Abstract:
Thesis (MSc)--Stellenbosch University, 2001.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Automated teller machines (ATMs) are a very important part of our daily lives. They are the key to accessing our bank accounts. Where they are located can determine how easy or difficult it is to access our bank accounts. ATMs are primarily designed to serve customers and should therefore be accessible and convenient to the customers. Hence, the question of where the ATMs should be located is a prime issue to both the customer and the bank. A geographical information system (GIS) is a tool that can be used to assist in answering questions about locations. It provides a means of determining optimal locations for any spatially referenced object. Against this backdrop, this study was undertaken to develop a method with which GIS can be used to find optimal locations for ATMs, taking Stellenbosch as a case study. Firstly, it was necessary to understand current factors affecting ATM locations, both locally and internationally. An extensive literature survey was conducted to gain an understanding of problems relating to locating ATMs. Interviews with bank officials were conducted to help understand more fully the problems and the current procedures used in locating ATMs. Obtaining the public's perception of ATMs was also paramount to this study. A household questionnaire survey was conducted in Stellenbosch to ascertain how customers feel about the current location of ATMs in Stellenbosch. Secondly, GIS was considered and evaluated as a tool to find optimal locations for ATMs. This involved discussing the capabilities of GIS and the various options that banks may have available. Thirdly, the ability of using GIS to find optimal sites was tested by applying GIS to Stellenbosch. Having done this, GIS was then used to find additional ATM sites. The results provide a basis for banks to locate ATMs in general. Keywords: GIS, ATMs, location, optimal locations, location-allocation, models, MINDISTANCE, MAKCOVER, MAXATTEND, MINDISTPOWER.
Sluitelwoorde: GIS, ATMs, ligging, optimale ligging, ligging-toesegging, modelle, MINDISTANCE, MAXCOVER, MAXA1TEND, MINDISTPOWER

Abstract:
The current method of distributing Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Data Encryption Standard (DES) keys involves manual distribution of the same DES key in component form to all A TMs in a banks network. The components are entered into the ATM keyboard and combined to form the ATM Terminal Master Key (TMK) used for all ATM transactions. Public key cryptosystems can be used to distribute and manage A TM TMKs. However, existing cryptosystem implementations have numerous problems. Moreover, little research has targeted cryptosystem implementations that use tamper-resistant security modules (TRSMs). Almost all security attacks of cryptosystems utilizing security processors and cryptography are the result of weak implementation and deployment. This case study describes how a public key cryptosystem for distribution and management of A TM Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) TMKs may be successfully implemented. This case study was developed to offer a repeatable approach, design, and implementation for a public key cryptosystem for A TM 3DES TMK distribution and management. The study's design was based on a single case, using multiple sources of evidence and propositions. Using Toronto Dominion (TD) Bank as the unit of analysis, the study focuses on four main propositions relating to (a) system development processes (SDPs), (b) electronic data assurances, (c) key and certificate life cycle management, and (d) ATM key hierarchies. Results of the study show that SDPs provided a general framework for system development and were not tailored to specific needs of an A TM cryptosystem. Evidence shows that the ATM public key cryptosystem met all CAIN digital assurance and ATM key hierarchy requirements but did not meet all key and certificate life cycle requirements. The author recommends a modified SDP framework for A TM public key cryptosystems called cryptosystem SDPs. These consist of SDPs, an integration of A TM cryptosystem requirements, and software security best practices. This framework utilizes existing SDPs but adds four new phases to take into account ATM public key cryptosystem requirements.

Abstract:
This study investigates the indicators of the number of ATMs (automated teller machines) in the provinces of Turkey by examining two banks: T.C. Ziraat Bankasi and T. iS Bankasi. The study depends on annual panel data from 1990 to 2004 for seventy-three provinces of Turkey. The information about the number of ATMs of the two banks is gathered after a study in the archives of the banks. In this study it is concluded that the number of ATMs of T. iS Bankasi and T. C. Ziraat Bankasi in the previous year and the total number of branches of the banks in Turkey are the indicators of ATM adoption for both of the banks concerned. However, population has a negative sign for T. C. Ziraat Bankasi which is a state bank whereas it has a positive sign for T. iS Bankasi which is a quasi-private bank. The findings also indicate that the ATM number of T. iS Bankasi is more sensitive to the number of total bank branches.

Abstract:
Recent policy initiatives have identified that the diffusion of innovation constitutes an important component in technical change and progress and is the impetus behind changes in firm productivity. To date, however, the main emphasis of economists has been on the diffusion of process innovations in the industrial sector with diffusion in the financial sector either ignored or, at best, summarised by a number of stylised facts relating to the spread of information. The objective of this thesis is to explore the inter-firm determinants of ATM adoption and diffusion in the UK financial sector and identify firm-specific and market factors in the diffusion process. The empirical analysis draws on duration analysis which represents the current state-of-art modelling approach to inter-firm diffusion. This approach conceptualises inter-firm diffusion as a cross-section of durations of nonadoption from which, most importantly, hypothesised factors (or `covariates') can be examined by their significance or otherwise on the conditional probability of adoption. The main findings of this thesis support the stylised fact often made in the diffusion literature that the inter-firm diffusion curve is sigmoid and characterised by a nonmonotonic hazard function. Furthermore the empirical analysis supports the hypothesis that firm-specific characteristics and expectations have played a crucial role in the interfirm diffusion of ATMs. In addition, the results indicate that the diffusion of ATMs in the UK has been characterised by the existence of positive network externalities. The results are also shown to be robust across a number of model specifications and assumptions concerning the time-path of covariates.

Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2011.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Cash can be seen as a fast moving consumer good. Approaching cash as inventory within the ATM cash management environment of a South African retail bank, provided the opportunity to apply well known industrial engineering techniques to the financial industry. This led to the application of forecasting, inventory management, operational research and simulation methods. A forecasting model is designed to address the multiple seasonalities and calendar day effects that is prevalent in the demand for cash. Special days, e.g. paydays, lead to an increase in demand for cash. The weekday on which the special day falls will also influence the demand. The multiplicative Holt-Winters method is combined with an improvised distribution method to determine the demand for cash for the region and per ATM. Reordering points are calculated and simulated to form an understanding of the effect this will have on the ATM network. Direct replenishment and the traveling salesman problem is applied and simulated to determine the difference in using one or the other. Various simulation models are build to test the operational and financial impact when certain variables are amended. It is evident that more work is required to determine the optimal combination of variable values, i.e. forecasting frequency, aggregate forecasting or individual forecasting, reorder levels, loading levels, lead times, cash swap or cash add, and the type of transportation method. Each one of these are a science in itself and cannot be seen (calculated) in isolation from the other as a change in one can affect the overall operational efficiency and costs of the ATM network. The thesis proves that significant cost savings is possible, compared to the current set-up, when applying industrial engineering techniques to a geographical ATM network within South Africa.

In Bank3.0 era, banking has transformed into a ubiquitous service in terms of a place, banking transformation has become an inevitable trend, increasing of worldwide banks has been reducing the number or shrinking the size of branches. The digital services are replacing manual work. The branches are replaced by Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The location of ATMs is an important role in the Bank 3.0 era. Although the location of ATMs is extremely important, however, only a handful of scholars and experts analyzed the location of the ATMs and how the location affects the bank's profitability. Therefore, this study adopts Central Place Theory and Principle of Minimum Differentiation to set rules on selecting ATM locations. This study will first review literatures, summed up the criteria for ATM location, and into a regional ATM bank's geographic information and frequency of use. By applying Rough Set Theory to deduce the decision rule for reduction sets and core attributes. The association between neighborhood and ATM locations can be formulated. This study will be major domestic banks, the actual ATM location, data mining research was carried out by the frequency of usage, with an e-map to identify neighborhood of each ATM. As for the empirical research, selection rules of ATM locations can be analyzed and deduced to serve as a reference for decision makers during location assessment for new or removal of inefficient ATMs.

Full text
Abstract:
Research develops a comprehensive model of automated banking service quality, including the internet, ATMs and telephone banking services, and examines how this service quality impacts on satisfaction, retention and financial performance of the bank.. The use of automated banking services has become widespread in Australian banks. The introduction of automated banking services has established numerous opportunities for business professionals to enhance current marketing and accounting practice. However, the investigation of marketing relationships and financial performance in an automated banking services context is limited. Further-more, those models currently available to measure automated service quality are limited in their focus, encompassing only one electronic channel - the internet - thereby ignoring attributes of the other automated service channels, such as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and telephone banking services. Accordingly, this research develops a comprehensive model of automated banking service quality taking into account the unique attributes of each automated delivery channel and other dimensions that have the potential to influence quality issues. This research thus bridges the gap that existed in the current body of knowledge (1) by investigating the impact of automated service quality on satisfaction, retention, and bank financial performance, and, (2) by comparing these relationships in both the automated and the traditional banking contexts. Given these gaps in the literature, the research problem in this research is: How does service quality impact on satisfaction, retention and financial performance in an automated banking context and how does that impact differ from the impact of service quality on satisfaction, retention and financial performance in the traditional banking context? To investigate the research problem, a pilot study involving 35 bank customers was used to check the initial reliability and validity of the constructs in the questionnaire. Then, the questionnaire was developed and administered face-to-face, to bank customers to obtain data needed to investigate the research questions. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was employed to refine the measurement items and test for reliability and validity. The research proceeded to test the specified hypotheses using structural equation modelling techniques. There are three main findings. First, it is found that automated service quality has an indirect positive influence on bank financial performance, mediate by customer satisfaction and retention. Second, it is found that automated service quality has a positive direct significant influence on customer satisfaction, but not with customer retention and bank financial performance. ATM and internet banking quality influence customer retention negatively and none of the automated service quality factors has a significant direct relationship with bank financial performance. Third, the results demonstrates that service quality in a traditional banking context also influence bank financial performance indirectly through customer satisfaction and retention. Thus, customer satisfaction and retention are the key constructs in enhancing financial performance in both contexts. However, service quality in a traditional banking service has a stronger influence on customer satisfaction than automated services and does not facilitate the switching behaviour of customers, unlike the automated service model which did facilitate customer switching. Thus, banks should have as their first priority the improvement of the quality of personal interaction with bank customers; then they can move forward to the quality issues of automated services. It therefore could be concluded that automated services are a strategic necessity, rather than a move to implement an advantageous competitive choice; automated services thus present both opportunities and challenges to the bank sector. The automated service quality model provides a comprehensive picture of understanding the role of automated banking services on customer· satisfaction, retention, and bank financial performance. Bank administrators can utilise this model as reference points, in order to highlight those automated service quality aspects which may need further enhancement. Further-more, researchers can use these results as a basis for subsequent studies in other service organisations that utilise technology to deliver their services. Such studies contribute to the growing field of automated service quality research.

In 1997, to deal with the commitment of “Machine Cheating”, Taiwan enacted amendments of §339-1 to §339-3 in the Criminal Code of Republic of China (the Criminal Code). By comparing the new amendment of §339-3 with the §263a of the German Criminal Law, this thesis mainly focused on the interpretation of “Unlawful Method”, ”Input”, ”False Information”, “Unlawful Instruction Code” , and other statutory elements. Furthermore, this thesis pointed out the lack of certain type of enactments, which would correspondingly govern crimes of computer cheating. The element “Automatic Payment Machine” of §339-2 also belongs the concept of “Computer”. This leads to the induction that a perpetrator could violate §339-2 and §339-3 at the same time. Since the Legislator has already enacted §339-2, imposing §339-2 on perpetrator would suffice. However, the interpretation of “Unlawful Method” is quite controversial. Some asserted “The Similar Character of Fraud”, some argued “Subjective Intent”, and others claimed “Service Terms of Machine”. In other words, the interpretation of Unlawful Method plays a key role to simultaneously satisfy the Legislator’s initiative of §339-2 as well as the principle of clarity and definiteness. The element “Automatic Charge Machines” of §339-1 consists of many variations. Some serve by gear wheels, and others function by computer program. Therefore, whether all Automatic Charge Machines belong to the element “Computer” of §339-3 depends on case-by-case. In short, the “Unlawful Method” of §339-1 means the fact pattern that conductor benefits from the operation of machine, but actually she does not pay money out of her pocket.

In this paper, we develop a real time facial occlusion etection for automated teller machine(ATM) surveillance. The system can be applied either in long(lens with fixed focal length 8mm) or short(lens with fixed focal length 8mm) distance with complex background. First, we adopt dynamic information to segment moving object. In the segmentation step, we propose a Merge by Straight Line Fit(MSLF) method to overcome the drawback of finding motion edge. The color histogram and center coordinate are used to track people. When the system determines people coming forward to the ATM, it finds the lower boundary of the head and uses the elliptical head tracker method to locate the head region. We detect the facial occlusion by calculating the ratio of skin color area to face region. If the facial occlusion occurs, the system issues warning message. The system is implemented on a PC with Pentium III 1.0 GHZ CPU and Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system. A warning alarm will be issued once the occlusion case is detected. We used VPON surveillance system to capture video sequences. We have made a prototype of ATM. Furthermore, the camera is installed similarly to the setup of commercial ATM. The size of input is 320£240. The proposed system achieves 100% correct for non- occlusive detection and 96.15% correct in occlusive detection, the overall performance is 96.43%. It works at the speed of 5-20 frames per second.

There are plentiful studies discussing the relationship between information technology (IT) investment and firms’ performance. As the well-known representative of IT investment, the banking industry is a highly information sensitive industry and needs to invest heavily in IT to improve its operating efficiency and customer satisfaction. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the relationship between automatic teller machine (ATM) investment, standing for the well-known IT application in banking industry, and cost efficiency of banks. However, previous literatures related to ATM usually use dummy variables representing the introduction of ATM to measure the operating efficiency. This sort of measurement can only provide limited description to explain the feedback of ATM on bank cost efficiency. Thus, in order to improve the inadequacy of past studies, we collect the actual number of ATMs, operating data, and extract financial data of banks from their annual reports in this research. The empirical results confirm our hypothesis that the intensity of ATM has positive effect on cost efficiency of banks. In addition, we found that bank scale is also positively related to cost efficiency, while non-performing loans and salary level have negative impact. We believe that these results can provide important implications for banks, ATM firms, and researchers to better understand the relationship between innovative IT investment and firms cost efficiency.

The financial circles of new generation raises the construction cost of the personnel year by year under the circumstances that the customer service is required, every financial bank is besides accelerating in the offering of all kinds of financial service automation, also do the best to improve the service quality in the financial service pluralism with all strength and conveniently. In the financial service system designed based on information science and technology, belonging to the thorough fare of ATM and serving the system popularizes and accepts degree high most. But when this kind of thorough fare serves quality and happens unusually, because serve and remedy the reason immediately with worse time will most likely influence customers to serve the appraisal of quality to the financier wholly seriously. This research discuss law, make investigations law and deepen interview to analyze and research to the management service quality of ATM with documents. The result of study shows, “ATM machinery equipment is normal” and “ATM security and deals with the problem” is the key that improved for the management service quality of ATM. Proposition of this key service metric attribute, will contribute to financial bank improve the management service quality outside ATM committee, and then strengthen the financial bank's enterprise competitiveness.

This thesis designs a real time ATM security system which could avoid the bandit draws money from ATM. When a person uses the ATM system, the security system will be triggered and identify whether the user’s face is covered or not. If the system finds the user’s face is covered, the ATM is locked and the alarm is working, until the user takes off the covers. By the way, the security system also records the image of the user’s face. Based on the skin color quantity and the human’s face features, the security system has three stages to identify whether the user’s face is covered or not. If the pre-stage is passed, then the ATM user will go to the next stage. If all stages are passed, the user’s face is identified to be not covered and he can draw money from the ATM. Stage 1 extracts the face area from the image and checks the rate of the skin color in the face area. If the rate is larger than the threshold, then this stage is passed. Stage 2 uses connected component label algorithm to calculate the rate between the width and length of the skin color. By using the normal rate of the face, we can avoid the mistake of skin-color area which is not face. Stage 3 uses the feature of human face to identify whether the human nose and mouth are covered or not. The experiment result shows that the proposed security system works successfully.

In recent years, in order to accelerate business development and increase system uses flexible, there are a number of banks to replace the core banking system. However, imported from abroad, the core banking system, due to interface and process different, not with the Financial Information Service Corporation, the Joint Credit Information Center financial information such as exchange of information operations center, These have faced the dilemma of the need to adjust the system.. In this rapidly changing era of information systems development and adjustment process is often the key to victory or defeat. If the system changes in response to immediate business needs, the enterprise is a big benefit. Service-oriented architecture applications can function both as a service, but also packaging business processes as services, to maintain the benefits in the future for even more apparent. Therefore, this study will be cut into the service-oriented architecture for a domestic bank automatic teller machine system of case studies. By JAVA programming language implementation will be analyzed after the "components" into a "service." To change the face of increasing market automatic teller machine system can change rapidly in response to raise the competitiveness of enterprises.

In order to deal with the arrival of the digitalization era, Financial Supervisory Commission, R.O.C(Taiwan) announced in January of 2015 to push 「Establish Digitalizing Monetary Environment 3.0」program. In the meeting between Financial Supervisory Commission and the foreign banks officials in October of 2015, foreign banks officials predicted that by 2020, bank branch numbers will drop by 50%, and the volume of the traditional banking service and the deposit and remittance transactions as handled by the bank branch staffs will shrink to only 4%, because ATM(Automated Teller Machine) will function for accounts opening and card issuance, thus largely taking over the manual operation. ATM has been in service in Taiwan for nearly 40 years. ATM interbank cash withdrawal transaction also had been in service in Taiwan for nearly 30 years. Yet, ATM interbank cash deposit function had never been implemented until April of 2015 when the first bank in Taiwan introduced ATM interbank cash deposit service. Faced with the development of digitalizing monetary, the development of self-service technology and monetary service innovation and the influencing factors of willingness to use ATM interbank deposits are the motive of this study. By using questionnaire survey method in this study, I select Technology Acceptance Model as the research axis, plus such as Self-service Technology, Technology Readiness, Diffusion of Innovations and Theory of Planned Behavior, all in order to explore the acceptance willingness in the use of the ATM interbank deposits. The study results suggest that those which have influences on Attitude of Using ATM Interbank Deposits, include Improving Efficiency, Relative Advantage, Compatibility, Complexity, Observability, Self-control, Trialability, Transaction Security, Self-image, Optimism and Innovativeness; the only one which has no influence is Extraversion. As to the influences on The Intention of Using ATM Interbank Deposits, they are the Attitude of Using ATM Interbank Deposits, Subjective Norms and Out-side Perceived Behavioral Control. In conclusion, the followings are recommended: In order to increase Improving Efficiency and Relative Advantage, the financial institutions increase network bandwidth and set up more ATMs; In order to decrease Complexity, the financial institutions develop more friendly operation interface; in order to increase Trialability, the financial institutions waive or reduce fees for trial usage, hoping to increase the customers' satisfaction and reliance; in order to increase Transaction Security, the financial institutions add service of instant messaging notification; in order to promote Self-image, the financial institutions buy ads on the medias; for Extraversion and Out-side Perceived Behavioral Control, the financial institutions evaluate the necessary number of tellers and ATMs to reach a balance from the point of cost. In all, how the locations selection for ATMs installation, and how the decision on numbers of tellers, can create most benefit to both the customers and the financial institutions, thus obtaining a win-win situation, are the direction of our consideration and planning.

Under such strong impacts, like financial liberalization, internationalization, and the participation in World Trade Organization (WTO), the competition between different financial institutions has been fiercer nowadays. Moreover, the fast soaring personnel expense and housing rent make the cost of setting up a new branch of a bank higher and higher. In order to deal with the increasing business and enhance the quality of service, the automation of banking service seems to be an inevitable way that all financial institutions must follow. Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) is a device that customers can operate by themselves. ATM is also an extension of a bank, which used to confine its service to the lobby, and provides 24 hours service. The cost of building up an ATM is definitely not inexpensive; therefore, a wrong location of an ATM would lead to the idling and the waste of equipments. As a result, it becomes an essential issue for a bank decision maker to pick up a right location of ATM and to satisfy customers’ needs for fear of the potential loss of clients and business opportunities. Through the theoretical and empirical exploration, the aim of the study is to form a feasible structure for choosing the right location of an ATM. The study also uses open-ended questionnaires and t test to probe some preliminary factors and to find out the optimal solutions so that a bank decision maker can avoid making mistakes while he or she wants to establish an ATM.

In recently, ATM crime has frequently occurred, most of the suspect will conceal their identity by wearing some occlusion object. However, this is allowed that the user is cover their face or not presently. To deal with this issue, the police mostly investigate the case by access the video tape captured from the security camera frame by frame after the incident was reported. Besides the security, there is no way to solve this immediately at this stage. According to the issue, we mentioned above, we present a new point of view to deal with it. Out concept is: “If we could verify whether there is one or more person has high masking level in the visible field in the video, then we could doubt that person is probably going to crime”. Depends on this, we could notice the security to make a decision in time and take action more efficiently. In this paper, we present a convolution-neural-network which is base on YOLOv2 for object detection, mainly focus on the occlusion images which involve cap, sunglasses, mask, helmet and their combination as our training data. Also, at training, we initialized our networks by pre-training a model, then using our own made data to train our networks again. At testing, we replace the traditional way of filtering the wrong prediction and apply some technique to improve the performance of recognition ability.

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) service diversity is an important tool for banks to reduce costs and expand points of access. In order to reduce labor costs, customers are encouraged by banks to use ATMs instead of counter service for banking transactions. According to the latest statistics from the Banking Bureau of the Financial Supervisory Commission, Ministry of Finance, ATM transaction volumes have increased steadily year by year. This study aims to provide an analysis of ATM characteristics in relation to the different times and cities that transactions take place, as well as to understand various factors impacting the ATM proceeds. By identifying the best driving factors of ATM proceeds, this study hence enables banks to make decisions on ATM deployment strategies. This study used the ATM transaction data of a bank to analyze daily transactional information of each ATM over a 6-month period in 2014. Through the methods of “Analysis of Variance”, the “Classification and Regression Tree” and others, differences in various factors have been verified and impacts on the types of ATM transactions by time, channel, city and model have been analyzed. In this study, key factors affecting transactional frequency and amount have been discussed and hypotheses have been examined via analysis of multiple factors. As the result of study shows, transaction behaviors vary between weekdays and weekends/holidays in branches, company plants and convenience stores where ATMs are installed. Regarding the types of transactions, service charge can affect users in the selection of an ATM site. When geography (city) is considered, it is recommended for banks to install ATMs in 6 metropolitan cities, Hsinchu City and Keelung as the first priority than any other cities in Taiwan.

This study mainly discusses the impact of the development of Taiwans mobile payments on the banking’s ATM business. Although the data shows that the number of ATMs, the number of transactions and the dollar amount of transactions all grow, the number of the financial card also growing during the research period. As the financial card increasing, the number of transactions and the dollar amount of transactions of the ATM must grow. However, if we convert into the monthly transaction number and dollar amount of transactions of each financial card, the trend of growth has declined slightly. Through the t-test and regression model, as the development of mobile payment, the number of ATMs has indeed increased, but the number of transactions and the dollar amount of transactions of each financial card does show a downward trend.

ABSTRACT With the booming development of new banks, the domestic bank marketing has encountered fierce competitions. To survive in the worldwide market, building larger scale of assets and the sell platforms have become the basic criteria. Utilizing matured technology, low-cost platforms and automatic service equipment which customers preferred can become the foundation of platform service. Moreover, the technologic platform has become the priority in current banking market. While the automatic technology service has become the lucrative star, still there are defects criticized by users such as poor service quality. Therefore, this research used subjects located in the middle of Taiwan, according to the model of Meuter et al., (2000) to investigate the automatic service technology for network and categorization items. Also, the research used categorized project and adopted Critical Incident technique (CIT, Flanagan, 1954) to examine the satisfaction factors of automatic service, convenient supermarket and ATM banks. Besides the findings of source and proportion of satisfaction and dissatisfaction factors, the research will investigate different categorization of sources and factors. Generally, the newly-increase satisfaction factors are classified as follows. 1. Machine humanization designing(1a. Service reminding 1b. New cash service 1c. Art relative activities). 2. A complete set of service(2a. Offering tickets of coupon 2b. Personnel helping 2c. Interactive games) 3. Environment factors The newly-increased dissatisfaction factors such as: 4. Environment factors (4a. dirty and messy place 4b. lacking safety). This research not only defined these newly-increased satisfaction factors but also provided suggestions and implications for banking management to improve the quality of automatic banking service technology and marketing strategies in the future.

The ATM is the most popular of the e-bank service system; however, the imme-diate service remedy is unsatisfying, which significantly influences customers’ evalua-tions on service quality. IPA is a common analytical tool used by management; however, in the model, there is conflict between two practical applications. This study adopted the IPSM), which is a modified IPA, and emphasized that importance measurements should be based on levels of attribute satisfaction that enhance overall satisfaction, while performance measurement should be upon the gap between expected performance and cognitive performance. This study also adopted the Kano two-dimensional quality model. According to study purposes and literature review, this study conducted a ques-tionnaire survey on customers’ importance and performance, and discussed the analytical result of IPA and IPSM. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed, and 350 valid samples were collected; the valid return rate is 87.5%. Results revealed that items “the ATM provides customers with important information required” and “ATM provides diverse services” are in the “possibly over importance zone” of IPA, but in the “immediate improvement zone” of IPSM. “Immediate communication to fix the breakdown in transactions through ATM” is in the “focus zone” of IPA, but in the “supply exceeding the demand” zone of IPSM.

ATMs are offering more and more services, especially when the ATMs in convenience stores are combined with diverse industries. This combination not only offers the consumers more choices of bargains but also the opportunities for lottery winning. ATM has transformed into a machine with purchase function. The research is based on “consumer’s utility” to study the consumer’s cognition of ATM services in convenience stores. What’s more, the research also aims to study whether the consumer’s utility behavior will change because of the benefits offered by ATMs. Past studies focused on the ATMs lack the various functions that modern ones have, so the research purposely discuss whether the benefits offered by ATMs will affect the utility preference, as a reference for financial business. The participants of the study were the consumers who actually used the ATMs in the convenience store in Kaohsiung city. 600 questionnaires were placed in several convenience stores, 544 were collected, 470 were valid, and the response rate was 86.93%. The study adopts descriptive statistical analysis, factorial analysis, reliability analysis, ANOVA, independent measures t test, and multiple regression analysis. The findings are: 1. Different consumer statistics has significant difference between the cognition of consumer’s utility of ATM of convenience stores. 2. Different consumer statistics has significant difference between the preferential policies offered by financial business. 3. Consumer’s utility behavior is relevant to the preferential policies offered by financial business. 4. Consumer’s cognition of ATM utility is relevant to it utility preference. 5. The preferential policy offered by ATM is relevant to the consumer’s utility preference.

Automated teller machines (ATMs) provide customers with safe and efficient financial services round-the-clock, while simultaneously reducing operating costs. They have consequently become an integral aspect of financial service systems across the world. Clients’ satisfaction with ATM service is an important concern for these firms. High-quality service provision necessitates analysis of factors underlying service failure. This paper uses a questionnaire survey to aggregate customer responses regarding their use of ATMs and their overall satisfaction toward this experience, and then employs a simple regression model to explore how individual service items affect their overall satisfaction. Lastly this paper presents an influence index which, combined with the satisfaction index, allows for the construction of a performance evaluation matrix. This paper also uses the mean of the two indices to create dynamic standards for ongoing quality management. Statistical inference is conducted to obtain interval estimations regarding both indices in order to counter the uncertainty of service quality evaluation caused by sampling error. Using this criterion, financial market operators can determine the standard of their service quality, as well as outline strategies for improvement.

Micro-enterprises are the most common type of SME in the European Economic Area, accounting for 93.2 % of the non-financial business sector (Muller, Julius, Herr & Peycheva, 2017). Due to their importance, the focus of this work will be on micro-enterprises. They are defined by two factors: firstly, the number of employees has to be lower than ten, and secondly, the turnover or the total assets must be lower than or equal to two million Euros (European Commission, 2014). Business intelligence systems (hereinafter: BIS) have become significantly important in the business world and academic community over the last two decades (Chen, Chiang & Storey, 2012). The global revenue reached a volume of $ 18.3 billion in 2017 and is forecasted to reach $22.8 billion by the end of 2020. Modern BIS continue to expand more rapidly than the overall market (Moore, 2017). The benefits of the integration of BIS can be seen longterm, users are typically decision makers at higher organizational levels (Puklavec, Oliveira & Popovic, 2014). With the usage of BIS, knowledge workers such as executives, managers, and analysts can make better and faster decisions (Chaudhuri, Dayal & Narasayya, 2011). The proper usage of BIS can be seen as a prerequisite for business success, but these tools are often complex and require a high level of expertise to work with (Davenport, 2017). It is a challenge for micro companies to implement BIS because they have often only a limited set of financial and human resources (Puklavec, Oliveira & Popovic, 2014).

Owing to the advance of technology, aging of population, high prevalence of chronic diseases, and rising awareness of self-health management, the cloud healthcare management system platform has become more popular on the market. Health automatic teller machine (HATM) provides people with convenience and composite measuring instruments. There is also offers personal and exclusive cloud health accounts. However, the percentage of usage is insufficient. Therefore, this study will combine the health belief model, technology acceptance model and trust to investigate the affecting factors in behavioral intentions. In this study, the 279 valid responds were collected via internet survey, and used statistic software SPSS 22.0 and smartPLS 3.2.3 to test the relation of hypothesis and the explanatory power of dependent variables. The results showed that perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness was affected by trust, perceived usefulness was affected by perceived ease of use, user’s attitude was affected by perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, and behavioral intention was affected by perceived usefulness, attitude, perceived barriers to taking action, perceived benefits of taking action and cues to action.

Thaver, Gerald. "A typology of the requisite skills for financial services employees to enhance self-service technology usage : the case of the South African banking industry." Thesis, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/19906.

Full text
Abstract:
Financial services institutions invest in self–service technologies for various reasons. These include the demands to rationalise costs and to meet the channel preferences of a „technology- savvy‟ client base. Some advantages of self–service technologies (“SSTs”) include the optimisation of staff activities and faster and improved customer services. Retail banks experience various migration-related costs when migrating customers to an SST environment; in terms of both branch infrastructure and the development of employee skills. Some customers continue to favour face-to-face service interactions, which necessitates an identification and evaluation of the necessary skills required by employees to facilitate this migration process. This study aims to both identify and classify the requisite skills needed by financial services professionals to enable them to migrate customers from physical to electronic service channels; including ATMs. With the appropriate training and competencies, employees can guide customers more effectively through the migration process in a non-judgemental way. This would, in turn, address the lack of self-service technology understanding among customers in the longer term. The lack of support from skilled service employees has, in many instances, led to customers paying higher transactional fees and experiencing inconvenience at physical channels, thereby resulting in overall lower self-service usage.

Thobane, Mahlogonolo Stephina. "The criminal career of armed robbers with specific reference to cash-in-transit robberies." Diss., 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/18353.

Full text
Abstract:
Criminal career research postulates that offending behaviour develops over time during the course of one’s life. Thus, delinquency is not an isolated incident which occurs at a certain moment in time. This research comprises a mixed-method study of the criminal career of 40 offenders who perpetrated robberies against the banking and CIT industries. Through this research, an exploration is made for possibilities of using criminal career research to develop results which will guide crime prevention policies. The qualitative methodology used for this research included semi-structured interviews in order to collect information on motivations of armed robbers and the various mechanics (i.e. planning, recruitment, group dynamics) of the crime of armed robbery. Through the use of structured questionnaires, biographical data, information on risk factors and figures on the different aspects of a criminal career, such as age of offending onset, offending frequency and seriousness, and career length, were all gathered. The general findings of this research demonstrate that offending onset occurs between the ages of 11 and 15 with petty crimes, and then escalates to serious crimes. Secondly, witnessed throughout the dissertation is the fact that development of delinquent behaviour is not a result of a single risk factor but an outcome of multiple risk factors. Subsequently, a suggestion is made for the introduction of multifaceted deterrence programmes, which will holistically deal with the various offending risk factors (i.e. family, community and the offender’s personal risk factors as well as peer and school dynamics). Thirdly, armed robbers are responsible for various other crimes in the process of committing the offence of robbery. Accordingly, this study confirms the criminal career notion that a small number of chronic offenders are responsible for a large number of offences. That is why it is recommended that policy makers pay attention to disrupting the criminal career of this small number of high risk offenders.
