Abstract:
Cricket is a male-dominated sport; however, its popularity among females is increasing. Like other sports, participation in cricket poses the risk of injury to players. Injury problems for female cricketers are virtually unknown, as studies examining cricket injuries include almost exclusively male participants. In other sports, the types of injuries experienced by men and women are known to be different. Therefore, a clear understanding of the extent and types of injuries sustained by female cricket players is required, to underpin appropriately targeted injury prevention strategies. This the

This thesis investigates problems of performance modelling in sport. Mathematical models are used to evaluate the performance of individuals, teams, and the competition rules under which they compete. The thesis comprises a collection of papers on applications of modelling to Australian rules football, soccer and cricket. Evolutionary theories of ageing and senescence provide a framework that allows to understand why apparently maladaptive senescent phenotypes are observed under natural conditions, despite the fact that natural selection should, at first sight, be opposed to mechanisms that lead to the deterioration of bodily functions with advancing age. While ageing has been shown in the wild and has been explored under artificial laboratory conditions, sex-dependent pattern were not considered in detail. In October 1935, a touring party embarked on the inaugural tour of India by an Australian cricket team. To a great, and somewhat stereotypical, extent popular representations of IndianeAustralian relations are viewed through the lens of cricket – the national game in both countries. This dissertation about a significant, yet overlooked, chapter in sporting history examines the Australian cricketers’ response to the social, racial and political hierarchies of lateecolonial India. The experience of the touring party encouraged a reeimagining of ideological perspectives and this thesis identifies

Abstract:
Introduction: Research on the menstrual cycle and its influence on an athlete’s health, wellbeing and performance is limited and inconclusive. However, there remains a general consensus that the menstrual cycle, menstrual dysfunction and hormonal contraceptive use has some influence on the physical, physiological and psychological health of an athlete and consequently will affect an athlete’s health, wellbeing and athletic performance. It would be assumed, then that monitoring the effect of the menstrual cycle would be a priority amongst Support Staff working in female sport and that conversat

The dissertation will investigate how cricket integrated a frontier society whose initial class structures caused divisions within the colony. The colony was founded on the precept that wealth would create further wealth. As a result, class barriers were constructed during the formative years by those who had wealth and influence that dictated the colony’s future fortunes. These fortunes were based on agriculture and horse breeding that created a horseracing society, and became a major factor towards erecting social barriers between the classes. This thesis explores the ways in which individuals make sense of and engage with social fields; revealing the role of habitus and disposition as animators of social experience and the field as lived experience that endures in memory, narrative and embodied practice. I show how ethnographic interviews, and their capacity to invoke the field and its contexts, are an effective way of engaging anthropologically with narrative lives, as a rich resource for exploring social practice.

Using a case study of elite cricket professionals moving from the UK to Australia for a maximum duration of 6 months, out and return migration flows and processes are examined. In doing so, this thesis exposes migration motives, notably in relation to career progression and personal development, and the processes and regulations that control temporary sojourns. Tom Wills was the most important Australian sportsman of the mid-nineteenth century, but it is only in the first decade of the twenty-first century that he has grown in profile as a figure of cultural significance. He rose to prominence in cricket during his time at Rugby school in England during the 1850s. When he returned to Australia he became the captain of the Victorian cricket team.
