GRAVE, SAMMY DE, and PETER K. L. NG. "The curious case of “innies”: Articles 50.1, 50.1.1 and the citation of authorities in Decapoda Crustacea—a way forward." Zootaxa 4963, no. 1 (April 16, 2021): 163–72. http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.4963.1.8.

Full text
Abstract:
In the majority of species and genus names in Decapoda Crustacea, the author(s) of the name equate with the author(s) of the work. In a relatively small number of cases, however, the author(s) of the name are either a subset of the authors of the work or are not an author on the work—a phenomenon herein termed “innies”. We demonstrate that these two categories should be differentially interpreted according to Articles 50.1 and 50.1.1 of the ICZN Code. To promote stability in cited authorship of historical names, it is proposed that 1) if the author(s) of the name are also an author on the work, these should be universally accepted as “innies”, irrespective of any further explanation in the text (including a mere attribution following the taxon name); and 2) that if the author(s) of the name are not an author(s) of the work, these should only be considered as “innies” if a more expansive explanation is given in the text, not merely an attribution of authorship to the taxon name.

Gligo, Nikša. "Musicology: Doubts about its Subject(s) and its Pedagogical Function(s)." Musicological Annual 39, no. 1 (December 1, 2003): 25–29. http://dx.doi.org/10.4312/mz.39.1.25-29.

Full text
Abstract:
The author's experience with musicological research of contemporary music developed his critical attitude towards musicology in general, especially towards the one that considers music only as text and limits the approaches to musical works on philological methodology. Both Schering's Experimentelle Musikgeschichte (1913) and Kerman's requests for musicology as fusion of scholarly musicological work and sense for music as art (1985) attempt to get rid of this »philological burden«. A further problem, however, is the equality of all kinds of music, requested by the New musicology and the impossibility to develop appropriate analytical tools for each of them. Harrison's suggestion of ethnomusicological (i.e. sociological) approach is not sufficiently convincing, because – as proven by the quotation from Treitler – the contextual (i.e. social) meaning of any musical work is not so easily to decipher. The author pleads for consciously critical approach to musicological research which permits even contrary readings of the same text, and points out that this is the way in which he persuades his students to cope with the lacunae of their subjects of interest.

Abstract:
In the article «Genre dominants of Belorussian documentary: A. Adamovich’s and S. Alexievich’s experience» the author analyzes the concept of «documentary», «document» and «fact» in different scholars. The research deals with the process of formation of Belorussian national artistic-documentary proseon the basis of the works of Belorussian authors A. Adamovich «The Blockade book» (co-authored with D. Granin), «Out of the Fire» (co-authored with J. Bryl’ and V. Kolesnyk) and S. Alexievich «The Unwomanly Face of War…». The author reveals historical and ideological connections between these books, in which human voices are composed into a single complete whole, possessing a certain set of genre properties that manifest themselves both at the content and form levels. The focus is on distinguishing innovative features of the genre compared to «classic» documentary of the first half of the 19th century. The researcher views main peculiarities of the narrative, the author’s position while presenting eyewitness accounts, which may bе either objective or subjective. Composition, topic of the work and author’s foundation of the chosen structure are described. In the article there isthe investigation of the history of documentary genre, the reasons for its transformation and the specifics of modern «choir of voices» interpretation. Abstract:
Highly biographical Modernist author profiles on Facebook seem to adopt or encourage a purely biographical, Genius Cult-esque understanding of the relationship between an author and that author's work. This is initially problematic, as authorial intent is a particularly complex issue of consideration for many of the authors currently haunting Facebook. This article thus establishes the paradoxical view on author-ity of three such authors -- T. S. Eliot, Marianne Moore, and James Joyce -- and examines how such Facebook profiles undermine and simplify the arguments made by these authors both through their critical and creative works. It then suggests that, by mere nature of being present on Facebook, these profiles may indeed engage in teasing out the very same paradox that these Modernists proposed in the first place, using Derrida's Hauntology to examine Facebook as a textual space both of biography and self-prosthesis. The argument ultimately seeks to propose that all Facebook users are indeed just such spectres haunting digital spaces.

Abstract:
The article deals with the system of views of the famous researcher of German and Slavs literature L. Rudnitsky. The author conducts studies with a focus on neo-views of authoritative international scholars in the context of comparative literature, with an examination of monographic studies of Rudnitsky on Ivan Franko’s work – the famous Ukrainian critic, ethnographer, literary critic, man of letters. L. Rudnitsky’s focus is on Franko as on the translator and popularizer of the works of German and Western literature, in particular, Lessing, Schiller, Goethe, etc. The author pays special attention to the contact- genetic and comparative-typological relations with the German language and literature. The contextual links of language and literature with the art of that time, which is considered in the context of the world cultural space are also described. In Rudnitsky’s monographs Ivan Franko and the German-speaking world: the importance of the environment for the poet’s creativity and the German language and literature in the works of Ivan Franko, the concept of the research space of the French translator at that time is observed. In confirmation of the importance of Rudnitsky’s work, the author uses the views of diaspora literary critics, such as I. Denisyuk, I. Kachurovsky, etc., who noted the work as a significant contribution and breakthrough in the study of the work of the outstanding Ukrainian artist I. Franko in the context of his translation activities. Through citational intertextuality, the author proves the contribution of Rudnitsky in the analysis of the works of Franco in a new generally-European perspective. The author emphasizes the deep meaningfulness of L. Rudnitsky’s translations conducted by I. Franko from the oldest German written notes, emphasizes the skill of the Camener in the transfer of the features of the old German language. We also see a comparative aspect in literary studies, which is dominant in our approach to the study of Franco’s translation activity. Valuable in research observations of L. Rudnitsky about Franco as a translator and popularizer of the works of German literature is his desire to expand the “German-speaking world”, which is confirmed by our in-depth analysis of the works of Rudnitsky and authoritative reviews on them. It is proved that for many years there was created an original concept of the study of German literature through the works of L. Rudnitsky – American talented literary critic of Ukrainian origin.

Abstract:
Although J. S. Mill′s essay On Liberty was intended by its author to be read as a self-contained work,1 and even though a careful reading would justify seeing it in this way, it has far too often been denied this right even by its defenders. There is a crucial distinction to be made between eliciting some point of substance from a particular work by an author and then turning to the rest of his work to throw further light on it, and employing other texts from the corpus of his writings to put the construction on certain things said in it which the work by itself cannot sustain, thus treating the former as essentially a fragment, albeit a most important fragment, of a whole.2 I would suggest that recourse to the latter course is justified only when the possibilities of treating it autarchically have already been explored. In this paper I propose to treat a celebrated text in the former way only because I believe that the results will show such an approach to be uniquely worthwhile, or at least fruitful enough to justify a paper conceived in this way. And, with a view to putting what I want to say about it in maximum focus I shall with one or two exceptions eschew giving supporting evidence from Mill′s other writings, even when this is permitted by the distinction I have made in this opening paragraph.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the structure of the literary work. The goal consists in the establishment of correlation between the parts of the literary work, expressed in the research of S. I. Sukhikh “The Theoretical Poetics of A. A. Potebnja”. The author meticulously examines such aspects of the theory of literary work of A. A. Potebnja as the interrelation between the external form, internal form, artistic image, and content of the literary work, as well as outlines the structure of the literary work. The article describes the parts of the literary work (external form, internal form, artistic image, content). The article offers the patter of the literary work, distinguishing the parts and interrelation between them. The author formulates the definitions of external form, internal form, artistic image, and content of the literary work; reveals the characteristics and distinctive features of each part of the literary work. This led to the formation of representation of the literary work as a structure, where each of the parts expresses its own meaning, and serves as a means of creating the meaning for the other part. The result this research consists in the creation of the pattern of literary work that gives an idea on the structure of the literary work. The acquired materials can be used in studying the general concepts of the theory of literature: the form, content, artistic image, definition of artistic merit of the literary work. The offered pattern of the literary work cab be also applied to the analysis of the literary work. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the formation of representation of the literary work as a structure, where each part expresses its own meaning and serves as a means of creating meaning for the other part, as well as in creation of the pattern that conveys this idea.

Abstract:
Objective: The objective was to examine reference errors in research articles published in Research on Social Work Practice. High rates of reference errors in other top social work journals have been noted in previous studies. Methods: Via a sampling frame of 22,177 total references among 464 research articles published in the previous decade, a sample of 500 references were randomly selected and verified against the original work for accuracy in the following fields: author name(s), publication year, article title, journal title, volume, and page number(s). Results: Almost 27% of references contained at least 1 error (0.35 errors per reference); 173 errors in total. The plurality of errors occurred in article titles (13.2%). Two factors significantly related to the likelihood of error: reference age and number of authors. Conclusion: Comparison to reference error rates in other social work journals is discussed, as are suggestions to authors, editors, and educators regarding error reduction.

In this article, the author shares her experiences as a doctoral student at the Unsettling Feminism(s) conference in Chicago. She argues that this unconference forced her to question how the academy conceives of “academic conferences” as venues of student–professional development. From the perspective of a racialized woman, an immigrant, a scholar, and a person with a disability, such professional gatherings that honor social workers’ and researchers’ multiple identities and offer valued spaces for marginalized stories to be told and heard can be personally and professionally transformative. The author uses the metaphor of an elephant in the room to argue that even though it may be unsettling, the academy must be willing to risk uncomfortable dialogues to advance social work education, practice, and research and to enhance students’ intellectual creativity.

Abstract:
This essay takes as its starting point my experience as a male critic of Carol Shields's work. Throughout the researching and writing of my PhD on Shields, I have noted with curiosity the surprise registered by many people upon discovering that a male critic would choose to write about the work of a female author. This reaction, confirmed by other male academics working on female authors, raises a number of interesting questions. What does it mean for a male critic to write about the work of a female author? Why is this still considered surprising, unusual, even strange? Is this view symptomatic of the kind of disturbing devaluation of women's fiction (and of women's experience generally) that Shields herself explores so candidly in her final novel Unless (2002)? I suggest that the anti-feminist backlash (outlined by Faludi [1991]), and the profitable establishment of popular literary genres such as "Chick Lit" and "Lad Lit," have led to a retrogressive "hardening" of gender roles within popular culture, one which endorses a simplistic relationship between author and audience, presuming that texts "by" women must necessarily be "for" women only. Situated within the context of Shields's own professed ambivalence about her status as a "women's writer," and drawing on the theories of Emma Wilson, the essay attempts to broaden out into a wider reflection upon issues of gender and identification within contemporary literary culture. Shields's work, I argue, subverts assumptions about gendered reading patterns, encouraging through its polyphony and its use of dual narrators a mobile and flexible reading experience which allows the reader to inhabit a range of perspectives and to read productively across gender binaries.

The volume and variety of commentary generated by a double‐blind peer review process reveal concerns behind reviewer comments to authors and effects over time.Research limitations/implicationsThe study centers on one journal, Libraries & Culture, a publication committed to the specialized, interdisciplinary research about the history of libraries and the collection of cultural records.Originality/valueThe strategic nature of the administration and management of the invisible work of peer reviewers becomes more apparent. The interests and intentions of peer reviewers surface in commentary intended only for authors. Commentary relates to a variety of themes including personal interests, pedagogical and disciplinary objectives, field expansion agendas as well as the prestige of the publication. These themes suggest peer review as a potentially effective guiding mechanism for long‐term endeavors that benefit author, reviewer, and editor as interrelated players in arenas where distinction is at stake.

The article focuses on the Renaissance literary tale, specifically from the work Facetious Nights by Gian Francesco Straparola. The collection features a variant of Cinderella's tale, which is a case particularly studied in the article. The author analyses the resemblance techniques used by Straparola to encapsulate the social reality of the time, and studies how the Renaissance episteme, grounded in the principles of resemblance, expresses in his work. The mirroring of nature, best illustrated through the metaphor of a mirror, accentuates the importance of the visual and comprises mirabilis, which is etymologically rooted in mirroring. The author explores the social function of tales in Venetian society and the ways, in which the marvellous was used to achieve this objective. The article shows interrelations between Straparola's works and Slovenian folktales, as well as with older variants of the studied cases.

This article analyzes the changes pertaining to such level of literary works as a system of characters, category of space and time, phonetic system and composition; as well as changes in epic and dramatic oeuvres in the process of transformation of the text of literary work into an opera libretto. Analysis is conducted on peculiarities of the aforementioned levels of literary text and libretto. As an example of epic work, the author selected the A. S. Pushkin’s verse novel “Eugene Onegin” and the eponymous opera composed by P. I. Tchaikovsky; as an example of dramatic work, the author picked the two poetic dramas from Pushkin’s cycle “The Stone Guest” and “The Miserly Knight” and the eponymous operas by A. Dargomyzhsky and S. V. Rachmaninoff respectively. The following methods were applied in the course of this study: comparative based on juxtaposition of musical-scenic interpretation and precedent literary text; typological for determination of patterns, classification and generalization of the results. The author comes to the conclusion that the transformation of epic and dramatic literary texts into the opera libretto has similarities and differences on all levels of the text. The possible reasons of such phenomenon are discussed. The author answers a question whether or not libretto can be attributed to as a genre of fiction writing.

Abstract:
The author of the article "The Neurotic Knight. Reminiscing on Grant Morrison's and Dave McKean's Arkham Asylum" wishes to present modern reflections on the genesis of one of the most popular comic books about Batman. To this end, he recalls the diegesis of the cultural work, which takes into account the originality of the story, the perception of the graphic novel, as well as directly references the thoughts of the authors, Grant Morrison and Dave McKean. Particular focus is put on the therapeutic function of the comic, a theme which was discussed in the scholarship of i.a. Janina Scarlet. The character of Batman and his antagonists were portrayed in Arkham Asylum in a groundbreaking, very symbolic way, which at the same time imbued the reader with a sense of dread. Thirty years after the publication, the author of the article reminisces on Morrison's and McKean's work, drawing upon modern research methods and pop- cultural references alike.

According to the philosopher, the meaning of a word is an idea embodied in the sound form of a word. In speech, the word-meaning turns into a word-thought. A thought comes true due to a speech-word. Language as a means of expression exists in its complete form long before the act of its designation. A thing is revealed in its name. The article also reveals the views of S.N. Bulgakov on words from the root, verbs-linker and pronouns that do not have their own content. The author believes that the results of the analysis in the article can enrich our ideas about language as an instrument of naming, designation and expression (cognitive aspect), and as a means of speech activity (communicative aspect).

Abstract:
Purpose This letter briefly reviews ideas about the purpose and benefits of peer review and reaches some idealistic conclusions about the process. Method The author uses both literature review and meditation born of long experience. Results From a cynical perspective, peer review constitutes an adversarial process featuring domination of the weak by the strong and exploitation of authors and reviewers by editors and publishers, resulting in suppression of new ideas, delayed publication of important research, and bad feelings ranging from confusion to fury. More optimistically, peer review can be viewed as a system in which reviewers and editors volunteer thousands of hours to work together with authors, to the end of furthering human knowledge. Conclusion Editors and authors will encounter both peer-review cynics and idealists in their careers, but in the author's experience the second are far more prevalent. Reviewers and editors can help increase the positive benefits of peer review (and improve the culture of science) by viewing the system as one in which they work with authors on behalf of high-quality publications and better science. Authors can contribute by preparing papers carefully prior to submission and by interpreting reviewers' and editors' suggestions in this collegial spirit, however difficult this may be in some cases.

Abstract:
The object of this research is editing as an artistic phenomenon in the Russian musical culture of the late XX century. The subject of this research is works of the prominent Russian composer Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky. Analysis of musical texts of the composer demonstrated that editing manifests as the paramount method of creating an artistic space of his oeuvres. The main principle for this this research served the principle of historicism as one of the fundamental within national musicology, where an artistic phenomenon is viewed in unity of realization of the traditions and trends of modernity. The author comes to the conclusion that in the works of S. Slonimsky editing first and foremost is a unique principle of realization of the artistic plot, providing exclusive freedom to the composer, exposing all achievements of musical art, allowing to actively work with different cultural codes and freely transform them and reproduce most bold and artistically significant philosophical ideas. The scientific novelty consists in determination of specificity of functionality of the system of expressive means of S. Slonimsky in the context of editing. In the course of research, the author also formulated a number of questions requiring further scientific analysis and new research interpretation.

Abstract:
Abstract Passions are exceptionally important in the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. His passion compositions are based particularly on Luther’s reformation, chiefly on developmental tendency which is based on the works of Johann Walter, Hans Leo Hassler and Michael Praetorius. The most significant forerunner of J. S. Bach was Heinrich Schütz. J. S. Bach’s textual aspect is aimed at the model of passion oratorio the main representative of which was a librettist Heinrich Brockes who worked in Hamburg. The interesting fact is that before the arrival of J. S. Bach, in 1723, there was no long tradition of passions in Leipzig. They were performed there in 1721 for the first time. J. S. Bach is demonstrably the author of the two passions: St Matthew Passion BWV 244 and St John Passion BWV 245. The authorship of Johann Sebastian Bach in St. Lukas Passion BWV 246 is strongly called into question and from St Mark Passion BWV 24 only the text was preserved.

Abstract:
Lloyd Newson has worked in Europe for some twenty-three years with DV8 Physical Theatre, creating powerful socio-political pieces which address sexuality and interpersonal relationships. These works are generally created with performers through workshop processes and collaboratively with composers. London's experimental dance and theatre scenes in the 1980s and early 1990s provided a challenging context for Lloyd Newson's early creative endeavours. Here, Janet Lansdale takes one work, Strange Fish, as the locus of her discussion on narrative positions in relation to dominant forms of modern dance and issues of sexuality, homophobia, and politics within physical theatre. She conceptualizes and contextualizes ‘voices’ as ‘authorial’ and ‘ancestral’, and traces their manifestation in readings of the work. Complementary and sometimes competing voices from author, text, reader, and cultural history are articulated through a range of intertextual perspectives. This is the second in a series of articles on this work. Janet Lansdale is Distinguished Professor in Dance Studies at the University of Surrey, where she was Head of Department, and later Head of the School of Performing Arts. She is the author and editor of four books on dance theory, history, and analysis, the most recent being Dancing Texts: Intertextuality in Interpretation (1999).

The present paper focuses on the commentaries attributed to the Indian Yog?c?ra scholar Sthiramati (sixth century). So far Sthiramati’s work has received far less attention from modern scholars than the texts of other Yog?c?ra authors like Asa?ga or Vasubandhu, possibly because of the erroneous view that as a commentator he has not been an original author in his own right. However, commentators like Sthiramati have shaped the doctrinal development of Yog?c?ra thought by introducing new concepts and reorganizing previous teachings to a similar extent as ‘independent’ authors. In total seventeen works are ascribed to the author Sthiramati in Indian, Tibetan, Chinese and modern Western sources. The main concern of this study is to show some aspects of the relations between three of these works, namely the Madhy?ntavibh?ga??k?, the *S?tr?la?k?rav?ttibh??ya and the Tri??ik?vijñaptibh??ya, and to question the common authorship of these texts.

Abstract:
The fate and personality of Alexander Dobrolyubov gave rise to a kind of Dobrolyubov myth about the eternal wanderer in the culture of the Russian Silver Age and in many ways unfairly obscured his literary work. The article traces the influence of Francis of Assisi on Dobrolyubov's own life-creating strategy and his contemporaries' perception of him as a «Russian Francis. The author considers the peculiarities of artistic interpretation of the whole complex of motifs associated with the fate and personality of the Italian saint in the last collection of Dobrolyubov's works, From the Book Invisible (1905). The author analyzes the image of the pilgrim, glorification (preaching) of the poor, hermit’s life and the unity of man and wildlife, plants and the elements of nature in the context of teachings of St. Francis and the Russian franciscanism of the modernist era; the features of their modernist reception are traced in Dobrolyubov’s works written after his «departure». On the other hand, the author reveals evidence that the poet implements the individual author's interpretation of the characteristic Russian cultural and historical phenomenon of pilgrimage (real, metaphysical and spiritual), which was reflected, for example, in N. S. Leskov’s works, and philosophically interpreted in science and criticism of the early 20th century (V. Rozanov, N. Berdyaev, etc.). The author suggests that the poet was influenced by an anonymous work of Russian religious literature «A Pilgrim's Confessional Stories to his Spiritual Father». As a result, the author concludes that the poet creates a modern variation of the Franciscan image of the «simple man» and the divine man, possessing the gift of communication with nature, who combines the features of an Italian ascetic preacher with the type of a Russian pilgrim-god-seeker.

Abstract:
II. The article considers the problem of "gallant dialogue" as an author 's strategy in the work of A.D. Cantemir, which manifests itself, first of all, in the epistolar genre of the 18th century and is implemented in the tract "Talk of many worlds" by B. Fontenel. "Gallant dialogue" refers to equal respectful relations in the dialogue of interlocutors while maintaining status roles, which affect the change of copyright status in the literature in the first place. The installation itself on the "conversation" outside the waitosis, that is, the established rhetorical system, has already meant the turn of Russian language towards its deritorization, as well as a more active manifestation of the author 's beginning. A.D. Cantemir, who was at the origin of new Russian literature freed from powerful religious content, turns in the search for a "free" literary canon to Fontenel, defending, as is known, in the dispute between ancient and new authors the position of Sh Perro, who proclaimed gallantry - the quality of new French literature. The article considers the constituent elements of A. Cantemir's "gallant dialogue" with his sister Maria, among which are called: courtesy of the addressee, encryption or inventing a nickname for a famous person whose name is not called; assurances of love and knightly devotion, aphoristic statements testifying to the knowledge of secular society by the interlocutor. The cultural and historical method identifies not only the genesis of the phenomenon in question, but also the specifics of the development of the "gallant dialogue" in the Russian literature of the 18th century. The result of this study makes it possible to take a new look at the domestic literary process of the 18th century from the point of view of the development of the author 's beginning in Russian literature, to see the manifestation of those literary patterns that will fully manifest themselves in the literary situation of the second half of the 18th century, or more precisely during the reign of Empress Catherine II.

Abstract:
AbstractEmine Sevgi Özdamar is a representative author of German-Turkish literature, which has been growing in size and importance during the last decades. The present article assumes that authors who use norm-deviant language (diverging from established linguistic practices as well as from conventional and modern literary forms of expression) are particularly capable of making innovative contributions to contemporary German literature. In Özdamar’s narrative works uncertain linguistic attitudes and deficient or “odd” verbalizations can produce aesthetically valuable estrangement effects –; a conception recalling Bertolt Brecht’s literary theory, as well as Ernst Jandl’s experimentations with what he called “heruntergekommene Sprache” (degenerate language). Due, among other factors, to Özdamar’s decision to use predominantly autobiographical material for her narrations, her exophonic writing accompanies in some works childlike-naive forms of perception, and diction that can produce similar effects in respect to linguistic norms and habits. We can observe numerous metaphorical expressions that reveal a playful animistic attitude towards reality. A look at Özdamar’s three-volume autobiographical sequence suggests that the estranging/innovative quality of her literary work decreases with the her gradual integration into the German linguistic and literary community. Viewed in this light, the struggle for literaricity would consist of maintaining and renewing the essential “linguistic strangeness” (Marcel Proust) of her style. Such an attitude is different from a globalized (or globalizing) type of literature, which intends to produce universal linguistic and narrative schemata.

Understanding of the world in the Homeric poems may be misinterpreted today. Since Homer’s works are a product of oral culture, in order to determine his intentions, it is necessary to look at them from the perspective of the tradition from which they derive. Furthermore, the author of an oral work can be deemed as creative because s/he shapes his/her story through interaction with the listening audience. The different aspects of the relationship of women as victims of war with their oppressors are, therefore, interpreted according to the use of traditional techniques adopted to evoke specific emotions in the audience.

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to rational interpretation of the novel “Cyclonopedia” by the Iranian philosopher and writer Reza Negarestani, which particularly draws attention of the young audience. The author believes that it is impossible to grasp such works without interpretation and reconstruction of their themes and contents. Implementing the claimed approach, the author discusses the crucial topic of openness in the novel and peculiarities of the poetics of “Cyclonopedia”. There are two different understandings of openness described by R. Negarestani: one that is attributed to common forms of sociality, proclaiming freedom and open relationships in one or another way; and “epidemic openness”, which overtakes a person, even against his will, and destroys him. The author analyzes the concept of openness, suggesting that on the one hand, the external can be interpreted as listening to the trends of the “futureculture”, while on the other ‒ as criticism and objectification of concepts that claim to know and predict the future, but in fact cannot go beyond the traditional representations of modernism. Explaining why Negarestani compares openness to food, the author offers to consider the Tibetan archaic ritual “Chod” (severance), going through which the monks offer themselves to be devoured by demons. Based on this, the author formulates an assumption that in the course of creating “Cyclonopedia”, Negarestani was affected by the ancient and mystical concepts, and may even have read Davin-Neel’s research on the Tibetan ritual. The author also suggests that certain other themes of “Cyclonopedia” also need to be reconstructed. The article analyzes the reality of the novel: in addition to discussing the theory-fiction genre, the author believes that the reality of “Cyclonopedia” is attributed to phenomenological, which represents the peculiarities the consciousness of R. Negarestani, rather than the external events.

Abstract:
?Project Bentham? which has been started in 1968 is still in progress. This effort of editing Bentham?s voluminous work is naturally accompanied with ?new readings? of Bentham?s old text. Some of those editorial readings shade some light on some of Bentham?s almost forgotten endeavors in the areas of philosophy of language and logic. In this paper author analyze some Bentham?s ideas significant for the contemporary metaethics: 1) facts/values distinction; 2) analytical approach to the language in general; and 3) the theory of fictitious entities. The author concludes that some of Bentham?s analysis and proposals are similar to Charles Stevenson?s metaethical ?emotivism?.

Abstract:
Charles Barrett's work in phase transformation at the atomic level helped redefine the underpinnings of the science and practice of metallurgy. His work in low temperature physical chemistry has extended its range. And, perhaps more than anyone else, as a teacher and author, he has helped introduce the technique of X-ray diffraction to the present generations of practicing metallurgists. The relevance of his contributions is demonstrated by the continuing utility of his widely translated metallurgical text, Structure of Metals, which, when it first appeared, made the understanding of metallurgy at the atomic level accessible to a wide audience. Today this book has become a compendium of first principles.

Abstract:
Disorientation and cognitive overhead are two interrelated problems that may in fact ultimately limit the usefulness of hypertext. Cognitive overhead upon the author arises from a viewpoint that sees the author as the person solely responsible for inserting all links within her work. This includes all links between the anchors in her own work and those in external frames, as well as cross-links between the anchors within her own work. The need for an author to be aware, for each anchor within her work, of all possible other anchors makes the insertion of such links an O(N2) problem where N is the number of possible anchors in the hypertext universe. To reduce this to an O(N) problem this paper proposes the use of bi-directional intelligent anchors. These are anchors that have both a knowledge of the concepts that a potential reader would be seeking were she to arrive at the anchor, together with a knowledge of the concepts that a reader would be seeking were she to jump from that anchor to another within the hypertext. Disorientation or the lost in hyperspace effect on the reader can be addressed in many cases by a fundamental re-definition of the relationship between hypertext authors and their readers. To address this issue, this paper proposes a unit of authorship based more on the treatise than on the traditional fragmented model of hypertext that we call a scenic route and which is based loosely on Bush (1945)'s Trails and Trigg (1988 and 1991)'s Guided Tours.
