Abstract:
Dieser Artikel diskutiert sich verändernde Muster kollektiven Handelns von Beschäftigten in der deutschen Autoindustrie. Seine Grundlage sind Studien des Soziologischen Forschungsinstituts Göttingen zur Einführung von Gruppenarbeit, die zwischen Anfang der 1990er und Mitte der 2000er Jahre durchgeführt wurden. Dort war die Annahme, Gruppenarbeit könne zu einer Zurückdrängung von Entfremdung durch eine Anreicherung von repetitiver Fließbandarbeit beitragen. Dabei würde auch ein größeres Maß an Selbstbestimmung im Arbeitsprozess geschaffen, während zugleich eine steigende Produktivität erreicht werden könne. Eine Sekundäranalyse der historischen Beschäftigteninterviews zeigt, dass bezüglich des Demokratieversprechens das Management durchaus beim Wort genommen wurde, während zugleich sowohl traditionelle Formen des Arbeitskampfs im Arbeitsalltag als auch eine dichotomische Sicht auf die Interessen von Eigentümern und Arbeitenden aufrechterhalten wurden.

Abstract:
Das Hauptanliegen des vorliegenden Beitrags richtet sich auf die Beschreibung von ausgewählten Phraseologismen, die aus dem Verdeutschungswörterbuch von Joachim Heinrich Campe 1801 stammen. Es werden Wortverbindungen aus dem Bereich der Äquivalente Ersatzwörter/Ersatzausdrücke dargestellt und interpretiert. Die Untersuchungen zeigen, dass manche Ausdrücke im Vergleich mit den festen Wortgruppen aus gegenwärtigen phraseologischen Wörterbüchern identisch verzeichnet sind; bei den anderen hat sich ihre Form und/oder Bedeutung verändert. Es werden auch solche Phraseologismen unterschieden, die im Gegenwartsdeutschen nicht mehr existieren.Phraseologisms in the ‘Germanizing dictionary’ Verdeutschungswörterbuch by Joachim Heinrich Campe 1801The aim of the paper is a description of selected phraseologisms taken from the ‘Germanizing dictionary’ Verdeutschungswörterbuch by Joachim Heinrich Campe 1801. Word combinations offered there as equivalents words/expressions suggested as replacements are presented and interpreted. The research shows that many expressions, when compared with fixed word groups from contemporary dictionaries, are recorded in the same form and with the same meaning; there are also some items whose form and/or meaning has changed. There are, moreover, such phraseologisms which do not exist in contemporary German anymore.

Abstract:
This paper will examine the self-reported division of housework and childcare in Germany and Poland considering the job-related spatial mobility within dual-earner couples who are living in a household together with a partner, using 2007 data from the Job Mobility and Family Lives in Europe Project. We find that men who are spatially mobile for work often report shifting housework to their partners. Polish couples show a stronger tendency toward an egalitarian division of labor than German couples do, especially in terms of childcare. But the central finding of this research is, gender trumps national differences and spatial mobility constraints. Polish and German women, whether mobile for their work or not, report doing the majority of housework and childcare compared to their partners. Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel untersucht die Aufteilung von Hausarbeit und Kinderbetreuung auf Basis von Selbsteinschätzungen berufsbedingt räumlichmobiler sowie nicht mobiler Befragter in Deutschland und Polen. Anhand von Daten des Projektes Job Mobility and Family Lives in Europe (2007) betrachten wir Personen, die mit ihrem Partner in einem Doppelverdienerhaushalt leben. So geben beruflich mobile Männer häufig an, die Hausarbeit auf ihre Partner zu übertragen. Polnische Paare zeigen eine stärkere Tendenz zu einer egalitären Arbeitsteilung als deutsche, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Kinderbetreuung. Das zentrale Ergebnis unserer Untersuchung ist jedoch, dass das Geschlecht sowohl Mobilitäts- als auch nationale Unterschiede überlagert. Sowohl polnische als auch deutsche Frauen, ob beruflich mobil oder nicht, übernehmen den Hauptanteil an der Hausarbeit und Kinderbetreuung.

In connection with the work on the Old Dutch dictionary (onw) the appellatives in Old Dutch place names from C7–12 were also examined. On the basis of the place names beginning with F from the lexicon of Dutch place names before 1200, the method of finding appellatives in them is explained. For some unexplained place names, possible explanations are proposed. Im Rahmen der Arbeit am altniederländischen Wörterbuch (onw) wurden auch die Appellative in Ortsnamen aus der altiederländischen Periode (7. bis 12. Jh.) in das Wörterbuch aufgenommen. Anhand der mit F anlautenden Ortsnamen im Lexikon der niederländischen Ortsnamen vor 1200 wird das Verfahren dabei erläutert. Auch werden Vorschläge gemacht für die Deutung einiger dunkler Ortsnamen. Johann Gottfried Herder in his early work, Auch eine Philosophie der Geschichte zur Bildung der Menschheit (1774), thus far translated into Polish only in fragments (E. Namowicz 1973, T. Namowicz 2001), deals with the problem of constructing historical syntheses and cross-sections that do not take into account the dynamic variability of cultures over time. He is also interested in the critique of the Enlightenment idea of progress. At the same time, he draws attention to the role of general concepts in the description of things, phenomena, and processes, as well as ideas related to them, culturally conditioned, but also individually processed and modified. The author of the article puts forward a thesis that the pamphlet and polemical form of Auch eine Philosophie… enables the German philosopher to formulate in a radical manner questions that are important also for modern researchers of culture. These questions concern not only the problems related to the description of cultural reality, but also the multitude of definitions of concepts, and sometimes the excess of specialised terms, difficult to translate.

Summary The umlauted forms of the German modals dürfen, mögen, müssen and können are unexpected from the viewpoint of the sound laws, and must be therefore explained in other ways. Despite more than one century of research, a convincing solution to this problem is still lacking. In this paper, a new solution is proposed, which attempts to consider the several factors implied by this linguistic change. As observed by Lühr (1987), mögen and müssen seem to have been the first verbs to show umlaut extension, especially in Southern dialects. This fact can be explained as a morphologically driven language change, since the two verbs were inadequate with respect to the paradigm-structure conditions of the modals’ inflectional class. The extension of umlaut established a stem vowel alternation between the singular and the plural of the present indicative as in all other verbs of the inflectional class. Therefore, umlaut extension can be seen as the result of a morphological change increasing the system adequacy of the verbs (cf. Wurzel 1989). Two other factors were crucial for the linguistic change. The functional neutralization of the mood opposition between the indicative and the subjunctive, typical of this verbal class, might also have played a role, because the subjunctive displayed an umlaut-triggering suffix. Moreover, umlaut extension may also be seen as the result of an additional process of phonological neutralization caused by the action of the umlaut rule in the context of a phonological word in late OHG, as already pointed out by Behaghel (1928). Résumé Les formes avec umlaut dans les verbes modaux allemands dürfen, mögen, müssen et können n’ont pas une origine phonétique. Après plus d’un siècle de recherche on n’a pas encore trouvé d’explication convaincante pour ce phénomène. Dans cet article, on propose une nouvelle solution au problème, qui tente de prendre en considération les nombreux facteurs liés à ce changement linguistique. Comme l’a observé Lühr (1987), mögen et müssen ont été les premiers verbes à montrer l’extension de l’umlaut, particulièrement dans les dialectes méridionaux. Ce fait peut s’expliquer par l’état morphologiquement inadéquat de ces deux verbes quant aux conditions de la structure paradigmatique de cette classe flexionnelle. En effet, l’umlaut a établi une alternation de la voyelle radicale entre le singulier et le pluriel du présent de l’indicatif, comme dans tous les autres verbes de cette classe flexionnelle. Dans cette optique, l’extension de l’umlaut serait un changement morphologique qui a amélioré la régularité du système verbal (cf. Wurzel 1989). Deux autres facteurs auraient joué un rôle décisif dans ce changement langagier. La neutralisation fonctionnelle de l’opposition de mode entre l’indicatif et le subjonctif, typique de cette classe verbale, peut aussi avoir joué un rôle dans ce changement, en raison de la présence dans ces verbes d’un suffixe qui produisait l’umlaut au subjonctif. Enfin, le phénomène d’extension de l’umlaut peut aussi s’expliquer comme étant le résultat de l’action neutralisante de la règle phonologique de l’umlaut, qui agissait en vieil-allemand dans le contexte du mot phonologique, comme l’avait déjà observé Behaghel (1928). Zusammenfassung Die umgelauteten Formen der deutschen Modalverben dürfen, mögen, müssen und können sind lautgesetzlich unerwartet. Nach mehr als einem Jahrhundert Forschung, bleibt eine überzeugende Lösung noch offen. In diesem Aufsatz wird eine neue Lösung vorgeschlagen, in der die in diesem Sprachwandel miteinbezogenen verschiedenen Elemente genauer betrachtet werden. Wie von Lühr (1987) schon bemerkt wurde, sind mögen und müssen die ersten Verben gewesen, die die Umlautausdehnung, besonders in oberdeutschen Mundarten, gezeigt haben. Diese Feststellung kann dadurch erklärt werden, dass diese zwei Verben in Bezug auf die Paradigmenstrukturbedingungen ihrer Flexionsklasse unangemessen waren. Von diesem Blickpunkt hat der Umlaut eine Alternanz des Stammvokals zwischen Singular und Plural des Präsens Indikativs geschaffen, die in den anderen Verben der Flexionsklasse üblich war. In dieser Perspektive ist die Umlautausdehnung das Ergebnis eines morphlogischen Wandels gewesen, der die Systemangemessenheit der Verben verbessert hat (vgl. Wurzel 1989). Darüber hinaus müssen zwei andere Aspekte hervorgehoben werden. Die für die Modalverben typische Markiertheitsumkehrung zwischen Indikativ und Konjunktiv, wo es ein umlautauslöschendes Suffix gab, kann auch dazu beigetragen haben, die Umlautausdehnung zu begünstigen, weil eine funktionale Neutralisierung der Modusopposition in dieser Verbklasse zustande kam. Schließlich kann die Umlautausdehnung auch als das Ergebnis der neutralisierenden Auswirkung der phonologischen Umlautregel gesehen werden, die im Ahd. das phonologische Wort als Domäne hatte, wie es von Behaghel (1928) schon vorgeschlagen wurde.

Travel, Time, and Space, hrsg. A. Classen, 2018). Das vorliegende Buch ist im De Gruyter Verlag erschienen, wo auch das Journal of Transcultural Medieval Studies veröffentlicht wird; es gibt also viele Überlappungen. Hinweisen muss ich auch auf East Meets West in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times: Transcultural Experiences in the Premodern World, ed. Albrecht Classen, 2013; siehe dazu A. Classen, “Transcultural Experiences in the Late Middle Ages: The German Literary Discourse on the Mediterranean World – Mirrors, Reflections, and Responses,”Humanities Open Access 2015, 4(4), 676–701; doi:10.3390/h4040676. Keine dieser Veröffentlichungen wurden im vorliegenden Band auch nur registriert, und es scheint fast, als ob im Zeitalter der Internationalisierung weiterhin tiefe Gräben zwischen der deutschen und der außerdeutschen Mediävistik bestehen. Überblickt man die in den jeweiligen Bibliographien aufgelistete Literatur, macht sich diese gegenseitige Unkenntnis ganz penetrant bemerkbar, und dies, obwohl doch gerade der Verlag De Gruyter intensiv darum bemüht ist, im Kampf gegen dieses Desiderat in die Bresche zu springen (siehe dazu die ganze Reihe ‘Fundamentals of Medieval and Early Modern Culture’).

Der deutsche Barockdichter Georg Philipp Harsdörffer skizziert eine Theorie der Emblematik, die vor allem dessen Anwendungsvielfalt hervorhebt. Er hebt dabei besonders den Unterschied zwischen buchinterner und buchexterner Verwendung auf, indem er sich nicht nur für die Aufnahme der Embleme in Büchern, sondern auch auf Geschirr und Tapeten ausspricht. Der Beitrag liest Harsdörffers extensive Überlegungen nicht nur als Beiträge zur Theorie und Geschichte der Embleme als ›Sinn-Bilder‹, sondern auch als Beitrag zur Designgeschichte. German Baroque poet Georg Philipp Harsdörffer delineates a theory of emblematics that clearly sets itself apart from other contemporary theories, especially by its versatility. In particular, the author negates the difference between internal and external usage of emblems in books not only by promoting the incorporation of emblems into printed works but also by supporting their depiction on dishes and tapestries. This article strives to read Harsdörffer’s extensive thoughts on the matter of emblems not simply as another work on the theory and history of emblematics but rather as a contribution to design history as well

According to the early Fichte, designation of mental concepts and highly abstract concepts happens by means of ‘schemata’. Through an unconscious mechanism, we transfer the name of a sensible thing into a supersensible object. Fichte looked upon this process as a source of mistakes. In Addresses to the German Nation, he changes his conception and puts symbols or actual images in the place of schemata. These images don’t unify sensible and supersensible notions as schemata do, rather they draw an analogy between these notions. This analogy guides the subject in creating a notion. The word initiates and inspires the process for creating a notion. Furthermore, the word shows through the image, in what way we should set in motion our capacity of representation. So the word does not offer abstract rules for the reason but gives an image which contains the rules of procedure.From my point of view, Fichte modified his theory of language not only to deal with problems immanent to the philosophy of language. He aimed to construct a philosophy of language which was much more consistent with the view of the human being and the conception of intersubjectivity according to the Wissenschaftslehre. The modified philosophy of language proves more convincingly that basically when we understand speeches of others we neither apprehend perfect meanings nor receives ideas of others more or less passively but we re-create or re-produce thoughts of the speakers.Nach dem frühen Fichte bezeichnet die Sprache die „geistigen“ und die „sehr abstrakten“ Begriffe mit Hilfe von Schemata. Ein unbewusster Mechanismus überträgt den Namen sinnlicher Gegenstände auf übersinnliche. In diesem Verfahren sah Fichte eine Quelle von Fehlern. Die Reden modifizieren diese Theorie so, dass die Schemata durch Symbole bzw. Bilder ersetzt werden. Sie vereinigen nicht wie die Schemata sinnliche und übersinnliche Vorstellungen, sondern stellen eine Analogie zwischen ihnen her. Diese Analogie weist darauf hin, welche Vorstellung ein Subjekt bilden muss. Das Wort gibt einen Anlass und eine Anleitung zur Vorstellungsbildung und die von ihm bereitgestellte Information zeigt zugleich, wie wir unser Vorstellungsvermögen in Bewegung setzen müssen. Es teilt dabei keine abstrakten Regeln mit, sondern bietet in einem Bild Anweisung für das Gemüt. Nach meiner These änderte Fichte seine Sprachlehre nicht nur, um ein immanentes sprachphilosophisches Problem lösen zu können. Sein Ziel war es wohl auch, eine Sprachphilosophie zu schaffen, die besser dem Menschenbild der Wissenschaftslehre und ihrer Intersubjektivitätslehre entspricht, als die frühere. Die revidierte Sprachphilosophie kann überzeugender belegen, dass wir beim Verstehen der Sprache anderer Menschen nicht ausgemachte Bedeutungseinheiten begreifen und nicht Gedanken von außen aufnehmen, sondern diejenigen Gedanken re-produzieren und re-konstruieren, die auch der Redner gedacht und ausgesprochen hat.

Die erreichbare Genauigkeit von Werkzeugmaschinen hängt unter anderem von den Bedingungen am Aufstellort ab, wobei die Temperatur aufgrund ihres Jahres- und Tagesgangs sowie weiterer externer und interner Wärmequellen eine besonders wichtige Rolle spielt. Das gilt auch für die dynamischen Eigenschaften der Werkzeugmaschinen und deren Auswirkungen auf den Prozess. Dies ist bei der Simulation von Maschinenschwingungen zu berücksichtigen.   Facing the rising number of exported machine tools supplied by German manufacturers, the influence of the ambient temperature on process results becomes more variant, less predictable and moderate, and thus a constructive task and scientific matter. While the thermal influence on the process accuracy is extensively investigated, this work takes a closer look on the achievable process stability at different ambient temperatures, using modern measurement and simulation techniques.

Abstract:
This thesis studies word order variations in Swiss-German sentences that contain infinitival complements. Such sentences exhibit interesting word order. Verbs can be in different orders and the objects selected by these verbs can be in different positions relative to them. The aim of this thesis is to give a general account of these word order facts based solely on structural properties of the complements in the underlying structure. In particular, it is claimed that Swiss-German verbs that take infinitival complements do not all select the same type of complements. Some verbs (like modals, perception verbs and causatives) select VPs, others (like raising verbs) select IPs and others (like control verbs) select IPs or CPs. Mechanisms such as extraposition, verb raising and proliticization then apply to different structures in order for the sentence to satisfy T-linking. Extraposition applies to IPs and CPs, verb raising to IPs and VPs and procliticization to verbs that are sister to VPs.

In the context of western liberal democracies, both the German state and the German nation have undergone a unique evolutionary process during the twentieth century. Stemming from this anomalous development, citizenship in Germany represents not only membership in the German polity but also membership in the German cultural community. Naturalization standards, in contrast to every major immigrant-receiving state, were thus traditionally based on descent-based (as opposed to territorial-based) standards. Consequentially, the large population of foreign guestworkers that entered Germany through post-War labor recruitment programs has been systematically excluded from formal state membership. This exclusion, by producing a disempowered and disillusioned class of pseudo-citizens, has produced alarming tensions between ethnic German citizens and foreign resident minorities. Abstract:
Within the framework of Government-Binding Theory, this thesis argues that the Germanic languages, including German and related languages, should be analyzed as having INFL-second underlying work order. Contrary to traditional generative treatments of the so-called "verb-second" (V2) phenomenon, it is claimed here, in light of certain subtle asymmetries, that the final target site of the moved verb is INFL (I$ sp0)$ in sentences with pre-verbal subjects and COMP (C$ sp0)$ in those with pre-verbal non-subjects.
It is further maintained that an analysis, as modified and extended in the thesis, in which verb movement is triggered by the Empty Category Principle (ECP) is superior, on both conceptual and empirical grounds, to other theories advanced by generativists to date. A wide variety of clause types in the modern Germanic languages, including in particular German V2 complements and Icelandic infinitival complements, are examined, the final chapter being devoted to a proposal concerning German "parentheticals".
