Abstract:
This dissertation thesis is focused on the problem of the Automatic Tool Change for milling centers, which is recently shown as a very current topic. The content of this work is to conduct a comprehensive research of various types of ATC depending on the type of machine, as well as research of the current tool interface relating closely with these problems. There was made a comprehensive analysis on the basis of data obtained by comprehensive research, from which both the main factors affecting this topic and the area dealed and developed by this work resulted. The most problematic area of machinery used nowdays for the Atomatic Tool Change was detected as manipulator provided the exchange between spindle and tool storage. Kinematic structure and design of individual elements affects very significantly the dynamics of the whole process of exchange of tools. Therefore, the work is focused on problematic of the manipulator. The main results of this thesis are constructional design of several types of manipulators, which were partly realized within the project 1.2.4 of Brno department of RCMT in the form of the testing stands. There was developed simulation models for selected types of manipulators which were verificated by measuring on the real stand. On the basis of abovementioned problem there was identified another key issue related not only to the exchange process but also with complex problem of service life of spindle. It is a grab force in the process of picking tools. The work outlines the possibilities for further research of these forces on the service file of spindle (especially on service life of bering groups of spindle).

Abstract:
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 23-26, 2000 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California
Automatic spectrum management and monitoring systems are very useful to manage frequencies at test ranges and assure interference-free transmission of telemetry signals. Spectrum management systems assign telemetry frequencies using database information on available and occupied channels and analysis tools which can determine whether a data link will support telemetry. Modern, DSP-based spectrum monitoring systems, in fixed or mobile configurations, automate the process of performing spectrum occupancy to verify clear channels and identify and locate sources of interference; they are integrated with and utilize the management system database. Such systems are important to assure reliable communications channels for telemetry.

Abstract:
Climate changes bring problems related to nature evolutions. Global warming has an impact on sea level, weather patterns, and wild life. A number of national and international organizations are developing research programs in these directions, including threats on cultures and insect proliferation. Monitoring these phenomena, observing consequences, elaborating counteracted strategies are critical for the economy and society. The initial motivation of this work was the understanding of change impacts in the Mekong Delta region. From there, automatic observation tools were designed with a real time information system able to integrate environmental measures, then to support knowledge production.Tracking environment evolutions is distributed sensing, which can be the association of efficient sensors and radio communications, operated under the control of an information system. Sensing insects is very complex due to their diversity and dispersion. However, this is feasible in the case of intensive agricultural production as it is the case of rice, having a small number of pests. An automatic vision observatory is proposed to observe the main threats for the rice, as an evolution of manual light traps. Radio communication weaves these observatories into a network with connection to databases storing measures and possible counteractions. An example observatory has a fisheye camera and insect counting algorithms for the BPH practical case in Vietnam.By considering the observation system as an input for an abstract machine, and considering decision and actions taken as a possible control on the environment, we obtain a framework for knowledge elaboration that can be useful in lots of other situations

Abstract:
Cryptography is the foundation of modern IT security,it provides algorithms and protocols that can be usedfor secure communications. Cryptographic algorithmsensure properties such as confidentiality and data integrity.Confidentiality can be ensured using encryption algorithms.Encryption algorithms require a secret information called a key. These algorithms are implemented in cryptographic devices. There exist many types of attacks against such cryptosystems, the main goal of these attacks is the extraction of the secret key.Side-channel attacks are among the strongest types of attacksagainst cryptosystems. Side-channel attacks focus on the attacked device, they measure its physicalproperties in order to extract the secret key. Thus, these attacks targetweaknesses in an implementation of an algorithm rather than the abstract algorithm itself.Power analysis is a type of side-channel attacks that can be used to extract a secretkey from a cryptosystem through the analysis of its power consumption whilethe target device executes an encryption algorithm. We can say that the secret information is leaking from the device through itspower consumption. One of the biggest challenges in the domain of side-channel analysisis the evaluation of a device from the perspective of side-channel attacksor in other words the detection of information leakage.A device can be subject to several sources of information leakageand it is actually relatively easy to find just one side-channel attack that works(by exploiting just one source of leakage),however it is very difficult to find all sources of information leakage or to show that there is no information leakage in the givenimplementation of an encryption algorithm. Evaluators use various statistical tests during the analysis of a cryptographic device to checkthat it does not leak the secret key. However, in order to performsuch tests the evaluation lab needs the device to acquire the measurementsand analyse them. Unfortunately, the development process of cryptographicsystems is rather long and has to go through several stages. Thus, an information leakagethat can lead to a side-channel attackcan be discovered by an evaluation lab at the very last stage using the finalproduct. In such case, the whole process has to be restarted in order to fix the issue, this can lead to significant time and budget overheads. The rationale is that developers of cryptographic systems would like to be able to detect issues related to side-channel analysis during the development of the system, preferably on the early stages of its development. However, it is far from beinga trivial task because the end product is not yet available andthe nature of side-channel attacks is such that it exploits the properties ofthe final version of the cryptographic device that is actually available to the end user. The goal of this work is to show how simulators can be used for the detection of issues related to side-channel analysis during the development of cryptosystems. This work lists the advantages of simulators compared to physical experimentsand suggests a classification of simulators for side-channel analysis. This work presents existing simulators that were created for side-channel analysis, more specifically we show that there is a lack of available simulation toolsand that therefore simulators are rarely used in the domain. We present threenew open-source simulators called Silk, Ascold and Savrasca. These simulators are working at different levels of abstraction, they can be used by developers to perform side-channel analysisof the device during different stages of development of a cryptosystem. We show how Silk can be used during the preliminary analysisand development of cryptographic algorithms using simulations based on high level of abstraction source code. We used it to compare S-boxesas well as to compare shuffling countermeasures against side-channel analysis. Then, we present the tool called Ascold that can be used to find side-channel leakagein implementations with masking countermeasure using the analysis of assembly code of the encryption. Finally, we demonstrate how our simulator called Savrasca can be used to find side-channelleakage using simulations based on compiled executable binaries. We use Savrascato analyse masked implementation of a well-known contest on side-channel analysis (the 4th edition of DPA Contest),as a result we demonstrate that the analysed implementation contains a previouslyundiscovered information leakage. Through this work we alsocompared results of our simulated experiments with real experiments comingfrom implementations on microcontrollers and showed that issues found using our simulatorsare also present in the final product. Overall, this work emphasises that simulatorsare very useful for the detection of side-channel leakages in early stages of developmentof cryptographic systems.

Abstract:
This thesis is an investigation of the complex processes and relationships between the physical human performer and the technologically manufactured cyber-human counterpart. I acted as both researcher and the physical human performer, deeply engaged in the moment-to-moment creation of events unfolding within a shared virtual reality environment. As the primary instigator and activator of the cyber-human partner, I maintained a balance between the live and technological performance elements, prioritizing the production of content and meaning. By way of using practice as research, this thesis argues that in considering interactions between cyber-human and human performers, it is crucial to move beyond discussions of technology when considering interactions between cyber-humans and human performers to an analysis of emotional content, the powers of poetic imagery, the trust that is developed through sensory perception and the evocation of complex relationships. A theoretical model is constructed to describe the relationship between a cyber-human and a human performer in the five works created specifically for this thesis, which is not substantially different from that between human performers. Technological exploration allows for the observation and analysis of various relationships, furthering an expanded understanding of ‘movement as content’ beyond the electronic connection. Each of the works created for this research used new and innovative technologies, including virtual reality, multiple interactive systems, six generations of wearable computers, motion capture technology, high-end digital lighting projectors, various projection screens, smart electronically charged fabrics, multiple sensory sensitive devices and intelligent sensory charged alternative performance spaces. They were most often collaboratively created in order to augment all aspects of the performance and create the sense of community found in digital live dance performances/events. These works are identified as one continuous line of energy and discovery, each representing a slight variation on the premise that a working, caring, visceral and poetic content occurs beyond the technological tools. Consequently, a shift in the physical human’s psyche overwhelms the act of performance. Scholarship and reflection on the works have been integral to my creative process throughout. The goals of this thesis, the works created and the resulting methodologies are to investigate performance to heighten the multiple ways we experience and interact with the world. This maximizes connection and results in a highly interactive, improvisational, dynamic, non-linear, immediate, accessible, agential, reciprocal, emotional, visceral and transformative experience without boundaries between the virtual and physical for physical humans, cyborgs and cyber-humans alike.

Having a machine that could substitute the man on the work is not a new idea, it comes as far as ancient Greece when Aristotle speculated that in the future the man will build an Automata that will be able to help on our day-to-day jobs. Being troubled with the issues of Greece at that time, he also predicted that this Automata could abolish slavery and bring human equality. Fortunately, in the world in which we live slavery does not exist anymore like in Aristotle’s time, but his speculation became a reality anyway and it changed the life of people for the better. Robotics allowed us to produce much more than we were able without it bringing to our lives abundance. In short, it allowed us to produce more and faster associating all of this with quality products. Over the last few decades robots have been adding increasing value on the industry, with special focus on the robotic arms, allowing the implementation of a large number of repetitive tasks, with good reliability and speed. Considering the vast spectrum of robots, this project focusses mainly on the collaborative robots, whose goal is to close the gap that exists between humans and robots, allowing them to work on a more interactive environment. Depending on the desired goal, a robotic arm can execute one or more tasks for a specific job. In case the robot is performing only one task, it is possible to finish the job with only one tool, however, if the same robot is performing various tasks for the same job, there will be necessary to have a system that allows the tool changing before each new task. This project consists on building an automatically tool changer for collaborative robots and it will be divided in two parts: The Tool Holder and the Automatic Tool Changer (ATC). The Tool Holder is a structure which will be positioned on robot’s work table, and it is the place where all the tools will be placed. As for the ATC, it represents the mechanism which will allow to attach the tools to the robot.

The machine system that automatically performs tool changes between the spindle and the tool magazine of a machining center is called automatic tool changer. An automatic tool changer with a complex tool change arm has two grippers located he tool maga- zine and the spindle, respectively. Two special mechanisms are designed to drive the grippers to change tools The grippers are combined, rotated, and separated to complete the process of tool change. The purpose of this work is to analyze the topological structure and dynamic characteristics of this tool changer. We conclude the key of geometric dimensions of this tool changer based on the analysis of the mechanism configuration, tool change motions, and the drive mechanisms. Then, we proceed the kinematic and kinetostatic analysis for the two drive mechanisms to obtain the contact force, friction force, and friction torque of members for the design of member strength, for the choice of bearing type , and for lubrication and wearing problems. Finally, we analyze and balance the shaking force and shaking moment of the tool changer to reduce the vibration of the machine. sunce the shaking force of the drive mechanism beside the spindle can''''t be fully balanced, we optimize of the shaking force, shaking moment, and input torque, and the RMS value of the shaking force is reduced by 25%. Then, we offer two types of balance to the driving mecha- nism next to the tool magazine: if the shaking force is fully balanced, the shaking moment increase about 150%; under space limits, we perform a partial balance and the RMS value of the shaking force is reduced by 48% little. The result of this work effectively improves the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the original automatic tool changer with a complex tool change arm.

In the past, cutting machine tools have been dominated by manual or semi-automated operations. This mode often causes problems in some processes, such as increased processing time, material waste, and operator risk. However, with the increase of competitors and the change of manufacturing type, it has been unable to meet the development trend of modern machine tools. Therefore, this study will start with a whole-machine automation and develop a new cutting system in a modular integration. In addition to the high-precision packing system, the die calibration technology will be integrated to develop a new tool change system and magazine. The cutting die is different from the milling cutter, which is mostly irregular in shape and needs to be completely fixed by a blade and cutter head. However, the center of the die must be found through the die corrector before the die is fixed, otherwise the overlap will occur when cutting. In order to complete the cutting machine automation and precision, the integration of packing, calibration and automatic tool changer system is very important. In the development of the magazine, this study will integrate an offline image calibration module. The die contour and alignment mark are directly projected by the die orientation of the packing system. Allows the operator to accurately lock the cutter on the blade according to this image, and then insert it into the magazine in sequence. In the new automatic tool changer part, the pneumatic system, servo motor, screw and sensor are used as the main components of the tool change positioning. Cutter management with human-machine interface (HMI), which automatically records tool magazine position, alarm and display the tool number. Remote monitoring can also be used to allow the outsiders to control the HMI to achieve stable, intelligent, fast and high-precision tool change. The integrated cutting machine can improve the time-consuming and inaccurate cutting of the tool change. The overall cutting deviation can be controlled about 0.1mm. It meets the development goal of cutting machine tools towards automation and precision.

Design of Pushing-Tool Mechanisms for an Automatic Tool Changer of Vertical Machining Centers Lien-Wen Chang* Wen-Miin Hwang** Department of Mechanical Engineering National Cheng Kung University Tainan, Taiwan, R.O.C. Abstract This thesis presents a method for the conceptual design and dimensional design of new pushing-tool mechanisms for an automatic tool changer of vertical machining centers. After analyzing the structures of some existing pushing-tool mechanisms, the design requirements and constraints of the new pushing- tool mechanism are proposed. Thirteen feasible conceptual designs are then synthesizes by using a systematic method. The best one is selected according to the performance evaluation via the decision matrix method. A procedure for the dimensional design of the pushing-tool mechanism, including kinematic analysis, plate cam synthesis, static force analysis, selection of materials and dimensions, and kinetostatic analysis, is proposed to determine the dimensions of the mechanism. Finally, by using the I-DEAS software, the geometry model is constructed to simulate the assembly of the pushing-tool mechanism synthesized. The new pushing-tool mechanism presented here has better performances than the existing ones. The advantages of the new pushing-tool mechanism proposed are as follows: (1) The force flow from motor to the pushing-tool mechanism is shortened and thus the mechanical efficiency is increased. (2) The pushing-tool mechanism is able to separate from the spindle, thus the spindle can move alone without carrying the ATC box when the machining center is working. (3) As the link number of the pushing-tool mechanism is decreased, the cost and the complexity of the mechanism can be reduced. (4) By using the jaw clutch in power transmission to achieve the goal of pushing and pulling tool without during the double-gripper arm, the tools can be inserted into the spindle by hand for easy set-up of tools. (5) A guide is used to prevent between the automatic tool changer box and the spindle during the process of pushing or pulling tool. The design procedure proposed can be applied to develop other types of pushing-tool mechanisms. * Graduate Student * *Advisor

In this time, machine centers industry is required to be great automatic and precision. The applications of machine centers are increasingly wide, such as the products are manufactured by automatically precision machine centers. Hence, the research and development of precision machine centers are getting more important. In recent years, the rapid developments of four or five-axis machine centers make the corresponding products be also increasingly exquisite. Therefore, this paper uses the creative design methods of mechanical devices to design new configures of machine centers with 3+1 axis. First, we analysis the topological structures of existing machine centers with automatic tool exchangers and their corresponding motion characteristics. Based on the characteristics, we conclude the design criteria. According to the definitions of standardization (ISO) coordinate system and design criteria to synthesis the tree atlas of machine centers with 3+1 axis. By using the rules of specialization and particularization, we have the new topological design atlas. Furthermore, applying the graphics software, we draw the corresponding modularized configurations. Finally, we have 49 new configurations of machine centers with 3+1 axis.

In this study, the recent applications of Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) were presented, especially on the warehouse type ATC . A Virtual Prototype simulation with mechanism analysis and modal analysis technology was performed to demonstrate the results. First, the kinematic simulations of the multi-link mechanism of the tool transfer unit with ADAMS mechanism software were run to get the kinematic features. And both the kinematic optimization with Newton-Raphson Iteration and Taguchi Method were conducted to acquire a better linkage positioning with lower maximum acceleration of the couple point of the multi-link mechanism. The result of the dynamic features before and after the optima were compared, both optimizations got the similar optimal solutions. Also with Taguchi Method, calculate the optimization of the mechanism with tolerance. Secondly, the modal behaviors of the frame structure of the ATC with FEM were predicted. The results of FEM modal prediction of two Tool Clip with different mesh type and density were compared. Based on the above results, predicting the modal and frequency of the ATC, help to choose the power source working frequency and the suitable structure.

The prototype dual cam automatic tool changers have been developed for four generations. However, there are still some unsolved certain problems. The third and fourth prototypes of the automatic tool changers, improved by Taiwan Leadwell CNC Machines Maf. Co. Ltd., are called LW type dual cam automatic tool changer. The purpose of the research is to analyze the performance of the existingm dual cam automatic tool changers, to identify the sources of the problems, and to provide means to solve these problems. The major existing problem of the LW type dual cam automatic tool changer is the vibration of the arm in the working cycle due to improper forces and clearances between members. This work derives equations for the geometric design of the cam surfaces, the analysis of machine dynamics, and the analysis of stress and deformation. And, an integrated computer program is developed for analyzing existing design and identifying the problems. As the result, new design is provided for improving joint forces between members; and concepts for improving clearances is proposed.

Automatic tool changers (ATCs) are the necessary module in computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. Roller-gear cams are traditionally applied to make tool gripper arms produce the prescribed tool changing motion. However, the design and manufacturing processes for the profile of roller-gear cams are quite complicated, and thus the production costs of ATCs cannot be considerably reduced. This thesis aims at developing a planar cam-driven type ATC via the use of planar groove cams to replace the roller-gear cam in order to reduce the production costs of ATCs. Conceptual innovation design, theoretical derivation, dynamic analysis, and optimal design were completely performed for the ATC, and a prototype of the developed ATC was implemented and tested. Firstly, the motion diagram of the tool gripper arm was planned, and the conceptual innovation design of the ATC hardware was performed. The presented conceptual innovation design of the ATC hardware requires merely a planar cam-follower subassembly, a combined-type clutch- transmission (CTCT) subassembly, and a tool gripper arm subassembly to produce the prescribed tool changing motion. The planar cam-follower subassembly is applied as the motion input source for the ATC, which transmit the reciprocating swinging of a sine-type follower-arm to the tool gripper arm subassembly for producing a reciprocating translation, and transmit the reciprocating swinging of another follower-arm to the CTCT subassembly. The CTCT subassembly further makes the tool gripper arm subassembly produce a non-reciprocating rotation through a set of overrunning clutches in combined with gear trains, a bevel gear differential, and electromagnetic brakes. The tool gripper arm subassembly, as the motion output of the ATC, can thus produce the prescribed tool changing motion through the cam-follower subassembly and the CTCT subassembly. Secondly, mathematical models of the cam profiles, pressure angles and radii of curvatures for the planar cam-follower subassembly were derived, and the contact stress analysis and dynamic analysis tasks were performed. Then, the optimal design methodology was applied to reduce the cam areas and the motor driving torque. Moreover, the conceptual innovation design and the optimal design parameters were combined to perform the computer-aided design of the prototype for the developed ATC. Finally, the prototype was constructed and practical experiments were conducted. The experimental results showed that the prototype could actually produce the prescribed tool changing motion. Therefore, the design concept proposed in this study can reduce the complexity for the design and manufacturing of roller-gear cams applied in traditional ATCs.

The purpose of this paper is to design a new pushing-and pulling-tool mechanism for an automatic tool changer of machining center. Based on the design requirements and design contrains of the pushing-and pulling-tool mechanism, some feasible conceptual designs for the pushing-and pulling-tool mechanism are synthesized by a systematic approach. One of the best conceptual designs is selected according to the decision matrix method. A compound cam is applied to control time sequence and to drive the tool changer. A lever and a toggle mechanism is proposed to transfer the power from a face cam for pushing and pulling tool to the pushing tool head. The dimensions of the links and the face cam are then synthesized according to the specifications. The pressure angle and the radius of curvature of the face cam are checked. The acting forces in the joints of toggle and lever are also analyzed in order to determine the sizes of links, pins and ball bearings. The horsepower of the motor required is only 64.4percentage of that of an existing mechanism.

This work develops a systematic methodology to design and analyze a roller-gear-cam type automatic tool change mechanism for vertical machining centers, and a prototype is built for testing the feasibility of the design. The subsystems of the automatic tool change mechanism, the extract and insert tool mechanism, the roller gear cam mechanism, and the push and pull tool mechanism, are introduced first, and coordinate transformation matrix, universal motion curve, and input-output time diagram are presented in order to design the cams of the three subsystems. For each subsystem, the universal motion curve and the input-output time diagram are used to design the motion curve of the cam. Coordinate transformation matrix, differential geometry, and theory of conjugate surfaces are used to derive equations of cam surface and cam curvature. Kinematic analysis of each subsystem is developed, and the joint force of each subsystem are analyzed based on the result of kinematic analysis and Newton''s law. Final-y, a prototype is built for experimental testing. The results prove the proposed design is feasible.

The device that auotmatically performs tool changes between thespindle and the tool magazine of a machining center is called automatictool change mechanism. This work develops a systematic methodology todesign and analyze an automatic tool change mechanism for one specifictype of horizontal machining centers. Based on Yan''''s creative mechanismdesign methodology, a feasible automatic tool change mechanism thatincludes three subsystems, the extract and insert tool mechanism, theroller gear cam mechanism, and the push and pull tool mechanism, is generated. For each subsystem, the universal motion curve and the input- outputtime diagram are used to design the motion curve of the cam. Coordinatetransformation matrix and theory of conjugate surfaces are used to derivedequations of cam surface and cam curvature. Based on kinematic and dynamicanalysis of each subsystem, the joint force, the friction force, and thefriction torque of each subsystem are analyzed in order to design the components''''strength and select the bearing types. Finally, the torque inputand horsepower to drive the mechanisms are derived from the analyzed model, and are compared with the automatic tool change mechanism of one specifictype of vertical maching centers. The theoretical analysis shows that further improvements of the cam pressureangle of each subsystem and the torque input of the push and pull tool mechanare need. As compare with the automatic tool change mechanism of vertical machining centers, the overall results are close since the topological structuresof the two designs are similar. The result of this workis beneficial for improving the prototype automatic tool change mechanism.
