Abstract:
People's attitudes towards the conservation of Australian wildlife is of particular importance as the types of attitudes people hold can have a significant impact on conservation solutions. We investigated attitudes held towards Australian wildlife and conservation solutions. A sample of 312 residents participated in an online questionnaire. An ‘ecoscientistic’ attitude was the most commonly held attitude, highlighting that wildlife are appreciated for the role they play within our ecosystem. There was a significant association between age and attitude towards Koala Phascolarctos cinereus and Crownof-thorns starfish Acanthaster planci conservation and a significant association between socio-economic status and attitude towards Brush-turkey Alectura lathami conservation. Most participants agreed that action should be taken towards wildlife conservation in the future. Conservation managers and other key stakeholders need to capitalise on this information to increase public support for Australian wildlife, and encourage conservation action. Significant associations between attitude and some sociodemographic characteristics were observed, however more research between attitude and sociodemographic associations is recommended, including in other regions of Australia and internationally.

Abstract:
Aims: Our survey has been aimed at identifying the society attitude towards people with mental illness in Slovakia. Method: Selected group comprised 1,624 adult respondents with 18 years of age as the bottom limit. We applied reduced 26-item Community Attitudes Toward Mentally Ill Scale (CAMI) to the survey of the society attitude towards people with mental illness. Results: Average score reached by the respondents reached 94.0800 points, indicating lower stigmatization rate than presumed. Further investigation revealed prejudice and stigmatizing attitudes at significant part of the population. The survey confirmed statistically significant differences at the attitudes in the terms of gender ( t = −6.559, p = .000), age within the categories (χ2 = 20.358, p = .000), education ( F = 9.137, p = .000), socio-economic status (χ2 = 50.487, p = .000) and occupation (χ2 = 47.989, p = .000). We also confirmed statistically significant relation between the attitude and age (−.085**, p = .001). Conclusion: The survey confirmed rather neutral up to slightly positive attitude of the Slovak population towards people with mental illness. Existence of attitudes burdened with fear was revealed in some cases, indicating the need for continuous education of the society in this subject matter.

Abstract:
ICT is increasingly widespread, influencing educational systems worldwide. The effectiveness of ICT in any educational reform movement should not be taken for granted. ICT educational tools can be a transformative tool that may facilitate meaningful learning in physics courses if educators are willing to embrace it with a positive attitude. Teachers are the key to the appropriate integration of technology in the educational system. The attitude of physics teachers has a tremendous effect on its integration in physics classrooms. This research paper is aimed to examine the attitudes toward the use of ICTs among Lebanese secondary physics teachers. A sample of 141 secondary physics teachers was assessed for their ICTs’ attitude using a Likert type questionnaire. The questionnaire focused on the teachers’ effect towards ICT, aware of usefulness and their confidence to use ICT. This research paper discussed the overall profile of physics teachers’ attitude towards ICT implementation and the difference in teachers’ attitude towards ICT among teachers’ gender, years of experience and age. The results of both descriptive and inferential statistics showed a positive attitude towards ICT and no gender, years of experience or age differences among physics teachers’ attitudes. Implications for teacher training and suggestions for further research are provided.

Abstract:
Student's attitude towards mathematics is a global issue that directly influences the students' achievement in mathematics. The study aimed at investigating the students' attitudes towards mathematics and the effects of demographic variables on their attitude in the selected grade IX Students in Provence No 1, Nepal. The study has adopted a quantitative survey design. A total of 540 grade IX students were selected randomly and the revised attitude scale ATMI of Tapia and Marsh (2004) was adopted to find out their attitudes towards mathematics and the effect of demographic variables. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and multiple linear regressions. The results of the study showed that the students' attitude towards mathematics is positive. Similarly, the effects of students' attitudes towards mathematics in terms of demographic variables (age, gender, family type, parent's education, parent's occupation, school location, and ecological region) were found low. The attitude of the students at a different age level showed a greater decline in attitudes as the students increase their grade level. However, the results showed that other considerable variables may have more impact on students' attitudes towards mathematics.

Abstract:
The issue of attitude towards technology is not a new one; it has been around since computers were first placed in the classroom. There appears to be a positive attitude towards technology, so researchers aimed to seek out new information in an effort to find the relationship among teachers’ tenure, age, educational level, experience and teachers’ attitude toward technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude towards technology among teachers working in several institutes in Mazandaran. A total of 100 teachers including 38 males and 62 females, ranging in age from 22 to 50 and 20 to 42 respectively completed a survey. The non-parametric Spearman Rank-Order Correlation was used to find the relationship between the variables. The result of the research questions showed that: (1) there was a statistically significant relationship between teacher experience and attitude toward technology, (2) there was a statistically significant relationship between teacher tenure and attitude towards technology, and (3) there was a statistically significant relationship between teacher age and attitude toward technology.

Abstract:
Background: The population of older people is increasing worldwide. The social and healthcare systems need many nurses to care for the elderly. Positive attitudes increase the preference to work with older people and improve the quality of care. This study describes attitudes towards the elderly in a sample of nursing students, and analyzes the potential factors influencing these attitudes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in nursing students during the academic course 2017–2018. Kogan’s Attitude Toward Old People Scale was used to assess student attitudes towards older people. Results: The study included 377 undergraduate nursing students, of which 75.9% were women. The mean age was 22.23 (5.69) years. Attitude proved positive, with a mean Kogan’s score of 131.04 (12.66). Women had higher scores than men, with a mean difference of 7.76 (95% CI: 4.87–10.66; p < 0.001). The male sex, age ≥ 25 years, and previous experience with institutionalized older adults worsened attitudes, while studying the subject of geriatrics, each higher course within the degree, work placements in hospitals and nursing homes, and previous experience with community older adults or with older relatives favored a more positive attitude. Participants with no interest in working with older adults yielded lower scores. Conclusions: Attitudes towards the elderly among nursing students are positive. Women have a more positive attitude. Analyzing the factors that improve attitudes in nursing students is suggested, as it may contribute to improve nursing care.

Abstract:
Computers and computer‐assisted instruction are being used with increasing frequency in the area of health science student education, yet students’ attitudes towards the use of e‐learning technology and computer‐assisted instruction have received limited attention to date. The purpose of this study was to investigate the significant predictors of health science students’ attitudes towards e‐learning and computer‐assisted instruction. All students enrolled in health science programmes (n=2885) at a large multi‐campus Australian university in 2006‐2007, were asked to complete a questionnaire. This included the Online Learning Environment Survey (OLES), the Computer Attitude Survey (CAS), and the Attitude Toward Computer‐Assisted Instruction Semantic Differential Scale (ATCAISDS). A multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the significant predictors of health science students’ attitudes to e‐learning. The Attitude Toward Computers in General (CASg) and the Attitude Toward Computers in Education (CASe) subscales from the CAS were the dependent (criterion) variables for the regression analysis. A total of 822 usable questionnaires were returned, accounting for a 29.5 per cent response rate. Three significant predictors of CASg and five significant predictors of CASe were found. Respondents’ age and OLES Equity were found to be predictors on both CAS scales. Health science educators need to take the age of students and the extent to which students perceive that they are treated equally by a teacher/tutor/instructor (equity) into consideration when looking at determinants of students’ attitudes towards e‐learning and technology.

Abstract:
In the quest of equipping the pupils with the digital skills required to work in the 21st century knowledge economy, the government of Kenya plans to provide laptops to every primary school class one pupil. If this is to be successful, the question of teacher attitude towards computers is central. This paper presents the results of a survey to study and examine the attitudes of the primary school teachers towards computers. In addition, the study investigated the effects of age, gender, teaching experience, level of education, and computer experience on computer attitude. Data for this study was collected among 114 primary school teachers from Siongiroi Division, Bomet County, Kenya. Measurement tools used was the Computer Attitude Scale (CAS) by Loyd and Gressard (1984). The data acquired was analyzed using descriptive statistics and an analysis of variance (ANOVA).The results indicated that although the teachers have positive attitudes towards computers, they have low confidence level in using the computers. The study also found that the primary school teachers, despite their differences in gender, age, teaching experience and level of education, did not differ significantly (in statistical sense) in their computer attitude. Since teachers portray positive attitudes toward computers, efforts should be geared towards reinforcing the existing positive attitudes. This study highlights the importance of uplifting teachers’ confidence level in using computers

Abstract:
Due to the ageing population, an increasing number of older workers form the labour force. Unfortunately discriminatory practices against older workers are well documented and the antecedents of such discrimination are assumed to be negative attitudes towards older workers. No previous research has investigated implicit attitudes towards older workers or their behavioural consequences. Accordingly, the present research aimed to investigate both implicit and explicit attitudes towards older workers, and their predictive utility in an employment-related context. In addition, attitude malleability and the role it may play in the attitude-behaviour relationship was investigated. This thesis reports findings from 5 studies, a pilot study and 4 main studies. The pilot study determined that the Implicit Association Test (IAT; A.G. Greenwald, D. E. McGhee & J. L. K. Schwartz, 1998) was to be used in the main studies. The 4 main studies investigated implicit attitudes, and the malleability of such attitudes towards older, relative to younger, workers. The malleability of attitudes was investigated with a mental imagery intervention where the experimental group participants were asked to imagine and describe respected and valued older workers in their surroundings. The control group participants were asked to imagine holiday destinations they would like to visit. In general, it was expected that negative implicit and explicit attitudes would be found towards older workers but that such bias could be alleviated with a mental imagery intervention. In all studies, negative implicit attitudes against older workers were found and such attitudes were relatively uninfluenced by the mental imagery manipulation. Three studies included explicit measures of attitudes. Although some variation was found between the studies and the measures used, overall positive attitudes towards older and younger workers were found. The mental imagery manipulation was also found to influence the explicit attitudes to a greater degree than implicit attitudes. The final study investigated the relationship between attitudes and behaviour. Specifically, both implicit and explicit attitudes’ relationships with spontaneous and controlled-type behaviours towards an older and a younger target were examined. Overall, some evidence for youth-bias in the participants’ behaviour was found, as well as evidence for the relationship between explicit attitudes and spontaneous behaviours. Implicit attitudes were largely unrelated to behaviour. In general, the mental imagery intervention did not impact the attitude-behaviour relationship. Implications for older workers are discussed, as well as educational methods for reducing discrimination older workers face in employment.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the relevance of individualisation theory in the attitudes of 18 to 30 year olds living in Britain. It tests four theories of couple relationships that can be located in this debate; two prominent theories of individualisation (Beck and Beck-Gernsheim, 1995; Giddens, 1992), a theory of social exchange (Rusbult, 1980) and a socio-cultural theory of romantic love (Giddens, 1992; Jackson 1993; Burkitt 1997). In considering how these four theories might be relevant to the attitudes of 18 to 30 year olds two different ways are explored. The first is concerned with how the theories might be relevant to the attitudes of 18 to 30 year olds as a social group in terms of which theory seems most reflective of the attitudes of this population as a whole. The second is concerned with how the theories might be relevant as psychological types, to explore whether different types of attitude could be identified in the 18 to 30 age group and whether the models in any way map onto these types. The study also explores how attitudes towards relationships might differ between different demographic and socio-economic groups in the 18 to 30 population. The research design has four elements; the first involves exploratory interviews with six relationship counsellors, the second involves the analysis of data from the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (1990, 2000), the third involves the creation and validation of a self-completion attitude instrument, the fourth involves the analysis of the primary data collected via this instrument from a representative sample of 18 to 30 year olds living in Britain. One of the main statistical techniques used in analysing the survey data (both Natsal 1990, 2000 and the primary data) is cluster analysis. This is used to identify groups who have similar attitudes to one another and therefore investigate whether one can distinguish between different attitude types. The key findings of this research indicate that, in the attitudes of this age group at least, traditional values and desires pervade. While there have been some shifts that indicate a loosening of traditional values and desires, on the whole young adults seem to desire traditional relationship forms, namely monogamous live-in partnerships, and value qualities consistent with them, namely fidelity and longevity. Further, this research shows evidence for both a theory of romantic love and individualisation theory as attitude types. Finally, it shows that measures of age, sex, religiosity, ethnicity, country of origin, class and education are all associated with attitudes towards relationships.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the differences on gifted student&rsquo
s attitudes toward science and their preferred classroom climate during science classes based on gender and grade level. Two questionnaires, the Test of Science Related Attitudes (TOSRA) and the Individualized Classroom Environment Questionnaire (ICEQ), were used as survey tools in this study. A group of 163 gifted and talented students among four academic levels which are eighth grade, English prep class, ninth and eleventh grade were assigned to take part in this study. The data obtained from administration of measuring instrument were analyzed by using Two-Analyses of Variance (ANOVA). Result indicated that grade level of students had a significant effect on attitudes towards science. The study found, first, lower-grade students show more positive attitudes toward science than the students at higher-grade level. Secondly, there are significant differences were found among students in their perceptions of the science classroom environment based on their gender and grade level. Female students expected more personalization than male students, higher grade students preferred to have more independence and more differentiated classroom environment than lower grade students while they are learning.

Wernow, Mary Ellen. "Traditional College-Age Students' Attitudes Toward Arnold's Seven Building Blocks Decision-Making Strategy." PDXScholar, 1989. https://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/1337.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to learn more about the attitudes of traditional college-age students toward Arnold's Seven Building Blocks decision-making strategy (John D. Arnold, 1978. The Art of Decision Making. New York: Amacom). to identify student characteristics which could predict those students who are most likely to respond in a positive manner to the strategy and to determine which of the steps in the strategy students perceive as being helpful. The sample population consisted of 62 traditional college-age students currently enrolled in four Oregon educational institutions. Data was gathered through the Decision Making Inventory (Johnson, Coscarelli, and Johnson. 1983) and two questionnaires designed for this study. An attitude score regarding the Seven Building Blocks was constructed for each subject by adding together the scores from the two questions which specifically related to student feelings about using the strategy. This resulted in scores ranging from a low of 2 to a high of 7. Statistical analyses involving chi-square tests implemented by contingency tables were used to ascertain the level of association among variables. The results showed no significant difference in attitude based on the internal or external dimensions of decision-making styles. Age, gender, life responsibility status, or type of decision situation. Statistically significant results (p < .05) were shown for the remaining variables. Thus, for this population, characteristics associated with high attitude scores toward the Seven Building Blocks included systematic rather than spontaneous, decision-making styles; at least two years of college education; and high or very high importance attached to being a good decision maker. Building Block 4. "Establish Your Priorities," was overwhelmingly seen as being the most helpful step, followed by Block 3. "Set Your Criteria." Block 6. 'Test the Alternatives." was third, and Block 2. "State Your Purpose." was fourth. Block 5. "Search for Solutions," and Block 7. 'Troubleshoot Your Decision." tied for fifth place. Block I, "Smoke Out the Issues." was seen as being the least helpful. Information obtained from this study will assist educational counselors, advisors and teachers in understanding student attitudes toward decision making and in predicting which students are most likely to respond positively to learning and using this type of decision-making strategy. It is recommended that further study done in this area include investigation regarding the construction of attitude scores, as well as further corroboration of the predictor variables identified. .

Abstract:
Digitalization is changing the world, and the retail industry is no exception. The new technologies are affecting retail in multiple ways to increase sales and customer satisfaction. This change is being observed in the physical stores as well as new online markets. The customers’ role in retail is increasing as self-service systems are taking over cashiers, and an increase in e-commerce websites begs the question if the digitalization is threatening the physical store and the number of employees. The worst case scenario being, digitalization rendering the physical stores obsolete. Managers and consumers have been the focus of previous studies, but little is known of how employees perceive the new forms of digitalization emerging in retail. This study examines front-line employees’ attitudes toward digitalization in the retail industry by answering the questions; what are the retail employees' attitudes toward digitalization? Do they differ depending on the industry? Which, if any, factors are affecting employees’ attitudes toward digitalization? This quantitative study has used a deductive approach to construct a cross-sectional survey. The survey has been used to answer the research questions, fulfill the studies purpose, and bridge the gap in research regarding employees’ attitudes. The results show that employees’ attitudes are somewhat positive toward digitalization, and evidence was found of multiple differences between the industries - employees’ attitudes toward digitalization being no exception. The study found that how useful employees perceive digitalization, their personal usage, and what industry they work in are factors affecting employees’ attitudes toward digitalization. This study can be used as a foundation for further study in multiple fields with a focus on retail employees and attitudes. The results of the study also have a practical contribution as it provides evidence of factors which could influence employees’ attitudes. This is of value for managers who can use the results of this study to better influence and manage the attitudes of employees.

Abstract:
This chapter is undertaken in a Philippine research context that has been described as mired in wicked problems. In the age of the Anthropocene and faced with increasing pressure to become research productive, this chapter contends that the state of research in a Philippine context is highly-complex. Using a cross sectional design, a questionnaire on educators' attitudes toward educational research was used to determine its underlying dimensions and correlate them with educators' demographic characteristics. A total of 286 volunteered respondents from selected universities/colleges in selected regions in the Philippines participated in the study. T-test, Anova, Pearson correlation, Factor Analysis, and Structural Equation Model was used for data analysis. Findings of the study determined that research training is very important to improve educators' research skill and have better understanding of research output. Prioritizing it requires time, effort and resources to learn and make use of research. It is also important to consider that the school administrators' moral support and mentoring have a great factor in educators' motivation to conduct quality research. Decreasing or eliminating the barriers to research requires strengthening their positive attitude towards research.

Abstract:
"One of the major concerns among the relevant public authorities during the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic is the attitude and behavior of the Malaysian society regarding compliance with self-care Covid-19. Although the number of Covid-19 cases is decreasing, public authorities, such as the Malaysian Ministry of Health continually remind people to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Covid-19 to reduce the number of cases. To support the authorities’ efforts, a one-day self-care Covid-19 programme involving 10 youths (3 males & 7 females) with a mean age of 17.35 (SD=3.36) was implemented in Bongol village, Tamparuli. To adhere the Covid-19 SOP regulation which prohibits a large number of people from gathering in a confined, crowded and closed spaces, only a few participants were involved. The programme, which was conducted at the Bongol village community hall, involved various organized activities emphasising the three elements of attitude: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Before the programme began, all the participants were registered, and their body temperatures scanned to ensure that they were free from any Covid-19 symptoms. Each participant was given a mask and a small bottle of hand sanitiser that could be used throughout the programme. The activities comprised an ice-breaker, a talk on personal self-hygiene, a 20.02-minute self-care video produced by 28 psychology students, personal self-reflections by the participants, a group exercise, a community song, and a two-way discussion on self-care. The Covid-19 self-care programme, implemented with guidance from the Yale Attitude Change Model, emphasizes the practical issue of ‘who says what to whom and with what effects. The participants’ attitude was measured before and after they completed the one-day programme. The results of a Wilcoxon signed-ranked test study showed that there is a significant difference between the participants’ pre- and post-study attitudes towards self-care. The study results showed that the Covid-19 self-care programme, which is based on the social psychology approach, can help foster positive youth attitudes towards self-care. In regard to the authorities’ efforts to lower the number of Covid-19 cases to zero, it is suggested that each party needs (either governmental and non-governmental agencies) to support the Covid-19 campaign and programme by sharing and delivering self-care messages in creative ways to Malaysian communities, especially those in rural areas."

In International Psychological Applications Conference and Trends. inScience Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36315/2021inpact055.

Abstract:
"Entrepreneurs, as the most active social group sensitive to public mood, perhaps feel the changes in the time of life in a digital society (time pressure illusion) most of all. On the other hand, the very internal temporal organization of a person involved in entrepreneurial activity can determine the characteristics of his or her mind and behavior in the economic sphere. The aim of the study is to reveal the impact of the psychological time of the representatives of small businesses on their economic minds. The study involves 109 representatives of small businesses in various fields (wholesale and retail trade, education, tourism, consulting, production, etc.), registered in the Chelyabinsk region and operating in the Russian Federation (mean age 34.9, 42% male). The respondents completed electronic forms of Inventory of Time Value as an Economic Resource (Usunier), Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory, Attitudes towards Time (Nuttin), and Inventory of Polychronic Values (Bluedorn). To diagnose the features of the economic mind of entrepreneurs, the Economic Attitudes Questionnaire (Deyneka & Zabelina, 2018) was used. Regression analysis showed that certain components of psychological time (positive attitude to the past, present and future, the value of time as an economic resource) determine the formation of constructive economic attitudes of small business owners, namely the value of independent economic achievements, willingness to invest, unwillingness to sacrifice vocation and health for money, financial optimism. Thus, the lack of fixation on past failures, a positive attitude towards the present and the future, the ability to transfer time into money create a psychological foundation for the formation of entrepreneurs' attitudes in economic life. The results can be used in the consulting of the future entrepreneurs."

Abstract:
On a global scale, tourism is an actively developing industry, which is of great importance for the development of the economy of many regions of the world. Satisfaction of the local population with the development of tourism is closely related to the opportunities for active participation in the decision-making process on tourism development. The level of satisfaction with tourism can show the feelings and attitude of the residents toward tourism, and in particular, to tourists. Satisfied local people are more hospitable and willing to provide tourists with the necessary products and services. This paper aims to study the attitude of urban residents towards tourism and its development on the basis of a survey conducted among residents of Bishkek by random sampling. Bishkek is the capital of the country and the largest number of registered economic entities in the tourism sector is focused in Bishkek. Respondents (N=190) attitude toward tourism varied according to their age, education, gender, marital status. The study showed that urban residents have a mostly benevolent and supportive attitude to tourism. Among the negative consequences expected from tourism development is related with the risk of rising prices in accommodation facilities. The results can be useful for policy makers, business representatives, local government and researchers.

Abstract:
The aim in our study was to determine the importance of digital competences and attitudes regarding research to teachers, according to various variables such as gender, age, and level of studies. A questionnaire was used to gather information from 28 teachers at the Escuela Normal de Educacion Primaria “Rodolfo Menéndez de la Peña”, in México. The questionnaire was developed based on Aldana y Joya (2011), and the GIDU-EDUTIC/IN research group from the Universidad de Alicante. The questionnaire comprises 48 questions on the importance of digital skills and 50 questions on attitudes towards research. All questions use a Likert scale with 5 answer options. Cronbach's Alpha was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. It was found that the questions related to the importance of digital competence an alpha equal to 0.912 and for the questions of attitudes towards research an alpha equal to 0.854. It was found that teachers considered important the five digital competences dimensions. It also was found that they considered that creativity and innovation as the most important dimension and the use and access of information as the less important. The participant teachers’ attitudes towards research were more neutral. It was found that the cognitive dimension was the one with the highest score, while the behavioral dimension the one with the lowest score. It is concluded that training needs are detected to improve their digital skills and their attitude towards research, the need for further research on the effect is perceived that could have for the development of research groups in this institution.

Abstract:
In a world where the use of IT and communication technologies is a key feature, they represent the core element in education, involving changes in educational policies, both in setting goals and in developing strategies, providing resources and training specialists. One of the recommendations of the new education focuses on the organization of learning contents so they can use computer applications in learning, teaching and assessment processes. The present article "Integrating educational software in the activity of preschoolers" aims to demonstrate the need to use IT technologies by introducing educational software in the study process of children in kindergartens. The use of educational programs at kindergarten level proves to be an effective learning tool that causes significant changes in acquiring knowledge and changing attitude towards learning. Children prefer to gather knowledge through educational programs rather than through traditional methods and means, which contributes to creating a positive attitude towards learning and improving the quality of their results. At the same time, in order for new technologies to prove their effeciency, it is absolutely necessary for teachers to respect the instructional design of digital materials, the rules of didactic planning and the individual and age particularities of children.

Abstract:
Background: Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency is a district where filariasis is endemic. In 2018, the Microfilaria rate (Mf rate) was 1.33% and is the only district / city in Jambi Province with an Mf rate > 1%, so mass treatment was performed again for 2 years (2017-2018), but cases have still been identified. Novelty in 2019. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the incidence of filariasis in the physical, biological, social and cultural environment and the dominant factors in the incidence of filariasis. Subjects and Method: This was a case control design conducted in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency from March to July 2020. Total of 84 patients with filariasis were enrolled in this study. The dependent variable was the incidence of filariasis while the independent variables were the socio-cultural environment and individual characteristics (age, education, occupation, income, level of knowledge, spending habits of the day, preventive measures, and compliance with prophylactic medication), attitude (physical environment), The data were collected using questionnaire and environmental observation. Data were analyzed using a multiple logistic regression. Results: Most of patients with filariasis were male (61.9%), had low education (73.8%), was a farmer, and 60% had a job at risk of developing filariasis. Age (OR = 0.16 ; 95%CI= 0.06 to 0.41), education (OR = 4.50 ; 95%CI= 1.56 to 12.96), occupation (OR = 4.66, 95% CI = 1.76 to 12.31), adherence to taking prophylactic medication (OR = 4.70, 95% CI = 1.83 to 12.04) were affected on the filariasis incidence. Adherence to taking prophylactic drugs was the most dominant risk factor for filariasis (OR = 12.97; 95% CI = 3.35 to 50.15). Conclusion: Following control for resting place, occupation, age and height of residence, the most dominant factor in the incidence of filariasis is adherence to taking prophylactic drugs. Abstract:
How are natives attitudes towards migrants shaped by economic crises? Natives could show more compassion towards migrants as everyone faces a common threat. Alternatively, natives prejudice could rise as competition for scarce economic opportunities increases. We conduct an online survey to 3,400 Colombian citizens and randomly prime half of them to think about the economic consequences of COVID-19, before eliciting their altruism and attitudes towards Venezuelan migrants. We find that natives attitudes towards migrants are substantially more negative in the treatment relative to the control group. Individuals ages 18 to 25 years, however, respond to the treatment by showing more altruism.

Abstract:
Using microsurveys conducted in the People’s Republic of China over the past 2 decades, this paper explores the individual preferences among men and women toward sustainable consumption and production—the concept of doing more with less and decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation. The study finds that women exhibit greener living and working habits than men. However, women—regardless of education, rural–urban setting, or age—are impacted by time poverty, low political participation, limited awareness, gender norms, and, for younger and older women, financial limitations. To encourage and increase women’s capacity in shaping environmental solutions, economic and political gender gaps must be addressed and awareness on the impact of consumption needs to be strengthened.

Abstract:
The present article reviews various concepts of participatory science and research and discusses their potential to exhibit impact on the relationship between science and society. Starting with an overview of rationales, concepts and challenges, different forms and intensities of participatory approaches in research and innovation are discussed. We then look at the situation in Austria and sort selected Austrian funding programmes and initiatives into a diagram according to the intensity of participation as well as the social groups involved in each case. Finally, we try to gain more precise indications of the impact of participatory programmes on the relationship between science and society. Many questions remain unanswered, as precise analyses and evaluation results are usually lacking. While different surveys provide insights into society’s level of information on a general level, interest, involvement and attitude towards science and research, approaches for impact assessment are fragmented and remain on the surface. We therefore propose to develop an analytical framework based on existing approaches and to include collaboratively developed indicators in it.

Full text
Abstract:
This rapid review searched for literature on how and why women continue to struggle in Somaliland to achieve formal political representation and to take on informal decision-making roles on local peace and political matters, from community to national levels. Women’s participation in peacebuilding and political decision-making in Somaliland is very limited. A key barrier is the clan system underpinning Somaliland’s political settlement. Entrenched and politicised, patriarchal clans exclude women (and other minority groups) from formal and customary leadership and decision-making roles. Other contributing factors are conservative religious attitudes and traditional gender norms. Structural inequalities – such as low levels of education, lack of funds, and high levels of violence towards women and girls – impede women’s participation. Some women are more disempowered than others, such as women from minority clans and internally displaced women. However, there is increasing disillusionment with clan politicisation and a growing recognition of women’s value. There are opportunities for framing gender equality in local cultural and religious terms and supporting grassroots activism.

Knight, Ruth, and Kylie Kingston. Gaining feedback from children in The Love of Learning Program. Queensland University of Technology, November 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5204/rep.eprints.206154.

Full text
Abstract:
This report details both the process undertaken to develop an evaluation instrument that can collect feedback from children in the Love of Learning program and feedback the children have provided. A total of 178 children who are beneficiaries of the program completed the survey, and 91% confirmed the program was positively supporting them. They provided their feedback using a 20-question survey which measured four protective factors that previous research suggests supports children to engage with and enjoy learning, helping them to thrive in school and life. The protective factors are known to foster social, emotional, and academic development and success. There is a strong positive association between these factors, and the results of the survey suggest the Love of Learning program is influencing children's attitude towards learning and school. This report highlights some of the design challenges and complexities when engaging children in participatory evaluation. Importantly, to ensure children are given an opportunity to provide feedback, they must be supported by their foster carer who need to also feel informed and confident to be part of the evaluation process and empower children to speak up. Further research will now be conducted to implement the evaluation process more widely and ascertain if the protective factors improve a child’s health, educational engagement, and performance.
