Abstract:
During its mission, a launch vehicle is subject to broadband, severe, aeroacoustic and structure-borne excitations of various provenances, which can endanger the survivability of the payload and the vehicles electronic equipment, and consequently the success of the mission. Aerospace structures are generally characterized by the use of exotic composite materials of various configurations and thicknesses, as well as by their extensively complex geometries and connections between different subsystems. It is therefore of crucial importance for the modern aerospace industry, the development of ana

Abstract:
Demand response is an effective method that can solve known issues in electrical power systems caused by peak power demand and intermittent supply from renewable sources. Office buildings are good candidates for implementing demand response because they usually incorporate building management systems which are able to control and monitor various electrical devices, from lighting to HVAC, security to power management. In order to study the feasibility of using an existing office building management system to implement demand response, a simulator for a typical office building has been built whi

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the study of cancer treatment models described with evolutionary dynamics. Developing mathematical models which describe the evolution of tumors over time may be potentially useful for oncologists to predict cancer evolution via simulations. This work contributes to the existing literature with the development of a new nonlinear dynamical model, which considers chemotherapy treatment inside a heterogeneous tumor environment. Finally, a preliminary fitting of cancer treatment models is performed with an identification approach by making use of initial experimental data.
