Abstract:

Tematem artykułu są autobiografie kopalne, które wykraczają poza ramy antropocentrycznego rozumienia pisma potraktowanego tutaj jako ichnoskamieniałość, ślad aktywności życiowej organizmów kopalnych. W związku z tym podjęto kwestię istnienia pisma zwierząt, które z jednej strony bazuje na filozoficznym pojęciu śladu (Derrida), z drugiej zaś na zapisie kopalnym w obszarze paleontologii. W rezultacie powyższych rozważań autor, wprowadzając za Davidem Hermanem pojęcie międzygatunkowego współautorstwa, koncentruje się na kopalnej autobiografii trylobitów – morskich stawonogów, które ostatecznie wyginęły podczas wymierania permskiego – prezentując zarówno historię ich odkrycia, jak i literackie reprezentacje epoki wiktoriańskiej, których punktem wspólnym stają się oczy trylobitów. Fakt posiadania oczu czyni je ancestralnymi świadkami ewolucji życia na Ziemi i pozwala na włączenie ich w optykę ludzkiego doświadczenia. W tym sensie trylobity obok figury autora tekstu stają się współautorami literackich autobiografii kopalnych.

Abstract Vor nahezu zwanzig Jahren konstatiert Günter Niggl in der Einleitung des von ihm in zweiter Auflage herausgegebenen Studienbuchs Die Autobiographie1, dass ,,[s]eit etwa zwei Jahrzehnten“ in den Geisteswissenschaften das Interesse an Autobiografien ,,sprunghaft angestiegen“ sei.2 ,Autobiografieforschung‘ und ,Biografieforschung‘ haben fortan Konjunktur. Jüngst erschien etwa bei Walter de Gruyter der Sammelband ,,Biography in Theory“3, der Theorietexte zu auto/biographischen Schreibpraktiken und Forschungsfragen unter literaturhistorischer Perspektive zusammenführt. Die Literaturwissenschaftlerin Anja Tippner und der Historiker Christopher F. Laferl stellen den primär gattungsorientierten Sammelbänden einen interdisziplinär ausgerichteten Reader zur Seite, der dezidiert Texte zur Theorie der Biographie und Autobiographie kombiniert und zudem die Gattung der ,Memoiren‘ einbezieht (vgl. S. 11 f., 34). Zusammenhänge und Unterschiede der drei genannten Gattungen werden anhand definitionstauglicher Merkmale näher bestimmt und transparent dargestellt. Diese Herangehensweise ist dem Versuch geschuldet, diejenigen Gattungen zu spezifizieren, die im Sammelbecken des Begriffs life writing unterzugehen drohen (vgl. S. 10). Der Sammelband offeriert in chronologischer Ordnung diejenigen Theorietexte, die bekannte Weg- und Wendemarken innerhalb der weiten Forschungslandschaft ,,lebensgeschichtlichen Erzählens“ repräsentieren (S. 34). Ermöglicht wird auf diese Weise ein fundierter, kulturhistorischer Überblick über zentrale Analysefragen und -methoden innerhalb der europäischen wie angloamerikanischen Autobiografie- und Biografieforschung. Die ausgewählten Textpassagen (u. a. Wilhelm Dilthey, Jean Starobinski, Gérard Genette, Nancy K. Miller, Judith Butler) werden von einleitenden Kommentaren begleitet, die die jeweiligen Editionszusammenhänge wie kulturellen Kontexte bündig referieren. Den Abschluss eines jeden Kapitels bilden weiterführende bibliografische Angaben, die eine vertiefende Lektüre anleiten. Auffallend ist in diesem Zusammenhang, dass innerhalb der Textauswahl und den ergänzenden bibliographischen Angaben primär Texte der Achtziger-, Neunziger- und teilweise Nullerjahre dominieren. Dies überrascht angesichts der Tatsache, dass zum vorgestellten Themenkomplex des Sammelbandes ein Fundus an Forschungsliteratur jüngeren Datums verfügbar ist. Die Präsenz etwaiger Forschungsliteratur jüngeren Datums in der Theorietextauswahl hätte das stetige Interesse, die konstante Profilierung und interdisziplinäre Vernetzung wie Neujustierung der Autobiografie- und Biografieforschung belegen können. Das Vorhaben ,,aktuelle Standpunkte“ (S. 34) versammelt darzubieten, wird demnach nur bedingt umgesetzt, da die Leseempfehlungen es den RezipientInnen selbst überlässt, ihren Weg in die aktuelle Forschung zu finden. Die Einleitung Anja Tippners und Christopher F. Laferls bietet demgegenüber einen konzisen und breiten Überblick. Aktuelle Debatten und Forschungsschwerpunkte wie digitale Medien4, ,,visuelles und textuelles Material“ (S. 18) oder ,,kollaborative“ Schreibtechniken (S. 19) werden zwar in der Einleitung diskursiv erfasst und dennoch in der folgenden Textauswahl weitestgehend vernachlässigt. Der Band versammelt insgesamt siebzehn Theorietexte von vierzehn Theoretikern und drei Theoretikerinnen; dabei entfallen zwei der drei Texte von Theoretikerinnen auf den Bereich ,Gender‘, obgleich Geisteswissenschaftlerinnen auch jenseits der Geschlechterforschung nachhaltig zur Autobiografie- und Biografieforschung publiziert haben.5

Vorspann Bücher haben ihre Geschichte. Wie spannend und lehrreich sie sein kann, zeigt der Historiker Lothar Machtan in einem äußerst lesenswerten Aufsatz über das Memoirenwerk des letzten kaiserlichen Kanzlers. Max von Baden und sein engster Berater Kurt Hahn scheiterten zweimal mit ihrem Versuch, das Image des Prinzen als Totengräber der Monarchie durch aufwändige Selbstmythografie zu korrigieren - zum ersten Mal in der Weimarer Republik, als die Erinnerungen gewogen und als zu leicht befunden wurden, und zum zweiten Mal Ende der 1960er Jahre, obwohl kein geringerer als Golo Mann die Neuauflage besorgte. Als seriöse Geschichtsschreibung getarnte Geschichtspolitik hatte nun erst recht keine Chance mehr. Das Vetorecht der Quellen wog ebenso schwer wie das kritische Urteil der Historiker, die ihrem Ruf als unbestechliche Instanz alle Ehre machten.

Gli articoli di questo numero 4 di Mnemosyne mettono a fuoco il carattere teleologico di tante autobiografie. Analogamente a quanto afferma Frank Kermode (1967) per il romanzo il senso della fine è insito nell’atto stesso del raccontare. Le fiabe sono vere, ha scritto Italo Calvino perché « sono il catalogo dei destini che possono darsi a un uomo e ad una donna, soprattutto per la parte di vita che appunto è il farsi d’un destino » (1967). Inscriversi in un solco rassicura o giustifica l’accaduto. Le modalità sono diverse, e l’idea di una forza del destino è la tela di fondo di molte narrazioni autobiografiche.

De Nederlandse historicus Pieter Geyl (1887-1966) was tijdens de tussenoorlogse periode de schepper van een ’Groot-Nederlandse geschiedschrijving’. Die had als doel de Histoire de Belgique van Henri Pirenne te discrediteren, hoewel Geyl binnenskamers erkende dat zijn Geschiedenis van de Nederlandche Stam een 'aftreksel' was van Pirennes werk. De lastercampagne tegen Pirenne was een onderdeel van Geyls völkische Groot-Nederlandse irredenta, om België te scheuren en de Nederlandstalige helft ervan, Vlaanderen, bij Nederland te annexeren. Dit werd vanaf 1975 aangetoond aan de hand van Geyls gepubliceerde briefwisseling, maar eerlingen van Geyl hebben dat met verontwaardiging ontkend. De publicatie van zijn autobiografie zou de ogen zelfs van blinden moeten openen.________The autobiography of Pieter Geyl: Self assurance and candourThe Dutch historian Pieter Geyl (1887-1966) created a ‘Greater Netherlands historiography’ during the interbellum period. Its objective was to discredit the Histoire de Belgique by Henri Pirenne, although Geyl admitted privately that his Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Stam was a ‘rehash’ of Pirenne’s work. The libel campaign against Pirenne was a part of Geyl’s völkische (populist) Greater Netherlands irredenta, to split Belgium and to annex its Dutch speaking half, Flanders, to the Netherlands. From 1975 this was demonstrated on the basis of Geyl’s published exchange of letters, but his students denied this with great indignation. The publication of his autobiography ought to open the eyes of even those who cannot see.

Abstract:

Im Beitrag wird die Bedeutung von Autobiografie und Fiktion in zwei Romanen der ungarischen Schriftstellerin Magda Szabó analysiert. In vielen Kritiken bzw. Werkinterpretationen erscheint in Bezug auf Szabós Werke der Begriff „Autobiografie“, als ob er ein allgemeines Kennzeichen ihrer Romane wäre. In der Studie werden zuerst die theoretischen Grundlagen der Autobiografie bzw. der Autofiktion kurz dargestellt. Nach Lejeune empfiehlt der Autor immer – meist implizit – einen „Pakt“, der entweder autobiografisch oder fiktional ist. Es wurde aber bewiesen, dass die Grenze zwischen den beiden nicht so stark ist: In einem Werk können sich diese Pakte oder Lesarten vermischen, und man kann von einem dritten, sog. autofiktionalen Pakt sprechen. Nach dem theoretischen Teil konzentriert sich die Arbeit auf die zwei Romane (Az ajtó, 1987 und Ókút, 1976), indem die autobiografischen bzw. die eher fiktionalen Elemente der Texte analysiert werden. So werden sich auch Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede bei der Interpretation der Romane ergeben.

Dieser Artikel befasst sich mit Werner Herzogs Autorschaft, zahlen doch seine Filme der 1970er und 1980er Jahre zum deutschen Autorenfilm bzw. zum Neuen deutschen Film. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf den Spielfilmen und der Autobiografie. Nach den einfuhrenden Uberlegungen zur literarischen und filmischen Autorschaft wird Herzog zunachst als literarischer Autor vorgestellt. Es folgt die Geschichte des franzosischen und deutschen Autorenfilms, bevor in einem abschliesenden Teil Herzogs filmische Autorschaft anhand seines bekanntesten Films Fitzcarraldo erortert wird. Das Ziel des Artikels ist es, die Elemente der genannten Autorschaft, wie Werk, Autobiografie und Autoreflexion zu analysieren und zu kontextualisieren.

Nel primo Ottocento si nasceva ribelli, come afferma Giuseppe Ricciardi nella sua autobiografia Memorie di un ribelle, si ovunque, e la conseguenza di essere ribelli era carcere o esilio per chi era più fortunato. Il saggio mette a fuoco le figure di giovani ribelli, alcuni carbonari, altri affiliati alla ‘Giovine Italia’, altri ancora ‘cospiratori indipendenti’, che nel ‘primo Risorgimento’ diedero l’importante contributo alla lotta per l’indipendenza e per l’identità nazionale. Saranno tra di essi figure meno note, eppure senza di loro non si sarebbe compiuta la grande opera risorgimentale. Si sottopone ad un’analisi il loro atteggiamento verso la realtà in cui vissero, i loro ideali, le loro speranze per dipingere un ritratto del ‘ribelle-modello’ dando uno sguardo ai modi espressivi che adoperarono. Grazie alle autobiografie e memorie lasciate ai posteri, oggi possiamo ricostruire e commemorare al contempo le varie fasi del faticoso eppur vincente cammino italiano verso la libertà.

Abstract:

Questo intervento verte sull’interpretazione del vuoto nell’autobiografia, non solo nel contenuto, ma anche nello stile. Le fonti primarie sono un corpus di 58 scritture autobiografiche di emigranti italiani negli Stati Uniti, emigranti di prima generazione, alcuni rimpatriati, altri trapiantati in America. La maggior parte di essi è “gente comune.” Contrapponendo questi lavori (molti dei quali inediti esempi di scrittura popolare) all’autobiografia propriamente americana (modellata sull’esempio di Benjamin Franklyn), propongo un’interpretazione del loro “non detto”. Primo, le stesse autobiografie si pongono come significativa rottura di un silenzio per uomini e donne scomparsi nelle pagine della Storia e diventati numeri su un biglietto d’imbarco. Questo squarcio nel silenzio non è però un urlo, quanto una narrazione sottovoce. E’ un’espressione del tutto originale e non proprio americana di un particolare ethos retorico, quello che chiamerò dell’individualità quieta.

Abstract:

Artykuł przedstawia życie na dworze sułtana osmańskiego Abdülhamida II na przełomie XIX i XX w., opisane z punktu widzenia jego dwóch córek: Şadiye Osmanoğlu (1886–1977) i Ayşe Osmanoğlu (1887–1960). Obie, niezależnie od siebie, opublikowały wspomnienia w latach 50. i 60. XX w., najpierw w prasie, później w formie książkowej. Ostatecznie ich autobiografie ukazały się pod tym samym tytułem: Babam Abdülhamid [Mój ojciec Abdülhamid]. Analiza literaturoznawcza autobiografii dotyczyła kategorii autonarracji. Księżniczki spisały swe wspomnienia jako siedemdziesięcioletnie kobiety, mające za sobą doświadczenie wygnania z kraju i wieloletniej tułaczki, wymagającej dużej niezależności i samodzielności. Mimo to relacjonując swą młodość, spędzoną w sułtańskim haremie, przyjęły perspektywę młodych dziewczyn, zależnych w pełni od woli ojca i wierzących w wyznawane przez niego wartości. Deklarując zadowolenie z życia w tym męskocentrycznym świecie, traktowały jako naturalny porządek oparty na hierarchii, podporządkowując się pałacowej etykiecie. Dopiero miejsca przemilczane i niedomówienia, szczególnie dotyczące sfery emocji, wydobyte w procesie analizy autobiografii, pokazały, że autonarracja Şadiye i Ayşe Osmanoğlu, choć starannie kreowana, nie zawsze była spójna. Wpojone w dzieciństwie zasady, pragnienie obrony świata wartości porzuconego w czasach Republiki oraz zwykła tęsknota za wygodną i bezpieczną młodością w haremie sprawiły, że księżniczki nie zdecydowały się na to, by ich głos wybrzmiał mocniej.

Abstract:

Questo articolo nasce da una lettura problematizzata di due scritti autobiografici prodotti da ex-militanti di organizzazioni armate di sinistra attive in Italia durante gli ‘anni di piombo’. Attraverso questi dispositivi letterari, gli ex-militanti intervengono in un processo di memorializzazione pubblica stratificato e corale. Prendendo posizione in un ‘dialogo’ con altre raffigurazioni - memorialistiche, giornalistiche e scientifiche - questi ex militanti (ri)producono rappresentazioni esistenziali, storiche e politiche della propria traiettoria personale e di quella dell’organizzazione di appartenenza. L’obiettivo di questo articolo è di analizzare come i diversi autori abbiano individuato, narrativamente svelato e contestualizzato i punti di rottura e di continuità delle loro esperienze, concentrandosi in particolare sull’allontanamento dalla strategia armata. Se, in entrambi i casi, questo è descritto come un processo, l’analisi si concentra sulle diverse scelte evenemenziali che lo scandiscono temporalmente e sulla loro articolazione sul piano pubblico e personale.

Abstract:

This article explores Andr-Marie Ampre's autobiography in order to analyse the dynamics of science in early 19th century French institutions. According to recent works that have emphasised the value of biographies in the history of science, this study examines Ampre's public self-representation to show the cultural transformations of a life dedicated to science in post-revolutionary French society. With this aim, I have interpreted this manuscript as an outstanding example of the scientific rhetoric flourishing in early 19th century French Romanticism, which celebrated the life and works of men of science by means of biographies. Following this approach, Ampre's account has been analysed in relation to certain commonplaces shared with other autobiographies of that time, such as his traumatic experience linked to the French Revolution. Finally, this article discusses Ampre's autobiography as revealing an emerging model of scientific personae, i.e. a new collective way of thinking, feeling and perceiving, which announced the category of the modern scientist.

Eine Jugend (1992) von Ruth Klüger und der Roman von Imre Kertész Roman eines Schicksallosen (1996) verweisen nicht nur auf ein breites Spektrum literarischer Auseinandersetzungen mit der Shoah, mit ihnen steht auch die Verbindung von Nachträglichkeit und Neubeginn zur Disposition. Zwei Textelemente werden hierbei von Bedeutung sein, die »Gespenster« (Klüger) und die »Schritte« (Kertész). Im Rekurs auf diese spezifischen Ausdrucksformen subjektiven Erinnerns wird eine Textbewegung des Festhaltens und Fortschreitens beschreibbar.

Josef Tal ar 1982 der erste "composer in Residence" im Wissenschaftskollege zu Berlin. Pola, Bildhauerin und Textilkünstlerin, seit 1940 mit ihm verheiratet, begleitet ihn in den ersten Monaten des "Studienjahres". Berlin war Josef Tal sehr vertraut. Er ist in Pinne bei Posen 1910 geboren, in Berlin aufgewachsen, als Sohn des Rabbiners Julius Grünthal. Julius Grünthal hat an der Philsophischen Fakultät der Breslauer Universität promoviert mit Schwerpunkt auf die Philologie früher semitischer Sprachen. Er konnte fließend Hebräisch, Aramäisch und Latein. Über seine Kindheit und Jungend erzählt Josef Tal in seiner Autobiografie Der Sohn des Rabbiners: Ein Weg von Berlin nach Jerusalem (Berlin 1985).

Bronisław Świderski to jeden z przedstawicieli polskiej literatury emigracyjnej po 1968 r. Jest autorem trzech powieści – Autobiografie (1981), Słowa obcego (1998), Asystent śmierci (2007) – oraz licznych opowiadań publikowanych w polskiej prasie i czasopismach. W literackim świecie Świderskiego niezwykle ważną rolę odgrywa język, który częstokroć staje się wręcz równoprawnych bohaterem tekstów. Nowatorskim ujęciem u Świderskiego jest dowartościowanie milczenia w procesie komunikacji, a także na gruncie literatury. Ciekawe zastosowania fabularne, narracyjne oraz interpunkcyjne stają się przyczynkiem do pogłębionej refleksji nad współczesną komunikacją, zwłaszcza w obliczu spotkania z Innym, którego uosabia emigrant, osoba z odrębnego kręgu kulturowego, a także, najzwyczajniej, każdy odmienny człowiek.

Abstract:

Sally Perel is a German-Jewish author and Holocaust survivor. During WW2, he tried to protect himself by camouflaging as an ‘Arian’ member of the Hitler Youth, thereby leading a double life as a perpetrator and victim in one person. In Perel, these two identities got along like fire and water and were still present in the same body. This article explores Perel’s autobiography entitled Ich war Hitlerjunge Salomon, focusing on the representation of life experiences and the depiction of National Socialist mechanisms through the eyes of a contemporary witness. Based on theories by Theodor W. Adorno, this study analyzes Perel’s text as an example of the resistance against forgetting and the conscious memorization of atrocities. Thus, Perel’s text is regarded against the backdrop of Adorno's theories, such as Erziehung zur Entbarbarisierung, Erziehung zur Mündigkeit, Erziehung nach Auschwitz and Aufarbeitung der Vergangenheit. Subsequently, it is investigated with focus on the (im)possibility of existence. In other words, Perel’s opposing life as a member of the Hitler Youth and a Jew but also his identification with those ethnicities are illustrated in the given paper.

Abstract In deze bijdrage experimenteert Joeri Verbesselt met de troop van de kannibaal om over de positie van de kunstenaar binnen de hedendaagse (populaire) cultuur te reflecteren. Hij haalt zijn ingrediënten enerzijds uit de westerse geschiedenis van kannibalisme. Maar anderzijds baseert hij zich ook op het concept van cultureel kannibalisme dat ontstond binnen Braziliaanse modernistische avant-gardebewegingen - in plaats van de invasieve populaire cultuur te imiteren of te verwerpen, stelden die voor om deze te kannibaliseren: inkomende prikkels eten, verteren en uitscheiden in een nieuwe, vruchtbare vorm. Verbesselts resultaat is een wansmakelijke recept voor een artistieke benadering van cultuur dat fictie, theorie en autobiografie vermengt tot kladderij.
