Abstract:
There is little linguistic research on the structure of judicial opinions from a discourse analysis perspective. There are, however, many professional resources about writing judicial opinions. This paper contributes to genre theory and linguistics of languages for specific purposes by proposing a role for professional writing advice. We also construct a typology of macrostructures proposed by professionals and compare them to the move structure of authentic judicial opinions. Our results show that, in terms of large discourse units, professional resources and move analysis seem to converge. P

In ubiquitous learning, authentic experiences are captured and later reused as those are rich resources for foreign vocabulary development. This article presents an experiential theory-oriented approach to the design of learning analytics support for sharing and reusing authentic experiences. In this regard, first, a conceptual framework to support vocabulary learning using learners' authentic experiences is proposed. Next, learning experiences are captured using a context-aware ubiquitous learning system. Finally, grounded in the theoretical framework, the development of a web-based tool call

ABSTRACT:I argue that authentic photography is not able to develop to the full as a communicative representational art. Photography is authentic when it is true to its self-image as the imprinting of images. For an image to be imprinted is for its content to be linked to the scene in which it originates by a chain of sufficient, mind-independent causes. Communicative representational art (in any medium: photography, painting, literature, music, etc.) is art that exploits the resources of representation to achieve artistically interesting communication of thought. Teachers are charged with increasing students’ scientific literacy, which involves interpreting evidence and making sense of patterns. However, teachers need access to – or must be able to generate – authentic datasets if they are to help their students develop quantitative reasoning skills. We describe an evolutionary ecology lesson focused on resource competition in a parasitic wasp. Students use datasets to generate graphs and test hypotheses on resource competition and fitness.
