As of today, the banking sector is one of the most risky types of economic activity. This is primarily due to the fact that banking institutions deal with borrowed and attracted funds. Their own funds, in the form of charter capital and reserves, perform protective and regulatory functions. The main task of banks is using the attracted funds as efficiently as possible. Therefore, effective management of bank credit activities will allow for profit generation and avoidance of significant losses of attracted funds. Abstract:
The analysis of effectiveness of risk capital in the Polish banking sector have become the main aim of the study. In the article, statistical and econometric methods were used, based on a linear regres-sion model of net profit in relation to the value of own funds of the banking sector in Poland in the years of 2002–2016. Next, through the quartile method, there were estimated the relations between effectiveness and a level of risk capital of the largest banks in Poland. Abstract:
In the last two decades there has been an increased contribution of the private sector, through some form of public-private partnership (PPP), to finance transport infrastructure in general, and roads in particular, in both the developed and developing worlds. Such contribution has helped several countries to maintain, rehabilitate and expand their road networks, including the construction of new motorways, bridges and tunnels. Some governments have increased the public contribution to potential PPP road projects to make them attractive to private investors. Such support may take the form of g

Abstract:
Financial Intermediary Funds (FIFs) are a type of trust fund that provide large-scale funding for broad, coordinated interventions that are typically focused on specific themes (see section 5) and aimed at achieving Global Public Goods (GPGs). FIFs provide the global development community with multilateral platforms that are independently governed (see section 3) and support multiple implementing entities. FIFs add unique value and strength to the development finance toolkit – especially when there is a global call for collective action for a GPG requiring large-scale additional pooled funds;

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to offer a brief analysis of the social investment funds for indigenous people that have been financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and to consider how far they have been effective in meeting the needs of indigenous people. This paper identifies two types of targeting mechanisms: 1) Inclusive funds that do not distinguish indigenous people from other sectors of society based on ethnicity; and 2) Exclusive funds or components intended only for the indigenous or ethnic population. The author discusses the merits of both approaches and identifies four fact

Abstract:
We use high-frequency interbank payments data to trace deposit flows in March 2023 and identify twenty-two banks that suffered a run—significantly more than the two that failed but fewer than the number that experienced large negative stock returns. The runs were driven by large (institutional) depositors, rather than many small (retail) depositors. While the runs were related to weak fundamentals, we find evidence for the importance of coordination because run banks were disproportionately publicly traded and many banks with similarly bad fundamentals did not suffer a run. Banks that survived

Abstract:
We measure the reaction of search for income in mutual funds to supervisory-induced dividend restrictions on euro area banks during the COVID-19 pandemic, which operated as an exogenous shock to payouts in this sector. Using granular data on euro area-based mutual funds’ holdings, we show that demand for dividends motivated portfolio decisions in this period and that these decisions had implications for stock returns. Specifically, we document that there were more sales of bank stocks by income-oriented funds after payout restrictions were set in place. These funds were however less inclined t

In April 2015, the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, commissioned the research team to prepare a report on the effectiveness of some recent venture capital (VC) fund investments in Latin America. This report contains the research team's findings. This report focuses on three funds in which the MIF has invested. Using these funds as case studies, chosen to represent different investment approaches and company stages, the team explores two dimensions of impact: first, the direct impact of fund managers on portfolio companies is consi

Abstract:
The timely disbursement of funds is a necessary condition for the success of international development projects. Disbursements track the progress of projects in completing the products that ultimately will deliver the projects desired outcomes. Moreover, in a world with pressing needs for external financing, project disbursements are an important source of external liquidity for recipient countries. However, some projects start disbursing faster than others and at relatively larger amounts. Hence learning why some projects disburse faster than others is important to understand not only which p
