of global Post Kyoto climate change problem and elements of its protection. There is an analysis of world suggestions for Post Kyoto climate change. There is analysis of Post Kyoto climate change mitigation regimes for Lithuania. There is performed SWOT analysis of climate change politics in different economics sectors. Dinamics of greenhouse gases in different sectors is provided. According to structural model of the work it was investigated that climate change investigation methods till 2020 will minimize the emissions of GHGs 20% or 30% comparing with 1990 will double the prices of electricity and the growth of GDP will be less 2%- 3%. These things affirm the hypothesis of the work. The best means for climate change mitigation should be applied in the sector of energy: the saving of Energy, the use of recommense reserves in technology; the inovation and modernisation of technologies. The use of recommense reserves for the producing of energy would have positive influence for the economy of Lithuania despite the fact of growing prices of eletricity.
