A positive attitude is a powerful tool that fosters enthusiasm, promotes self-esteem, and creates an atmosphere conducive to learning. Achievement in a target language relies not only on intellectual capacity, but also on the learner’s attitudes towards language learning. Attitudes could be viewed as a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain thing, idea, person, situation etc. The attitudes that the students should have are attitude towards the language, attitude towards learning the language, attitude towards the language teacher, and attitude towards school in general. This study focuses on discussing about encouraging students to have positive attitudes toward learning English.

Abstract:
The attitudes of medical students are important as they influence recruitment to psychiatry. In order to better understand the attitudes of medical students towards psychiatry and the impact of psychiatric clerkship, the authors administered a questionnaire eliciting information regarding demographic data, attitudes and career choices to third year medical students of the University of Ottawa, at the beginning and end of their four week psychiatric clerkship. The data suggests that the students found their clerkship experience valuable and rewarding and expressed an interest in knowing more about psychiatry. The students' perception of the various aspects of their clinical practice of psychiatry became more positive after the clerkship. The authors have identified the positive and negative experiences the students had during their clerkship and postulate that the change in attitude is directly due to their clerkship experience.

Abstract:
Attitudes toward statistics have received a great attention by academic and researcher in statistics and mathematics education. This paper investigates students’ attitudes towards statistics in one of the Malaysia higher education institution and determined the factors that explain the attitude of students toward statistics. Stratified sampling method was used to select 274 respondents from 18 classes Elementary Statistics course. The attitudes toward statistics were measured using the Survey Attitude Towards Statistics (SAT-36) scale. Factor analysis was applied to identify the factors on students’ attitude toward statistics. Findings from factor analysis revealed that seven factors that explain the attitude of the students were self-determination, cognitive competence, effort, value of statistics in professional life, difficulty, statistical solving and value of statistics in everyday life. The results suggested that statistics should be demonstrated in more practical way for developing more positive attitude towards statistics. This could further promote the learning process and students’ ability to apply the statistical concepts.

Abstract:
Student's attitude towards mathematics is a global issue that directly influences the students' achievement in mathematics. The study aimed at investigating the students' attitudes towards mathematics and the effects of demographic variables on their attitude in the selected grade IX Students in Provence No 1, Nepal. The study has adopted a quantitative survey design. A total of 540 grade IX students were selected randomly and the revised attitude scale ATMI of Tapia and Marsh (2004) was adopted to find out their attitudes towards mathematics and the effect of demographic variables. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and multiple linear regressions. The results of the study showed that the students' attitude towards mathematics is positive. Similarly, the effects of students' attitudes towards mathematics in terms of demographic variables (age, gender, family type, parent's education, parent's occupation, school location, and ecological region) were found low. The attitude of the students at a different age level showed a greater decline in attitudes as the students increase their grade level. However, the results showed that other considerable variables may have more impact on students' attitudes towards mathematics.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to investigate students in classes 1-2-3-4, studying Pyschological Guidance and Counselling (PGC) at a university in T.R.N.C. (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) in their relationships with their parents and their attitudes towards marriage. The study includes 325 students and was conducted during the spring of 2015-2016. ‘Personal information forms’, ‘İnönü Marriage Attitudes Scale, ‘Attitudes towards Parents Scale I and II’ have been used in order to collect research data. The viewpoints of the student PCG group, who work with child and family, have been particularly focused in connection to all of these. The findings revealed that female students’ attitudes towards their mothers are better compared to that of male students. However, in terms of gender, no connection was found between attitude towards their father and their attitude towards marriage. As female PCG students’ attitude towards their mother increases, so too has their attitude towards their father and their attitudes towards marriage. For the men whose parents are still together (not separated), there is no link between their strong attiudes towards their parents and their attitude towards marriage. It has come to light that female students, whose parents are separated, have a stronger attitude towards their mother and father. No connection was found between the students’ parents being married or having separate living arrangements and the students’ gender. Male students with parents who live separately have a stronger approach towards their their mother and father.

Abstract:
In this study, the relationships between the attitudes and anxieties of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students about science have been examined. The data have been gathered from a personal data form, anxiety towards science and attitude towards science questionnaires. The effects of such factors, as obtaining assistance with science and technology from outside the classroom, age, gender, class level, school-type variables have been investigated according to their impact on the attitudes and perceptions of the students towards science, and on their anxiety towards science. It has been found that when the students received science-related assistance, it caused significant differences in their attitudes toward science and related anxieties, yet there was no significant difference in terms of gender. Moreover, school-type and class level affect students' attitudes and anxieties towards science. It is believed that increasing the positive science attitudes of the students and decreasing their anxiety will improve success. Key words: anxiety towards science, attitude towards science, primary school, science education.

Abstract:
BACKGROUNDTeenage pregnancy is a multifaceted problem which is influenced by numerous issues including individual, family, and community characteristics. Its consequences affect the health, social and economic wellbeing of the teenagers and their children. The attitudes and behaviors of maternal healthcare providers were an essential component of quality as they impacted both positively and negatively on how the clients, their partners, and families observed and experienced maternal healthcare. This study was conducted to determine the general attitudes of student nurses towards teenage pregnancy and also to determine whether socio-demographic characteristics of the student nurses affected their attitude towards teenage pregnancy.METHODA quantitative descriptive, cross-sectional study was done in 2018. A total of 87 randomly selected fourth year student nurses completed a self-administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). The study was approved by our local ethical boards and all ethical considerations were adhered to.RESULTSThe results of the study revealed that majority of the participants (93.1%) were single and attended church (90.8%). The majority of the sample was female (96.6%) between the ages 18–24 years old. The respondents' attitudes towards teen mothers were not affected by their relationship status, their age or gender or church attendance The results further revealed that the nursing students' had a moderately positive attitude towards teenage pregnancy. The only sociodemographic variable that affected attitude was the respondents having a teen mother in the family. The respondents with a teen mother in the family accounted for 29.9%.CONCLUSIONThis study adds to the body of knowledge on the attitudes of nursing students towards teenage pregnancy. The findings support the nursing curriculum that accentuates patient-centered care, reduce bias, and promotes professional values in Jamaica in order to deliver care to this vulnerable group.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the attitude levels of students receiving education at university level towards sport with regard to certain variables. The research was designed with the scanning model. A “sport attitudes scale” was applied to a total of 547 students, selected by random sampling method, who were studying at Balikesir University. The research findings revealed that the participants’ attitude levels regarding sport were at a “high attitude” level, with an average of 3.70±058. It was determined that participants who did sport regularly had a higher attitude level. It was also determined that according to the education department variable, students receiving sports education together with those in the economics faculty had higher attitude levels. As for the grade level variable, it was revealed that the lowest attitude level belonged to third-grade students.Consequently, with the aim of increasing university students’ attitude levels regarding sport, it is recommended that they be given the opportunity to do more sport and that they be given guidance in this direction.

Abstract:
Background Antibiotics resistance is a major public health threat worldwide. Super bugs, for example, drug resistant tuberculosis or Staphylococcus aureus, are increasingly common in the communities. Hong Kong is one of the areas which have the highest antibiotics resistant strains prevalence rate in the world. Irrational use of antibiotics is an important contributing factor to the emergence of antibiotics resistance. Physician stewardship in the prescription of antibiotics is pivotal in the prevention of antibiotics resistance emergence. Medical students are going to be practicing doctors after graduation from medical school. But few studies had been conducted to investigate their knowledge and attitude towards antibiotics resistance and use, and relations with anticipated antibiotics prescription behaviour. Method 145 medical students at the University of Hong Kong were recruited in this study to complete a self-administered questionnaire. There were in total 14 questions in this questionnaire, covering 2 major themes 1.Self-report of current and past antibiotic use and behaviour; 2.Anticipated prescription behaviour of antibiotics upon graduation and practice in the future. Chi-square test was used to investigate the association between attitude and knowledge of antibiotics with their anticipated prescription behavior upon graduation and practice. Multivariable logistic regression model was used to adjust for potential confounders. Results 67.6 % of the participants hold the correct knowledge of the proper use of antibiotics. Compare with the participants who hold the wrong knowledge, they were to 0.18 times more likely to inappropriately prescribe antibiotics for non-complicated Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI). (OR: 0.18, 95 % CI: (0.08, 0.43); p <0.001). Respectively 33.6 % and 4.9% of all the participants perceived the severity of antibiotics resistance in Hong Kong as “Severe” and “Very severe “. Those who rated “Severe” or above were 0.37 times more likely to inappropriately prescribe antibiotics for non-complicated URTIs compared with the participants who rated “Neutral” or below. (OR: 0.37, 95 % CI: (0.15, 0.91); p = 0.03). Logistic regression model was employed to test the interaction effect. Result showed that clinical training significantly interacted with antibiotics knowledge (p < 0.01)and perceived severity of antibiotics resistance (p = 0.02) in their relations with inappropriate prescription for non-complicated URTIs. Conclusion For the medical students who have received clinical training, those who were more aware of the severity of antibiotics resistance in Hong Kong were less likely to inappropriately prescribe antibiotics for non-complicated URTI. For the medical students who have not received clinical training, correct knowledge of antibiotic use is associated with less inappropriate antibiotics prescription behaviour. These suggest that knowledge and attitude towards antibiotics resistance and use are important factors that may impact on physician stewardship in antibiotics use in the community.

This study aims towards high performing students’ perspective on motivation and how they consistently obtain high grades in English classes. Different characteristics from Skolverket’s study that were common for high performing students along with Reeve’s self-determination theory was used as background research. Qualitative interviews were used to analyse the high performing students’ perception of how they are challenged in English classes and how they motivate themselves. The results show that high performance in English classes is not so much an innate ability, which some are born with, but rather a question of motivation and character.

Abstract:
An essential part on the way to a sustainable society is each individual’s perspective on handling consumption. To develop a sustainable attitude towards one step in the consumption process, such as recycling, is a way to prevent environmental problems. This project aims to design through informal education and social innovation a solution for increasing the rate of waste separation among students in Sweden. In order to do so, it focuses on students at Linnaeus University in Växjö as an example and it responds to the local needs. It supposes collaborations with student associations, Linnaeus University, recycling companies and Växjö municipality. The solution proposes an innovative framework formulated to develop the habit of separating waste. Through informal education, it intends to deliver the knowledge and create the social space for practice and connection necessary in developing the proposed habit. The theoretical perspectives include design for learning in the context of waste separation, while gamification and learning by doing are tools for development. Several methods are used throughout the innovation process. Among these, conducting a workshop is the main one for defining the design project.  The project can be considered a social innovation because it responds to the students’ needs of connection and self-worth, addressed through knowledge about recycling, awareness and interaction, and to the needs of the Swedish society of a higher rate of waste reparation.

Abstract:
Research is an important part of an academic career, yet it is not always frequently practiced by most students. This descriptive-correlational research aimed to find out the external factors that influence students’ attitudes toward research. We sampled 201 undergraduates at Wenzhou-Kean University and analyzed their responses to the questionnaire in order to determine the relationship between possible factors and their attitudes. The results revealed that the external factor of the training environment has a moderate positive influence on research attitude, while support from the university has a strong positive influence on research attitude. Specifically, factors of faculty support, curriculum design, on-campus academic activities, library service, and financial support all moderately influence students’ attitudes towards research in a positive way. The most salient influential factor of all is faculty support. The results suggested that to improve students’ attitudes towards research, sufficient support is vital, especially academic and financial support. Therefore, to externally encourage students to conduct academic research, faculty and university could give more consideration to support provision.

Abstract:
The present study examines the attitudes towards the relationship between theory and practice of students in the context of teaching-oriented Master's programs. The data are based on the project “intensity and stability of job-related attitudes in teacher training” (ISabEL), which was conducted at the University of Flensburg. The study analyses the change of student's attitudes towards the relationship of theory and practice during a practical semester. The attitudes were measured using a self-developed scale, which was developed on the basis of a qualitative reconstruction of Thon (2014). The results reveal that the contradiction between theory and practice tends to increase after the practical semester.

Abstract:
This study concerns the teaching/leaming experience of Data Analysis at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP), Technical University of Lisbon, first in Sociology course, and next in Social Communication course. In both cases, Data Analysis subject was teaching/leaming of the discipline of Mathematics and Statistics for the Social Sciences. This study aims to find the effect of the use of new technologies on teaching/leaming the Data Analysis subject, and, more than that, it wants to know if this use can reduce the effect of negative experiences when learning Mathematics. From the used dataset, based on a questionnaire, we first profiled students, based on Latent Class Models; then we concluded that the negative attitude toward Mathematics’ learning until the 9 year (compulsory) schooling, influenced their performances on the Quantitative Methods (QM) subject, at the secondary level, but the same did not happened with the Data Analysis’ performance at University.
