Abstract:
The three-dimensional (3D) modeling environment of AutoCAD is used to represent and solve problems of structural geology. As an alternative to bi-dimensional (2D) techniques of classical structural analysis, the 3D capabilities of the software are used for modeling, positioning and measuring geological structures. To introduce the proposed method, two practical examples are presented as exercises with detailed instructions. The technique consists in precisely representing the geometrical entities that comprise the geological problem within three-dimensional space to enable the direct measurement of structural parameters. Accurate results, such as fault displacement and the attitude of several structures, are obtained with the dimension tools of the program, so no calculations are required. Diverse 3D viewing perspectives can be adopted to enhance the comprehension of the analyzed situation.

Abstract:
It is urgently necessary to develop practical programs for different purposes in the field of wastewater treatment. Now the design programs for grit chambers, anaerobic ponds, facultative ponds, aerobic ponds, aerated ponds and polishing ponds are being developed. Programs for automated plotting and man-machine interactive plotting are needed too. By using AutoCAD (Version 9.03 or 10.0), a secondary development of the softwares for engineering drawing of stabilization pond has been developed, which possesses the function of writing out explanatory notes. A program for writing out explanatory notes in Chinese is also being developed. In the process of developing such softwares, high-level language AutoLISP is used, so that the softwares possess artificial intelligence. Up to now the graphic softwares for plotting the general plan drawings and elevation drawings of grit chamber, various ponds, and pond systems have been developed.

Abstract:
With the rapid development of China's space industry, digitization and intelligent is the tendency of the future. The applications of the waveguide are gradually widespread. During the thermal test phase, the routes of the test waveguides are similar for each spacecraft. Although the waveguides are highly standardized, so far it needs engineers to design the particular route of the test waveguidess, then map the engineering drawing for every test. In order to efficiently design the route of waveguide, it needs to design an application to help the engineers. With the help of the MFC(Microsoft Foundation Classes) and the pro/toolkit, it is easily to do the modeling and simulation. After automatic design the particular the route of the waveguide, the API of AutoCAD type library is used to help to modify the engineer drawing. Engineers can supervise every step of this application, and easily to modify the key parameters.

Abstract:
This article illustrates the importance of interoperability between computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. Interoperability is an intricate concept, rife with accusation and blame-laying, and dependent on the unseen algorithms and mathematical equations that drive the lines and geometries CAD users see on screen. At the Daratech 2000 summit, a panel of technology users and technology vendors worked together to draft what was called a symposium communique that challenged suppliers to cooperate more with one another to move toward interoperability. The communique calls the interoperability issue one of the most troublesome aspects of CAD, CAM, and CAE usage. PTC in Waltham, MA, has released Associate Topology Bus, a tool that thy company says helps engineers share data between systems by allowing them to exchange geometry as well as what the company calls design-intent, between systems. Autodesk of San Rafael, California, offers interoperable features as what it calls DWG linking between its AutoCAD software and its 3D Studio Viz, a system used by architects. Its Mechanical Desktop software can read printed circuit board data in intermediate data format (IDF) and convert it to AutoCAD objects suitable for further mechanical design and manufacturing applications.

This paper presents the development and verification of a computer aided design and drafting package for medium sized municipal storm water drainage systems (DRAINAGE). The numerical model, which is designed for use on microcomputers, is written in PASCAL Language and is compiled by PC software TURBO PASCAL version 6.0. The computer package for flow prediction and drainage design applies the Colebrook White Equation and the Rational Method to route pipe flows through tree-type drainage networks, automatically adjusting drainage pipe diameters to fulfil flow requirements and backwater effects. The progrmn outputs are written as DXF files which can be read and displayed readily as drawings of drainage layout plml ,md longitudinal profiles in an AutoCAD environment. DRAINAGE replaces the timeconsuming conventional method for designing stormwater drainage networks. Although the prognun is tailored for application and use in Hong Kong, it can be easily adapted to other situations.

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to develop an integrated system for facilitating the process of designing the drawing dies and their component. The developed system is based on the integration between Computer Aided Process Planning in Sheet Metal Drawn parts “CAPP”, and the Computer Aided Design in Deep Drawing Die components “CAD”. Both modules are coded using Visual Basic program and joined with AutoCAD. The CAPP module made to report the drawing load and to plot the shape of the drawn shell in each stage of the Axis-Symmetric Deep Drawing process. Based on the reported shell geometry, the dimensions of the die components are calculated and transferred to the CAD module. The CAD module, which is based on many data bases (standard parts, sheet metal data), plots the required deep drawing die components for each drawn stage on the AutoCAD monitor. A demonstrated example is presented to validate the developed system and to show that the system results are acceptable.

Abstract:
Die-Set is one of the Punching/Blanking die components. It includes lower and upper shoes, guide posts and guide bushes. The High demand of Die-Set in industry resulted in the supply of specified die set from many manufacturing companies. The standard components in the market cover only the small and medium die sizes. In many cases, the designers need to build their own die-sets especially in case of progressive die design and non-tradition die sizes. In this paper, a CAD system for building a Die-Set is discussed. This system is built using Visual Basic (VB) interfacing with AutoCAD. The system covers all Die-Sets sizes (small, medium). The proposed CAD system is prepared to work as a standalone or as a subroutine for a blanking die design CAD system. It saves time in Die-Set design operation from hours to minutes. This module is a part of a series of studies to automate the design of sheet metal working tools.

Abstract:
In this research, a computer-aided drawing system of spur gear was developed. An auto LISP programming language embedded within the AutoCAD design package was used to develop a new program to create a 3D model of a spur gear in two main stages. In the first stage, the developed program of spur gear allows automatic 2D spur gear drawing generation using the technique that depends on the half tooth thickness at the pitch diameter. In the second stage, inner profiles of a 2D spur gear views are used to create a 3D model of a spur gear. The developed program helpful for the user in drawing the spur gear modelling, due to less work and time to be spent when compared with the conventional approach, and it also improves a high degree of accuracy of spur gear modelling. The spur gear resulting from the prepared gear drawing system can also work with other popular CAD software.

Abstract:
Many companies use Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) systems to create design drawings. Using CADD design as a replacement of the manual drafting method is only a fraction of its potential. The work that is done repeatedly can be in most cases performed automatically through customization. Customization of standard CAD packages can significantly increase productivity. The custom functions and programs can extend the capabilities of CAD packages to perform a wide range of drafting tasks. The paper discusses a customization strategy intended to facilitate completion of some repetitive drafting tasks in mechanical drafting process. One way to extend the capabilities of AutoCAD is by creating and using blocks. Blocks are useful for creating repeated content, such as standard components. The Dynamic Blocks feature enables user to modify blocks by adding parameters, actions, constraints that increase the versatility and power of the blocks. The paper presents two examples in creating and using dynamic blocks in order to save time and get maximum benefits of AutoCAD features. The first example shows a way to manage bolted joints drawing process by defining parameters and actions to the joint standard components. The second one presents a way to define and use a dynamic block with parametric design for radial ball bearings. The customization approach presented, developed for basic AutoCAD package, is intended for automating quite common tasks in mechanical design drafting. The major advantage of customization is the significant increase of drafting productivity.

Abstract:
The article discusses the problems of teaching students engineering and computer graphics in a single course based on a computer-aided design (CAD) system. Examples of training tasks for acquiring knowledge, skills and abilities in the environment of the drawing and graphic editor of the AutoCAD system are given. They are necessary when performing drawings on engineering graphics, as well as the graphic part of course projects for students of mechanical specialties. Examples of exercises for self-study of the material are considered for a deeper study of the drawing-graphic module structure of the system and the acquisition of skills to work with its tools. The article also discusses several topics for studying the graphical editor AutoCAD, it reveals their contents and provides methods for completing practical tasks. A comprehensive training program extends the ability of teachers to submit material, increases students' interest in graphic disciplines, so it can achieve better results in their development. However, there are a number of problems with this approach. Different levels of basic knowledge of students in the field of computer technology require greater individualization in the organization of the educational process. An additional burden for the teacher is to check the electronic drawings and to control the independence of students' work when performing graphic works using CAD. Combining engineering and computer graphics requires more intensive work from students. It is noted that the implementation of the proposed set of tasks is only the first stage of training students in computer technologies for creating design documentation. The acquired knowledge, skills and working skills in the environment of the AutoCAD system will be in demand when studying modern means of three-dimensional modeling. The execution of drawings using computer tools is undoubtedly more attractive to students, compared to traditional drawing. It is also important to create conditions for actualizing the intellectual potential of students, as well as the formation of positive motivation. Enthusiastic students independently master the functions of the system that are not intended for study by the curriculum. They participate with pleasure in Olympiads in engineering and computer graphics. Ways of improving the verification of graphic works by a teacher are developped. A partial solution to the problem of checking the graphic part of course projects using preliminary drawings in a draft version and intermediate printouts of their electronic versions are proposed.

Abstract:
This study focuses on the problem of how to structure spatial and component based building data with the intention to use it in the simulation and analysis of the performance of buildings. Special attention was paid to the interoperability and optimization of the resulting data files. The study builds its investigation onto XML (Extensible Markup Language) data modeling framework. The authors have studied different ways of arranging building information in XML format for effective data storage and have developed a data modeling framework called bmXML for buildings. Initial results are two-fold: a VBA application was developed to create the appropriate building model in AutoCAD with the intention to write building data in bmXML format, and a JAVA application to view the file thus created. This paper primarily focuses on the former, i.e. the AutoCAD application and the bmXML format.

Abstract:
We should equip the graduates of technical universities with the most modern knowledge. It is one of the most impor - tant teaching aims. Civil engineer must be able to draw, read drawings, simulate parts, mechanisms, structures, buildings and sites on their computers. This is a great amount of knowledge and a huge range of skills, and their formation requires a gradual transition from drawings using pencil and ruler, through a standard drawing program (such Autodesk AutoCAD and Compass ASCON) to the more complex software systems (AutoCAD, Revit and AutoCAD Civil 3D). The article presents our experience in developing educational programs for undergraduate and specialties. The program is designed for "General construction", "Railway Construction", "Management of the technical condition of the railway track", "Bridges", "Tunnels and Subways", "Industrial and Civil Engineering", "Water supply and sanitation". The system of training is based on a modular principle. The first module "Descriptive Geometry" uses the classic teaching methods. Although it is supplemented by modern visualization tools (electronic posters, presentations, 3D models). The second module "Engineering Graphics" is built with a focus on computer way of doing drawings. At this stage, we form the basic skills of drawing and 3D-modeling. The main goal the next phase of training (course "Computer Graphics") is to form good skills in computer-aided design. In the last stage (course "Software"), we use the most modern software systems using BIM. An integrated approach can effectively reach both local and general educational purposes and creates a base for the formation of core professional competencies engineer.

Abstract:
The quality of university students’ graphic training should meet modern requirements to design and development execution and design drafting. The role of students’ tools training for wide use of CAD systems in solving of learning problems and execution of project tasks is increasing. It meets modern requirements to designer’s professional activity. The lack of clear and accurate originals for construction of views, sections, schemes and tabular materials, as well as use of hand work and the counterfeit automated software products, are current problems for graphics culture in the field of hydrotechnical design because significantly reduce labor productivity, quality of drawing’s performance and use. The authors offer a novel approach to formation of graphics culture in future engineers in the field of hydrotechnical construction. In this paper the possibilities of the AutoCAD system, mainly as a tool for performance of a wide range of engineering graphics tasks of any complexity when developing drawings for hydraulic engineering constructions have been considered, including: • search and analysis of layout solutions. By using AutoCAD system in its simplest, basic version, one can both analyze configuration of huge structures with accuracy up to 0,001 m and design drawings for more sizeable objects, such as plants, hydroelectric power stations, conglomerations; • design drawings of any subject and complexity. The basic version’s possibilities are quite enough to convert obtained layout solutions into high-quality project documentation that meets the requirements of domestic design standards; • design development for work execution – even without a digitized basis; • construction of loading schemes and stresses epures; • construction of graphs and diagrams. Sequential approach to formation of graphics culture will allow realize a united learning task on engineering and computer graphics for aiding in solution such important task as providing of combination for manual and computer-aided drawing when getting students’ education in graphics courses.

Abstract:
As the landscape design/build industry continues to develop, opportunities for providing baccalaureate degree programs in landscape contracting increase. Employers seek individuals with competencies that are not adequately addressed by traditional horticulture or landscape architecture curricula. The Department of Horticulture at Penn State has developed a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Contracting degree. The program, now entering its fourth year of resident instruction, has experienced rapid growth and a high degree of success. Annual increases in student interest and demand have necessitated caps on the number of students entering the major. An emphasis on design process and on construction technology, and a requirement for successful completion of courses in Horticulture and allied departments contribute to an education which instructs students in the art, science, and management of a professional design/build business. Integration of computer-aided design into Landscape Contracting courses positions graduates to carry current technology to the industry. Students obtain skills on the use of AutoCAD, LandCADD, and New Image software.

Abstract:
Assembly refers both to the process of combining parts to create a structure and to the product resulting therefrom. The complexity of this process increases with the number of pieces in the assembly. This paper presents the assembly planning system design (APSD) program, a computer program developed based on a matrix-based approach and the discrete artificial bee colony (DABC) algorithm, which determines the optimum assembly sequence among numerous feasible assembly sequences (FAS). Specifically, the assembly sequences of three-dimensional (3D) parts prepared in the computer-aided design (CAD) software AutoCAD are first coded using the matrix-based methodology and the resulting FAS are assessed and the optimum assembly sequence is selected according to the assembly time optimisation criterion using DABC. The results of comparison of the performance of the proposed method with other methods proposed in the literature verify its superiority in finding the sequence with the lowest overall time. Further, examination of the results of application of APSD to assemblies consisting of parts in different numbers and shapes shows that it can select the optimum sequence from among hundreds of FAS.

Abstract:
The paper summarizes the analysis of data on european architecture schools, collected in the eCAADe-conferences during the 1990s. Computer-Aided Design has developed into architectural information and communication technology (ICT), to become commonplace in architectural education. However, the general held views on new media use in the schools seems to be slightly optimistic. On the other hand, the invisible more common ICT use (writing, surfing, emailing) accounts for a lot more of the volume of activity than generally appreciated. The major hardware platform in european architecture schools is PC/Windows (90–95%) with Linux and Unix commonly used in servers (25–35%). Macintoshes are also widely used (50–55%). MS Office (90–95%) and PhotoShop (85–90%), are used widely in the schools. The Graphic and DTP tools PageMaker, QuarkXpress, Illustrator, Freehand are also common (30–50%). AutoCAD is the market leader in CAD platforms (80–90%), followed by ArchiCAD. MicroStation/Bentley also has a significant presence in the schools (35–40%). 3DStudio is the most common 3D-modelling tool (80–85%), followed by formZ (35–40%). Less common (15–25%) are Rhino, Maya, Alias, Lightscape and Radiance.

Abstract:
The paper presents the theoretical foundations regarding the operational wear of rail heads. Rail, which constitute the basic element of the railway track, among others, guides the wheel in a lateral direction as well as enables a safe operation of rail vehicles. The criteria for the interaction of vehicles with the railway surface are described and the issues of interaction of the rail vehicle wheel with the rail is described. In the further part of the work an analysis of the influence of rail head wear of the 60E1 rail profile on the value of the moment of inertia Ix and sectional modulus Wx of this profile was carried out. The analysis was conducted on real, previously prepared samples of 60E1 operated rails. The methodology for calculating the geometric characteristics of cross-sectional characteristics of worn rails has been proposed using the Autodesk Autocad (Computer Aided Design software). The obtained values of moments of inertia and sectional modulus were compared with theoretical formulas described in the literature.

Abstract:
Generation of the part programs, or tool paths, for products to be manufactured by computer numerical control (CNC) machines is very important. Many methods have been used to produce part programs, ranging from manual calculations to computer aided design/ manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems. This work introduces a new technique for generating the part programs of existing products using the latest technology of computer vision. The proposed vision system is applicable for two-dimensional vertical milling CNC machines and is calibrated to produce both metric and imperial dimensions. Two steps are used to generate the part program. In the first step, the vision system is used to capture an image for the product to be manufactured. In the second step, the image is processed and analysed by software specially written for this purpose. The software CNCVision is fully written (in lab) using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. It is ready to run on any Windows environment. The CNCVision software processes the captured images and applies computer vision techniques to extract the product dimensions, then generates a suitable part program. All required information for the part program is calculated automatically, such as G-codes, X and Y coordinates of start-points and end-points, radii of arcs and circles and direction of arcs (clockwise or counterclockwise). The generated part program can be displayed on screen, saved to a file or sent to MS Word or MS Excel. In addition, the engineering drawing of the product can be displayed on screen or sent to AutoCAD as a drawing file.

Abstract:
In fact, Computer Aided Design (CAD) offers powerful design tools to produce digital large scale topographic mapping that is considered the backbone for construction projects, urban planning and landscape architecture. Nowadays local agencies in small communities and developing countries are facing some difficulties in map to map transformation and handling discrepancies between the physical reality and represented spatial data due to the need for implementing high cost systems such as GIS and the experienced staff required. Therefore, the require for providing a low-cost tool based on the most common CAD system is very important to guarantee a quality and positional accuracy of features. The main aim of this study is to describe a mathematical relationship to fulfil the coordinate conversion between two different grid references applying two-dimensional conformal polynomial models built on control points and a least squares fitting algorithm. In addition, the automation of this model was performed in the Microsoft Visual Studio environment to calculate polynomial coefficients and convert the positional property of entities in AutoCAD by developing spatial CAD tool. To evaluate the proposed approach the extracted coordinates of check points from the interpolation surface are compared with the known ones.
