Abstract:
This article discusses some of the key issues of mental health talk in general, both in attitude as well as in words, and dwells upon the difficulties this can pose for interpreters. Subsequently, ways to deal with these difficulties are given. The issue of empathic stress is touched upon. It is argued that, with general background knowledge of disorders and treatment methods and with support to deal with emotional situations, interpreting in mental healthcare will be a very rewarding type of work. Without such preparation and ongoing support, interpreters may not always be able to join into the therapeutic communication properly, which may harm the progress of the treatment and may also hamper their own feelings of well-being and job satisfaction.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the gap between the need for mental health care and the actual receipt of such care, and the barriers that contribute to this gap. These barriers include attitudes such as stigma, negative attitudes about the benefits of mental health treatments, and lack of perceived need for care. Another set of barriers is related to the structure of services such as scarcity of providers, geographical distance, and inadequate health insurance coverage of mental health services. The chapter describes theoretical models used to understand the process of treatment-seeking and examples of initiatives that have been used to overcome barriers to care. Among these initiatives, public campaigns aimed at increasing awareness and recognition of mental disorders and at reducing stigma, and legislative initiatives aimed at increasing insurance coverage for mental health care have received public attention. Future initiatives to improve access to services and reduce the treatment gap would benefit from a better understanding of the process of treatment-seeking and barriers to mental health treatment.

Abstract:
Many studies have proven that parental stress was associated with childhood mental disorders and disabilities, and in recent years, studies have shown that parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) experience more parenting stress than parents of typically developing children. Parents living with a child with ADHD experienced stress as they struggled to cope with the child's symptoms amidst the stigmatizing attitudes from family and community members. The chapter tried to explore various factors related with parental stress and ADHD such as quality of life, parental rating of ADHD symptoms and related issues, treatment outcome, marital life, and mental health. One of the important factors contributing to stress is stigma, and the chapter also attempted to explore the link between parental stress and stigma, especially related to ADHD and its interventions. The chapter emphasized the role of mindfulness training for treating ADHD and parental stress while pointing out the methodological limitations.

Abstract:
High quality interventions, which employ an extended contact model, wherein stories, roleplaying, and other appealing informational media are used to promote more positive intergroup attitudes, tend to be effective at enhancing the attitudes, intentions, and interests of typical children toward their peers with differences. The following four studies assess the efficacy of The Realabilities comic book series and the Addy & Uno off-Broadway musical, which promote kindness, empathy, and a stop-bullying platform while teaching about disabilities and/or mental health disorders. The studies include 1) a qualitative study of 19 fourth grade students from an elementary school in Paramus, NJ, who viewed the Addy & Uno off-Broadway musical and participated in the full Realabilities educational comic book series intervention; 2) a qualitative study of 20 high school students with diverse disabilities, who participated in the full Realabilities comic book series intervention; 3) a quantitative study of 76 students from a high school in Long Island City, NY, who read the first mental health-based Realabilities comic book; and finally, 4) a quantitative study of 66 students from a high school in Long Island City, NY, who read the first and second mental-health based Realabilities comics. The researchers used a coding system to find principal themes in the qualitative data and used modified versions of the adjective checklist (ACL) and shared activities questionnaire (SAQ), along with a knowledge measure, to assess quantitative changes from pre to post-testing of the comic book series. Study findings help support the efficacy of an extended contact model and suggest that programs like these may serve as useful antidotes to counter negative attitudes of children and adolescents towards disabilities and mental health disorders, respectively.

Abstract:
The complexity of psychosocial care for the homeless population with substance use disorders starts from its specific characteristics such as extreme poverty, social vulnerability, and being itinerant, as such traits conflict with the bureaucracy of health systems. Treating this population consists of promoting basic self-care that ensures survival and the search for respect and human dignity so that, gradually, the topic of harmful consumption of alcohol and other drugs can be addressed. The interpersonal relations ensure a safe space for dialogue about the problems related to substance use, and the possible decision to stop or reduce their consumption. However, behaviours such as transgression, impatience, and intolerance should be expected when working with this population. This chapter starts with a brief introduction to the homeless population and epidemiological data in Brazil. It then describes some psychosocial approaches that can be used for the homeless with alcohol and substance use, such as harm reduction, contingency management, motivational interviewing, Housing First programmes, assertive community treatment, intersectionality, access, and street clinics. While working with the homeless with substance use disorders, professionals need to adopt a respectful attitude and contribute to the deconstruction of stigmas and prejudices. Also, working with this population means setting short-term goals with low demands. To conclude, it is a priority to ensure social minimums and access to intersectoral policies that promote health and quality of life.
