SummaryThe surface energies of highly hydrated casein micelle layers isolated from variously pretreated skim milks have been determined by means of contact angle measurements. The long range Lifshitz-Van der Waals (LW) and the short range hydrogen bonding (SR) components of surface energy were determined using α-bromonaphthalene and water for contact angle measurements. Casein micelles isolated from untreated and heat treated milks showed similar surface energy values of about 63·5 mJ.m-2 with an LW component of 19·2 mJ.m-2 and an SR component of 44·3 mJ.m-2. Another frequency component is drive frequency (fd). Our proposed system enables the independent and simultaneous control of the attractive and thrust force of LIM. In the strong attractive region, a first-order transition occurs from a CSF to a trionic state. Abstract Recent results on three research topics will be presented with the intent of illustrating a range of electrochemical techniques useful in corrosion studies, including potentiostatic and dynamic polarization, rotating disk electrodes and impedance measurements. The first topic considers the small amplitude linear potential scanning technique (SALPST). Because of recent theoretical analysis it has become a very attractive method for measurement of the polarization resistance of alloys in aqueous solutions. The technique has been used successfully for observing protective layer formation

Motivated by applications in knowledge representation and reasoning, modal and description logics have been recently extended with definite description operators. Such operators provide us with a tool for referring to a particular element of a model by stating a property satisfied only by this element. This mechanism resembles the way we refer to objects in natural language, which makes it an attractive component of ontology and query languages. In this paper, we aim to provide a tool for analysing the expressive power of logics with definite descriptions. In particular, we introduce an adequa

Abstract A Ni-Cr-Mo alloy, Alloy N06022 which contains 22wt.%Cr and 13wt.%Mo was investigated to evaluate the alloy’s hot corrosion resistance, especially focused on its use for superheater tubes in waste-to-energy plants. Hot corrosion tests were performed at 550°C using a synthetic ash which contained equivalent amounts of NaCl, KCl and Na2CO4. The results indicated Alloy N06022 had the desirable corrosion resistance for use as a superheater tube. To suppress the volume of the relatively expensive Alloy N06022, a Alloy N06022/Type 304 clad tube was proposed. The clad tube was produced by the

This property combination coupled with their low magnetic permeability values make them suitable for many flow components in the measurement and logging while drilling (M/LWD) systems in the oil and gas industry. However, flow components manufactured from investment cast Stellite 6 alloy (Co-Cr-W-C) have shown that they are susceptible to cracking under operating conditions due to the brittleness of the material and the complex geometry of these

The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a ubiquitous pest of fruit trees, causing significant economic damage both in the U.S. and in Israel. Control efforts in the future will rely heavily on the sterile insect technique (SIT). Success of such operations hinges on the competitive ability of released males. The mating system of the medfly is based on leks. These are aggregations of sexually signaling males that attract females (who then select and copulate a courting male). A major component of male competitiveness is their ability to join existing leks or es

Increasing levels of phytonutrients, such as lycopene, is highly justified from the perspective of the lycopene extraction industry due to cost effectiveness reasons. Sugars-acids ratio dominate fruit taste, whereas aroma volatiles (potent at minute ppb and ppt levels) contribute to the total characteristic tomato flavor. A
