Full textPurpose: The purpose of this study is to examine Attractive work according to Generation Y. This study originates from Åteg, Hedlund, Pontén (2004) model of the attractive work. With the purpose to engender a deeper understanding to the parts which make up the entirety of what makes work attractive according to Generation Y. , Theory: Initially, the study address the definition of Generation Y and what the generation as a homogeneous group tends to value for the experience of Attractive work. Further on, the study presents an understanding for what an attractive work entail. Lastly Åteg et al. (2004) model of an attractive work which builds upon three categories (Arbetsförhållande [working relationship], Arbetsinnehåll [work content] and Arbetstillfredsställelse [job satisfaction]) is being presented. These three categories which include 22 attributes proposes Åteg et al. (2004) constitutes and define the Attractive work. Method: The study was conducted in a case study with 99 respondents. The data was collected by a physical survey which was answered during the respondents working hours. Of the 99 asked to participate 30 answered the survey. This led to a responding frequency of 30,3 %. The data was then processed in the analyzing program IBM SPSS statistics 24 to conclude the empirical foundation. Findings: From the result it was possible to distinguish a pattern from the three categories and their significance to the experience of work attractiveness. The pattern indicate that Arbetstillfredsställelse is of a lesser significance to Generation Y’s experience of work attractiveness compared to Arbetsförhållande and Arbetsinnehåll.

Slutsats: De diskursiva praktikerna som identifierades inom employer branding diskursen i studien var utveckling, flexibilitet, innovation och gemenskap. Med utgångspunkt i det tidigare forskning har fastslagit har den här studien visat på att det idag, inom ingenjörsbranschen, finns påverkningar på individer att vara utvecklingsbenägna, flexibla, innovativa, men också innovationsintresserade, samt vara samarbetsvilliga och trivas i grupp. De diskursiva praktikerna utveckling, flexibilitet, innovation och gemenskap ligger därmed till grund för individers identitetsskapande genom de påverkningar som organisationers diskurser anses ha på individers identitet.

Full textTitle: The process of gentrification –the transformation of declined neighbourhoods into attractive ones Gentrification = ”A social process of change where people with high socioeconomic status move into neighbourhoods which traditionally has been dominated by people from the lower classes or from ethnical minorities.” (Nationalencyklopedin 2010).
In many cities around the world, disinvested neighbourhoods become the place to be, where everything happens. This usually occurs when different social groups, such as bohemians, homosexuals and artists, move into a declined and disinvested neighbourhood. After a while, people from the middleclass move in to the area due to its increased attractiveness, and start to renovate their properties. This usually leads to higher rents, which force some of the original inhabitants to leave the neighbourhood. This is what you can call a process of classic gentrification.
The phenomenon also starts its process due to economical elements and urban renewal. Politicians are often very favourably disposed to the process of gentrification, since the city turn more attractive and the incomes of the new residents greatly increase. But since gentrification’s class related signification and political charge, they often use other words instead, such as urban renewal, social mixing and urban renaissance.
Even if there are some urban planners who try to control this process, for example by subsidies, it seems like the process have a life of its own. Or does it? And what does it really mean for cities on the long run?
This is a study, which examines theories and underlying factors about the process of gentrification, its gentrifiers and its future.

Full textThis case study in Helsingborg, Sweden is done with a qualitative method where six interviewers were made with both property owner, cooperative organization and shop owners to get the picture from several perspectives. The purpose of the study is to investigate how property owners work to keep the city centre of Helsingborg attractive in contest of the threat from e-commerce and shopping centres, as well as the effects it has on vacancy and rental levels. I this paper we present theories of supply, demand, place marketing, place development and rents. The results of the study show that the main strategy to meet the threat from e-commerce and external commerce and how the strategy is to develop the value of a location. The vacancy rate reflects how attractive the city centre is, which makes it important for the locations to possess something unique that other commercial locations have a hard time to mimic. To develop an attractive city centre, every stakeholder must work together, which is something that the cooperative organization strives for. The property owners also have a major role in how the area is being developed since they are the ones who decides what businesses is placed in an area. The result of the study is that the cooperative organization is a big factor in maintaining and developing the value of a location.

Full textPublic transport is an important mode of transportation in today’s society. In Stockholm county large changes are occurring within public transport, because of the population rise that is happening in the county. In many places within the public transport system, a multiple of different types of public transport are meeting. In these places, there has to exist functional station environments. This thesis aims to answer the research questions about how the functions accessibility, safety, usability and equality, together with children’s needs, are treated in the planning phase of stations and how these functions in the built environment are fulfilled. The theoretical foundation of this thesis includes an extended literature review, where the functions were studied in relation to physical planning and the perception of station and the environments surrounding them. The practical part of this thesis has consisted of making case studies of three stations in Stockholm county, and to research the preconditions of planning that exist in the county. The case studies have consisted of document and field studies. The document study was to analyse planning documents for each station. The field studies were made in each station’s real environment. The documents and the physical environments were reviewed with the tool of using representative indicators, that were decided from the results of the literature review. The indicators were used to systematically assess how the functions were experienced in the station environment and how they were described in the documents. Each indicator is defined in relation to how it affects the different functions and needs. The thesis work resulted in a larger account for each indicator within the stations in the case studies. This by assessing the planning documents and to state facts about the physical environments of the stations. These results were analysed, where each indicator category had its own segment. The analysis landed in the conclusion that the stations in large parts fulfilled the functions and needs, because the indicators were believed to represent largely positive traits.

Full textThe purpose of this research is to examine what factors that appears to be attractive in the work as a unit manager. In order to achieve this purpose, a qualitative research method was chosen, using semi-structured interviews with a sample consisting of unit managers and human resource consultants. The results generated in this research aims to improve the understanding of what factors that appears as attractive in the work as a unit manager. Furthermore, the research also aims to contribute to the understanding of what areas that needs to be developed in order to create an improved and healthier work-environment for unit managers. The results in this study shows that the factors that appears as attractive can be divided into three categories; prerequisites, impact and meaningfulness. This is highlighted in for example the size of the work-group, the level of independence inhabited and stimulation, which appears as factors crucial for the attractiveness in the role as a unit manager. The reason why this study is of vital importance is because understanding the factors that appears as attractive in the work as a unit manager can be crucial in maintaining the unit managers in the workplace.

Full textDet attraktiva Strömsstråket är ett examensarbete i Informationsdesign med inriktning rumslig gestaltning. Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka hur det går att tydliggöra förbindelserna mellan Mälardalens högskola via Strömsholmen till Munktellstaden i Eskilstuna, samt även undersöka vad förbindelserna skulle kunna åstadkomma för staden. Det vill säga hur ett stråk kan bilda möjligheter att knyta ihop olika delar av staden och bidra till att fler tar del av området och väljer att vistas där. Målet med detta arbete är att ta fram ett gestaltningsförslag som visualiserar ett stråk som knyter samman olika delar av staden Eskilstuna och på så sätt även bidra till ett ökat rörelsemönster och skapa sociala mötesplatser där studenter, lärareforskare och andra verksamma på Mälardalens högskola är den primära målgruppen. De metoder som används i detta arbete är rumslig analys, upplevesebubblor,observation, notationsanalys, intervju och foto-/videodokumendation. Dessa metoder har tillsammans med teoretiska utgångspunkter lagt grunden till det slutliga gestaltningsförslaget om en karta som visualiserar en del av ett nytt stråk mellan Mälardalens högskola och Munktellstaden i Eskilstuna.

Full textThe reputation of the Swedish Million Programme has been quite bad since the 70’s, andtoday it is seen as an era without any history or identity. The modernist neighbourhoods isugly, and not seen as parts of the ”real city”. Instead, it is often described as its opposite,something that must change to become a part of what we see as the good city today. Toaccomplish this, neoliberal methods like entrepreneurial urbanism is used to renew theareas and make them attractive. This paper focus on the discourse that have surroundedthe Swedish Million Programme since it was build, and it shows that we still see thesesuburbs as failures. But instead of blaming the capitalist system, it is seen as part of thesolution by means of neo liberal methods.

Full textWith an entirety of 6000 travelers per day Spånga station is one the most frequented stations. The commuter station underwent its latest reconstruction 2004 where only half the station was rebuilt. The adjustments made where not thorough, subsequently dividing the station into two parts from different time periods. This has caused problems with the station floor plans and architectural design. The current floor plans encourage queues and congestion at rush hour in several parts of the station. The cause for this is the placement of the stairs since their location results in the orientation of the building. The project conducted a study which revealed that the main problems arise during rush hour, which is 06: 00-08: 00 for departures to Stockholm Central Station and 16:00-18:00 for arrivals from Stockholm Central Station. The purpose of the project was to create floor plans that provided a more flexible flow pattern for all passengers. The stations exterior design would be formed more welcoming for the travelers. The project is based on answering the question: Is it possible to perform a reconstruction that eliminates the most prominent problems? The station would also be designed so that it became more welcoming to visitors and passersby. The main limitations of this project were the platform predetermined width. The work was also limited to the architectural restrictions of the reconstruction. The aim is to contribute floor plans that provide better arrangements by studies made during the project. Furthermore, the exterior design is meant provide an aesthetically cohesive building. AutoCAD was used to obtain primary drawings and Revit Architecture 2015 to finalize the draft documents. The station's exterior shape is linked together with a glass section that delivers more sunlight into the station. The station has been expanded with two larger waiting rooms providing a more spacious feeling. Draft documents show that the new floorplan has eliminated practically all the problem areas. All the faults with the station could not be abolished for various reasons but mainly due to the restrictions placed by the platforms size. The concept drawings for the new station show that there is a more distinct connection through the stations exterior. The glass section extends around the entire building which creates a link to the remaining parts of the station whilst providing an agreeable view for by-passers and travelers

Full textDen här avhandlingen tar sin utgångspunkt i olika uttryck av samtida regionaliseringsprocesser och regionalism(er). Studien belyser två olika regionaliseringskontexter i form av Värmland och Åttamiljonerstaden. Två i grund och botten mycket olika regioner. Värmland utgör en subnationell administrativ region och därigenom ett exempel och ett uttryck för en decentralisering av statliga uppgifter rörande regional utveckling och tillväxt till den regionala nivån. Åttamiljonerstaden är en imaginär gränsöverskridande region som sträcker sig från Oslo i norr, över Göteborg och Malmö till Köpehamn i söder, där målet är att skapa en sammanhängande och funktionell arbetsmarknadsregion. Trots de båda regionernas olikheter, så kan de båda studerade regionerna ses som ett uttryck för en alltmer normativ policyagenda som grundas på begrepp som globalisering, internationalisering och en konkurrensutsatt marknad. Detta har lett fram till olika former av rumslig strategisk planering som ska stärka respektive regions konkurrenskraft med olika medel. I sin tur leder detta till att olika diskursiva kunskapsrationaliteter om vad som utgör den ”attraktiva regionen” i form av nya styrningsformer, regional organisering och den gode regionmedborgaren implementeras och institutionaliseras i respektive regional kontext.

Full textThe aim of this study is to, from a work psychology perspective, investigate which factors that can affect a nurse’s choice of employer. The study aims to seek out whether a correlation between different factors and nurses desire to change employer can be found, which factors of the workplace that were considered most important and which factors that creates the greatest perceived satisfaction with the work situation. The study has been conducted with a quantitative approach and 115 participants has answered a questionnaire based upon the subject matter. The result of the study shows that nurses working in the private sector are more satisfied with their employer and the greater part of the participants would have chosen to switch to an employer in the private sector. The results also show that is was primarily the factors higher salary and a lower workload that affected the nurses in the public sector tendency to change employer. For the nurses in the private sector, the factors were greater community in the workplace and more patient contact that would primarily affect the choice to change employer. The study states that the most important aspects of the work situation were a satisfying salary, satisfying working hours and to have the opportunity to help others.

Full textThe study's purpose was to examine how a state military authority could work towards being an attractive employer, internally and externally. In order to evaluate the work done by the organization, new recruits were interviewed to examine their perception of the organization's work with employer branding. The questions used to fulfill the purpose were: How does a government agency work towards being an attractive employer? How does the organization work with employer branding, internally and externally, to strengthen the employer brand? How do recruits perceive the organization’s work with employer branding? The method used was a qualitative analysis, consisting of semi-structured interviews. The study involved four individuals with leadership positions, who had responsibility for different parts of the organizations employer branding, and five recruits who were participating in the Swedish basic military training program (GMU). The results were analyzed by using theory and previous research on employer brand, employer branding and generation Y. The results show that the organization works with employer branding by advertising, visiting schools, participating in events and in social media. Internally the organization works with employer branding by, among other things, organizing competitions and other activities for employees, which seemed to boost their job satisfaction.

Full textComplexity and flexibility are two factors that characterize today's labor market; old established patterns are replaced with new and ever-changing forms of organization and employment. Work is an essential part of the individual's existence that consists of income security as well as social affiliation and sense of identity. Just as changes challenge the security of organizations and employees, opportunities for new approaches and structural measures are also created. In order to deal with these conditions, it is important to identify the areas that lay the groundwork and promote the sustainability of the workplace. The aim of the study was to analyze and describe employees' experiences of learning within the organization, as well as identify factors that create a sustainable and attractive workplace based on a health promotion approach. The theoretical frame consists of the theories; Senge's five disciplines, Empowerment and WHO- model Healthy Workplace. The study is based on a hermeneutic and abductive approach. The empirical data was collected through eight semi-structured interviews and analyzed through a qualitative content analysis that resulted in two main categories and six subcategories. The result showed that health-promoting factors in form of a strong co-workership that consists of a safe and stable work environment where good companionship strengthens both the internal and external quality. Competence development takes place formally as informally, where workplace learning that occurs between employees is highlighted as most prominent. It also requires an open dialogue, structure and a positive working climate. Finally, the study's findings demonstrate that the co-workership is the core of developing strong attraction attributes and is crucial to what keeps employees in the workplace. Furthermore, it was found that the leadership provides the conditions for employees to work together in a sustainable and pleasant working climate, focusing on the employees' well-being and job satisfaction.

Full textWhat makes an attractive place is not a given. However, it is possible to find similarities and some of the recurrent qualities that can be found include: a good variety of shops, water and green areas as well as walking distance to the city centre. The purpose of this paper is to study the perception of attractive urban qualities when selecting a neighbourhood from two perspectives, a larger and a smaller perspective, based on the example Bryggudden in Karlstad. The paper therefore aims to answer three questions: How do brokers and marketing materials promote Bryggudden? What makes an attractive place according to the residents of Bryggudden? Which of the qualities that according to science are attractive are compatible with Bryggudden? To find out what the residents of Bryggudden consider attractive when choosing a residential area a survey was distributed to a selected residential building. To find out how Bryggudden is advertised and what is promoted as attractive, a textual analysis and an interview with a broker/salesperson were made. Finally a observation of the area was made to see which of the attractive factors are compatible with Bryggudden. The result was that much of what is promoted as attractive is also what the residents are looking for. The residents of Bryggudden think that the four most important factors when choosing a residential area is (1) walking distance to the city centre, (2) a wide range of shops, (3) to be close to green areas and (4) the buildings appearance. What is promoted as attractive on Bryggudden includes the area's location close to the city centre, the location on the waterfront, the mixed environment and the area's special identity and history. After the observation, it is also to note that Bryggudden possess many attractive qualities. The area is located near downtown, has great access to water and a small selection of shops. The biggest flaw with Bryggudden is that there are no green areas, which the residents request.

Hemsedal är en turistdestination mellan Bergen och Oslo, Norge. Deras vision är att vara Skandinaviens mest attraktiva resmål för fjällsport och unika kulturupplevelser. Att söka skapa en hållbar turismutveckling, genom en enhetlig definition av begreppet samt genom lämpliga verktyg, anser författarna är av betydelse för Hemsedal. Detta för att vara konkurrenskraftiga nog till att göra anspråk på titeln Skandinaviens mest attraktiva resmål, samt för en fortlevnad av destinationen. Hemsedal bör vara ekonomisk, ekologisk samt sociokulturellt långsiktigt hållbar. Det är viktigt med en gemensam definition av begreppet hållbar turismutveckling för att bidra till gemensamma mål och ett gemensamt arbete för att skapa en hållbar turismutveckling på destinationen. Syftet med studien är att analysera om det i Hemsedal finns en definition för hållbar turismutveckling. Författarna ämnar undersöka om, och i så fall hur, utvalda aktörer på destinationen arbetar för en sådan utveckling ur ett lokalt perspektiv. Det för att skapa förståelse för destinationsutvecklingen i Hemsedal med fokus på hållbar turismutveckling. Studien är en fallstudie av kvalitativ karaktär och innefattar semistrukturerade intervjuer vilka utfördes på plats i Hemsedal. Även litteratur, rapporter och artiklar studerades. Teorin behandlar hållbar turismutveckling och tar sin utgångspunkt i ekonomisk, ekologisk och sociokulturell hållbarhet. Vidare behandlas strategier för hur aktörer kan arbeta för att skapa en hållbar turismutveckling. Resultatet av studien visar att en medvetenhet om turismutvecklingen och dess effekter på destinationen finns bland de intervjuade aktörerna i Hemsedal. De arbetar för att skapa en hållbar turismutveckling men arbetssätten skiljer sig åt mellan aktörerna och en gemensam definition av begreppet hållbar turismutveckling finns inte.
Författarna hoppas att med studien väcka intresse samt skänka inspiration till destinationer i allmänhet, men Hemsedal i synnerhet, i deras arbete att skapa en hållbar turismutveckling.

Full textThe work with the complex question of attractiveness is considered being one of the key issues within municipalities today. One of the strategies the municipality of Åstorp presented to achieve its vision as an attractive municipality, and getting an increased migration, is to create attractive residential environments. The municipality of Åstorp had an increasing population during the millennium, but in recent years this growth has stagnated. The intention with this study is to seek an understanding and clarify what attractions are sought after in the choice of residence. With the support of various theoretical and empirical studies, the aim of this study is to find out what kind of qualities that makes Åstorp a more attractive municipality of residence. To do this, we make use of literary studies, interviews, surveys and analysis of GIS-maps and diagrams. Furthermore, we provide knowledge about what strengths and what weaknesses the municipality of Åstorp has as an attractive residential municipality. Hopefully this knowledge can generate an increased migration to the municipality.

Full textDuring the 1950s and 1960s, many urban squares and centers in Sweden were built thanks to the growing economy prevailing in the country. A number of these places are today desolate. Agö Square, located in Brynäs, is an example of a district square and center built during this period and has since then largely remained unchanged. The square is not a natural meeting place in Gävle and is currently being poorly used. The square works largely as the distance of transport for the residents of the district to get to the service that is directly adjacent to the square. A well-designed square is a place where the opportunity for meetings between people is good and where there is an attraction and a function that inspires to visit and stay on site. Squares are part of the public realm and are important ingredients in a city to enhance the quality of life. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to find out how the square and the center can be developed into a vivid and useful meeting place for residents of the district and visitors. Two proposals have been produced. The first proposal is based on my own knowledge and the second proposal were made using literature and an inventory, survey and observations. Observations were conducted according to Gehl and Svarre’s methods. The proposals were compared with the zero alternative, i.e. what the square looks like today and how it is used today. This was done using the multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) through analytic hierarchy process (AHP), observations and a questionnaire that were distributed to visitors to the square. The result of the AHP shows that both my proposal and the proposal based on theory and methodology are a clear improvement in the way the site is today. Important factors for making the square an attractive meeting place are accessibility, security, greenery, attractions and contemplation. With the theoretical background and the collected empirics as the basis for a proposal which, according to the current landscape convention, takes on nature and cultural values, there seems to be good opportunities for implementing a change of Agö square into an attractive meeting place with the design proposals as a starting point. One prerequisite for success is that citizens continue to be engaged in the design and future use of Agö Square.

Full textSammanfattning Bakgrund. Brist på sjuksköterskor är ett alarmerande problem i Sverige och i världen. För att kunna lösa problemet är det viktigt att identifiera de faktorer som enligt sjuksköterskor kan bidra till att göra deras arbete attraktivt. Syfte. Syftet med studien var beskriva faktorer som gör ett arbete attraktivt och hur detta skiljer sig mot den faktiska arbetssituationen bland sjuksköterskor som arbetar på ortopediska vårdavdelningar i mellan Sverige. Metod. Det är en tvärsnitt studie med beskrivande och jämförande design. Datainsamling skedde på ortopediska vårdavdelningar på sex olika sjukhus i mellan Sverige med hjälp av enkäter. Totalt 95 sjuksköterskor svarade. Korrelations- och regressionsanalys användes för att analysera data. Huvudresultat. De faktorer som enligt sjuksköterskor var mest betydelsefulla för att ett arbete ska vara attraktivt var ledarskap, lön, samarbete och arbetsstatus. Sjuksköterskor skattade sin nuvarande arbetssituation lägre än det attraktiva arbetet. Att känna sig värdefull skattades högst i den nuvarande arbetssituationen medan lönen var sämst. Jämförelse av nuvarande arbete med attraktivt arbete visade signifikant skillnader vid jämförelsen av alla faktorer. Lönen hade störst diskrepans mellan det nuvarande arbetet och det attraktiva arbetet medan resan till och från arbete hade minst diskrepans. Slutsatser. Enligt analys av resultatet har ledarskap, lön samarbete och arbetsstatus stor betydelse vid övervägande av strategier för att behålla sjuksköterskor. Sjuksköterskor skattade sin nuvarande arbetssituation lägre än det attraktiva arbetet och lönen lägst. Detta innebär att en strategi som skulle kunna förbättra den nuvarande arbetssituationen på något sätt kan vara löneökning.

Full textLevande Stockholm is a concept that Stockholm City initiated in 2015. The purpose of the concept is to create vibrant and attractive urban spaces for the citizens. Developing the attractive city is a process that has become more common and important for cities, due to the ever- increasing globalization. The Levande Stockholm concept is based on temporary urbanism to create attractive city spaces in the summer and has had a successful outcome. This study springs from this concept. During winter, there are different conditions that affect the city, its inhabitants and the interaction between the two. Therefore, this study investigates how to create conditions for attractive and vibrant urban spaces during winter through temporary urbanism. The research question is answered through a case study by collecting data from three different groups whom we chose to label as planners, external actors and citizens. The planners and external actors who were interviewed were chosen due to their experience of working with Levande Stockholm prior. A citizen's perspective has been examined through a survey to compare if their thoughts about attractive urban spaces in winter time are consistent with the views of planners and external actors. The theoretical framework consists of three comprehensive research fields from different disciplines; the vibrant city, temporary urbanism and urban planning in a cold climate. This creates a cross-disciplinary context that allows a depth and breadth in the study. The results show that temporary urbanism has the potential to create more vibrant and interesting urban spaces. Furthermore, our empirics show that most actors, public and private, agree that the municipality’s role is to enable the creation of vibrant spaces, while other actors should be the creators of the content within the urban space. Possible obstacles to developing vibrant city spaces during wintertime through temporary urbanism are rigid rules regarding snow clearance, concession fees and the fixed periods for outdoor seating. Vibrant and attractive urban spaces can be created by enabling actors to temporarily develop and utilize streets and urban spaces during winter.

Full textThe purpose of this paper is to contribute with increased knowledge concerning attractive play-environments in the preschool from the perspective of children. The study is based on a selection of individual children’s stories about play-environments in the preschool. Qualitative interviews have been used as a method of collecting empirical evidence. They have been recorded and transcribed to form the basis for the analysis based on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis IPA. It is a method that is trying to find out the individual’s perception and experience of a phenomenon through a hermeneutic interpretation and a phenomenological perspective. The result of this study shows that the children preferred rooms located in the periphery and avoided the passage rooms. What enticed most in the attractive playgrounds were construction materials and materials that enabled taking on roles. The result furthermore showed that companion relations were part of the attractive environment. Based on the choices it was made clear that the children found meaning and enticement in the fluctuating and the ability to influence the design of their environment. The location of the attractive rooms in turn gave the opportunity for undisturbed immersion of play which was perceived as meaningful by the children. The interaction and relationship with close friends were in turn another part of what created meaning in the attractive play-environment.
