Abstract:
This article is directed to study "Features of Nigerian English" in Everything Will Come by Sefi Atta. The English known as Nigerian English (NE) is a variety of English that stands between Pidgin (a grammatically simplified form of a language with elements taken from local languages, used for communication between people not sharing a common language) and the world's standard English. The English used in West Africa reveals varying degrees of vernacular influences at the morphological, syntactic and semantic levels; as well as at the phonological level of spoken and written English. And that may be the reason why in many novels written by Nigerians, we notice some vernacular languages and some forms of deviation in the above-mentioned aspects which all together can be termed as "Nigerian English". The study uses a descriptive research design and the theories adopted are New Criticism and Russian Formalism.

Abstract:
This paper looks into the language of Sefi Atta’s Everything Good Will Come from a sociolinguistic perspective. It aims at pointing out instances of gender inclusive language and assertive idiolects from female characters. In actual fact, most of the earlier literary productions, as argued by a few scholars (Ojo-Ade, 1983; Fonchingong, 2006 and Koussouhon 2009), have come to display features of sexist language with docile female characters in subservient positions. This investigation is carried out under the scope of inclusive language and female assertiveness, as advocated by feminists and exponents of language equity. It has basically consisted in identifying and analyzing passages of the novel in which instances of inclusive language and assertive from female characters are noticeable. The findings reveal that Sefi Atta avoids using male-dominating/sexist language and draws on inclusive idiolects to collectively refer to both male and female characters. Moreover, she portrays her female characters as most assertive as possible. This is why the work concludes that Sefi Atta, like other feminist writers, espouses the women emancipation cause.

Abstract:
Clause-linking mechanisms are subject to cross-linguistic variation. As far as non-subordinate clauses are concerned, any combination of two clauses may show two predicates mutually equal or different in terms of finiteness: these are known as co-ranking and clause-chaining structures, respectively (Longacre 2007: 375). Clause-chaining constructions show two structural possibilities, namely medial-final and initial-medial chaining, depending on whether the more-finite verb follows or precedes the less-finite one. Clause-chaining constructions are found in unrelated language families scattered across the globe, including Afroasiatic (Longacre 1990). However, the existing typological literature on the topic has totally neglected Berber, another Afroasiatic language. This work focuses on a clause-linking strategy found in Ayt Atta Tamazight (Berber, henceforth AAT) and in other Berber languages, the so-called Chained-Aorist construction (henceforth C-AOR). Stemming from my fieldwork on AAT, this paper provides an innovative typological analysis of C-AOR, analysing it in terms of initial-medial clause chaining.

Abstract:
Foreign and domestic scientists have been studying the mutual influences of the Udmurt and Turkic languages. For more than a century, this issue has been covered in a sufficient number of publications. However, the problem of Udmurt-Turkic contacts had not yet been fully resolved. This work is devoted to verification of the origin of lexemes dating back to the Turkic source. The Udmurt words italmas ‘Trollius europaeus’, końi̮ ‘squirrel’, the dialect word atta ‘all the time, constantly’, as well as the Russian word belka ‘squirrel’ are considered. The etymologies of these words have been repeatedly studied, however, the problem of their origin remains unresolved. The study found a satisfactory explanation of the origin of the considered lexemes. We have presented additional arguments in favor of the existing etymologies for phytonym italmas ‘Trollius europaeus’, which derived from the Kipchak *it almas ‘like a diamond’ (< ‘dog diamond’). We propose to denote the Turkic dialects of the Kipchak type with which the ancestors of the Udmurts contacted from the 10th to the 14th - 15th centuries by the term “ancient Tatar language”. In addition to the above phytonym, the zoononym końi̮ ‘squirrel’ goes back to the same source, but the ancient Tatar word *kӧn did not name the animal, but designated the skin of the animal. Along the way, the etymology of the Russian word belka ‘squirrel’ is considered. It may be a calque from the Tatar akcha (акча) ‘money’. For the word atta ‘all the time, constantly’, which was considered a continuation of the Tat. khatta (хәтта) ‘until, even’, we proposed another Tatar source - harwakytta (һәрвакытта) ‘always, all the time’, which experienced lexical-morphological and phonetic transformations on the basis of Udmurt language.

Abstract:
YouTube as one of the most popular online platforms today, has brought millions of videos with a variety of entertaining and useful content and has made millions of internet users get access to YouTube. This benefits the content creators so they are competing to make interesting, unique and high-quality videos. Considering the increasing number of YouTubers and Vloggers appearing in Indonesia along with the large number of subscribers indicates that their emergence has become a new trend among the younger generation today.
Therefore, this research is worth making to investigate the effect of the variety of Indonesian You Tuber and Vlogger on young people's language behavior. The research data is derived from a number of videos uploaded by IndonesianYoutuber and Vlogger by filtering representative content. To obtain the data on the effect of Indonesian You Tubers and Vlogers on the language behavior of the younger generation, it was carried out through questionnaires, interviews, and observations of youth groups to be able to hear firsthand variety of their languages. The data retrieval is done on sampling method of some contents of Youtuber and Vlogger analyzed, then listening to the language used both verbally and non verbally, after that note-taking and documenting the language variety. The data were qualitatively analyzed by appying several sociolinguistic theories. The results of the analysis were descriptively presented to reveal the variety of languages used by well-known Youtubers and Vlogers such as Atta Halilintar, Ria Ricis, Raffi Ahmad, etc. by using light and easy to understand language such as the word gaeess, kuy, tercyduk
Youtuber or Vlogger's style of language has an impact on the language behavior of the younger generation today, where they often adopt their favorite Youtuber language style, especially jargon and slang words that often adorn teenagers' conversations today. However this cannot be said to have a negative effect on language behavior because they are quite selective in absorbing and using the Indonesian Youtuber's and Vlogger's language styles.

Abstract:
This article studies the derivational system of gender and number in Ait Atta variety of Amazigh language. Thus, the following claims are made: first, gender is overtly marked on feminine nouns by the prefixation of the gender morpheme t-. The paper argues that [t…t] is not a circumfix or a discontinuous morpheme, but it is an asymmetric inflection. In the derivational system of gender, large majority of nouns allow for gender opposition. However, mass nouns allow only for one lexically determined gender and number. Moreover, masculine has no overt realization in Amazigh language. Vocalic initial nouns fall into the category of masculine nouns. I argue that the initial vowel is a nominal marker. I submit that the noun, in general, consists of maximally three main parts: a prefix, a lexical base, and a suffix. Second, the majority of Berber noun stems involve, at least, one vowel in addition to the prefixal vowel (e.g. ‘a-ḍar’ foot, ‘a-funas’ bull, 'a-ɣrum’ bread). Third, when the plural noun is specified as [+feminine], it takes the gender morpheme t-. Fourth, number takes the form of a feature assigned lexically to the noun. The study provides a templatic analysis to account for internal noun change. It implements Lahrouchi and Ridouane (2016) analysis of diminutives and plurals in Moroccan Arabic and argues that sound plurals in Amazigh language are associated with standard Num projection, while id/istt-plurals are associated with lower in the structure with n projection.

Abstract:
This degree project aims to yield new knowledge about oral communication in English classes by investigating whether and to what extent students are given opportunities to develop their communicative abilities. A socio-cultural and pragmatic perspective was adopted and previous research was thoroughly examined. The study rests on the scientific approaches hermeneutics and phenomenography, which also influenced the methods used to collect data, that is, interviews and observations. This study includes four informants who are teachers in years 3–6. These teachers were interviewed and observed during one English class each, which means that their respective groups of students also participated in the study. The results show that English was the language used most frequently in the observed classrooms. The teachers in the study describe problems with using English Only in their classrooms as the students are on different levels of English proficiency. Furthermore, the results show that collegial cooperation is necessary if an expanded and comprehensive view of English teaching in years 1–6 is to be achieved. Finally, the participating teachers expressed a need to develop their own knowledge in teaching English in order to meet the requirements of communicative language teaching expressed in the curriculum.<br>Mitt arbete syftar till att bidra med ny kunskap om muntlig kommunikation under engelsklektioner genom att undersöka huruvida elever ges möjlighet till att utveckla sina kommunikativa förmågor.

<p>This research shows and analyses how pupils in ninth grade in the nine-year compulsory school look at being multilingual, at the Swedish language and at Swedish as a second language. I also want to know if language and culture knowledge are taken care of in school as it says in official documents for the Swedish school and as it also is desired in an intercultural education. For my research I do eight interviews in a suburb school south of Stockholm.</p><p>My work includes a limited account for the current research about being multilingual, Swedish as a second language and about the close relationship between language and culture. The applied theory is a social constructivist theory which in short can be explained like that we construct social structures that have consequences on the individual as well as on the society.</p><p>I show in my research how the view of the world around the pupils influences their view on their languages, their school and their neighbourhood. I also draw conclusions from my interviews that language knowledge is little appreciated in school and that Swedish as a second language has a low status.</p>

Abstract:

Abstract:
<p>On the annexation of Jämtland by Sweden in 1645, Danish clergymen were allowed to remain on condition that they officiated in the Swedish language.</p><p>This dissertation investigates the changes in the written language of one of these Danish clergymen and is based on the parish register kept by the Rev. Olof Bertilsson between 1636 and 1668. The premise for this study is that individual variations and alterations in written language do not occur arbitrarily, but display systematisation and express social consensus. The analytical basis for this approach is derived from Alexander Zheltukhin’s work on orthographic code theory and employs concepts used in sociolinguistics, but also borrows ideas from theories of mixed languages and second-language learning.</p><p>Between 1636 and 1646 Olof Bertilsson displays a highly stable orthographic code with few variations. Following his attendance at the Riksdag (the Swedish Parlament) in Stockholm in 1647, a distinct change is evident in his orthography. Changes occur quite early in the spelling of some place-names, personal names and important and frequent ecclesiastical terms.</p><p>A decisive factor in determining when and how change occurs is his access to examples of Swedish texts. In the last decade of his life, an influx of Swedish clergy, increased contacts with Swedish officials and help from young clergymen with a Swedish education, contribute to a predominance of Swedish forms in Olof Bertilsson’s individual orthographic code.</p>

Full text
Abstract:
Since language is a basic factor in the psychotherapeutic conversation, it is of interest to learn more about its significance. The purpose of this study was to examine the experience of the verbal significance of language in the psychotherapeu-tic conversation; it emerged through the psychotherapeutic approach to language development and language use, patients' language development and language usage and difficulties in psychotherapy. Method: The study used a qualitative method and interviewed five Leg. Psychotherapists with a psychodynamic orientation. The result shows that psychotherapists consistently look at the verbal language use as something that has a motion in the psychotherapeutic use of language, based on theories about the patient's language usage. Language development in the patient considered to arise from both the caregiver-child relationship and in what social context in which the child has grown up. Patients before psychotherapy had diffi-culties in the use of language, which complicated their lives, improve their language use after completion of psychotherapy. This in turn results in altered relational and social skills. Discussion: Psychotherapists focus was directed towards the patient's language development and language, and how this then affects how the psycho-therapist uses their language. Psychotherapists didn’t think the language development and language use, can affect how the patient uses language. The result demonstrates therefore a habit of psychotherapists to understand and reflect on their own part in language use.

Full text
Abstract:
During the last years of his life, Poggio Bracciolini (1380-1459), former Apostolic Secretary and Chancellor of Florence, was working on a long text that he characterized, in a letter written in 1458, as lacking a well-defined structure. This was most probably his history of the people of Florence (Historiae Florentini populi, the title given in Jacopo’s dedication copy to Frederick of Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino), revised and published posthumously by Poggio’s son, Jacopo Bracciolini (1442-1478). Contrary to what is often assumed, Poggio’s treatise was not a continuation, nor even a complement, to Leonardo Bruni’s (1370-1444) official history of Florence. It concentrates on the most recent history of Florence from the fourteenth-century conflicts between Florence and Milan through Florentine expansion in Tuscany and finally reaching the mid-fifteenth century. This article will study the genesis and fortune of the work in the context of Poggio’s literary output and the manuscript evidence from the mid-fifteenth century until the first printed edition of the Latin-language text by G.B. Recanati in 1715.

(c. SPRING 2009) [Kanuri trans. team and Atta Barkindo] Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jeowy05QfBw This video is a lecture of Shekau, leader of Boko Haram after 2009, in the Kanuri language, and is undated. From the contents, speaking as it does of Yusuf having been in Abuja, it was probably delivered during the early spring of 2009 (on the evidence of him alluding to “seven years” of the group’s history, as it was founded in 2002). The style of this lecture is folksy, hortatory, and, comparatively speaking, there is little citation of the Qur’ān or exegesis...

Attia, Élodie. "On Some Variants in Ashkenazic Biblical Manuscripts from the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries." In Semitic Languages and Cultures. Open Book Publishers, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.11647/obp.0207.14.

Full text
Abstract:
Élodie Attia examines the question of the relationship between early Ashkenazic Bible manuscripts and the Tiberian tradition as recorded in the earliest Tiberian manuscripts, especially the Leningrad Codex and the Damascus Pentateuch. The main Ashkenazic manuscript chosen for the study is Vat. Ebr. 14. The study challenges an earlier claim by Pérez Castro that early Ashkenazic Bible manuscripts were far removed from the Tiberian tradition in comparison with Sephardic manuscripts. Attia shows that by enlarging the corpus of Tiberian manuscripts and by including Ashkenazic manuscripts earlier than those previously studied, the relations between the two corpora appear more complex than has hitherto been believed.

Abstract:
Abstract James Barr, in an article that is interesting for its philological acumen and its interpretative thrust has successfully removed the muzzle from the Sea. The Sea has not remained free of attempts at not only muzzling it, but also of splitting it, drying it out, and destroying it by any means available. Those of us brought up on the biblical tradition have it in our bones that the Sea was parted, be it the Red Sea or the humbler Reed Sea. The qeri at yam suf at the Exodus (Exod. 14) is an archetypal miracle of mythic proportions in the Jewish tradition. It serves among the later prophets as a model for God’s returning the Jews from their Babylonian captivity, and indeed from other captivities too. The theme was popular and the phrase qaseh kiqrVat Yam Suf ‘as difficult as the Splitting of the Sea’ is well known. This popularity is reflected in the Dura-Europos synagogue.

Abstract:
Abstract The aspectual system of Koyukon' is perhaps the most elaborate of the Atha- baskan languages. It has a complex network of four modes, 15 aspects, four superaspects, four postaspectual derivations, and some 300 aspect-dependent derivational prefix strings, allowing thousands of distinct and very precise characterizations regarding the time frame and type of verbal notion expressed.

Abstract:
PhD-student Charlotta Engberg, Professor Michaela P?rn &amp; PhD Katri Karjalainen The aim of the paper is to describe the challenges in developing Classroom tandem as a model for second language education for virtual learning environments in Finland. Finland is officially a bilingual country, where both the Finnish-speaking and the Swedish-speaking language groups are taught parallelly in monolingual schools according to the law. However, both language groups learn the other second national language as a subject in school. Classroom tandem as an instruction model for second language education was introduced in Finland in 2012, based on tandem as a language learning model, meaning that two persons learn the languages of each other in reciprocal cooperation and thereby switch languages. The tandem partners act in turns as the learning part in their second language and as the model and support in their first language. (Karjalainen, P?rn, Rusk &amp; Bj?rkskog, 2013). Tandem is divided into face-to-face tandem and eTandem (Brammerts &amp; Calvert, 2003; K?tter, 2002). Classroom tandem relies strongly on physical face-to-face meetings. However, these meetings are not possible to organize in all schools in Finland, due to the lack of closely located Finnish- and Swedish-speaking partner schools. Therefore, eClassroom tandem is now being developed in cooperation with language teachers as an applied virtual form of Classroom tandem. The challenge in developing eClassroom tandem mainly includes issues dealing with technology, task design and virtual cooperation between tandem partners. In order to increase the understanding of potentially existing virtual cooperation in all Swedish-speaking upper secondary schools in Finland with Finnish-speaking schools and schools abroad, a survey (based on interviews with 34 principals in 2015) was made. The results show that the most typical form of cooperation is however physical visits between schools, while extended virtual cooperation is rare. According to the principals' view the cooperation is however not always pedagogically organized, and therefore there is a need to pedagogically develop the virtual cooperation practices for language education. One possible model for this cooperation is eClassroom tandem, which increase the opportunities for second language learning in authentic situations with students of the same age, even in strongly monolingual areas. Abstract:
Attack-Incomplete Abstract Argumentation Frameworks (att- iAAFs) are a popular extension of AAFs where attacks are marked as uncertain when they are not unanimously per- ceived by different agents reasoning on the same arguments. We here extend att-iAAFs with the possibility of specifying correlations involving the uncertain attacks. This feature sup- ports a unified and more precise representation of the differ- ent scenarios for the argumentation, where, for instance, it can be stated that an attack α has to be considered only if an attack β is considered, or that α and β are alternative, and so on. In order to provide a user-friendly language for spec- ifying the correlations, we allow the argumentation analyst to express them in terms of a set of elementary dependen- cies, using common logical operators (namely, OR , NAND , CHOICE , ⇒). In this context, we focus on the problem of verifying extensions under the possible perspective, and study the sensitivity of its computational complexity to the forms of correlations expressed and the semantics of the extensions.
